Do we get teasers, reine? A taste of what's in store inside?

28 Kosh's Shadow  Sat, Feb 14, 2009 5:06:19pm

I'll be ordering mine soon.

All the recipes I came up with or modified aren't defined well enough to put in a book.
My latest is slice some potatoes and some beets, put in a glass baking dish, top with some sliced onions, butter and margarine.
Roast at 325 for 60-75 minutes, making sure nothing sticks to the pan every so often (at least once when the oven warms).
Hard to figure out what "some" is, and it varies.

pp 3 - 153 are recipe pages. Some pages have 2, sometimes one recipe took 2 pages. But there are probably right about 150 recipes.

pp 157 - 172 contain the ROFLMAO section, includes selected quotes on various topics like, what goes on at a lizard meeting, Obama-Pelosi-and the Dems, sometimes we have transatlantic spelling wars, someone's ready for the boob thread, the LGF guide to personal hygiene, general posting etiquette, A Buzzsawmonkey Moment, conspiracy theories, How a Lady Fills her Gas Tank by Mandy Manners, Very Punny Stuff, and a couple of others.

There are also some blank pages so you can write or print & paste things you want to keep.

I predict this book will rake in millions...or at least make money...several years ago all the fans at Little Feat's Hoy Hoy Digest made up a cook book and it did way better than expected and all the proceeds went to a fund for the drummers young son who had been hit by a drunk driver and suffered terrible brain damage...we raised alot of dough for treatments and rehab and such...it was extremely rewarding and just a hell of alot of fun...

re: #77 Afrocity
To me, the "N" word is just a stupid overrated word that people (both black and white) give too much power too. I prefer to call someone a word that really describes them...whether it be a nice word or not. As for "homie" I think that is just a silly word that the youngin's use. I DO however teach my niece that she is a lovely shade of brown. And I mean it. We should embrace the differences in one another. When we all keep trying to act like there are NO differences amongst us, we are only deluding ourselves. She is a beautiful brown little girl. My nephew is a handsome brown young man. Take it...own it...enjoy it. I would never want those two to feel uncomfortable about themselves. I hope that made sense. : )

EGG-GOOP

Serves 4 to 6

Submitted by Mandy Manners

Bland enough for Foggy Bottom; you spice it up with sides – sausage, bacon, steak, fresh fruit!

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 – 10 boiled eggs
Toasted English Muffins
Toasted Bread

Preparation:
Melt butter in decent-sized pot or pan.
Blend in flour and salt.
Add milk.
Cook quickly and stir constantly until it’s thickened and bubbly.
Add chopped eggs and stir a lot.
Pour over the bread things.
Eat.

I had that job - nearly. No, really I worked for 2 1/2 years in Ethiopia and had lots of that food.
Worst part was telling the host that I couldn't eat something in a diplomatic way as not to offend.
Reason: raw meat is not so save in those climates. Other dishes were swimming in butter of unknown age.
Other than that and if one knows to order according to his own needs, there are very nice foods indeed.

Thanks. No problem. As far as what is kosher, I always tinker with certain ingredients to make a recipe kosher, and have more kosher cookbooks that a place to keep them!

I get a kick out of my daughter who has so many of my recipes that she tinkers with. She is a superb cook and also bakes amazingly well. The 2-year old and my son-in-law are very happy guys!

The only problem is getting veggies into small stuff. He has gone on strike, and can find the hidden veggies in a nano second.

LOL!
Yes, they have that ability, don't they?

He wins pride of place. One of my sons was a real pain, and sets a bad example for my granddaughter, but she now is almost 9, and loves veggies...but the toddler seems to have a vegetable sensor that goes off! Daughter has tried every trick in the book, and then some. I told her to ignore him (not possible!;) and he will grow out of it, but she then points at her brother, but he at least does eat some vegetables. We are talking a no vegetable rule here with the bandit. And we have to keep a straight face!

Anyone have a suggestion?

I think fruit is now considered the same "food group" as veggies.

Fruit for snacks.
And don't worry about the veggies, which are often bitter and young tongues don't like them.

Bingo! He adores any fruit, and can be quite exotic. He has yet to meet one that he doesn't like. I must tell daughter to chill. Usually letting a phase like this pass is the best thing to do, I think.

Yes.
He will be OK if he has a vitamin, or V8 like someone suggested, and fruit.

re: #201 outsidephilly

I am getting the feeling that I was very lucky with 3 of my 4 kids, and with my 2 little granddaughters...never a problem.

I used to actually let my kids have desert first, if they wanted it, and they then ate the meal. I didn't want to make desert a big deal, as I remember my childhood, where I was always told I could not have it unless I ate all of my dinner, thus making desert take on an importance it just does not deserve. I should have prefaced this by saying that I grew up during WWII, when everything was rationed, and food must have taken on a very different issue than it is today.

Kids can use food as a weapon, and do! And I am not referring to throwing it at each other at the table. That was a whole other story.

And President Bush (the father) is proof of that! ;)

In my family, dessert was a once a week treat. Do (or did) you make a dessert for every night of the week?

208 tradewind  Sat, Feb 14, 2009 7:47:19pm

I freely admit that I scammed my kids into eating veggies from tothood with subterfuge... I grated zucchini and squash into cakes , bread, and even meatloaf...put vegetable juices in spaghetti sauce, and mixed their fruit juices with carrot juice. Most children don't like the taste of cruciferous veggies until their taste buds have matured considerably, and so I just helped them along until they knew better.
They're all decent eaters now, and none of them are holding a grudge.
Seriously, it was fun, too...feeding kids can get to the point of no creative challenge, and this took care of that.

I had no idea this project existed, or I would have sent in some of my delightful goodies. Charles, please make it more evident when the time comes for volume 2.

First, thank you Reine for persistence, and to the scaled legions who cold-bloodedly helped bring this to reality.

Jaunte--the cover illustrator? Our Jaunte? Beautifully done, truly awesom.

Now then: since the beneficiary is 1) LGF Tip Jar and 2) Soldiers Angels -- might we go one step further down that slippery slope of capitalism to arrange to buy copies of the cover art as a poster?

It happens that someone near and dear to me has a lizard obsession. Oh, he's a hopeless liberal Dem, mind you, but with that interesting dash of reptilian realism that surprises and inspires hope in the midst of ludicrosity.

Seriously: well done indeed.
