Yemen Releases 170 Al Qaeda Terrorists After They Sign ‘Pledges’

The Islamic extremists who run the country of Yemen have released 170 al-Qaida suspects; but don’t worry, they signed disclaimers that they’re not going to be terrorists any more.

SAN’A, Yemen (AP) — Yemen released 170 men it had arrested on suspicion of having ties to al-Qaida, security officials said Sunday, two weeks after the terror group announced that Yemen had become the base of its activities for the whole Arabian peninsula.

The announcement also comes as government forces say they are poised to sweep through the northern city of Marib to combat an entrenched al-Qaida presence that includes both Yemenis and Saudis.

The officials who announced the release spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to speak to the press.

The men were freed Friday and Saturday after signing pledges not to engage in terrorism — a strategy the Yemeni government has often used with those suspected of fighting in militant causes abroad.

It’s not a coincidence that this brazen release of nearly 200 terrorists comes less than a month after Barack Obama took office.

Yeah, we know how that goes: "I promise not to shed innocent blood...", blah, blah, blah...

However,...

On the other hand, the Prophet (peace be on him) also knew that the unbelievers were guilty of rejecting the true signs of God and of declaring a true Prophet of God to be an impostor. In view of that monstrous guilt, it was quite apparent to the Prophet (peace be on him) that they would not prosper.

Muslim = innocent.
Unbeliever = guilty.

Conservatives, by and large, are enraged. Some are vocal, most are not. What's the point, when the administration and the MSM have their collective heads in the sand.

It's the half-vast majority in the middle that's asleep. They were stirred up for a short while after 9-11-2001, but then the MSM lulled them back to sleep. It WILL take another significant terrorist attack to re-awaken them, but at some point they'll "get it", and become a force to be reckoned with.

Yemen is the wonderful country that's the ancestral homeland of Bin Laden. Yemen is also the wonderful country where half of the population is illiterate, and terrorism and extremism thrives. In Gitmo, about 100 out of the 250 terrorists still being held are from the wonderful country called Yemen.

If any single one of those terrorists revert to terrorism, and many of them will, then Yemen should be held responsible for any act of terrorism committed by these terrorists which they have just freed, and Yemen should also face the consequences of their terrorism support.

I'd be curious to see the actual wording of these "pledges" (not that I believe their sincerity or anything).

I'd be willing to bet that they actually pledged not to engage in terrorism in Yemen, not that they pledged not to enage in terrorism.

There's a good reason that so much Saudi money is used to fund the worldwide jihad movement. It's because they basically pay these assholes to go kill other people and leave them alone.

The same concept is probably in play here.

That, of course, is the other big question about the wording of these "pledges."

Apologists for Islam always like to point out, for example, the fact that the Koran forbids killing "innocents," and use that as a basis for the "these aren't true Muslims" meme.

What they either don't understand (or are simply ignoring) is the fact that the Islamic view of "innocents" doesn't include infidels.

What is Barack Obama doing to make this country more secure? Can anyone name anything?

I'm looking for anything at all.

Yes, of course I can name a bunch of things, as I'm confident that Obama has America's protection on the top o f his to-do list. First he had his first tv interview with Al Arabyia to sternly tell them we will never back down from the War on Terror. Obama then tells Iran that the U.S. is resolute on their nuke program, that he's got his finger on that little red button if they continue developing it. Both Obama and Hillary demanded they unclench their fists - or else. Obama refuses to let any of the Gitmo terrorists free, or he'll hunt them down one by one.

Isn't that the way it happened? I feel so much safer now.

I know, I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that the courts have written due process rights for detainees - terrorists who were captured on foreign soil - into Constitutional rights in a way that a POW soldier would never be able to obtain under the Geneva Conventions, but here we are.

He's now being held without trial, which is the same position that these idiot leftists were busy complaining about before Bush set upon creating the military commissions act and detainee treatment act to comply with various court rulings to deal with the status of detainees. Now the leftists don't think that these courts and systems are appropriate, and have no clue what to do.

re: #106 x-wing

Here's a question. What is the Muslim definition of terrorist?

Very pertinent question. When they blew up the trains in England, it became even more abundantly clear what they meant by 'innocents'. Infidels are never innocent; terrorists are always innocent. Therefore, infidels are the cause of the innocent Muslims who act in self-defense when they blow the rest of us to smithereens. Conclusion? Infidels are terrorists. The pledge they signed, in effect, only commits them further to their cause by prohibiting them from becoming infidels.

Obama and friends don't have a clue. At least, I hope he doesn't, because that allows for some small hope that he'll get a clue.

Coosh-ball throwing with Hamas

Duck-Duck-Goose with Chavez

Speaking of Chavez, there was a massive demonstration in Caracas yesterday over Hugo's plan to amend the Constitution, so that he can run forever. Pro Chavez goons attacked the demonstrators.

Israel is rumored to be doing something as bad and in many ways worse.

A huge list of terrorists released in exchange for Shalit.

Included among those to be released is said to be Marwan Barghouti- a convicted terrorist murderer (who by the way, killed a priest thinking him a Jew) who will in the very near future - I guarantee- take over from Abbas the title of "Good Terrorist".

If this occurs we may very well see the end of Israel in our lifetime.

Let's see if we can find something in the "Pocket Obama" (c) 2008 that will explain this for us...

(leafing through the little blue book...)

"If you start seeing more and more failed states, more and more displaced persons, more and more refugees, all of that is a breeding ground for terrorist activity"

Hmmm, maybe we should send Obama a copy of this book. Anyone want to chip in?

Walter, are they still for sale on Amazon? And have they got in a new shipment yet. They have been out of stock for so long, I just don't know how I will survive without my little blue book?

Seems to be a lot of that going on. Release of A.Q. Kahn, Kyrgyzstan closing their base, North Korean saber rattling, Iranian mocking of Obama/US attempts at talks, the list goes on.

Obama needs to blow some things up...put a little crazy into his foreign policy. I'd like to suggest the Iranian nuclear program.

I'd vote for coordinated big booms in Pakistan and North Korea.

Meanwhile, in Israel, both Kadima and Likud are scared that Avidgor Lieberman's party could pull abreast of them in the elections after those on Tuesday. He's already becoming a major power. And he wants to establish an anti-democratic "loyalty test" for citizenship. Presumably this would extend beyond "disloyal Arabs" to include opposition groups. Netanyahu thinks this is legitimate.

Lieberman has called for the expulsion of Israeli Arab citizens and the execution of Arab Members of Knesset. The Israeli attorney general declines to indict him for incitement.

Who's Lieberman flipping the bird at?

I think Obama may be a distant cousin to Ahmadinejad (or similar nutjob) and is doing his part to speed up the return of the Mahdi. Anyone with half a brain (this would exclude most of Congress unfortunately) should be screaming bloody murder about the outrageously dangerous decisions Obama has made in the last few weeks.

His lack of leadership in speaking out about news such as this embolden terrorists and make it extremely likely they will strike again.

Michelle Obama has taken on military families as one of her special areas of focus. I wonder what the family members of the USS COLE have said to her about her husband's reckless decisions.

The "48 hour rule" usually applies to stories that sound unlikely to be true. There's absolutely nothing unlikely about this story. The Yemenis (and the Saudis) have a history of doing stuff like this.

As for "seeing the actual signed pledges," unless you a) read Arabic, and b) understand the Islamic context in which they're undoubtedly written, that wouldn't do you much good.

Yeah, I know. I forgot to add the "/".

It’s not just the family members of those who died on the USS COLE it’s the whole military that is getting kicked in the teeth.

I agree it will embolden terrorists and will cause more horrible deaths. I would say get the names and pictures of those 170 terrorists and keep track of their bloody terrorists acts. Someone has to take responsibility for this grotesque miscarriage of justice. I doubt Obama will. But he should.

244 2MurthasRight  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 7:55:50pm

C'mon folks, don't you recall that the President of Yemen recently announced the Obama administration has assured him that 96 of his countrymen would be home from their extended Cuban vacations within 3 to 6 months? Yemen was just making room in their halfway-houses-back-to-the-jihad prisons for the surge.
