Cuban's used to be the Gold standard, but Davidoff didn't abandon their products for no reason. The quality got erratic in the 90'ies and never really recovered.
Lot's of Central American cigars are made from Cuban seed tobacco, which was brought in by the refugee tobacco farmers after the revolution.

The government views the use of Microsoft systems, developed by U.S.-based Microsoft Corp, as a potential threat because it says U.S. security agencies have access to Microsoft codes.
Any country that was running Microsoft on its servers were a bunch of idiots to begin with.
It's not that the US government has access to secret Microsoft codes -- it's that any hacker-boy in New Jersey or Moscow or Manila could crack open the Cuban government computers.
The Castro-ites should have switched to a Unix variant a long time ago.

What?!
Earlier today, on another thread, Charles made a comment (or someone did) that Atlas had a long, front page article on Wilder and LGF. I went there, read the article, and didn't realize it, but they use typekey for accounts, and I have a typekey account, so I signed on and left a few comments today.
My comment above was that I either kill the thread by my comments or else, Atlas doesn't get that much traffic and posts as I would have thought.
I suspect it's the second reason. I don't think my wonderful debating skills stopped anyone from commenting. :)

Why do I think that?
Because a while ago I bought a Southwest Airlines ticket online, and starting about two days afterward, I started getting fake email spam from fraudsters about "your Southwest Airlines ticket." Now, these were definitely spam -- no question. So why in the world would Southwest have sold its email list to a bunch of con artists?
More likely that their databases were hacked, and criminals are preying on naive ticket-buyers to fork over their credit card info again, this time to the bad guys.
Alternately, some employee at Southwest sold the data illegally to to criminals.

IIRC, it was about ten dollars. The youngsters on a business trip to Taipei bought it for me on a late-night outing, and presented it as a gift in the hotel lounge on a Friday night. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I badgered them a bit about the price to make sure I could get them back.

Apart from security concerns, free software better suits Cuba's world view, he said."The free software movement is closer to the ideology of the Cuban people, above all for the independence and sovereignty."
Meaning, "developed on some capitalist's dime, and then we steal it". But of course.

In a similar vein, the Mitusbishi "Montero" is marketed in Europe as the "Pajero", which in some parts of Latin America means "wanker".One could hazard a guess as to HOW you came by that bit of trivia, I suppose, but that might be rude.

Dead Hobo Reporting Glitch Claims Another White House Appointee
WASHINGTON - U.S. Energy Secretary Stephen Chu announced his resignation this morning amid new reports that Alameda County workers had unearthed more than a dozen additional dead hobo bodies at his former home in Berkeley, California. The Nobel Prize-winning physicist had been the subject of a week-long controversy after he amended his White House application form to declare "3 or 4" hobo corpses in his crawl space, but after this morning's discovery, Chu said he felt he could no longer serve as an effective spokesman for Administration energy policy.
"Getting America on the road to energy independence requires a secretary who is focused full time on developing comprehensive strategies for alternative fuels, rather than a political distraction over a handful of decomposing drifters," said Chu. "I'm afraid I am no longer that person."
[...]
The Chu hobo kerfuffle was the latest in a week-long series of Obama administration personnel imbroglis that have led to 36 White House resignations. Former HHS Secretary Tom Daschle and Chief Performance Officer Nancy Killefer saw their tenures cut short over tax issues, which continue to dog Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Geithner is also dogged over dogs, after his failure to report over $14,000 in income from his backyard pitbull fight business. An earlier federal grand jury probe over an alleged 12-state outlaw motorcycle gang methamphetamine network forced Commerce Secretary designate Bill Richardson to resign before Mr.Obama's inauguration. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis faces continued scrutiny over late taxes, lobbying, and involvement in a Tijuana car theft ring, while National Security advisor Samantha Power has received GOP criticism over her 2006 volunteer work as a sniper for the Taliban. Her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has yet to deliver a promised 'full explanation' after police discovered 11 Laotian prostitutes caged in the garage of her Chappaqua NY home. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack faces increasing questions over his one-time membership in an all-white golf and satanic baby snatching club. Last week Mr. Obama was forced to amend an earlier executive order banning lobbyist from administration jobs after news reports identified over a dozen members of his team who previously, or currently, lobbied on behalf of Raytheon, General Dynamics, the UAW, Church of Scientology, the Crips, ACORN, SPECTRE, Friends of Ebola, North Korea, Coalition for a Human-Free Planet, and MSNBC.

I recently updated zone alarm. Since them, I am not certain that this is related, Firefox will run normally for a while and then freeze. It is open and running, but can not load new pages.
If I close firefox at that point, I get a message that firefox is still running and I need to shut it down or restart my computer. Using the task manager, I can not end the process.
PcCillin and is updated and reports no virus or spyware.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure why you are even dealing with him like that.

I know others manage quite well with it but just reading about how to install it makes me cringe. Maybe if I bought a machine that could dual-boot windows and linux already installed then I might change my mind.

It's like NOOO other op sys in the WORLD has ever done the magical stuff that Linux can! Bah humbug I say. I'm no slouch when it comes to software, hardware and what's in between and I don't mind investigating a problem but these Linux distros give me heartburn. No two are alike. The manuals (if any) are incomplete OR the distro has to be INSTALLED before you can read them. This is all due to their foundation in open-source. There isn't any incentive to spend a lot of time making sure that ANYONE can install the system on any hardware configuration. Windows gets a lot of criticism (bunches deserved) but it has always come with a comprehensive manual on HOW TO INSTALL and what to do if it won't.

A: Lawmakers say most of the projects could be up and running within 90 days, although it could take somewhat more time in northern states with longer winters. Highway construction groups have estimated that there are thousands of projects that could be started within that 90 days.

If anyone has ever wondered how a lot of the people of Germany (and in other places) could slowly turn so violently against the Jews, how they could eventually build a mentality that let them believe that what they wanted to do to the Jews was justified and then fulfill that destiny, all you have to do is read the comments on Jihad Watch, Atlas and other such blogs. And of course, we can even see it here on LGF, before Charles so wisely deletes those offensive comments.
It's happening again, and I really don't think there will be any stopping it. I won't join the party, I won't wave the flag and I will do my best to try to stop it.
I can only suggest the same thing that has been suggestive many times before. Learn from this, learn from history, and maybe someday we will stop this vicious cycle of hate.
But for now, if you ever wondered how it could have happened, well, good news, you have a front row seat to the answer.

It may not be a bad idea. Let a bunch of us Americans go there and start telling everyone about capitalism and perhaps, like China, they'll start turning around. Besides, we're going to have to have a safe haven from the socialism the US is about to undertake.

Yep, but she's tough and they might really need a major eclat in order to push her out. She has survived and toughened out the most insulting humiliation by her own husband and just soldiered on, getting a senate seat in her own right and so on.
I hope she stays and makes sense at State.
Ya know , you make a good point. Will she bail out or stay just to stick it to Obama?

Q: How long would it take for highway projects to begin?
A: Lawmakers say most of the projects could be up and running within 90 days, although it could take somewhat more time in northern states with longer winters. Highway construction groups have estimated that there are thousands of projects that could be started within that 90 days.
BullShit. The company I work for subs on Hwy jobs and the only thing that gets done in 90 days is our invoice being submitted to the state.
Columbus,OH is planning on using 200M for a light-rail project. Are you suggestion that won't be up and running in 90 days?

With ethenol production here in the states using all the feed corn, that would make sense since the price of fruitose corn syrup ( used in lace of sugar in most american products) is going to go up and not be as cost effective as it once was...

On a side note, when I get worked up, my Brooklyn comes out in me, and I start using words in the wrong place or way, a lot like Norm Crosby, the double talker did as comedy.
Sorry for the gaffs, but when I get to typing and thinking like that, I don't like to stop for the nice little edits.

You think they're going to cause a Holocaust against the Muslims?
Do you think a few bloggers really have that much influence?
Are you equating Islam with Judaism and Muslims of today with Jews of the 1930s and 1940s?

I'm actually kind of mad about this. Not because I don't want more of my money back, but the amount, is nothing but a slap in the face to people that are actually working.

I meant jobs for our people.
Those slaves all work their rears off!
And then they walk back to their homes.
If you can't understand how having a cheap source of sugar for ethanol refineries here as opposed to just importing expensive Arab oil could create jobs here, I'm at a loss.

Charles, or anyone with uber-tech-skilz:
Is is possible to run some sort of hackified OSX (i.e. Apple-flavored Unix) on a standard "PC" laptop? In particular, an Asus Eee laptop?
I mean, if one can get Linux to run on these things, it ought to be possible to get get OSX to run as well, since they're essentially variants of the same thing -- a Unix operating system.
The only roadblock would be some special code built into OSX by Apple that says "This can only be run on Apple hardware" -- but I'm assuming some hacker-types have found a way to disable that.
Right? Right? Class?

I don't have any links for recommended reading, but can say that in my very limited experience Ubuntu installs easily and works well. The desktop version is a live CD, so you can boot into Linux from the CD without installing it, and get a feel for it.

the live CD also has an option - install to USB drive.
it'll install a full ubuntu linux on a usb pen drive - which you can then boot off.
this allows you to preserve your windows install while trying out linux.
and unlike the cd, with a usb pen drive, you can install software and do stuff like a normal hard drive.

Sweet! Nice. Thanks.
Now, if I get an Asus Eee, I won't have to run some weird OS, like Windows or Linux.
And if Apple (Steven Jobs, can you hear me?) would make a product that was comparable in size and form-factor to the Eee (i.e. about midway between a 12" MacBook and an iPhone 3G), then I wouldn't have to do any of this.
Why Apple never made a sub-notebook, I'll never know. They'd sell a jillion of them in Japan.

apple never follows the herd.
my guess is that they'll do something completely different.
like an iphone , with a laser keyboard.

trying again. laser keyboard.
if that doesnt work, search youtube for "laser keyboard"... you'll see what i'm on about. apple doesnt need to do a netbook. it'll come out with something utterly different.

Once Ubuntu is installed it is much easier than Windows to find, install and remove software.

worst thing about linux is the lack of synchronization. Install a new kernel and a driver breaks because it uses old code. Then surprise, you have to wait 5 months for new drivers because a whole section of the code has been rewritten and the functions used are deprecated, then thrown out. Linux also goes on a witch hunt to get rid of proprietary drivers. What a pain.
