Suddenly Obama Has Muslim Roots

Politics • Views: 3,051

In the National Post, Steven Edwards notes that suddenly it’s fine for Barack Obama to mention his Muslim roots—when he talks to Al Arabiya.

During the U.S presidential campaign, Barack Obama’s handlers vigourously pointed out his Christian faith whenever the misconception arose he may be Muslim (even though the politically correct response should have been his religion doesn’t matter).

The handlers also roundly denounced any conservative commentator who might mention (mischievously, admittedly) his Arabic middle name, Hussein.

They charged that such usage was “fear mongering.”

Once elected, however, he personally insisted on his middle name being spoken at his swearing-in ceremony.

And now – in a gesture to the Muslim world – he has not only granted the first sit-down interview of his presidency to a pan-Arab television network, but uses the occasion to gush about his Muslim ties.

“I have Muslim members of my family. I have lived in Muslim countries,” Obama tells Hisham Melhem, the Washington bureau chief of Saudi-owned Al Arabiya, which is based in Dubai.

Indeed, Obama’s Kenyan father, Barack Sr., was born into a Muslim family – though he became an atheist before arriving in Hawaii, where Obama Jr. was later born.

Obama also famously spent four years as a boy in Indonesia – the world’s most populous Muslim country.

All that’s fine, except why was no one allowed to talk much about it before he snagged the Electoral College majority?

Iraq War Update: Fight Shifts From AQI to Iran's Agents

...some policymakers now see the Iraq war as simply one battlefront in a broader conflict. No, not the “Global War on Terror” waged by ex-President Bush. A new war.

“This is rapidly becoming a regional proxy war with Iran,” argues Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens), chairman of a House Foreign Relations Committee’s panel on the Middle East and South Asia. “The big threat is, was and will remain in the future, Iran.”

Well isn't that funny? During the election campaign Obama & the Democrats and their media hacks constantly described Iraq as a "distraction from the real war". They also denied Iran was meddling in Iraq.

Now, all of a sudden, "the Iraq war is simply one battlefront in a broader conflict", which is exactly how Bush & Cheney defined it for 7 years. And they're suddenly aware Iran is meddling in Iraq, too!

Change!

Time Magazine heats up the tongue baths:

[Link: www.time.com...]

Whether it was chemistry with the journalist or Obama's scripted intention, Melhem came away with an interview that amounted to an unprecedented reach-out to the Muslim world by an American president. Unprompted, Obama spoke about his own Islamic connections, noting that some of his family members are Muslims and that he had lived in the largest Muslim country, Indonesia. "My job is to communicate the fact that the United States has a stake in the well-being of the Muslim world, that the language we use has to be a language of respect," Obama said. (See Barack Obama's family tree.)

Melhem had come close to an Obama interview before. He nearly snared a Q&A during then candidate Obama's visit to the Middle East last summer. Disappointed but hardly deterred, he pressed his source network again after Obama's November election victory. "I began pushing hard when I realized that he was going to be serious about the Muslim world in the first part of his administration," Melhem told TIME. The White House certainly knew who they were dealing with.

Melhem, long a vocal critic of U.S. Middle East policy, says that he was touched by Obama's conciliatory tone and references to his Muslim roots. "You can feel the authenticity about him," he says. "The interview was his way of saying, 'There is a new wind coming from Washington.'

it is so pathetic how he walked on egg shells to protect o's moslem connection.
not even mentioning his middle name, as if doing so, was calling him a fcking s.o.b. jihadi bastard, or something like that.
o was able to block so much important info from being revealed abt. himself by playing on the racist guilt of many people. these people have shown themselves to be cowardly and unreliable.
confused and crippled in their ability to think logically.
note to mccain: hussein has a huge moslem connection and he is VERY PROUD OF IT.

Yeah, my wife grew up as a Christian in a muslim country (she was born and raised). She does not brag about it or use it as a means of trying to open dialog. As she puts it, she will never go back, she has nothing there. She has muslim friends here in America that she once related the experience to. They were astounded and had no idea how bad it really is for Christians.

Obama lived as a Muslim while in Indonesia, attending mosque and taking classes in Islam at school. He still left that part out.

Because conservatism is dying because some of us are very uneducated.

Conservatism is dying because too many of America's voters are ignorant of topics like history and civics. Those who know nothing about anything that happened more than six months ago are bound to repeat most of the mistakes a civilization can make, including the fatal ones.

Liberalism is ascendant because it is easy to promise nice things to people, and the ignorant believe those promises, even if they will be patently impossible to fulfill. Further, it is always easy to purchase votes by promising the electorate something for nothing. Or by promising them things that will be financed by taxes on "the rich".

Hey O, remember Reagan's admonition - "trust, but verify", when it comes to all this newly espoused "mutual respect and interest" with members of the ROP that train to fly planes into buildings, but not land them. If not, ya better start flying CAP over all US major domestic cities (targets).

Oh, I'm sure he's just as Christian as (say) John Shelby Spong -- which is to say, he thinks that Jesus was a Great Teacher and Overall Special Guy, but doesn't necessarily subscribe to all that mumbo-jumbo in the Apostle's Creed.

Incidentally, I was going to say "Nicene Creed," but on thinking about it, I realized that LDSers and JWs, for example, don't technically subscribe to the Nicene Creed yet are in most ways more "devoutly Christian" than Spong or (probably) Obama. But I think that the Apostle's Creed encompasses LDS and JW belief, even if their rejection of the later Nicene Creed places them in a state of technical heresy as far as the vast majority of Christendom is concerned.

My 47 year old libral Jewish friend told me the Emmanuel appointment is proof positive that he looooves Juice. Such children these libs.

This is proof that Emanuel's choice does nothing to alter Obama's fundamental stance on the balance of power and life in the Middle East. He wants to sit down with Iran without preconditions. His take on Iran is dangerous, and ignores Michael Totten's observations (most US and Western observers and diplomats routinely ignore them - namely that the Arab/Palestinian conflict with Israel cannot be settled precisely because no one is talking about the same thing).

Far too many Westerners make the mistake of projecting their own views onto Palestinians without really understanding the Palestinian narrative. The “occupation” doesn’t refer to the West Bank and Gaza, and it never has. The “occupation” refers to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. A kibbutz in the center of Israel is “occupied Palestine” according to most. “It makes no sense to a Palestinian to think about a Palestinian state alongside Israel,” Martin Kramer from the Shalem Center in Jerusalem said to me a few days ago. “From the Palestinian perspective, Israel will always exist inside Palestine.”

Israel's enemies seek it's destruction, and refuse to accept a 2-state solution.

For communists anyway, true evil does not exist. Its all a quesion of class and race. Even truly evil criminals were treated better in Stalin's GULAG than the run-of-the-mill political prisoners, because they were 'one of us', i.e. the proletariat, rerpesented by the communist party.

I watch him begging Iran to "unclench your fist," and it seems to me that no one who's ever had even the slightest brush with the criminal sociopathic mentality would believe that's a smart thing to do.

William Ayres comes to mind as someone being truly evil, for one, and our President has repeatedly cited him as being one of his political mentors.

The most important aspect of this development is that 'he' is talking about it and he will use anything at anytime to anybody for his advancement. 'We' will not be allowed to expand on it still in any meaningful way. I fully expect the MSM to now embrace his muslim roots and launch a 'warm and fuzzy' positive propaganda campaign in support of this suddenly 'new' revelation of diversity. After all, the election is over and the MSM are literally slobbering all over the new ruler and the plethora of gushing, libby, hippie, love-in pieces to come.

From his book - I think referencing his apartment at Columbia

Obama tells us that the buzzer downstairs did not work and that visitors had to call from a pay phone at the corner gas station. There, "A black Doberman the size of a wolf paced through the night in vigilant patrol, its jaws clamped around an empty beer bottle."

Must have been afraid of something there.

re: #282 yma o hyd

I don't think he has.
For communists anyway, true evil does not exist. Its all a quesion of class and race. Even truly evil criminals were treated better in Stalin's GULAG than the run-of-the-mill political prisoners, because they were 'one of us', i.e. the proletariat, rerpesented by the communist party.

No - he has no idea and he has no measuring stick to compare them to.

Also, I do wonder how he'll fare when he has to rub shoudlers with the politicians of say the G7, who do have their own countries' interests to guard and do not need nor want to adore him.

IMHO its rooted deeper in leftism than that. You've got two things going on; first moral equivalence, second individual actions are the result of external stimulus, no one acts evil they only reacts to something else.

The two have a multiplier effect, there is no evil in the leftist world, as Goldwater wrote, "Liberals look only at the material..." The two factors deny the source of evil acts so they are forced to look for material sources.

Well, except for line 9 in the Creed, yeah, pretty much...

Obama, like many other Illinois, and specifically Chicago politicians, is first and foremost a confidence man. He is a grifter, a con man, and little else. He is what he wants others to see him as. It's what he learned to be as an aspiring politician in Chicago.

The Glenn Beck interview with Blago was priceless - part 2 tonight. The guy is the ultimate con-man grifter, ex-bookie, and belongs behind bars.

By the way, in Gavin Debecker's book - the Gift of Fear, he describes how to recognize con-men/predators....won't take no for an answer, have an unusual amount of charisma - like socialized sociopaths...and they lie, and lie, and lie.

Anyone see the Obama - pro-business, press conference? Of course, nothing in the bill has changed.

Obama wouldn't have considered Ayers to be "evil". He would more likely see him as a "hero for the oppressed", although he probably wouldn't want to make such a statement on the record. For the most part, Democrats don't believe in evil, or that people could be evil (with the exception of the Republicans; a satanist sacrificing a baby on an alter is just part of religious movement that we need to be tolerant of, but Karl Rove is Satan's bitch, so of course he is evil).

I think the reason that the only evil liberals see is republicans or conservatives is because those groups represent the concept of holding on to your own. And this flies in the face of the liberal collectivist mindset where there is no such thing as 'your own'.....

I've been thinking about it, and not to sound conspiratorial, but do you think that even if none of this could stick to Obama staff, that Blago is calling for the release of all tapes because there may be something embarassing to Emanuel or someone else in Obama's inner circle. Therefore he goes around saying he wants all the tapes released, thinking that if he makes enough noise, someone will take care of him with some kind of payoff or cushy job so that he quietly resigns and/or pleads guilty? Maybe I'm tilting at windmills, but the more he is in the limelight, the worse it looks for Dems, so maybe he's trying to be annoying enough to be "dealt with" or he may be setting up his book deal. The American Left is valueless, they care only about the acquisition of power. Hence the reason that Obama's Muslim upbringing was verboten during the Presidential contest, too many people have boned-up on the subject since 9/11 and know what an immense threat Islam is to the free world. Now that they have acquired the power, stunningly btw, why does it matter that he is Muslim: after all Muslims routinely hate America which almost makes them an honorary member of the American Left.

Of course Obama brought his Muslim background out of the closet to gain traction with the jihadis. He's so clueless, he doesn't realize that the jihadis interpret this pandering as a victory for their side.

If giving jihadis a sense of victory by saying "I have Muslim roots" had the same effect as maintaining a sizable military presence in Iraq, Afgahnistan, and maybe Iran, I'd be all for it. Certainly it'd be a lot cheaper. Of course, it's obviously not that simple, but it'd be nice if it were.

Every Lib I know and have talked with has no problem with higher payroll taxes if it "evens out the playing field" and makes things more "fair" for thy neighbor. And notice, he is being very nuanced. He never states above that he WAS a Muslim, but that he had Muslim roots, lived in Muslim countries etc.

I don't care if he was a teratophiliac, it's his bullshitting that bothers me.

The message for me is, believe me, I'm not muslim and I am not performing taquiya.

457 hazzyday  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 11:36:58am

Lack of a father. Pres Obama has weak underpinnings. When he gets stressfully backed into a corner he will be an angry president. He will fall back to his 20's or his childhood. Roots. Either he will exacerbate his Alinsky leanings or he will revert to a form of islam that was safe to him in his childhood.

Let's try to keep our terminology correct, pplz. The Jewish equivalent of a "Pabstism" is, naturally, a "Bar Schlitzvah."

Like our supreme leader let us be all inclusive and not forget..."Bat Schlitzvah" and "Dingbats/Moonbats Schlitzvah."

460 michaelhop  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 12:19:53pm

What a surprise. The Democrats lied to the American people about Wonder Boy and duped a bunch of useless idiots into voting him into office.

For the first time in my life, I am ashamed of my country.

re: #451 scullymj

I'll go that far. There is little in the Black Liberation Theology that Obama bought into that resembles Christianity. Only God knows, but in my opinion, Obama is not a Christian. Not even a nominal Christian.

Agree. More than a few of his comments and actions as well as the First Lady's have been rather non-Christian which in my mind would tend to help prove your opinion and they continue to add to this perception.

It would be very interesting to know how many ex-PsOTUS chose not to attend church on the first Christmas after their election? To demonstrate one's faith and religious convictions to the country one leads is vitally important in my opinion and especially to not do so in a time of War or other national crisis in general is shameful.

It is ironic how some liberals when placed in the highest offices of leadership in this country seem to promote "freedom from religion" rather than embrace and promote "freedom of religion" with their actions...unless of course votes are desperately needed in an hurry. Surf's up BHO!

Likely as not Billy and Bernie were so nuanced about their evil designs they could pass as "just some folks in the neighborhood... " OTOH, take someone like that Egyptian Cleric from the video posted yesterday, now THAT'S what I think of when I think of unabashed Evil. Precisely the mentality he's going to find himself dealing with in short order.

re: #225 Honorary Yooper

Obama is a shape-shifter. He modifies himself for that moment, and that moment only to be what he wants you to see. Sort of like the T-1000, except it's the O-2008.

I think that description applies to Bill Clinton better than it does to Obama. He's more of a mirror, in that people see in him what they want to see. He speaks, and people read into it what they themselves believe.

That was in the campaign and when Obama is speaking. It remains to be seen if he can maintain this illusion while he is president, when he actually has to make decisions that do not require interpretation.

re: #118 Charles

I think Barack Obama is neither a Christian nor a Muslim, that his outward appearances of religiosity are nothing but a political necessity.

Yep - there's no way around it if you want to be president - you have to do the 'religious thing' whether you believe it or not - it might be a long time before that changes. But he hasn't hidden his real views entirely. For example, in this speech he gave on religion and secularism from last year he doesn't explicitly reveal his 'infidel status' as such but it gives a clear idea of where he is coming from, I think:

469 GGMac  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 1:30:52pm

Well, there's been all this speculation that hishusseinness has the messiah complex - encouraged by his wallowing fawning hoards. Perhaps a clearer picture of his self-image is not that he's the second coming of the Christ, but rather that he's the 12th imam.

With the cast of islamic characters in his orbit at/since inauguration, one certainly wonders - from Rick Warren referring to Jesus by the name acceptable to muslims, to his cozy call to Abbas, to this insufferable white-flag-waving interview with those who exist to slaughter anti-MOs - one has to at the very least wonder about his overall agenda.

re: #221 Charles

I wonder if Obama has ever had an actual personal encounter with a truly evil person? From all accounts his life has been very sheltered. I watch him begging Iran to "unclench your fist," and it seems to me that no one who's ever had even the slightest brush with the criminal sociopathic mentality would believe that's a smart thing to do.

I do think Obama is a "true belliever" and in that sense, sheltered from the evil that is political thuggery (Chicago) and radical chic (all his mentors). As for meeting evil people, he has met them and doesn't see it, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil--a true believer in multicultural/progressive politics. Bernadine D. William Ayers domestic terrorists, steeped in lies and utterly without remorse.

A lot of moonbat ideas have a "it'd be nice" ring to them.
It's the next step of analyzing the consequences that separates you and I from them.

Whenever politicians use scripture to bolster their beliefs, I break out in hives.
In this clip Obama asks whether the DOD has ever heard Jesus' sermon on the mount.

That sermon was NOT political in any way. He was not addressing the government or especially the military of His day. He was speaking to individuals.

Obama is naive and arrogant -- an extremely dangerous combination given the world situation. The far left will always make excuses for him. But the middle-of-the-road swing voters-- they're the ones who might wake up before long and wonder why Mr. President is trying to play both ends. With any luck, they'll get sick of the double-dealing where he tells Americans his Muslim background is a non-issue, but plays up the Islam angle to the Arabs. So, which is it, Mr. President? You can't have it both ways. It comes across as phony.

488 So?  Wed, Jan 28, 2009 8:41:46pm

I mentioned this in one of my posts yesterday (again ignored) where I said had he said those things while running for president, Obama would NOT be sitting in the White House today. "All that’s fine, except why was no one allowed to talk much about it before he snagged the Electoral College majority?"

Because the people who supported President Obama wanted it that way. Now that he is President we a going to learn a lot about him that was hidden during the election. 2010 could very well be the year of "Buyers Remorse".

494 tyree  Thu, Jan 29, 2009 4:28:33am

So? said,
"This is a man who, despite his liberal ideology, would still bleed on our flag to keep the stripes red, just like you or me."

You have no evidence of that. He said, "I will not wear that flag on my lapel". He took his children to a racist church. He never served in the military and runs with a crowd that hates it. We know so little about President Obama we really don't know if he cares about us, or just the people he feels he was elected to help. He may be part Muslim, but I am an infidel and I don't have any confidence in President Obama's desire to protect me from Muslim terrorists.

The french fabulists Jean de La Fontaine wrote a tale about a bat traveling during a war between birds and rats.

meeting birds it claimed :
" Je suis oiseau voyez mes ailes " I am a bird look at my wings ! ,

meeting rats it claimed :
" Je suis souris vive les rats !" I am a mouse hooray to the rats !
