Our wolf problem is out of control here in Northern WI. We had the worst deer harvest numbers in many years. The problem with wolves is that they have predator other than man. If they are not kept in check, they kill and eat everything.

Eh, not a loaded question at all, is it? I'm not anti-gun, although I was never as into shooting as my dad would like. I do adore me some cute animals, though, and hug them frequently.

Mainly, I was just amused at the idea that wolves being predators was some sort of reason to hunt them. I assume they're hunted, as referenced above, for sport and to keep the animal populations balanced.

Actually, wolves are not that savage, although very few modern animals, and I believe no mammal, out of Africa, could fight off a pack. Dogs are more savage, as are foxes and coyotes. But when a wolf pack in the wild gets down to business, beware. Fortunately, wolves hate people unless they are raised from puppies. Cro-magnon saw to that. Found them tasty.

A guy here in Las Vegas was just arrested for an interesting scam.

He would go to people's houses with a box full of light bulbs, and he would offer to take out all your old light bulbs, and put in new light bulbs, all for only $10! This sounded like a great deal to most people, especially as they'd spend more than $10 just buying the bulbs, never mind the time to put them in.

Why was this a scam?

The guy bought 25 new light bulbs, and approached the 1st house. This first lucky guy actually got a good deal, because he was actually getting a house full of new light bulbs for $10 (no charges are pressed concerning this first person).

The con artist then took the bulbs he removed from the first house, went to another house, and gave the same offer.

By the time this guy has finished 10 houses, he's got $100 in his pocket, and still has the same number of light bulbs he started with!

The charges mostly involve fraud, as this guy claimed he was installing brand new bulbs, which he wasn't.

Police say electrical wires sparked fumes on Southwest flight

Hazmat crews dealt with an incident on a Southwest Airlines flight at McCarran International Thursday night after passengers complained about eye irritation.

Southwest Flight 756 took off from Kansas City, Missouri around 4:30pm CDT and landed at McCarran International at 5:18pm.

The plane was scheduled to come to Las Vegas with continuing service to Sacramento.

Oxygen masks were down as the plane with 116 people landed.

Initially, the FAA thought a pepper spray can had exploded.

Now, McCarran officials say Metro believes an electrical issue may be the reason behind the eye irritation.

Six people were takent to Desert Springs Hospital and all are in stable condition.

Those who were heading to Sacramento have boarded other flights to Sacramento.

You're arguing with someone, but it isn't me. Tofu, in my neighborhood, isn't 'alternative', it's just good food, often served with meat. You don't want any, more for me. I didn't say wolves were cuddly. I said they were beautiful. There is a distinct difference. I have a co-worker who is working toward a doctorate studying wolf communication. I find her work fascinating. I've seen an animal kill prey. I don't want to end up as the prey, but predators do predate.

Panda Guy sounds like a fool. Last year, here in San Francisco, we had a kid killed by a zoo tiger. Some people just don't get reality real well, because after that, we had a guy jump in the rhino pen. You have to be fairly crazy to tempt a rhino to clean your clock. Back when they still had Star Trek: The Experience here in Las Vegas, there was a room that you entered with 3 doors, and the doors were going to open to allow you to get on the ride.

While the safety instructions were being given via video, everything would go haywire, and all the lights would go out. When they came back up, you were in a completely different room - the transporter room of the Enterprise D!

The effect was very well done.

An elderly man in North Carolina had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back, fixed up really nice, along with some picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees. The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was built.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.

As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. When he came closer, he realized it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end to shield themselves.

A couple was invited to a swanky Halloween party by a family friend, in which all attendees were required to wear a mask. The wife got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone, and to make sure to say hello to her family. He, being a devoted husband, protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time to be spoiled by not going. She let him go as far as he wished, naturally, since he was her husband.

A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night and have dinner with her parents. Since this is such a big event, the girl announces to her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and make love for the first time.

Well, the boy is ecstatic, but he has never had sex before, so he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some condoms. The pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about condoms and sex.

At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many condoms he'd like to buy, a 3-pack, 10-pack, or family pack. The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be rather busy, it being his first time and all.

That night, the boy shows up at the girl's parents house and meets his girlfriend at the door. "Oh, I'm so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in!"

The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl's parents are seated. The boy quickly offers to say grace and bows his head.

A minute passes, and the boy is still deep in prayer, with his head down.

10 minutes pass, and still no movement from the boy.

Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to the boyfriend, "I had no idea you were this religious."

The boy turns, and whispers back, "I had no idea your father was a pharmacist."

An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again. The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father [never having seen an elevator] responded "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up. They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction.

The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, "Go get your mother."

The Odin cross became the Swaztika. It also became the Nestorian cross. Odin Cross is a normal Cross with a circle. As it evolved it lost the full circle and just indicated it as in the Nestorian cross. The form of hte Odin Cross which became the Swastika was actually 2 rune for I believe it was Knowledge crossed. It could be done both in the way of hte Nazi flag and also as a square with 2 tails. This is an ornamental later Derivation of the Odin Cross commonly called the Celtic cross.

I'm in California... not OK, and brought up OK only because it was one of those state GOP platforms that had particularly strong influence in it by the ID folk.

I know enough about the California GOP (and where they stand on the issues of concern to me) ... and as I stated last night have often (but not always) voted for their candidates.

This is a big country, and still growing, and because of that I for one am quite comfortable with any political party having a diverse set of beliefs, the so-called "big tent" approach to political consensus. However, that approach opens the door to problems similar to what Charles has w.r.t. ID/creationism being injected into the core GOP set of beliefs.

What does a group of people (in this case a political party) do when two parts of it are diametrically opposed on philosophical grounds? Don't know how the Democrats manage to keep a non-trivial number of anti-abortion members in an otherwise pro-abortion party... but they do it somehow.

I'm just not sure how a party can advocate smaller government and the rule of law on one hand, then on the other hand advocate creationism in the public schools. It reeks of hypocrisy to me. There are problems with terms "conservative" and "liberal" as self-described by many people I read or hear. Nevertheless, agree with you that those who are pushing the ID agenda are not being fully pressed ( by others in the "conservative" or Republican movement/party ) on what the ultimate outcome of the agenda entails.
