Stimulus has $30M to save Pelosi's harvest mouse
House Republicans are challenging Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that the massive stimulus spending bill contains no pet projects after uncovering in the bill more than $30 million for wetlands conservation in her San Francisco Bay area district, including work she previously championed to protect the salt marsh harvest mouse.
"This sounds like spending projects that have been supported by a certain powerful Democrat in the past," said Michael Steel, spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.

Todays American History Lesson; Shay's Rebellion
Mounting financial crisis
The financial situation boiled down to this: European war investors among others demanded payment in gold and silver; there was not enough gold and silver in the states, including Massachusetts, to pay the debts; and through the state, wealthy urban businessmen were trying to squeeze whatever assets they could get out of rural smallholders. Since the smallholders did not have the gold that the creditors demanded, everything they had was confiscated, including their homes. At a meeting convened by aggravated commoners, a farmer, Plough Jogger, encapsulated the situation:
"I have been greatly abused, have been obliged to do more than my part in the war; been loaded with class rates, town rates, province rates, Continental rates and all rates...been pulled and hauled by sheriffs, constables and collectors, and had my cattle sold for less than they were worth...The great men are going to get all we have and I think it is time for us to rise and put a stop to it, and have no more courts, nor sheriffs, nor collectors nor lawyers."

IS US AIR SUPERIORITY ON THE DECLINE?
American air superiority has been so complete for so long that we take it for granted. For more than half a century, we’ve made only rare use of the aerial-combat skills of a man like Cesar Rodriguez, who retired two years ago with more air-to-air kills than any other active-duty fighter pilot. But our technological edge is eroding—Russia, China, India, North Korea, and Pakistan all now fly fighter jets with capabilities equal or superior to those of the F-15, the backbone of American air power since the Carter era. Now we have a choice. We can stock the Air Force with the expensive, cutting-edge F‑22—maintaining our technological superiority at great expense to our Treasury. Or we can go back to a time when the cost of air supremacy was paid in the blood of men like Rodriguez.

IS US AIR SUPERIORITY ON THE DECLINE?
(I sincerely hope not!)
.
While the Raptor will be an air supiriority fighter second to none, the F-35 will more than make up the difference when it comes on line. I know the price on both is much more that the 15, 16, and even the newer super hornet 18, but when the three major branches and the Marines get fighters that can do everything with minimal inventories for overhead, the costs in real terms will be much less than keeping such a big stable of multi role specialty air craft, Look at what these two aircraft will be replacing, F-117, (already being phased out to free up $ ) , A-10, Av8-b, F-15, F16, F/A 18, EAF18.....

Q: What are some of the tax breaks in the bill?
A: It includes Obama's signature "Making Work Pay" tax credit for 95 percent of workers, though negotiators agreed to trim the credit to $400 a year instead of $500 — or $800 for married couples, cut from Obama's original proposal of $1,000. It would begin showing up in most workers' paychecks in June as an extra $13 a week in take-home pay, falling to about $8 a week next January.
Is this a joke?

This economic stuff is scary and I think the only thing that's clear is that nobody really knows what the solution is.
That leaves us with nothing to rely on but trust in the judgement of the government. And we face this crisis with what is undeniably the most left wing extremist government we've ever had. A government that has an agenda. And in the face of unknowns that agenda becomes ever more dangerous.
A moderate government would be likely to err on the side of caution, which is the best you could hope for in these circumstances. But an extremist, left wing government will err on the side of recklessness because even if their plans fail and collapse results....that is still in their agenda and allows for complete takeover of everything. Which is the original agenda.

'Course, that assumes we have enough time in the next war to reclaim it...

According to IMDb:
Due to pressure from Warner Bros., this cartoon was one of 11 pulled from rotation by the Cartoon Network for its 2001 "June Bugs" marathon, which was to show the complete chronology of Bugs Bunny cartoons. This is in addition to the "Censored 11" that have been withheld from distribution since 1968. The reason given was the short could potentially offend African-Americans.

The 'Blue Dogs' are just another example of this. Politicians that not only lie to get elected, but have an entirely manufactured persona, right down to their political and social views. Views that are almost completely inverted from who they are and what they stand for in reality.
Every single Democrat voted for this bill. Blue Dogs included. Not a one held out. Not a single Democrat will switch parties over this, or find themselves on the outs like Lieberman did with foreign policy. All intra-party disputes that pertain to social and economic policy are political theater.
These people will do whatever it takes to push their agenda. Their overriding goal is political power, and scruples are just some quaint concept for the bitter, clinging yokels in flyover country.

The stimulus package isn't designed to work in a quantitative way that you can figure out on your calculator. Its all about trying to shore up confidence. Once there is confidence, everything else follows. In the absence of anything like a gold standard, the only thing backing up the currency is confidence.
Not very reassuring. We have fiat currency, which is not backed by gold, and what at this stage do we have to be confident about ? Sounds Peter Pan ish to me.

I vaccinated my children against chicken pox. They all got it, except for my daughter, who got chicken pock. One.
I would do it again. I was one sick little girl when I got it, and my kids barely felt sick!
My two older kids had it before the vaccine was available. The youngest was a newborn at the time and still had my immunities. When she got older and the vaccine was available, she had such a morbid fear of needles that I could not bring myself to get her yet another shot. Thankfully, when she eventually got it it was a mild case. In retrospect, I should I have made her get the shot.

OT:
Apparently there was a violent protest at York University in Toronto.
There was a TA and Contract Professor strike for 3 months, and students were locked out of classes. Last week, the government forced everyone back to school. During the strike, the students were very against the strike, and wanted to return to school, but the student government (York Federation of Students or YFS) supported the striking union, and actually used student fees to host events for those on strike. As a result, there is a large campaign to remove the student government called Drop YFS, and is several Jewish students are involved in organizing the campaign.
The pro-YFS crowd has begun to accuse Jews of attempting to overthrow the YFS, and I have heard from friends that a protest outside the campus Hillel house turned to chants of "death... death to jews!" and "free palestine!"... it got to the point where the Jewish students barricaded themselves inside the Hillel office, and had to be escorted out by Police.
I'll keep you posted as I learn more!

From your link:
After the events of September and October, 2001, however, the U.S. government took further actions to improve its level of preparedness against terrorism. One of many such measures—designed specifically to prepare for an intentional release of the smallpox virus—included updating and releasing a smallpox response plan. In addition, the U.S. government has enough vaccine to vaccinate every person in the United States in the event of a smallpox emergency.
If that isn't true, or they can't get the vaccine out in time, you can basically expect everyone under 37 years old to become ill and about half of them are likely to die.

The linked story says:

Hey Matt, Kabul is in Afghanistan.

HA. how are you doing? i am having fun on facebook. we need to get more lizards on there. It seems the group needs leadership?
I'm good, and you? I suspect a lot of folks prefer to keep their real life and their lizard life separate. Also, we're so busy chatting over here, who cares about a Facebook group?
I just noticed the time -- I'm missing American Idol and I need to watch my sweetie Danny Gokey advance. He is this year's David Cook (for those of you who care about this stuff). Later, lizards!

my response was to the notion that affected areas would be "quarantined" ... yeah 4 days after the fact. Somehow I just don't feel that a system that can allow someone to walk across the border & steal an SS# can really help stop a pandemic. Just my opinion.

OK, just so long as we know it won't work... I never did have much faith that getting under my desk would save me from a nuke either.

I haven't heard any respected business leaders speak well of the stimulus package on the news. I have heard numerous politicians on the MSM excited about getting money which they will use to create jobs. Bass ackwards.
The MSM is sorta cloyingly sickening when they talk of Pres. Obama and the stimulus package. They put their best smiley face on and beam as much as they can when they say the word Obama. Maybe it's not an act.
This is a sectoring of the stimulus if it goes mainly through governments. A lot of people that really need some help will never see it. And the cost is passed on into the future as inflation. If there are 10 people in a room and they need to create a stimulus package they will all end up having less.

Harry Reid - Nancy Pel REPEL me. Good Lord, I despise these two people more than anybody. I would rather have dinner with Hamas than Re-Pel...at least Hamas would pick up the check.
Random thought - pictures lately - if you've seen them...doesn't Nancy Pelosi's nose/mouth look really a lot like Henry Waxman's?

The Dr. is back in the house. If nobody else has said it before, on the overall, the difference between the so-called "Stimulus Bill" and a bag of POOP is the BAG. That is all.

Am I too late to add a Nikon D700 digital Camera and my next years Arsenal season ticket to the Porkulus bill?
Americans should rest assured that the D700 is not the "top of the range" Nikon and is much cheaper than the D3X.
