If Barack Obama is tired now, just wait until the North Koreans test their long-range ballistic missile.

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea appears to be preparing to test-launch its longest range ballistic missile, media reports said on Tuesday, stoking tensions just days after the reclusive state warned that the Korean peninsula was on the brink of war.

North Korea last week scrapped all agreements with South Korea, a move analysts said was in response to Seoul’s tough policies toward Pyongyang as well as designed to grab the attention of U.S. President Barack Obama.

When scientists build guitars...
'Chameleon Guitar' blends old-world and high-tech

The Chameleon Guitar -- so named for its ability to mimic different instruments -- is an electric guitar whose body has a separate central section that is removable. This inserted section, the soundboard, can be switched with one made of a different kind of wood, or with a different structural support system, or with one made of a different material altogether. Then, the sound generated by the electronic pickups on that board can be manipulated by a computer to produce the effect of a different size or shape of the resonating chamber.

Russia cuts a supply line to Afghanistan

Just two weeks after supposedly agreeing to expand supply lines into Afghanistan, Russia cut one of the more important supply lines available to NATO. Vladimir Putin gave Kyrgyzstan over $2 billion, and the Central Asian country not-so-coincidentally booted the US from their air base

...

The problem was never in Krygyzstan. Biden predicted that world leaders would challenge Obama and his inexperience within the first few months of the adminstration, but they’ve already started to line up in the first few days. Iran launched a satellite on an ICBM to show they could go ballistic once they have nuclear weapons. North Korea reportedly has set up another ICBM for a test to threaten Seoul. Now Russia has flipped an ally in the war on terror — and all of this in the first 14 days of Obama’s presidency.

I thought the world was going to love us once he became president. I'm so confused.

Yes. "The Little Prince" is the title. No info (I'm staying away from spoilers all together, even press releases for upcoming episodes).

But, you probably have noticed, the shows plot arc is evolving. You are starting to see the set up for "self fulfilled prophecy" on Locke's part. They have intertexually borrowed from Foucault's Pendulum. That's why I started reading the book as a companion to the show. The book has no clues, but the book describes an idea, an idea that is driving LOST. Interesting.

OT: Facepalm-worthy E-mail from Barack 0bama:

The economic crisis is growing more serious every day, and the time for action has come.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will jumpstart our economy and put more than 3 million people back to work.

I hope to sign the recovery plan into law in the next few weeks. But I need your help to spread the word and build support.

It's not enough for this bill to simply pass Congress. Americans need to know how it will affect their lives -- they need to know that help is on the way and that this administration is investing in economic growth and stability.

Governor Tim Kaine has agreed to record a video outlining the recovery plan and answering questions about what it means for each of our communities. You can submit your questions online and then invite your friends, family, and neighbors to watch the video with you at an Economic Recovery House Meeting.

Join thousands of people across our country by hosting or attending an Economic Recovery House Meeting this weekend.

The stakes are too high to allow partisan politics to get in the way.

That's why I've consulted with Republicans as well as Democrats to put together a plan that will address the crisis we face.

I've also taken steps to ensure an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability. Once it's passed, you will be able to see how every penny in this plan is being spent.

You can help restore confidence in our economy by making sure your friends, family, and neighbors understand how the recovery plan will impact their community.

Sign up to host or attend an Economic Recovery House Meeting and submit your question for the video now:

[Link: my.barackobama.com...]

The American ability to come together as a nation in difficult times has never been more important.

I know I can rely on your spirit and resolve as we lead our country to recovery.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

P.S. -- If you can't host or attend an Economic Recovery House Meeting, you can still submit your questions for Governor Kaine and then share the video with your friends and family this weekend.

re: #245 Iron Fist

Obama's got no balls. No balls at all. Maybe Michelle has them in a box on her nightstand or something. The danger of a truly pusillanimous man who nevertheless achieves power is that he feels compelled to prove himself by exercising that power to the fullest extent possible. This desire can cause them to make heinous mistakes and never to be able to admit it or do anything to rectify the situation.

Don't forget, Hildabeast is also on da job.

This was hot topic du jour last night. A "house meeting" is a term coined by the FWU. Cutting to the chase, the socialist/communist overtones in this boggles the mind. I can't help but hope it was penned by a labor-friendly aid who had no clue the history of the term, nor the fact that most would be repealed by such a term. It's an organizing effort of the populace, and flies on the face of how we do business here - through elected officials.

Now Rush is on vacation, Barry has no foil to rail against, his plans are falling apart around him and the Axis of Evil is back in full force. I wonder what GWB and Cheney think of all this. On one level it must be funny, but there can't be much pleasure in saying 'I told ya so' when the stakes are this high.

They are both Americans, they are more than likely just as terrified as we are, if not more so. They KNOW what is gonna go down, in minute detail.

Check out:
[Link: formerspook.blogspot.com...]

Perhaps this was inevitable. Gareth Porter of the Inter Press Service is reporting that President Obama and his CENTCOM Commander, General David Petraeus, are on a collision course over Iraq.

...

You can almost hear the White House source chuckling as they relayed their version of events. It sounds vaguely reminiscent of Mr. Obama's "I won" comment, during a meeting with Congressional Republicans last week. As the new decider-in-chief, President Obama will chart our policy in Iraq (and other global hotspots).

But dismissing the advice of senior generals is usually a bad idea, as Mr. Obama will eventually discover. If Gareth Porter is correct--and no one has come forward to dispute his version of events--then President Obama is facing a potential revolt among his senior military advisers.

...

re: #3 Cathypop

If he's in the fetal position now, we as a nation are truly screwed. I can only hope that is not the case. We need our presidents to protect and defend the nation, and if Obama is tired now, that's probably because this is the first time in his life he's actually got to work 24/7/365 and every single decision means something. It's life and death decisions he's making, and the weight of the power of his Office is now coming to bear.

It's not all about fawning interviews with Matt Lauer on the Super Bowl pre-show. It's about figuring out what to do over Kashmir. It's how to deal with Iran going nuclear. It's about nuclear proliferation among regimes that could care less about deterrence and about fulfilling religious prophesies.

Oh, and that's just the foreign policy stuff, where Presidents go when the domestic side is truly screwed up (it's a refuge for legacy building - especially in the ME peace process) or when you need a quick bounce in the polls. And here, the domestic stuff is a mess; between his nominations mess and the economy, he's probably hoping for a Camp David retreat.

He's going to learn quickly that DC sucks, especially for a family with two small kids. Camp David will be his favorite place to go (outside of his Chicago home), except that the media wont complain nearly as much about him going out of DC as they did when Bush found DC so horribly distasteful and dishonorable.

I know liberals don't like to do this, but Obama needs to pick winners and losers--fast--among tin pot dictators. It seems like everyone wants to test Obama at once. Even if Obama were more up to the challenge, the US cannot take on all the bad actors on the stage acting up at the same time.

It worked for Bush. He picked Gaddafi as winner, Hussein as loser, and punted on the rest. Unfortunately for Obama, Iran sorely needs to be put in its place more than anyone. As unseemly as it would be to cozy up to Chavez, he should be the one chosen to make nice with.

DO ANY OF THESE PEOPLE PAY TAXES?

“Nancy Killefer on Tuesday withdrew her nomination to become chief performance officer, a new post in President Obama’s administration, a White House spokesman told CNN. Officials said privately the reason for the withdrawal was unspecified tax issues. The withdrawal is an embarrassment to the White House, as the much-touted post was aimed at scrubbing the federal budget.”

No. No. no, no. George Washington Plunkitt said an honest politician is one who when he is bought, he stays bought. And LBJ, if I recall correctly, said of a Latin American dictator , he's a bastard but he's OUR bastard.

OT i received a copy of the "American Spectator" magazine in the mail today.In an article titled "Blogged Down", by James Taranto,(a member of the WSJ's editorial board), there was this quote;

It was a blogger, Charles Johnson of LittleGreenFootballsdotcom, who proved that the "memos" that were the basis of CBS's hit piece on President Bush's National Guard service were produced on Microsoft Word, not a 1970's typewriter. Conservative bloggers also gave respectful attention to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, who challenged John Kerry's campaign narrative portraying him as a war hero. The mainstream media had, for the most part, uncritically repeated that narrative and almost unanimously dismissed the Swift Boat Veterans as liars.

Interesting, though short, article. Congrats Charles on the recognition.

Gee...already I am nostalgic for the worry-free five minutes of the Biden administration.

That Hope n change thing is not working out too well so far, is it? So far, three tax cheats appointed to hight gov't positions, an assistant labor sec. nominee who knows nothing about the labor laws and who was an officer of a lobbying group that lobbied Congress in favor of a bill she sponored and a few Global Warming socialists put in positions of power.

The Iranians and North Koreans have thanked him for his apologies and told him to go to hell. They are apparently not too impressed with the Audacity of Hope and his Message of Hope and Change.

It's a lot easier to scream at Bush, Cheney and Sean Hannity than it is to run a country and be leader of the free world, isn't it, Captain Clueless?
