Obama Absent from Medal of Honor Ball - Update: Confirmed

Many commenters challenged the story about Barack Obama not attending the American Legion’s “Salute to Heroes” ball; here’s an email from the American Legion confirming that the story was accurate.

In answer to your inquiry:

The American Legion, as it has on every inauguration evening since 1953, hosted the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet & Ball on January 20th. The quadrennial event is co-sponsored with fourteen veterans service and military service organizations and honors recipients of the Medal of Honor. Forty-seven of these heroes attended this year’s event which was held in the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel.

President Obama was invited but did not attend. Vice-President Joe Biden did appear, however, and was very warmly received. The new President’s absence was understandable considering the unprecedented logistical challenges presented by the vastly increased number of visitors to this inauguration and the necessary attendant security measures. The American Legion, as an organization, does not feel offended or “snubbed.”

The American Legion is being very gracious. I understand that this is an event that goes back 56 years & that the President has always showed before Obama.
This is one event that he had a responsibility to attend.

So far, the Dow is down 203 points or 2.4% and the S&P is down 18.18 points or 2.1% for the Messiah's term.

I think Clinton was interested in "his legacy", and was willing to be flexible to actually do something good. He tried to get a Mideast peace treaty, and realized Arafat was a terrorist, unlike many other people, and put the blame where it was deserved. Clinton did let facts change his mind.

0bama believes in Marxism, cult of personality, and big government, and isn't going to let something like facts change his course.
So if he thinks he's holding the control stick to climb the plane, but the instruments indicate it is crashing, he's not going to change his piloting, but let the whole thing crash. And then wonder what happened, because in his mind, he did everything right.

Spot on. And that reminds me of President Nixon - and it is oh, so scary, as we all know where that attitude led.

Example from yesterday that made me go "uh oh" - President O visits the Press Room, then snaps at the reporters when they - you know - do their job and ask questions. Compare and contrast to President Reagan's charming way of putting the press off. He respected them - did not snap - and still controlled the situation.

President O has the charm of a small, bad-tempered doggy.

Spot on. And that reminds me of President Nixon - and it is oh, so scary, as we all know where that attitude led.

Example from yesterday that made me go "uh oh" - President O visits the Press Room, then snaps at the reporters when they - you know - do their job and ask questions. Compare and contrast to President Reagan's charming way of putting the press off. He respected them - did not snap - and still controlled the situation.

President O has the charm of a small, bad-tempered doggy.

Even though he screwed up a lot (pun intended), President Clinton had a way, which I have to call seductive, of making me like him - even trust him at times. He had skill in that department. I truly think Presiden O lacks the skill. I think people have blinders on, and when the blinders fall away, he will start reminding people of President Nixon, who while a brilliant guy in many ways, was totally missing the seduction gene.

That headline - French Leader Mauled by Poodle - was supremely funny, in an ironic way, though of course I felt a bit guilty for laughing.

And full disclosure - I like poodles. Had poodles for pets as a teen. Standard poodles are awesome dogs, even though their hair cuts can sometimes make them look kinda like sissies. Plus - they don't shed. No dissing on poodles intended.

I, however, am still appalled by the snub. Furious. This single disgusting dereliction says everything. The peacenik ball wasn't snubbed, security wasn't an issue for the loons and celluloid poppets of Hollywood. But for Medal of Honor recipients and the coalition of Veterans organizations--to damn much trouble to show up.

Lets get one thing straight. There is no one book out there called "The Army Field Manual". There are a series of manuals, each designated by their number and subject. For example, FM 7-8 INFANTRY RIFLE PLATOON AND SQUAD is known as the Infantrymans Bible and deals witheverything Infantry. For the asshats at the press to simply say "the Army Field Manual" is idiotic. They are refering to Field Manual 2-22.3 Human Intelligence Collector Operations, although there are a lot of manuals that deal with detainee Ops. I still have some leftover transfer paperwork and a powerpoint somewhere.

It's my inheritance from my almost-Dutch maternal grandfather, along with a distinct tendency to form kidneystones (calcium oxalate, yea!).

My father's side of the family has lots of hair on top. I could've had a snowy-white mullet of enviable proportions. But no, male-pattern baldness is carried in the mother's genes. My middle brother has a great mop of dirty blond hair.

As far as being hirsute, the bald spot really has nothing to do with it. In fact, I can grow plenty of hair down my back, in my ear, etc.

Drives me nuts...I work (indirectly) with vets coming back in the VA's. I admire the drive and ambition of those recently returned to get over their wounds and return as close as possible to their physical capabilities. I also see those that have had to deal with their wounds for years (WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, the Gulf War, etc). I tear up thinking of their sacrifice. To have these hypocritical bastards using them for their own base purposes drives my blood pressure to near stroke levels.

The VA received a large influx in '08. They were supposed to have an additional $200M this year, but the rumor mill has started that those additional funds are being diverted to the bailout. No confirmation yet, just rumor. Should know more this summer.

The Pritzker Military Library has monthly interviews with MOH recipients. I have been to a couple of them, and you can listen to archived interviews.

Each year for the past couple, I have been honored to escort MOH recipients on to a trading floor. When they walk on the floor, they get a standing ovation.
I brought Walt Ehlers on the floor once, and he received a much bigger ovation than Michael Jordan.

It is my opinion that the gentlemen that have received the MOH would not call attention to the fact that the Commander in Chief skipped their ball. That is not what they are about.

The gentlemen that are still living, that received this honor, are their to represent all those who came before them, those who served with them. If you ask anyone of them they will tell you that the Medal is not theirs. It belongs to the people they served with. These people are some of the most compassionate, selfless people you have ever met.

At the last gathering I was at one remarked, "I always love to hear someone else's story, but I regret telling my own. It was a painful day for me, and reliving it is very painful."

God bless each and every MOH recipient. I wish I could exhibit the same characteristics they represented in my every day life.

If there was such a lack of substantiation of a story that came from the LLL, we would be all over it. So I would hope we continue to apply the same standards of scrutiny to the news no matter which side it comes from (no offense to the sources intended), and that those who ask questions (without resorting to wild, defamatory and unsubstantiated accusations) aren't attacked for doing so.

By the time BO and his minions are done with this country we won't recognize it. He will run this country by executive order and no one in our government will do anything to stop the madness. My guess is that the people who voted for him could give a shit about the brave veterans that he didn't have time for. As long as he takes care of their mortgage, puts gas in their car, and sends the tax refund check to the correct address, I honestly believe they don't give a shit what else he does. We have too many parasites and not enough patriots left to fight. I am to the point that if I see a car on the side of the road with a BO sticker on it and they need assistance I would stop just long enough to tell them to dial the chosen for for help because I damn well won't lift a finger to help them out. It makes me physically sick to even think about what the future will bring. Hope and change my ass.

You didn't have much of a choice to fight your board. I could have fought mine only to wait for a couple of years to then be boarded out without a choice. They offered me a big chunk of change to leave, and the thought of serving with Clinton as CinC was repugnant. As the years rolled on the ex got the money and my decision to get out was correct on more than one level.

It's my inheritance from my almost-Dutch maternal grandfather, along with a distinct tendency to form kidneystones (calcium oxalate, yea!).

My father's side of the family has lots of hair on top. I could've had a snowy-white mullet of enviable proportions. But no, male-pattern baldness is carried in the mother's genes. My middle brother has a great mop of dirty blond hair.

As far as being hirsute, the bald spot really has nothing to do with it. In fact, I can grow plenty of hair down my back, in my ear, etc.


OT, I feel it my duty to tell everyone with that type of stones to take 500mg of magnesium per day and that will keep them from forming. B6 helps too.

Well, he was given a chance to do what is right with those honored veterans and he blew it Seems that the annointed ONE won't disappoint any of us when it comes to honoring those who went above and beyond the call of duty - he won't honor them. The true character of a person shows when they are super busy and the shields get dropped for just a few moments. His character sadly lacks what a true leader requires.

Going on the attack against Rush Limbaugh shows Obama's very thin skin when dealing with harsh, not vitriolic criticisms. I suspect that this country is in serious trouble. Welcome to the onset of the new dark ages.

What I dont understand is why this even made the threads , especially since the posted statement by the Vets Organization , makes it quite clear that they weren't offended . I guess you'll be offended for them eh ? and add a slur to be sure .
I'm surprised your post was allowed to stand .

I'll reserve judgement until I see what the new Pres. ACTUALLY DOES FOR THE VETS , rather than phony gestures , then allowing wounded Iraq and Afghanistan Vets to live in rat infested brokedown quarters .

BTW I'm a Vietnam Vet and not the least bit offended .
