Does it really matter how much the Republicans debate? They don't have the body count to effect change. Glenn Beck showed a picture of a rooftop where a guy painted "I want 2 be heard." I sent letters to my two senators to object to the stim package. Didn't even get a, "Thank you for your input . . . " response.

They are not listening.

Because what people see is actually very important. Reagan was a master at giving lots of free footage to the media, knowing that they'd use it, and whatever they said would be drowned out by what the people saw.

Why do you think we have beautiful but stupid celebrities everywhere?

Stimulus has $30M to save Pelosi's harvest mouse

House Republicans are challenging Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that the massive stimulus spending bill contains no pet projects after uncovering in the bill more than $30 million for wetlands conservation in her San Francisco Bay area district, including work she previously championed to protect the salt marsh harvest mouse.

"This sounds like spending projects that have been supported by a certain powerful Democrat in the past," said Michael Steel, spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.

Remember, Obama said there are no earmarks in Porkapalooza, this is stimulus at its best!

Todays American History Lesson; Shay's Rebellion

Mounting financial crisis
The financial situation boiled down to this: European war investors among others demanded payment in gold and silver; there was not enough gold and silver in the states, including Massachusetts, to pay the debts; and through the state, wealthy urban businessmen were trying to squeeze whatever assets they could get out of rural smallholders. Since the smallholders did not have the gold that the creditors demanded, everything they had was confiscated, including their homes.

At a meeting convened by aggravated commoners, a farmer, Plough Jogger, encapsulated the situation:

"I have been greatly abused, have been obliged to do more than my part in the war; been loaded with class rates, town rates, province rates, Continental rates and all rates...been pulled and hauled by sheriffs, constables and collectors, and had my cattle sold for less than they were worth...The great men are going to get all we have and I think it is time for us to rise and put a stop to it, and have no more courts, nor sheriffs, nor collectors nor lawyers."

I home schooled her and taught a disabled girl the teacher said would never read, to get all the way thru harry potter and baisic genetics. Just dont look worried. Look bored. Like they are SOOOOO uncool. It works.

I had my girl saying "prepuce," "Vagina," "ovulation cycle," and "sperm count vs motility factor," when she was fifteen like she was a professional Vet tech in a big Equine Hospital. She felt so smart. I almost died when she told someone i was a "semen collection technician" tho when they asked what i did.

I even miss the spendthrift Republican Majority that people were so mightily pissed at. The current Congress is going to make them look like amateurs at busting the deficit and throwing away money.

Hell - I am starting to miss the Clinton years. At least he followed some semblance of sane fiscal policy (especially with the Republican Congress).

We need to elect a Republican Congress to end Obama's Unicorn Stampede.

IS US AIR SUPERIORITY ON THE DECLINE?

(I sincerely hope not!)

American air superiority has been so complete for so long that we take it for granted. For more than half a century, we’ve made only rare use of the aerial-combat skills of a man like Cesar Rodriguez, who retired two years ago with more air-to-air kills than any other active-duty fighter pilot. But our technological edge is eroding—Russia, China, India, North Korea, and Pakistan all now fly fighter jets with capabilities equal or superior to those of the F-15, the backbone of American air power since the Carter era. Now we have a choice. We can stock the Air Force with the expensive, cutting-edge F‑22—maintaining our technological superiority at great expense to our Treasury. Or we can go back to a time when the cost of air supremacy was paid in the blood of men like Rodriguez.

While the Raptor will be an air supiriority fighter second to none, the F-35 will more than make up the difference when it comes on line. I know the price on both is much more that the 15, 16, and even the newer super hornet 18, but when the three major branches and the Marines get fighters that can do everything with minimal inventories for overhead, the costs in real terms will be much less than keeping such a big stable of multi role specialty air craft, Look at what these two aircraft will be replacing, F-117, (already being phased out to free up $ ) , A-10, Av8-b, F-15, F16, F/A 18, EAF18.....

All $13.00 per pay check, and down to $8.00 per pay check later.

Q: What are some of the tax breaks in the bill?

A: It includes Obama's signature "Making Work Pay" tax credit for 95 percent of workers, though negotiators agreed to trim the credit to $400 a year instead of $500 — or $800 for married couples, cut from Obama's original proposal of $1,000. It would begin showing up in most workers' paychecks in June as an extra $13 a week in take-home pay, falling to about $8 a week next January.

This economic stuff is scary and I think the only thing that's clear is that nobody really knows what the solution is.
That leaves us with nothing to rely on but trust in the judgement of the government. And we face this crisis with what is undeniably the most left wing extremist government we've ever had. A government that has an agenda. And in the face of unknowns that agenda becomes ever more dangerous.
A moderate government would be likely to err on the side of caution, which is the best you could hope for in these circumstances. But an extremist, left wing government will err on the side of recklessness because even if their plans fail and collapse results....that is still in their agenda and allows for complete takeover of everything. Which is the original agenda.

Technologically it might be getting dicey in the short term, but it's easy to forget that we haven't always been on the top rung in airpower. We started WWII and Korea with inferior airframes and came out the other side with overwhelming superiority in almost every category (German jets notwithstanding). 'Course, that assumes we have enough time in the next war to reclaim it...

Due to pressure from Warner Bros., this cartoon was one of 11 pulled from rotation by the Cartoon Network for its 2001 "June Bugs" marathon, which was to show the complete chronology of Bugs Bunny cartoons. This is in addition to the "Censored 11" that have been withheld from distribution since 1968. The reason given was the short could potentially offend African-Americans.

It happens all the time. Democrats run as Republicans to appeal to that constituency, and their only purpose is to undermine the party.

The 'Blue Dogs' are just another example of this. Politicians that not only lie to get elected, but have an entirely manufactured persona, right down to their political and social views. Views that are almost completely inverted from who they are and what they stand for in reality.

Every single Democrat voted for this bill. Blue Dogs included. Not a one held out. Not a single Democrat will switch parties over this, or find themselves on the outs like Lieberman did with foreign policy. All intra-party disputes that pertain to social and economic policy are political theater.

These people will do whatever it takes to push their agenda. Their overriding goal is political power, and scruples are just some quaint concept for the bitter, clinging yokels in flyover country.

OT:

Apparently there was a violent protest at York University in Toronto.

There was a TA and Contract Professor strike for 3 months, and students were locked out of classes. Last week, the government forced everyone back to school. During the strike, the students were very against the strike, and wanted to return to school, but the student government (York Federation of Students or YFS) supported the striking union, and actually used student fees to host events for those on strike. As a result, there is a large campaign to remove the student government called Drop YFS, and is several Jewish students are involved in organizing the campaign.

The pro-YFS crowd has begun to accuse Jews of attempting to overthrow the YFS, and I have heard from friends that a protest outside the campus Hillel house turned to chants of "death... death to jews!" and "free palestine!"... it got to the point where the Jewish students barricaded themselves inside the Hillel office, and had to be escorted out by Police.

Notwithstanding the disagreements here on this blog of Charles's.

We are the tip of the spear, the spear of freedom. Some think of it as the "sheep dog" protecting the flock, some see it as leadership, in any event, it must be done.
One thing to keep clear in your minds is that it is addictive, the mental surge, the Adrenalin surge, the feeling of ecstasy of the moment of victory is very, very addictive... resist that, stay on freedoms trail, stay with one another, do not become like those we rail against so well, this very moment in time...

like that

From your link:

After the events of September and October, 2001, however, the U.S. government took further actions to improve its level of preparedness against terrorism. One of many such measures—designed specifically to prepare for an intentional release of the smallpox virus—included updating and releasing a smallpox response plan. In addition, the U.S. government has enough vaccine to vaccinate every person in the United States in the event of a smallpox emergency.

If that isn't true, or they can't get the vaccine out in time, you can basically expect everyone under 37 years old to become ill and about half of them are likely to die.

Too bad that the infected area was an air port... next pearl of wisdom?

seriously. Ask Kragar if you dont believe me.
there isnt enough vaccine for us all. Its NOT stockpiled. Dont delude yourself.

The plan is that all military, and disaster response personel, plust hospital workers will get it. Those who are connected will get it, and the infected will be quarantined.

look at history and you will see they round up the infected and those they came in contact with, and there they stay. Its called effective allocation if resources. and disaster protocol.
in triage if you are a "black tag" they just leave you.

As far as airports go. expect martial law.

Yes there is. One of many "debris clouds" out there

BTW, if you ever wondered about that "Barney Baruch Private Bench", which Bugs Bunny crosses out, and replaces with his name, here's the guy they're talking about (he coined the term "Cold War"), and this explains the park bench reference.

What an interesting guy from an interesting family. When I'm next in D.C. I will definitely visit his bench.

The problem with airports is that it would effectively halt air travel into and out of as well as within the US. I can't imagine how that would be handled.

No doubt but ye are the People-your throne is above the King's.
Whoso speaks in your presence must say acceptable things:
Bowing the head in worship, bending the knee in fear-
Bringing the word well smoothen-such as a King should hear.

OK. I need to ask you. I have been wondering how you come up with all this stuff. I had visions of you at your computer with post-its everywhere with all these coincidentally relevant sayings and song lyrics. Nope, not plausible. my response was to the notion that affected areas would be "quarantined" ... yeah 4 days after the fact. Somehow I just don't feel that a system that can allow someone to walk across the border & steal an SS# can really help stop a pandemic. Just my opinion.

I haven't heard any respected business leaders speak well of the stimulus package on the news. I have heard numerous politicians on the MSM excited about getting money which they will use to create jobs. Bass ackwards.

The MSM is sorta cloyingly sickening when they talk of Pres. Obama and the stimulus package. They put their best smiley face on and beam as much as they can when they say the word Obama. Maybe it's not an act.

This is a sectoring of the stimulus if it goes mainly through governments. A lot of people that really need some help will never see it. And the cost is passed on into the future as inflation. If there are 10 people in a room and they need to create a stimulus package they will all end up having less.
