Nazi War Criminal Escaped Justice in Egypt, Converted to Islam

World • Views: 4,354

He was a pious Muslim convert who went to the Al-Azhar mosque daily, living in Cairo, Egypt, until his death in 1992.

And he was also one of the most monstrous Nazi war criminals still at large, who performed medical experiments on imprisoned Jews in the Mauthausen concentration camp: Fate of Dr. Aribert Heim, the Most-Wanted Nazi War Criminal, Is Uncovered.

CAIRO — Even in old age the imposingly tall, athletic German known to locals as Tarek Hussein Farid maintained the discipline to walk some 15 miles each day through the busy streets of Egypt’s capital. He walked to the world-renowned Al Azhar mosque here, where he converted to Islam, and to the ornate J. Groppi Cafe downtown, where he ordered the chocolate cakes he sent to friends and bought the bonbons he gave to their children, who called him Uncle Tarek.

Friends and acquaintances here in Egypt also remember him as an avid amateur photographer who almost always wore a camera around his neck, but never allowed himself to be photographed. And with good reason: Uncle Tarek was born Aribert Ferdinand Heim, a member of Hitler’s elite Waffen-SS and a medical doctor at the Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen and Mauthausen concentration camps.

It was behind the gray stone walls of Mauthausen, in his native Austria, that Dr. Heim committed the atrocities against hundreds of Jews and others that earned him the nickname Dr. Death and his status as the most wanted Nazi war criminal still believed by the Simon Wiesenthal Center to be at large.

Dr. Heim was accused of performing operations on prisoners without anesthesia; removing organs from healthy inmates, then leaving them to die on the operating table; injecting poison, including gasoline, into the hearts of others; and taking the skull of at least one victim as a souvenir. After living below the radar of Nazi hunters for more than a decade after World War II — much of it in the German spa town of Baden-Baden where he had a wife, two sons and a medical practice as a gynecologist — he escaped capture just as investigators closed in on him in 1962.

While not all pious Muslims are Nazis, all too often there doesn't seem to be much of contradiction between being one or the other.

I can't possibly imagine why he felt that Egypt was a place to seek refuge.
I can't possibly imagine why he converted to Islam and felt comfortable among fellow Muslims who routinely called for the death to Jews and the destruction of Israel.

This guy slipped through US hands once, and then disappeared for years. They thought he went to South America - another refuge for the Nazi war criminals, but went to Egypt where he fit right in...

I believe that same Khazars theme has popped up lately in some of the eurofascism threads.

He was a pious Muslim convert who went to the Al-Azhar mosque daily, living in Cairo, Egypt, until his death in 1992.

Is that mosque tied to the university?:

If the war on terror is to be won, we must first understand the perspective of our opponent. One of the principal inspirations for the type of Islamist ideology pursued by Osama bin Laden and his Egyptian chief lieutenant, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, is the work of Egyptian Islamist Sayyid Qutb (1906-66). Qutb was an important theorist in the Islamist movement and a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun). His opposition to the secular Arab nationalism of Nasser led to his execution in 1966; he was accused of plotting to overthrow the Egyptian government. Qutb's elegant prose barely conceals the rage against injustice and immorality that drove him, but it was his militant interpretation of jihad ("striving in the cause of God") that would later inspire Dr. Abdullah Azzam (1941-89), the late founder of the organization that would become al Qaeda. While studying at Cairo's Al-Azhar University (Sunni Islam's preeminent theological school), Azzam became close to Qutb's family and legacy. Working in large part from Qutb's ideas, Azzam transformed radical Islam from a group of disparate national movements into a potent international force during the Afghan-Soviet war.

27 quickjustice  Thu, Feb 5, 2009 11:48:12am

Arafat's uncle, the Haj of Jerusalem, was a close personal buddy of Hitler's. The Ba'ath Parties in the Middle East were founded by the Gestapo to combat British interests there. Those parties, however, were more nationalist and secular than religious. It's no surprise that an escaping Nazi could find refuge there. I just wonder how many more there are?

And the money quote:

Until political winds shifted, ex-Nazis were welcomed in Egypt in the years after World War II, helping in particular with military technology. Rüdiger Heim said that his father told him he knew other Nazis there, but tried to steer clear of them.

Even so, how Dr. Heim was able to elude his pursuers for so long, while receiving money from Europe, most notably from his late sister, Herta Barth, and corresponding with friends and family in long letters, is unclear.

“The Arab world was an even better, a safer haven than South America,” said Efraim Zuroff, the Israel director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, who had been searching for Dr. Heim and traveled to Chile last July to raise awareness about the case. Mr. Zuroff expressed surprise when informed of Dr. Heim’s apparent fate, saying the center had been about to raise the reward for information leading to his arrest to $1.3 million from $400,000.

CBO: Obama stimulus harmful over long haul

President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing.

""This recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse," Obama wrote in the newspaper piece titled,

"The Action Americans Need."

He rejected the argument that more tax cuts are needed in the plan and that piecemeal measures would be sufficient, arguing that Americans made their intentions clear in the election.
"I reject these theories, and so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change," he wrote."

re: #40 pink freud

Some interesting historical background, by John Loftus.

THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, THE NAZIS AND AL-QA'IDA

Everyone thinks that Islam is this fanatical religion, but it is not. They think that Islam -- the Saudi version of Islam -- is typical, but it's not. The Wahhabi cult has been condemned as a heresy more than 60 times by the Muslim nations. But when the Saudis got wealthy, they bought a lot of silence. This is a very harsh cult. Wahhabism was only practised by the Taliban and in Saudi Arabia -- that's how extreme it is. It really has nothing to do with Islam. Islam is a very peaceful and tolerant religion. It always had good relationships with the Jews for the first thousand years of its existence.

WHAT?

The most striking paragraphs, as so often happens, are at the end of the story:

The agency projected the Senate bill would produce between 1.4 percent and 4.1 percent higher growth in 2009 than if there was no action. For 2010, the plan would boost growth by 1.2 percent to 3.6 percent.

CBO did project the bill would create jobs, though by 2011 the effects would be minuscule.

In 1979, the CIA decided to take the Arab Nazis out of cold storage. The Russians had invaded Afghanistan, so we told the Saudis that we would fund them if they would bring all of the Arab Nazis together and ship them off to Afghanistan to fight the Russians. We had to rename them. We couldn't call them the Muslim Brotherhood because that was too sensitive a name. Its Nazi past was too known. So we called them Maktab al-Khadamat al-Mujahidin, the MAK.

And the CIA lied to Congress and said they didn't know who was on the payroll in Afghanistan, except the Saudis. But it was not true. A small section of the CIA knew perfectly well that we had once again hired the Arab Nazis and that we were using them to fight our secret wars.

Azzam and his assistant, Osama bin Laden, rose to some prominence from 1979 to 1989, and they won the war. They drove the Russians outq of Afghanistan. Our CIA said, "We won -- let's go home!", and we left this army of Arab fascists in the field of Afghanistan.

The Saudis didn't want [them] to come back. The Saudis started paying bribes to Osama bin Laden and his followers to stay out of Saudi Arabia. Now the MAK was split in half. Azzam was mysteriously assassinated, apparently by Osama bin Laden himself. The radical group -- the most radical of the merge of the Arab fascists and religious extremists -- Osama called Al-Qa'ida. But to this day, there are branches of the Muslim Brotherhood all through Al-Qa'ida.

first we're talking about someone who converted in 1946, so your statement of "islam today" fails.

Closest I have seen is :

"lol all muslims ∩ nazis" (which means "lol all muslim intersect with nazis)

But I have yet to see a claim of equivalence as such a claim would be hard to prove.

What amazes me is that the New York Times wrote that entire article without really once pointing out the obvious...

The New York Times and the left in general are so fond of making damn sure that anti-Israel "sentiments" in the Arab world really have nothing to do with hatred of Jews. They'll even go so far as to write about the smoking gun as to how that really isn't true, and they'll never connect the dots.

That article should really have included a sentence along the lines of: "Aribert Heim went to Egypt because he felt safe there among people who shared his Nazi ideology."

But it didn't say that. That article disgusted me.

What is her actual heritage?

Giselle Bundschen is of German heritage.

Her great-great-grandparents emigrated to Brazil from Germany.

There is actually a sizable German community in Brazil.

There is no reason that I know of to suggest that she is descended from Nazis, but even if she were I don't see how you can hold that against her. The great-grandchild of a Nazi isn't a Nazi. You don't hold the children accountable for the sins of their ancestors.

As to the earlier remark that most Germans supported the Nazis, that isn't entirely true. Certainly there were a large number of Germans that supported the Nazis, but not all. Empirically, Hitler was soundly beaten when he ran for election in 1932.

I thought last night Lost was a pretty weak episode. The story didn't advance much and they are turning Sawyer into a cliched redneck who makes an occasional snarky one-liner but doesn't have much depth. They are wasting somne possibilities with him. I enjoyed the rerun of last week's episode with added commentary in the subtitles. I'm always surprised how much I missed the first time around. I think they should kill off Jack, Kate and Sawyer. I know they're supposed to be the central characters but it just doesn't work for me.

the people making comments like "lol all muslims = nazis" are retarded

Look, SJ, it's like this: The fact that an avowed Nazi should convert (or revert, see my early post) to a religion noted for:

1) The presence of genocidal hatred against Jews as a matter of doctrine and faith;

2) Genocide of the Jews as a necessary condition of its eschatology; and

3) The close ties and sympathies between its leadership (the Grand Mufti, Mohammad Amin al-Husayni) and the leadership of the Third Reich during the war

is hardly surprising to anyone. If it is your intention to point out that not all Muslims are Nazis, and not all Nazis are Muslim, you are, of course, correct. If, however, you mean to argue that there is no affinity there, you are, unfortunately, sadly mistaken.

re: #248 SpaceJesus

funny how that post doesn't say that. it says "Nazi to Muslim, a natural progression."

Yeah, all those Nazis who moved to Brazil and learned Portugese and converted to Catholicism surely make all Catholics and Brazilians Nazis now.

I think someone here tried to explain it to you, but I will try too. I forget you need extra patience when addressing children, so here goes:

You are correct socrates, I did write "From Nazi to Muslim. Seems like a logical progression to me." This is in reference to one individual who, (1) was a nazi, and (2) became a Muslim. I commented that this seemed like a natural progression. All I can say is that "one person" is not "all people," unless you have a natural inclination toward socialism, but we can leave that excoriation for another time (if you are still around).

Now, my issue with you, before you made ridiculous comments and it got personal, was with your use of the word "retarded." In my mind it is no different than saying you got "Gypped" or "Jew-ed down." In case you were not aware, some people here might find those terms offensive, kind of like "retarded."

first we're talking about someone who converted in 1946, so your statement of "islam today" fails.

second of all, you are a equating a few modern rabid fundamentalists of being representative of a religion with over a billion followers and various sects.

Final attempt:
1st of all I said "modern day" as opposed to say the time of big MO and the middle ages.
2nd I did not equate anyone with another. I said "to disregard the possible equivalence". I.E. if something quacks like a duck, walks like a duck and has feathers like a duck then it behooves one to consider that IT MAY BE A DUCK! or closely related.

Apparently YOU CAN'T READ ENGLISH which many "retarded" people can therefore YOU MUST BE DUMBER THAN A MORON (once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70, being superior in one degree to "imbecile" (IQ of 26-50) and superior in two degrees to "idiot" (IQ of 0-25)) and appear to have become so voluntarily.
You appear to have an exposed nerve concerning the acceptance by the majority of Muslims (actively or passively) of the barbarities perpetrated by self-declared warriors of Islam who can point out, in the Koran, passages which appear to justify their position.

Only recently, since the "glorious warriors of Islam" have begun killing more Muslims than kafirs, have "moderate" Muslims begun to condemn these barbaric acts committed by savages in the name of their G!D.
Even so, only recently we have had a prominent Islamic leader expressing a desire to "kill Jews".
I'd say that qualifies as justifying eying all Muslims skeptically concerning what their inner feelings of brotherhood with the Jews may or may not be.

No, but, and here's the distinction, and it's a crucial one:

Neither the Christian church, nor any branch or division thereof not headed by an absolute flaming lunatic, claims that the Author of Creation, the L-rd G-d Almighty, revealed to any of the prophets that the Jews were to be utterly exterminated as a matter of religious duty, moral obligation, or eschatological narrative. The Koran, however, in combination with the Sunna and the Hadith, has all this, and more. That's the difference; you won't find genocide as an element of revelation, doctrine, or tradition in Christianity or Judaism.

I mean, i know you're from space and all, but still, you should know that much.

332 JHW  Thu, Feb 5, 2009 12:57:31pm

Egypt has had a long history of sanctuary to Nazis. Otto Skorzeny, the Nazi SS commando was heavily involved in Nasser's government and the ODESSA organization.

After Gamal Abdel Nasser became Egypt's president, for example, a number of Nazis were given prominent positions in his government. Nazi commando Otto Skorzeny trained thousands of Egyptians in guerilla and desert warfare, and even organized early Palestinian terrorist forays into Israel and the Gaza Strip in the mid-1950s. Johann von Leers, who had been a high-ranking assistant to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, produced material for Nasser attacking the United States and Israel. Von Leers even converted to Islam during this period, adopting the name Oman Amin von Leers. Corresponding with a fellow fascist, von Leers opined that "if my nation had got Islam instead of Christianity we should not have had all the traitors we had in World War II."

Strange Allies....from the Weekly Standard

But in the summer of 1942, when Rommel's Afrikakorps stood just over 100 kilometers from Alexandria and were poised to march into Cairo, Sadat, Nasser and their buddies were in close touch with the German attacking force and - with Brotherhood help - preparing an anti-British uprising in Egypt's capital. A treaty with Germany including provisions for German recognition of an independent, but pro-Axis Egypt had been drafted by Sadat, guaranteeing that "no British soldier would leave Cairo alive". When Rommel's push east failed at El Alamein in the fall of 1942, Sadat and several of his co-conspirators were arrested by the British and sat out much of the remainder of the war in jail.

Islamist-fascist collaboration did not cease with war's end. King Farouk brought large numbers of German military and intelligence personnel as well as ranking (ex-) Nazis into Egypt as advisors. It was a bad move. Several of the Germans, recognizing Farouk's political weakness, soon began conspiring with Nasser and his free officers (who, in turn, were working closely with the Brotherhood) to overthrow the king. On July 23, 1952, the deed was done and Newsweek marveled that, "The most intriguing aspect [of] the revolt ... was the role played in the coup by the large group of German advisors serving with the Egyptian army ... The young officers who did the actual planning consulted the German advisors as to 'tactics' ... This accounted for the smoothness of the operation

From Asia Times article Islam, Fascism, and Terrorism

And then there is the strange case of another Nazi "doctor", this one from Buchenwald, Hannes Eisele, who escaped to and found refuge in Egypt.

Although he didn't make it to any one of the post-war tribunals for crimes against humanity, a US military court in Dachau found Eisele guilty and sentenced him to death. Yet for some unknown reason, capital punishment was commuted to life imprisonment. Shortly afterwards Eisele was released and even allowed to practice medicine in Munich as of 1952. Evidently, the SS Old Boys network was still active.

Eisele's medical union card was revoked only after his mysterious escape from Germany in 1958 became public and after it was brought to the attention of the Bavarian Justice Minister, Dr. Ankermuller.

By the time a warrant for Eisele's arrest was issued on 28 June 1958 based on incriminating "new" evidence received from a Herr Zommer, a former colleague from the Buchenwald days, the Doctor and his family were safely on board the SS Esperia which had set sail from Genoa for Alexandria the previous day

I have to correct myself; I should have said "you can't understand English"
and equating that with being a moron, of course, was stupid because many people can't understand English and they're not morons.
That said, my point was that space j couldn't comprehend what I meant by what I wrote through their own haze of preconceived notions and that that condition was voluntarily arrived at.

ooo hey, ever heard of a synonym? you know, one of those words that you can interchange with another even though it doesn't mean exactly the same thing to get the same meaning across given the context of the sentence?

The problem Mr. Synonym, is that you are apparently injecting your synonyms willy nilly into our comments to come up with whatever you need to suit your goofy world view, and then challenging some of us on your interpretation of something we never said.

Claim of "Word of God"
by Mehdi Mazloom on Wed Nov 19, 2008 09:31 AM PST

Many Muslims on this forum will have to forgive me for posting these passages. Nonetheless, as long as all sects of Islam - including that of Shi'a, people being fed these passages from the Quran. Then forced fed to believe them as "word of Allah".

As long as good an honest Muslims do not publicaly condemn these hate filled passages. we will continue to have conflict between all religions - not only Shia-Sunni sects.

Many moderates in Judea-Christian groups have already done so to similar passages in their respective holy book. It is time for rational and level headed Muslims to take charge and lead the way to a similar path.

"The Hour [Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and kill them. And the Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!"

This, of course, jihadis love to use to justify their murder.

Mohammad, being "the perfect man," is a model for all Muslims. If he sanctions Jew-killing, and he does, it's binding.

Don't be obtuse. Islam is explicitly supremacist, and its history shows clearly how its texts and associated stories have been used to legitimize slaughter. They are still used that way today, and they all draw on the Koran's contempt for Jews for corroboration.

Really? point to me in the Qu'ran where it says to wipe out the Jews

Koran:
"9.30" : And the Jews say: "Uzair is the son of Allah"; and the
Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of
their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may
Allah destroy them
; how they are turned away!

33:26 "Allah took down the People of the Scripture Book. He cast
terror into their hearts. Some you slew, and some you made prisoners.
And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, and their goods,
giving you a land which you had not traversed before." [Version two:]
"And He drove the People of the Scripture down from their homes and
cast panic into their hearts. Some you killed, and you made some
captive. And He caused you to inherit their farms, houses, wealth, and
land you have not trodden."

Koran 5:64 "The Jews say: "Allah's hand is tied up". Be their hands tied up and be they ACCURSED for the blasphemy that they utter. Nay, Both his hands (Allah's) are widely outstretched: He giveth and Spendeth as he Pleaseth. But the revelation that cometh to Thee (Mohammed) from Allah increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. Amongst them we have placed ENMITY and HATRED till the day of Judgement. Every time they kindle the fire of War, Allah doth extinguish it; But they ever strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not people who do mischief."

Koran 5:82 “Thou wilt surely find the most hostile of men to the believers are the Jews and the idolaters; and thou wilt surely find the nearest of them in love to the believers are those who say 'We are Christians'; that, because some of them are priests and monks, and they wax not proud.”

Koran 2:61: And humiliation and wretchedness were stamped upon [the Jews] and they were visited with wrath from Allah. That was because they disbelieved in Allah's revelations and slew the prophets wrongfully. That was for their disobedience and transgression. [i.e. Jews are cursed by Allah]

Koran 2:96: And thou wilt find [the Jews] greediest of mankind for life and (greedier) than the idolaters.

Koran 62:6: O ye who are Jews! If ye claim that ye are favoured of Allah apart from (all) mankind, then long for death if ye are truthful.

That enough for you, or would you like to go into Sunna & Hadith, the authentic traditions and biography of Mohammed, according to all orthodox muslim scholars? Because, there's plenty more there.

It's the combination of legalism and idealism that gets me. A lot of academics are trying to use the Koran as a wedge: if it doesn't say "wipe out the Jews" then Muslims shouldn't try to wipe out the Jews. This is an anachronism that every school of Islamic thought would reject, and has rejected. But in the flood of human, that fact doesn't stop idealists from clinging to whatever stray bits of wood they can find. They don't realize the world doesn't give a rat's ass about their niceties.

Really? You must have missed the part that to become an SS you had to sign papers renouncing the Church. You can through all your undergrad

I can through all my undergrad?

And I'm not saying the SS didn't have to renounce the church, I have no idea if they had to or not, and even if this fact were true, it would not be dispositive of statement. If you think the 3rd Reich was not ChristianLutheran, then I suggest you go read a book or two.

You're right Suzette, I meant to comment on that, he also got it wrong about official religions I think. IIRC in Austria and Bavaria the official religion was/is Roman Catholic, maybe some of the other German states also. I don't think Germany had an official national religion, it was up to the individual states, although I could be mistaken on this.

yes, you are.

To become an SS you had to sign papers renouncing the Church of whatever Christian Faith. Period.
And Hitler didn't care too much for Christianity either.

Where's your evidence to back that up? You asserted that Nazi Germany was Lutheran. An "expert" as you claim to be would surely know the extent of Roman Catholicism in several of the German states and Austria, part of Germany after the Anschluss.

Ok, all may be an ever-so-slight exaggeration. At some risk of offending the worlds' billion-plus moderate muslims (people keep telling me they exist), I'm replying with some hope of irritating you into some self-educaton:
1) Fez - fez.jpg (image w/ nazi death head)

2) Pinup of Le docteur Heim for your viewing pleasure - on right, scroll a bit. Scroll more, learn more. There's also an English link, but content is inconsistent.

3) Tell the children the truth

4) Jihad = struggle (or holy war)
Mein Kampf = my struggle (or battle)

Feel free to ding me down.

I'm sorry but you're talking to someone who did his undergrad in German and German History, and the 3rd Reich was absolutely in love with the Lutheran Church mainly because of the anti-semitic writings of Martin Luther.

I like how people who think they know a little bit about military history style themselves experts on history by the way.

I'm sorry but I did undergrad, grad and post-grad in German and German history, and I helped to translate this book about the Nazi legal system, and you, sir, don't have the first clue what you're talking about.

unfortunately, amazon.com took away their "search inside this book" feature, so I'll just refer you to the term Reichskirche, which was the state religion of Nazi Germany which relied heavily on the teachings of Martin Luther with special attention given to Luther's anti-jewish rants and essays.

re: #419 SpaceJesus

Reichskirche does not equate to Lutheranism. Here is what Wiki has to say on your "Reichskirche" straw man.

Other members of the Hitler government, including Rosenberg, during the war formulated a thirty-point program for the "National Reich Church" which included:

* The National Reich Church claims exclusive right and control over all Churches.
* The National Church is determined to exterminate foreign Christian faiths imported into Germany in the ill-omened year 800.
* The National Church demands immediate cessation of the publishing and dissemination of the Bible.
* The National Church will clear away from its altars all Crucifixes, Bibles and pictures of Saints.
* On the altars there must be nothing but Mein Kampf and to the left of the altar a sword.[51]

Religion in Nazi Germany

You'll have to do better than citing Luther's anti-Semitic rants and essays (all well known) into ergo, therefore Nazi Germany was Lutheran.

re: #432 SpaceJesus

I'm actually sure your book is good, the reviews seem to suggest its something I'd enjoy reading when my semester's over. I'm still confused that you've never heard of the Reichskirche.

When did I say that?

The Protestant Reich Church (Reichskirche) was formed by Adolf Hitler in 1933 by merging 28 regional churches into one Church. The founding of the Church was the result of work by the German Christians, who had gained a large majority at the 1933 church elections.[1] The merger was based on Nazi ideas of creating a "positive Christianity", namely purifying Christianity of any Jewish elements, including even the Old Testament. The idea had existed within a small minority of Christian groups since the time of Marcion of Sinope, but the Protestant Reich Church embraced it for racial rather than theological reasons. Ludwig Müller was elected "Reich Bishop".[2]

Although the Church was initially supported by the regime, the Nazis eventually lost interest in the experiment after it failed to supplant or absorb traditional Christian churches. After 1937, relations between the Reich Church and the Nazi government began to sour.

The Reichskirche was a failed experiment. The Lutheran Church as well as the Catholic Church had nothing to do with it. Don't let the term "German Christians" confuse you into thinking that they were somehow official. They were a far right-wing, nationalist, fascist and racist organization closely allied with the Nazis.

Have you ever heard of die Bekennende Kirche?

The book is horribly expensive - but that's what libraries are for.

Germany in the modern era has had no "official" church. Several different flavors of Christianity, as well as Judaism, Islam and Buddhism, are officially recognized, which is an entirely different thing. $cientology, for instance, is not recognized.

Read up on the Confessing Church and get back to me, mkay?

437 JHW  Thu, Feb 5, 2009 3:55:34pm

re: #434 SpaceJesus

horseshit. The arguing you're making right now has nothing to do with Muslims, it's making assertions about Nazi Germany that you haven't backed up, along with a bit of unwarranted bragging about your education. Citing links that some of us have made connecting radical elements within Islam having connections to Nazi thought is not the same as accusing Muslims as a whole of having those connections. I, for one, have never made a post here painting all Muslims with a broad brush or accused them all of any monolithic thought. Extremists is the word you use in your post, and a smart guy like you should be able to recognize when people are being critical of the extremists rather than Muslims as a whole.

438 godfrey  Thu, Feb 5, 2009 4:00:21pm

439 Cato the Elder  Thu, Feb 5, 2009 4:01:12pm

More on the "German Christians" (from Wiki, as was the above information about the Reichskirche):

It formed in May 1932 within the German Evangelical Church (DEK)[1] and was led by Ludwig Müller. In the church elections of November 1932, German Christians won a third of the seats in Prussia and by the mid 1930s they had some 600,000 members. This degree of influence enabled them to call, in April 1933, for a Nazi-controlled "Reich Church" to replace the federal structures of the Evangelical Church. This duly happened and the majority candidate for Reich Bishop, Fritz von Bodelschwingh was quickly replaced by Müller. By June 1933 the German Christians had gained leadership of some Landeskirchen within the DEK and, supported by Nazi propaganda, they were clear winners of the church elections of July 1933.[2] With their Gleichschaltungspolitik and their attempts to incorporate the Aryan paragraph into the churches' constitution so as to exclude Jewish Christians, the German Christians entered into a Kirchenkampf with other evangelical Christians. There opponents founded the Confessing Church in 1934, which condemned the German Christians as heretics and cut them off from full communion. The Nazis found the group useful during their initial consolidation of power, but removed most of its leaders from their posts shortly afterwards; Reichsbishop Müller continued until 1945.

re: #447 ploome hineni

classic musim argument, "find IT for me".....they always think you will never find it

AND.....now he begins with the next excuse, bad translation is next

Oh I have a better excuse!

Joseph Schacht in "Origins of Muhammadan Jurisprudence" singled out Ibn 'Umar isnads as the most subject to forgery. Plus, Sha'bi (d. ~ 100 AH) is quoted, even in Muslim, as complaining "did you hear al-Hasan delivering hadith from the Prophet through Ibn 'Umar? I sat with Ibn 'Umar for a year and a half and I did not hear him recite from the Prophet except for one story".

(Ironically the story, the one trustworthy hadith from Ibn 'Umar, was about whether it was haram to eat the meat of a lizard. "It's fine but it's not my diet", said the Rasulullah.)

That Abu Hurayra is also referenced, similarly, smells bad to me. I've seen a LOT of crap attributed to him.
