Obama’s Ratings Dropping

Politics • Views: 4,042

According to Rasmussen Reports, Barack Obama’s approval ratings are dropping fast: Daily Presidential Approval Index.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Approval Index for Sunday shows that 36% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing as President. Twenty-five percent (25%) Strongly Disapprove to give Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of 11.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update).

One week ago today, 44% Strongly Approved and 23% Strongly Disapproved to give Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of 21.

In the first set of interviews conducted after inauguration day, 45% Strongly Approved of his performance while 16% Strongly Disapproved for a Presidential Approval Index rating of 29 (see trends).

Overall, 59% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance so far while 39% disapprove. Today’s results mark the first time that Obama’s overall rating has fallen below 60% as either President-elect or President.

I disapprove of him twice as much as I did before. How is that accounted for in this index?

9 HelloDare  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 2:41:03pm

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

10 RightKlik  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 2:41:04pm

Obama’s ratings will continue to drop. It won’t be surprising to see his approval rating drop well below 50%. These are tough times in America, and no spineless political amateur can reasonably expect to lead this country back to peace an prosperity.

Honeymoon is over as far as I’m concerned, now the O’s acting, and it’s time to start paying attention to his moves.

25 A Kiwi Infidel  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 2:44:36pm

I believe there is a direct correlation between the drop in O’s ratings and the increase in the number of terrorists (who hide behind various other descriptions ie mujahadeen, jihad warriors etc etc) who are being released globally, with wet bus tickets stuck to their faces.

26 kay1212  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 2:44:38pm

I wonder what the approval ratings would be if the mainstream press reported that Al Qaeda individuals are being released in Yemen and elsewhere, that charges were dropped [maybe to be reinstated] against the Cole mastermind, that Acorn gets millions of their tax dollars, etc etc.

27 Timbre  Sun, Feb 8, 2009 2:44:42pm

I’m sorry, this index thing is new to me. All I’ve been reading for the past two years is the ‘approval’ rating for Bush especially when it started falling below the upper fifties. I didn’t know there was some kind of formula to create a curve/index.

the turtle joke and obama.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year-old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President. The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Obama is a “post turtle.” Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a “post turtle” was. The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a “post turtle”. The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.”

Obama and a lot of liberals have made statements suggesting that if America just changed her ways, they wouldn’t hate us. Blah blah blah.

My son has been living and working in Dubai for 6 months now and has traveled to Saudi Arabia, Oman and Egypt.

Here’s the truth: They love Americans. He constantly hears about how amazed they are in that area about the entrepreneurial spirit of Americans.

So I call BS on changing our firm stance on terrorism. The typical individual my son has encountered has great respect for our country and our people. They respect strength and our resilience in times of diversity.

Setting stone cold terrorists free because Obama isn’t going to do anything about it is not going to help our stature in the world. On the contrary, it makes us look like schmucks and it doesn’t help the average citizen of any of those countries either. Countries like Yemen and governments like Hamas may love Obama but Obama is not going to increase the “image” of US citizens.

OT again, sorry, but this could a “heads up” warning.

I dragged this out of a 2003 WND report, sorry, but the comments within is noteworthy;

In August, Australian authorities launched an investigation into reports al-Qaida planned to spark brushfires in a new wave of devastating terror attacks.

A June 25 FBI memo to United States law enforcement agencies revealed a senior al-Qaida detainee claimed to have developed a plan to start midsummer forest fires in the U.S.

The terrorist hoped to mimic the destruction that devastated Canberra last summer, killing four people and destroying more than 500 homes, as well as in other parts of Australia.

and;

“Australian security authorities are aware of reports that al-Qaida has considered starting brushfires in the U.S. as a form of terrorist attack,” said a spokeswoman Australian Attorney General Daryl Williams. “Arson attacks are just one of a wide range of scenarios which have been considered as part of our investigations into al-Qaida’s ability to conduct attacks in Australia.”

In the latest news from Aus, there is evidence to suggest that some of these fires are being deliberately lit and, even, re-lit after fire authorities have put them out.

Victoria Police Deputy Chief Commissioner Kieran Walshe said it was believed some fires in his state had been deliberately lit, but would not say which ones.

“We have our suspicions in some instances but really we do need to get to the position where we can get our investigators and our forensic scientists into the fire scenes to do a full, thorough investigation, see what evidence can be uncovered which will confirm or deny for us how these fires have originated,” he told the Seven Network.

One of Mr Walshe’s colleagues earlier on Sunday said arsonists could be charged with murder or manslaughter depending on available evidence.

“These people are terrorists within our nation, they are the enemy within and we have to be increasingly vigilant about them when you consider that 20 percent of the fires in South Australia so far this summer have been deliberately lit,” Mr Rann told reporters in Adelaide.

We will see.

Dear LGFers.
You all make my day! I always look forward to your repartee.

Now, however, it’s time to be serious for a few minutes:
That his approval rating are (free)falling isn’t enough. He’s a menace to everything that makes this country great…a menace to the very foundation of this nation. He must be blocked every time he tries to move our country to the left. Please, keep calling and emailing your representatives and senators. Keep telling them to vote against his detrimental policies. Keep reminding those in government that they work for US - we elected them and we can elect someone else when their term ends. We can also stop giving them re-election campaign funds if they do not effectively protect us and our Constitution.

Expose him as the socialist-intent-on-destroying-our-liberty that he is. Tell everyone. Send emails to friends & relatives, write letters to the editors of your local papers and magazines.

It’ll take a few minutes out of our daily schedules, but we are in the midst of a serious crisis/cultural war and win we must.

I apologize if this dampened the mood on this thread.

OK….Time to resume the levity:-)

Not to interrupt the glee-fest, but allow me to point out that, lousy numbers or no, not only is Obama still President for the next four years (in which there is plenty of time for the mercurial public to reverse this current downward trend), but he still has at least two years of a two-house majority-Democrat Congress.

Which means that he and the Congress can do basically whatever they damn please no matter what the public thinks. And, worse than that, there is no visible sign that the Republicans are anywhere yet near to organizing themselves and forming a coherent alternative to present to the electorate in two years.

Here’s some CHANGE for Israel…

‘Obama will not focus on ME democracy’

The Obama administration is unlikely to continue the press for democracy and freedom in the Middle East that was a mainstay of the Bush administration’s policy in the region, a former senior US administration official said on Sunday.

“There is a danger that under the general guise of not wanting to be like the previous administration, there is going to be significantly less emphasis on a freedom agenda and the promotion of democracy,” Elliott Abrams, who served as president George W. Bush’s deputy national security adviser for global democracy strategy, said in a conversation at Jerusalem’s Shalem Center.

The past 2 weeks seems like a bad dream. Say a prayer for Israel….they are likely on their own.

Show me.

The United States security coordinator for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, retired general James Jones, is preparing an extremely critical report of Israel’s policies in the territories and its attitude toward the Palestinian Authority’s security services.

[Link: zionism-israel.com…]

Part of the problem may be the purpose of his assignment in the Middle East. He was, by assignment, almost in the position of having to advocate lead for the Palestinian side in order to rebuild it’s shattered and corrupt security forces. But I think he might still have failed to understand the depth of that corruption and thus Israel’s deep suspicions of that force.

100%. Obama’s rating is tanking far quicker than that of any President that I am aware of, but he’ll still get his four years pretty much no matter what. He’s not going to resign, and there is no way, no matter what he does, that a Democrat Congress will impeach him.

The question is how to minimize the damage, and I can’t think of much that we can do to effect even that. Any member of Congress that votes in favor of this bill should be tried for treason.

Not going to happen, i don’t care what he does. He could rape a sheep on the White House lawn in front of the camera crews from the alphabet networks, the cable networks, and Al Jizz, and the congress would shrug.

Is bestiality and public indecency actually an impeachable offense, legally speaking?

Nah, he’d have to something really bad… like lie to Congress about the whole thing… then maybe he’d get - what? No? Clinton did already? Got away with it to… hmmm… never mind…

I can only speak for myself. I just thought his view, at least at that time, was a bit myopic. But as I said I think he was kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Handing Israel’s security over to NATO is anti-Israel to me;
Believing that ““‘Nothing is more important” to regional security in the Middle East than resolving the Israeli Palestinian conflict, rather than confronting Islamic extremism is anti-Israel to me and a fundamental mis-understanding of the forces at work in the Middle East:

Believing that the PA Security forces will protect Israeli civilians is also a fundamental mis-understanding of the Palestinians;
Trying to pressure Israel by releasing a report highly critical of Israel is anti-Israel to me:

Obama’s end game for self-ejection, now that he and his staff are self-admitedly tired of office:

1. Get Biden to retire
2. Appoint Hillary as Veep
3. Appoint Bill as Sec. State
4. Resign and live comortably on book royalties, Oprah appearances and inauguration trinket revenue…..
5. Get Michelle Mrs. Blogovich’s old cushy job.
6. Spend rest of days hangin’ with strippers and MSM news chicks…

317 looking closely  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 5:42:41am

Of course his ratings are falling like a rock. His sky-high ratings were based ENTIRELY on hype and marketing. Obama’s actual record is of ZERO significant legislative accomplishments, shirking political responsibility (eg voting “present” 100+ times), and negligible executive experience.

Now he’s actually had to DO SOMETHING and the ratings have encountered reality.

318 looking closely  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 6:25:51am

re: #237 Iron Fist

First of all, I don’t want Obama impeached. This “impeachment” talk is mostly a persistent leftist fantasy, and I think wishing for it is the sort of thing expected of partisan leftist sites.

If it happened, not only would any impeachment (by itself) be bad for the country, but we could then end up stuck with Joe Biden as POTUS, and he’d likely be worse than Obama.

What I want instead is for Obama to actually create good policy. Maybe actually being responsible for things will cause him to wise up a little bit with time, especially with respect to foreign policy (though I realize given his record, that’s unlikely to happen).

As to the real likelihood of Obama being impeached, its small, but still greater than zero. Realistically, assuming he doesn’t do anything totally crazy the strong Dem majority insulates Obama from impeachment during his first two years

But by the second half of his term, that may no longer be true. The Senate Dem majority will probably be weaker, and President “hope and change” will be sitting on the effects of his actual policy for the previous two years, not just wishful thinking (eg “hope and change”). Obama’s political capital will undoubtedly be diminished by then.

Further, given his track record in only the first two weeks, I’d fully expect that two years into his term, his administration will likely be tarnished by a series of minor (or major) scandals, possibly including yet-to-be determined fallout from Blagojevich.

So after all that, impeachment could be *possible*, if not likely or desirable.

319 Tricky Dick  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 7:35:37am

Had the mainstream media properly vetted this fraud he would’ve never made it to the democratic pesidential debates much been elected. He’s going to take this country and the world right down the toilet and every one of you naive, liberal idiots who voted for him are going down with him. GJ sheeple!

320 Land Shark  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 7:41:53am

It’s hardly surprising to me that Obama’s ratings are dropping. They were artificially high anyway, what with the hype and myth surrounding him. The new Scamalot, er, I mean Camelot and all that silly twaddle. Now that people are starting to get a hint of the level of incompetence, inexperience and flat out lack of qualifications Obama has to be an elected official at any level, as well as his true far left ideas and views, it’s a natural event.

re: #229 derbigdog

Hee, hee, I thought he jumped the shark long before the election. Of course, back then the Obamedia was in full “let’s cover up for this guy and get him elected” mode. Now that they have to report on President Obama instead of candidate HopeN’Change maybe they will finally, you know, actually do their job. I’m not holding my breath, though.

321 P-DEX  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 8:37:58am

Well, it’s a good thing numbers don’t mean much to Liberals. According to them, the 52% Obama win in the election is a blowout.

(and I’m glad to finally be among the land of lizards. thank you for having me.)

322 ecp73  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 9:14:04am

Why present a poll result that disqualifies people for not having “strong” views regarding Obama. I’m a Republican, but honestly think we’re grasping at straws here. And I’m not a troll…

323 Pupdawg  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 9:15:39am

Like Simon says each week’s song selection is so vital…look for Obi One’s numbers to continue to slide indicative of the lousy tunes he’s crooning and yet, the MSM already has him in the Idol winner’s circle.

The stimulus bill will pass despite the quickly growing opposition from the peeps…politicians greatest propensity and desire is to spend money they do not have and this bill is like a triple-meat whopper with extra cheese plated for a binge eater to be expelled in disgust post consumption!

324 Canoe Train  Mon, Feb 9, 2009 11:39:43am

Well, what did they expect ? when a VP selection receives far greater vetting due to her “common-ness” while an empty suit with no executive accomplishments to his name gets almost none, should they expect any different ? Obama now owns the challenges, they are happening on his watch, and he does not have th experience to deal with it. We are So. very. screwed.
