I don't feel stimulated. I've got this cold hollow in my tummy.

Worse: I'm finishing the capital loss schedule from last year, and I know it's going to be worse this year.

It hasn't done any good to write the congresscritters, has it?

So the bill will pass the Senate. It will then go into Committee so that negotiations can occur between the House and Senate to reach a compromise.

Is there then another vote on the compromise bill?

I hope there are some good, solid Conservative negotiators who will work for us...

Democratic Congressman have proposed a new public transportation system for themselves. Its called PORK AND RIDE.

Hugo Chavez heard about it and told the press he personally would PORK it in a way no US president could.

CAIR immediately condemned it saying anything with PORK is anti-Islamic.

Amendinajad said Iran does not have PORK but would develop PORK for domestic uses only.

Obama said he wants to eliminate PORK, because chicken is healthier.

From that AP link:
'OBAMA: "They'll be jobs building the wind turbines and solar panels and fuel-efficient cars that will lower our dependence on foreign oil and modernizing our costly health care system that will save us billions of dollars and countless lives."

THE FACTS: The economic stimulus bill would allocate about $20 billion to help hospitals and doctors transition from paper charts to electronic health records for their patients. Research has shown that in some instances, electronic record keeping can eliminate inappropriate services and improve care, but it's not a sure thing by any means. "By itself, the adoption of more health IT is generally not sufficient to produce significant cost savings," the Congressional Budget Office reported last year.'

Heh.
For a much smaller population, and an already centralised State Health service, the costs here in the UK are to date £13 billion.
They've been working on it for years, ever since NuLab came to power - its not working, its a shambles, and it will cost even more.
And the hugely important point of security of these eminently private data has not been proeprly addressed either.

Good luck with that, PB0 - dunno if IT fimrs will be so keen to waste time and resources on a bottomless pit, after their experiences in the UK.

I don't think the tide has turned yet (cliche alert!), but a lot of people are concerned, and opposition to this bill could really unite even the most wobbly Republicans. And moderates.

We have to keep delaying it until a more reasonable alternative can be passed--Geithner is going to talk about his jillions he's adding with his bailout today.

And, the stimulus contains provisions to monitor our medical records via electronic records. This is why he talked about this in the campaign.

We simply can't afford these boondoggles and attacks on our privacy. Period.

More and more what we as citizens think about our government matters less and less. A stimulus bill between 800 billion and a trillion dollars will pass despite what the large majority of the citizenry think about it.

Our politicians on both sides of the aisle are fiscally insane, intoxicated with the allure of more government, more spending, more control over their constituents as well as the renewed knowledge that they can control private businesses as well. In essence they posses the plastic with no charge limits in sight.

I will predict that President Obama will blame Bush for all of America's ills leading up to and including the last day of his reign. We are becoming European Unionized at breakneck speed. America will be forcefully molded into one welfare mentality of Socialism sooner rather than later. The Stimulus Bill that ultimately passes kicks this can so far down the road we'll need a GPS unit to locate it for the next boot.

Health Care IT is such a damned black hole it isn't funny. Our state system here in CA runs on a system programmed in Fortran and Cobol dating from the 1950's. It just last year transitioned from tape to hard drive. It uses an error prone text based flat file format. I've done walk-throughs in CA state hospitals as part of my job, and we cannot get Hospital staff to figure out billing codes without hand holding.

The Jabba the Hutt Act is only for the purposes of "stopping the economic crisis." After they've done that, there's any amount of additional mischief they can commit.

Hamas tortured, killed Palestinians, rights group charges

Amnesty International has accused Hamas militants in Gaza of kidnapping, killing and torturing fellow Palestinians they accuse of spying for Israel, the organization announced Tuesday.

According to Amnesty International, at least 24 Palestinian men -- most of them civilians -- were shot and killed by Hamas gunmen during the recent Israeli offensive aimed at crippling the Hamas leadership in Gaza.

"Scores of others have been shot in the legs, kneecapped or inflicted with other injuries intended to cause permanent disability," the human rights organization said in a news release.

The only good thing I can possibly think of that will come out of all this is when everything goes swirling down the toilet - like any sane person knows it will - it will have demonstrated YET AGAIN that socialism NEVER works. And we will get another chance at real capitalism, Reagan-style. Until people start whining about how unfair it is that they have to actually work in a capitalist system rather than sit on their lazy bums and collect government handouts. And so the cycle begins again...

If you know somebody in Maine, get on the phone with them and tell them to call Collins's and Snowe's offices. They will answer calls that are clearly from constituents. Tell them to be polite but firm, and give them a script so that they get the word across succinctly: "I am from Maine. I have lived there ____ years. I am opposed to this bill and I have many friends and neighbors who are opposed to it too. You will receive my support for changing your vote -- and my opposition for NOT changing it."

They voted for cloture yesterday and it was not filibustered... Therefore the Senate Bill will be voted on after the set period of debate today.

The Republicans are spineless....they will offer little resistance. Just enough to say, "See, we tried to block it". The Dems don't even have to resort to the "nuclear option", as they have all the Democrats marching in lock step and the necessary number of RINO's tagging along for the ride.

We will have to let this run it's course. If it succeeds, they get all the glory. If it fails, they can have all the blame...this is their plan....

Limbaugh says that on September 16, 2008, there was an electronic "run" on mutual funds, $550 billion within an hour. The Federal Reserve then ordered a shut-down of the money funds, and Paulson and Berneke went to the White House, telling the President $5.5 trillion dollars would been drawn out, destroying the U.S. economy and the world economy. No one knows who or what caused the run. Could have been orchestrated by Soros, or by foreign governments with an interest in creating a "September surprise", electing Obama.

Geert Wilders denied entry into Great Britain

"Great Britain sacrificing freedom of speech"

Geert Wilders has been denied entry into Great Britain. The leader of the PVV had been invited by a member of the British House of Lords to show Fitna in Parliament on Thrursday. However, today he received a letter from the British embassy in which he is denied entry into the UK.

According to Wilders "Great Britain is sacrificing her freedom of speech".
"This is the sort of thing you expect in Saoudi-Arabia, not in Great Britain. I think this cowardly attitude of the British government is really awful. I have simply been invited by a member of the British Parliament."

In the meantime Fitna has been shown in a number of countries, including Israel. Next week the film will be shown in the Italian Parliament and in a couple of weeks in the United States. Wilders is not sure whether he will resign himself to this state of affairs.

"I seriously consider putting the matter to the test by simply getting on a plane. Then I'll find out what happens. But I'll keep my options open because I first want to find out what the procedures are."

Democrats Block Amendment Requiring Citizenship Verification for Stimulus Cash

Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE), Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Harry Reid (D-Nev) block amendment requiring require proof of citizenship for stimulus recipients.

Yesterday, Max Baucus blocked the legislation from making it to the floor.
Numbers USA reported:

On Feb. 9, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) attempted to offer his E-Verify amendment (SA 239) to the economic stimulus package, but Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) prevented him from doing so. SA 239 would have required all businesses and localities that receive stimulus money to use the E-Verify employment verification system. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), who had earlier supported Sen. Sessions' efforts to mandate E-Verify for stimulus recipients, did not support Sen. Sessions' attempt to force the Senate to vote on SA 239. In fact, Sen. Nelson moved to end all debate on the economic stimulus package.

More... Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blocked the amendment by Senator Jeff Sessions and Senator Ben Nelson (before Nelson withdrew support) that would require proof of citizenship for stimulus recipients.
Liveleak and LGF reported:

GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions and Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson attempted several times to bring their bipartisan amendment to the floor last week. SA 239 would require local governments and businesses that receive porkulus money to use the federal E-Verify citizenship check system.

On the House side, a long term extension of the E-Verify program passed there 407-2 (Conservative Oasis).

But Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refused to allow it to come to the floor. Now, we’re headed for cloture.

“While it is difficult to believe that Senate leaders might insist that illegal aliens have the same chance at new stimulus jobs as unemployed Americans, this scenario may now be at hand,” says Roy Beck of Numbers USA. “SA 239 is now unlikely to receive a floor vote.”

The provision is not included in the Sellout Substitute Amendment forged by the Turncoat Caucus and the Democrats.

re: #113 turn

May I be so bold as to ask what ails you?

if i said it was a combination of genetic problems in my kidneys, Lupus, AND the effects of surviving Viral Meningitis and encephalitis when i was 15, which pretty much fried my nervous system, and adversely affects the way my heart functions (my heart rate rests at 120 even when i sleep) I have Hypertension, a damaged immune system, and epilepsy from the encephalitis, I would be giving you the short list. Oh and because the encephalitis messed with my neural functions i am brilliant but weird. In sum, I am a mess. Fortunately the package is an attractive lean woman with long brown hair. Because of the nerve damage i am not graceful, but I move effectively now after about 5 years intensive therapy, then almost 2 decades of going back off and on for tune ups.

BTW i hate talking about this shit. I am NOT a list of illnesses. I am a person.

I do so hate there are many people that see me as just my chart.

So i prefer to think of myself as a Horsewoman, and animal behaviourist, and a survivor of an extraordinary experience.

Hi Wishing - PLEASE be careful about ordering meds from Canada. I've had several (at least 4) different doctors - including my current oncologist - warn me that a) Canadian drug strength frequently varies from those sold here b) there is, to those doctors' minds a question of the "purity" of those drugs [apparently Canada gets some of them from other countries, and not from the US] and c) if you DO order meds from Canada, depending on what they are, you should take a pill or capsule or whatever to your doctor and have him or her have it tested for quality and purity.
Course if this Spending Bill passes with that godawful "socialist" medicine provision in it - where someone in the government has to approve your treatment as proposed by you doctor, you might as well go ahead if the government says, essentially, that you're not worth spending the money on to make you healthy or keep you alive.

273 P-DEX  Tue, Feb 10, 2009 9:34:05am

I went looking for a map that displayed the 2008 budget deficits of all the states. Found one that showed circles over the states, the larger the circle the bigger the deficit. Well, guess what? The majority of the states with the largest deficits are blue one's...you know, the liberal utopias. I could barely make out the northeast because the circles were so large they blotted out the state boundaries. When this thing gets passed, I have a feeling in four years there will be many states adding larger circles to that map.

If you dont play along with the system in any way you or your loved ones could be denied their healthcare. Think about it. Camps wouldnt be needed. We've been getting rationing from the HMOs. This moves the rationing process over to the government, and connects it to a new national health information technology system. That system has been in the works for years, but never has been fully funded until now.

Health information technology can be used to improve the quality and safety of health care. It also can be used to ration and deny health care. Pulling the plug on Granny is something Dashcle already has said will become necessary to save money. The new national system will enable these rationing choices.

The thought of what could/will be is nauseating...

Listening to Rush, it sounds as though they're starting with senior citizens.

Figures, the Medicare population. If the government provides the beenefits, they set the rules. This is a prelude to a total takeover of the medical delivery system.

Here's the deal - if you have an illness that treatment cannot cure, whether or not you're on private health insurance, under this bill, the decision to go ahead and treat you can be overturned by the Federal Government. They are starting with seniors simply because a) they have shorter lifespans to save and b) most probably have incurable or terminal illnesses.
The ultimate decision to treat you rests with your "value to contribute" to society.
See Canada or Great Britain's Health Care Delivery Serivices to see what we'll get here.

Nonetheless, no Afghan war, no Iraq war and no Katrina and the Republicans spending is modest.

Not yet, but he seems to have gotten a letter from the British embassy that he is not welcome in the UK, EU citizen or not...

Lord Ahmed has threatened to get 10.000 of loyal Mohammedans to take to the streets...

Talk about a 5th column

Anyone want to bet that George Soros has his hands all over this economic crisis?

It's a little bigger than anything Goldfinger Soros can perpetrate on his own, but I'm sure he's not unhappy about it.

The worst part of this is that they want to curtail research and development of new drugs and new treatments, even with private capital:

In his book, Daschle proposed an appointed body with vast powers to make the “tough” decisions elected politicians won’t make.

The stimulus bill does that, and calls it the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research (190-192). The goal, Daschle’s book explained, is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs. He praises Europeans for being more willing to accept “hopeless diagnoses” and “forgo experimental treatments,” and he chastises Americans for expecting too much from the health-care system.

The fucking bastards.

Sounds like we will have a similar situation here like in the Netherlands where they speak so highly of their health care system but euthanasia is practiced.

Something they're proud of, by the way.

Let's hope this massive transfer of power and wealth to Washington politicians only causes us one lost decade, instead of the multi-decade failed experiment in socialism that some European countries are struggling to dig themselves out of.

You should teach at med schools across the nation. That person part gets missed frequently. (I'm an MD, so I know) I'm not kidding.

you show me how, i would do it. Docs need to know we are people. And you just said something the head of neurodiagnostics at UCLA said to me many years ago. That my ability to articulate my experience could help medical people see those of us whom they treat as people just like them.

Point me in the direction, i will go there. Im in the lounge all the time, tho not always active, see if you can catch me there and we could talk about it.

This is a 'Pork and Panic' bill that deserves to be aborted.

It is an 'Obamination' to say that there are no earmarks. It is full of every wish that any politician has ever wanted.

It is full of many 'Bridge to Nowhere' projects.
