Marching for Hamas

Denis Maceoin makes some powerful points in this column for the Jerusalem Post: Marching for Hamas.

In a bizarre reversal of all their commitment to human rights and the struggle of men and women for independence and self-determination, the European Left has chosen again and again to side with the bullies and to condemn a small nation struggling to survive in a hostile neighborhood. It is all self-contradictory: The Left supports gay rights, yet attacks the only country in the Middle East where gay rights are enshrined in law. Hamas makes death the punishment for being gay, but “we are all Hamas now.” Iran hangs gays, but it is praised as an agent of anti-imperialism, and allowed to get on with its job of stoning women and executing dissidents and members of religious minorities. If UK Premier Gordon Brown swore to wipe France from the face of the earth, he would become a pariah among nations. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatens to do that to Israel and is invited to speak to the UN General Assembly.

Israel guarantees civil liberties to all its citizens, Jew or Arab alike, but it is dubbed “an apartheid state”; Hamas, ever the bully, kills its opponents and denies the rest the most basic rights, but we march on behalf of Hamas. The Left prefers the bully because the bully represents a finger in the face of the establishment? Almost no one on the Left has any understanding of militant Islam. Their politics is a politics of gesture, where wearing a keffiyeh is cool but understanding its symbolism is too much effort even for intellectuals.

The banality of evil is a phrase coined by Hannah Arendt and incorporated in the title of her 1963 work Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil.[1] It describes the thesis that the great evils in history generally, and the Holocaust in particular, were not executed by fanatics or sociopaths but rather by ordinary people who accepted the premises of their state and therefore participated with the view that their actions were normal.

The Keffiyeh is the symbol of genocidal mass-murders. Wearing a keffiyeh is the modern day equivalent of wearing a swastika.

How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin.

I think Ronald Reagan said that.

How do you tell an Islamic militant? Well, it's someone who reads the Koran and listens to Ahmadinejad. And how do you tell an anti-Islamic militant? It's someone who understands the Koran and Ahmadinejad.

I said that.

Their politics is a politics of gesture, where wearing a keffiyeh is cool but understanding its symbolism is too much effort even for intellectuals.

It is moral relativism. Even if they were to look deeper into the ideology and symbolism that drives hamas and their ilk, who are they to judge it as wrong, bad, evil, what have you? All cultures are equal and worthy of respect to the moral relativist, unless that culture is victimized by the ideologies of the west. Then they have room to judge the oppressors as bad and the victims as good without looking at any root causes, because as all moral relativists know- Evil is the victim of Good.

The keffiyeh fashion has been firmly in place among European student radicals and others of that ilk since I was an exchange student in Germany in the late seventies. It gave me the creeps then, and I gave up part of my jejune pseudo-leftism at that time simply because I couldn't stand these types.

Now they're not just making fashion statements, but waging intifada. And Europe sleeps on...

Yes, she was wise, dinner convesations were opportunities for her to share ideas; one evening at dinner during the Iran Crisis in '79 I remember her saying something to the effect that:

"people who present themselves as agents of change, are very often not agents of change, but disguised representives of vested interests who after change has been achieved will do all they can to destroy the very institutions that made the change possible."

Our Liberal associates should beware of the agents of change with whom they align themselves. They could be in for a surprise. I wish my

Cursing the light and embracing the darkness makes it easier to ignore reality by not being able to see it.

Ok, fine, will be getting ready for work in a bit. Kinda mad at the weather. For the Left, demonstrations and temper tantrums are just "party time" because they never have to pay for any of their actions and someone else always buys their freedom.

The site Brewed Coffee that uses the first picture in that block of pictures sure shows their sympathy for the idiots:

Oh my, just when I thought that people were becoming more open minded and rationale! I have never been a fan of Rachael Ray, let me say that outright. This latest uproar over her makes me kind of feel for her though. For those who may not know, she is a spokeswoman for Dunkin’ Donuts. So there she was, doing her job, being her uber perky self as usual, right? She made this Internet commercial about how good Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is (by the way, I do like Dunkin’ Donuts coffee).

Suddenly, out of the blue, she is being accused of symbolically supporting terrorism! Come on now, this irritatingly cheerful person you see on TV several times a day a supporter of violence? As much as her personality and shows grate on my nerves, I just cannot see her trying to promote terrorism by trying to get away with wearing a kaffiyeh look-a-like in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial.

I see that drinking coffee doesn't stop one from downing the kool-aid.

Frankfurter...what a weenie!

Political Interference Seen in Bank Bailout Decisions

Troubled OneUnited Bank in Boston didn't look much like a candidate for aid from the Treasury Department's bank bailout fund last fall.

The Treasury had said it would give money only to healthy banks, to jump-start lending. But OneUnited had seen most of its capital evaporate. Moreover, it was under attack from its regulators for allegations of poor lending practices and executive-pay abuses, including owning a Porsche for its executives' use.

Nonetheless, in December OneUnited got a $12 million injection from the Treasury's Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. One apparent factor: the intercession of Rep. Barney Frank, the powerful head of the House Financial Services Committee.

Mr. Frank, by his own account, wrote into the TARP bill a provision specifically aimed at helping this particular home-state bank. And later, he acknowledges, he spoke to regulators urging that OneUnited be considered for a cash injection.

Politics of the left never change. The same Barney Frank that was playing peek-a-boo when Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae were tanking and approving bad mortgages.

The leftists who apologize for and defend Hamas murderers are guilty of racism of lowered expectations. They don't hold Hamas members up to the same standards of behavior that they expect from civilized people because they look down at them as if they were wild animals beholden to animal instincts instead of as human being individuals. Thats why its never their fault when they attack. It was your fault for making them attack. Thats what animals do.

I wish my ole granny had been a dorm mom at some Liberal Arts College, she would have changed some attitudes. Some kids at liberal arts colleges have no idea what the realities are. They take the four years as a long party, rather than preparation for transition into adulthood.
They protest against the establishment and engage in activities to fit in with the crowd even though they know such actions would upset their parents. Without supportive guidance and strict supervision they engage in destructive behavior that can damage their outlook and prospects for success later in life.
I believe it is why we see so many Liberal students supporting this anti social causes. They don't understand what they are doing, and too often mature adults ignore them and describe the bahavior as a "phase" to their detriment.

Two observations about the Left:

1. They are children. They behave like children, have the same needs as children, and like children, they desperately want power but have no idea how to manage it well when they get it.

2. They seem to have a death wish, always seeking out, gravitating toward and embracing the most vile, dangerous bastards that ever inhabited this planet...which, if that's what they want to choose for themselves, is fine - but they often drag the more sober of us along on their mission.

I watched a program about the Munich Olympics last night. It is striking how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Will the world ever get tired of this?

I like to tell the story of how I didn't like to sleep in the dark when I was little.

When I was 2, everytime it was time for me to go to sleep, my parents would turn off the light, and I would begin yelling and screaming loudly, until they turned it back on.

This worked quite well for a while, but eventually my parents got smart and just left the light off. Regardless of how long or how loud I yelled, they stopped turning the lights on for me. By the time I was 3, I had accepted the situation, and would sleep in a dark room.

In short, I explain to people that I have been a liberal, but I outgrew it by age 3.

May the show be well attended and the theater prosperous. Being a small businessman I support everything local.

Well, the show attendance has be dismal. A number of factors, Jan/Feb is the slowest months in regional theatre around here, the economy and the fact that we always slot one of our more dramatic pieces into this time slot. We are into our 3rd week, and we haven't broken 50 patrons any night except opening night, and that was a lot of industry people that night.

So, your support, in spirit, is certainly welcome.

Cool, except when Simon calls his dad straight from on set while we are trying to have a rehearsal or production meeting. Everything has to stop. I will be seeing Simon sometime this spring.

His dad, Richard is on our board of directors and also direct 2 or 3 of our shows each year and does most of our set designs and set constructions.

Well, I suppose that can get to be a drag, but there's something nice in the fact that he and his dad are obviously pretty close. Hope he's a nice guy in person.

re: #157 gmsc

I like to tell the story of how I didn't like to sleep in the dark when I was little.

When I was 2, every time it was time for me to go to sleep, my parents would turn off the light, and I would begin yelling and screaming loudly, until they turned it back on.

Now isn't that a wonderful explanation of the conduct Liberals typically demonstrate. Liberals are adults with arrested intellectual development. They are unwilling to reason and prone to the emotional outbursts and tantrums that are typical of a three year old.
I had never considered that, but you are absolutely right. It can be the only logical explanation as to why adults in a privileged society would ally themselves with people who are committed to their destruction. They are children and do not comprehend the significance and consequence of their actions.

The "Spain once was Muslim" argument was also a reason for their being targeted/singled out for their support of the US operation in Iraq. 197 Rexatosis  Sat, Jan 24, 2009 12:01:12pm

The left's problem with Israel is a combination of anti-Semitism (or more broadly anti-any Judeo-Christian religious belief) and a base superficial understanding of Marxist-Leninist thought. The left is by-and-large secular in its orientation and suspicious of religiousity. In Europe and the United States (and Canada) the dominant religious practices are Judeo-Christian. Islam is primarily excluded from this anti-religious viewpoint because it is essentially alien (as are Hinduism, Buddism, Shintoism etc.) to the Left's experiences and the Islamic world has few if any Leftists in a Socialist mold for whom the Western Left can make common cause (and by extension bring a Leftist critique of Islam from fellow travellers whose word the Western Left will accept.) Thus the Left is predisposed to view Israel in a more negative light than the Palestinians to begin with. Add to this a superficial understanding of Marx's class theories (Israel is wealthier than Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, etc therefore it must be exploiting a proletarian class.), a drop of Lenin's "Imperialism is the Highest Stage of Capitalism, the fact the vast majority of Leftists have never been to either Israel nor any Islamic country and have read no history save for some warmed over Marxist theoretical garbage (I work in Academia, strong balanced reading lists for students are few and far between), a bunch of aging Professors who think '68 protests (and 1848) were the be all and end all of their youth (and try to get their students to recreate it) and you get that basic Leftist mantra that Israel is exploiting the poor Palestinians and a bunch of moonbats all marching towards the Kool-aid without any real examination of the causes of current crisis.

Leftism cannot be understood as an intellectual phenomenon because it isn't one. It is an emotional phenomenon. Notice how much of the leftist agenda involves emotional descriptors; "hate," "sensitivity," "compassion," "hope" etc. Leftists choose their loyalties based on the likelihood of emotional satisfaction for themselves, not on the real-world consequences that might devolve upon others when no one is looking. In this respect, the problem with leftist ideology is not that it is self-contradictory as much as it is self-congratulatory. The fearsome demonstrators always manage to find a way to "speak truth to power" from safe venues. Courageous speech is not that which might land you in a gulag, it is that which might let you hang out with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon, and allow you to pretend that your staged "courage" is as virtuous as the real thing.

To understand real leftists, consider the ongoing calls for prosecution of Bush administration officials. While the more rational person might be puzzled by this seemingly obsessive behavior, it does demonstrate something of the leftist's view of himself. It is not enough that Bush policies be the result of differences of opinion, or good faith disputes as to the best solutions to difficult problems. No, it is necessary to show that anyone who disagrees with the lefty view of the world does so out of bad character, with the implicit implication that anyone who did not agree with Bush did not simply embrace a better policy, but was a better person.

Leftists demonstrate against the U.S. and Israel, even though it seems to support despicable behavior, because such demonstrations are a way to pretend to be principled on the cheap. It really doesn't cost anything to call America names or make bizarre moral allusions regarding the actions of Israel, from the security of a western democracy. To leftist emotions, it is immaterial that such demonstrations embolden dictatorships, genocidal theologies, misogynistic anachronisms, and a lack of concern for the innocent. What is important is that in that isolated moment, wrapped in a Kaffiyeh and surrounded by thousands of others seeking nothing more than the same immature gratification, that you can think of yourself as a really wonderful guy.

And when leftists and socialists welcome jihadists "home" to ancestral Al Andalus--a hotbed of communism during Spain's 1936-39 Civil War--the Caliphate takes you up on the invitation to "return". Yes, Spain has given jihadists the right of return to jihadism in Europe.

Like leftists welcome Hamas' jihadism against Israel and the USA.

The Haftarah (Prophets) reading for this week in Judaism, is amazingly timely.

It is from Ezekiel 28-29, and warns Israel against relying on Egypt for protection, and warns Egypt about 40 years of devastation because it did not support Israel.

6. And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord, because they have been a prop of reeds to the house of Israel. 7. When they took hold of you with the hand, you splintered and pierced the whole of their shoulders, and when they learned upon you, you broke, and you made all their loins stand upright. 8. Therefore, so says the Lord God: Behold I will bring the sword over you, and I will cut off from you man and beast. 9. And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and in ruins, and they shall know that I am the Lord! Because he said, "The river is mine, and I have made it."

So, if the US does not really make a very good effort to stop Hamas' smuggling, under the "memo of understanding", both Israel and the US will pay the price.
Israel should never have agreed; they should have stayed in Gaza, at least until there was no Hamasshole left.

Now, if I sent the above excerpt to B. Hussein, I'd probably get a visit from the Secret Service. Then, when they figured out that I'd be doing nothing execpt praying for G-d to give 0bama some sense, they'd think I was crazy.
I doubt Olmerde or Livni would listen, but I'd be less likely to receive a visit from the Mossad, as they probably hear it from other religious Jews.

The "Spain once was Muslim" argument was also a reason for their being targeted/singled out for their support of the US operation in Iraq. It is truly a shame that we lost Aznar as an allied government as a result of terrorism (well, because of his poor handling of the bombing right before the election anyway).

* * *
Had you been bombed by terrorists as former Pres. Aznar had been bombed by ETA terrorists (car bomb) who already murdered over 800 Spaniards, assuming ETA was responsible for bombing fellow Spaniards might not have been unreasonable.

Like President Bush said in New York two days after the 9/11/01 attacks, Aznar should have just said "We will punish (or bring to justice) the people who did this."

Pocket Obama Great Thought:

"We have a stake in one another.
What binds us together is greater than what drives us apart,
and if enough people believe in the truth of that proposition and act on it
then we might not solve every problem
but we can get something meaningful done
for the people with whom we share this Earth.

Daniel Pipes:

"A statist ideology, fascism uses politics as the tool to transform society from atomized individuals into an organic whole. It does so by exalting the state over the individual, expert knowledge over democracy, enforced consensus over debate, and socialism over capitalism. It is totalitarian in Mussolini's original meaning of the term, of "Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State." Fascism's message boils down to "Enough talk, more action!" Its lasting appeal is getting things done."

Ok, I suggested it was a satire on Mao's Little Red Book, but looking at that link, oops, they are fucking serious. This guy is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and it was only half-baked two years ago.

Includes themes of democracy, politics, war, terrorism, race, community, jurisprudence, faith, personal responsibility, national identity, and above all, his hoped-for vision of a new America. POCKET OBAMA is a portable, everyday primer for readers who want to examine the substance of his thought and reflect on the next great chapter in the American story.

We have compiled Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung in order to help the broad masses learn Mao Tse-tung's thought more effectively. In organizing their study, units should select passages that are relevant to the situation, their tasks, the current thinking of their personnel, and the state of their work.

I'm not so sure. Obama campaigned on taking the fight to Afghanistan and the border regions of Pakistan if necessary. Bush went out o his way to in his last weeks enact policy intended to smooth foreign affairs--likely out of a desire to not allow unfriendly foreign entities to take advantage of perceived sudden shifts in US foreign policies.

Somewhat underreported was Bush's success looking into Putin's eyes in order to negotiate alternate routes into Afghanistan through Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This gives Obama the freedom to bomb Pakistan without fear of our routes into Afghanistan being cut off.

For what do "Palestinians" hope?

No more Irsrael of course.

"Israel hates Palestinians, hates Arabs, hates Muslims, hates Islam," said one girl in Nuha Abdulati's English class, as her schoolmates nodded in agreement.

Israel lost 10 soldiers in the fighting and three civilians killed by rockets or mortars fired from Gaza by the Islamist Hamas militants who control the enclave.

The girls did not seem to be aware, or to take seriously, that it was Hamas which declared an end to the truce in late December, and that Israel's stated reason for attacking was to eradicate the threat of rockets which began to pepper southern towns. Scores exploded in one day before its forces struck.

Older Gazans who want compromise with Israel regret the high price of this "resistance." But in the classrooms at Beach Prep, any suggestion of making peace now was dismissed.

Asked if the current cease-fire would endure, most girls said they did not think so. Asked if there could be peace with Israel one day, most said there could not. None said it was possible.

Well, apparently they're cheaper if you buy 10-packs. Maybe we should buy one and stash them all over like hidden caches, to prevent people from destroying the evidence.

Ok, I ordered it from Amazon, I can wait till they have more in stock. For 10 dollars total (with shipping) I can afford that for a good laugh. And maybe I can scare a few baby leftist with it.

I also saved the Amazon page to my workstation. That last line in the book description is too much.

Save the history company page as well. Same description there.

Well, it would be because Amazon let's the originating company do the editorializing and product descriptions.

I had a young distant relative who carried Mao's Little Red Book and spouted leftist, liberal, Berlin-learned anticapitalism in the 1970s.

What a turn-off that dirty hippy with his Little Red Book was for me!

It helped to be reading escapees from Stalins' books like "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Solszhenitsyn, to counter pro-Lenin proMarx propaganda.

Solzhenitsyn, for me, besides being one of the heroes of the 20th Century, was the great antidote for any leftie, in the 1970s.
Even if one, in all innocence, tried to belive what they spouted ebcause they were 'cool', after eading 'The GULAG Archipelago' no sane person could have any doubts about the inherent, constituent evil of that ideology.

One thing that struck me reading the link about how some scientists were reacting to CBBHO's inauguration was the belief stated by at least two that with CBBHO in charge, science would be able to heal America, to cure what ails us.

To advocate HATE is becoming a part of the leftist acceptance of anything that is not furthering their beliefs in worldwide socialism.
Whether it be to wear an article of clothing in rebellion or to screech the words of hate in their protests. The blatant hate with acts of aggression that we have seen and heard in these last weeks of demonstrations are becoming much more common and getting much more furious in quality in it's display of their hate.
I can remember a time when the personal selection of the use of the word hate caused me to stop and ponder the emotion I was feeling. The use of the word hate was considered extreme in it's application to anything, in itself.
Hate is a powerful emotion. Aggression is it's symptom.
Here is powerpoint presentation on love and hate.
The hate and aggression section of the presentation begins at slide 57 of 79.

Fantastic news!

Pomegranates are beloved in Islam and used in cooking. They're full of anti-oxidants and make a nice tart winey juice. Maybe they're considered aphrodisiac.

During Moslem illegal okkupayshun of Spain, their last stronghold in Al Andalus was the fortress city of Granada, or pomegranate.

Pomegranates are also a staple in neighboring Iran's cuisine. My favorite iranian dish is fesenjun, chicken or duck or pheasant with a ground walnut/pomegranate sauce. MMM.

We all, I am sure, recall Lord Acton's famous quotation: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Another quotation from him that I think fits the situation of PG and shows why Charles has to ban people sometimes (in fact, Charles could have written it!):

There are two things which cannot be attacked in front: ignorance and narrow-mindedness. They can only be shaken by the simple development of the contrary qualities. They will not bear discussion.

At the risk of repeating myself: I maintain that there is one thing in life that you can't fake your way through, where your family's influence, or your old school connections cannot help you. That task is flying a high-performance single seat jet aircraft. Bush did it (F-102, a difficult plane to fly, IIRC 1/3rd of those built were lost to crashes). McCain did it (A-4), including night carrier landings and missions over Vietnam.
