Hannity’s Scaremonger of the Day

US News • Views: 12,288

Tonight on the Sean Hannity show, a featured guest was Martin Mawyer, discussing what he says is a network of Islamic terror cells in the United States, planning attacks with weapons of mass destruction.

Who is Martin Mawyer? SPLCenter.org: ‘A Mighty Army’.

Yes, I know, it’s the Southern Poverty Law Center again; but unfortunately, no one else seems to be keeping an eye on people like this.

Martin Mawyer, longtime editor of Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority Report, founded the Christian Action Network (CAN) in 1990, a year after Falwell folded the original Moral Majority.

In his “dirty and dangerous” battle against “militant homosexual groups,” Mawyer has not held back. In 1997, after Ellen Degeneres came out as a lesbian on her TV sitcom, Mawyer accused her of “DUMPING HER FILTHY LESBIAN LIFESTYLE RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF YOUR LIVING ROOM!! … If we allow the tidal wave of gay and lesbian smut to continue to pour into our homes, it will utterly consume us in no time at all!”

In 1999, he asked the Federal Communications Commission to put an “HC [homosexual conduct] warning label” on TV programs with gay characters. The following year, CAN caused a national stir when TV stations refused to air its inflammatory ad attacking Hillary Clinton, who was then running for U.S. Senate.

Over ominous drumbeats, the narrator intoned: “It is rumored that Hillary Clinton is a lesbian. It is rumored that Hillary Clinton supported homosexual marriage. It is rumored that Hillary Clinton will leave her husband upon taking office. … Sometimes, rumors are true. Shouldn’t you know the truth? For more information on traditional family values, please contact the Christian Action Network.”

More recently, CAN protested “Gay Days” at Disney World and other theme parks — events that Mawyer’s wife and CAN partner, Bonnie, says demonstrate “the true intent of these homosexuals: they are after our children!!”

A 2000 Mawyer mailing incorporated militia-like paranoia: “I am not ready to give this great nation over to one-world government extremists … radical, disease-carrying homosexuals … anti-family lesbian feminists … or anti-American U.N. globalists!”

CAN activists today are familiar faces at Gay Days, videotaping “bad behavior.” In 2003, CAN turned its footage of “homosexual kissing, hugging and fondling” into a video tour of the Southeast, warning parents about the perils of Gay Days and warning that “homosexuals live in a pattern of sin and debauchery.”

If someone like this is now the spokesman for the “anti-jihad movement,” it is well and truly dead. And if you put any credibility in what he says, you’re being hoodwinked.

UPDATE at 2/16/09 10:07:28 pm:

An excerpt from the show:

Mawyer: They have weapons of mass destruction…

Hannity: What kind of weapons of mass destruction?

Mawyer: Well, in some cases I can’t uh, even tell you, Sean.

Right.

I found hannity unappealing years ago by his behaving like a rabid little dog with a bone, and he's done nothing since then to improve his image in my eyes.

The SPLC is off the wall on some things but on stuff like this they've been on the wall for a long time, keeping watch. And I thank them for it.

I don't think he realizes what a turnoff it is to watch him berate his own guests for minutes on end by asking the same question over and over. He did it the entire time! The same question. I was thinking, "let it go and move on", but no. He asked the same question over and over for almost two minutes. It's embarrassing when people think that's discourse from the right because he's some "poster boy".

Stratfor on Jamaat Al-Fuqra

The U.S. government claims that al-Fuqra members were involved in 13 bombings and arsons during the 1980s and 1990s and were responsible for at least 17 homicides. Many of these attacks targeted Indian groups such as the Hare Krishnas, or heterodox Muslim groups such as the Ahmadiyya sect. In 1991, five al-Fuqra members were arrested at a border crossing in Niagara Falls, N.Y., after authorities found their plans to attack an Indian cinema and a Hindu temple in Toronto, Canada. Three of the five later were convicted on charges stemming from the plot.
According to sources, many al-Fuqra members have fought in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Lebanon, Bosnia and Chechnya. Several members also have been affiliated with the al-Kifah Refugee Center -- popularly known as the Brooklyn Jihad Office. Group member Clement Hampton-el, for example, provided weapons training to several people associated with the Brooklyn Jihad Office. One of those men, El Sayyid Nosair later would use that training to assassinate the Rabbi Meir Kahane in Manhattan. Hampton-el was convicted along with several other men, including Nosair's cousin, Ibrahim Elgabrowny and Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, also known as The Blind Sheikh, in the 1993 New York Bomb Plot Case, and sentenced to serve 35 years.

More recently, police investigators working on the D.C. sniper case tied convicted killer John Allen Muhammed to al-Fuqra. Rumors also surfaced that "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid was connected to the group. Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, in fact, was investigating the Reid/al-Fuqra connection and was in the process of attempting to interview Gilani when he was abducted and killed.

If Stratfor thinks they are bad news, they probably are.

Founder of Islamic TV station accused of beheading wife

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The founder of an Islamic television station in upstate New York aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes has confessed to beheading his wife, authorities said.

Muzzammil Hassan was charged with second-degree murder after police found the decapitated body of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, at the Bridges TV station in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, said Andrew Benz, Orchard Park's police chief.

...

He launched Bridges TV, billed as the first English-language cable channel targeting Muslims inside the United States, in 2004. At the time, Hassan said he hoped the network would balance negative portrayals of Muslims following the attacks of September 11, 2001.
----

..i wonder if his own tv station is covering it, or not because it will hurt the portrayal of muslims. i wonder.

"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh's charioteers ... AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals."

"Nothing will motivate conservative evangelical Christians to vote Republican in the 2008 presidential election more than a Democratic nominee named Hillary Rodham Clinton - not even a run by the devil himself ... Speaking of fighting the enemy, I just finished reading Defiance, the book upon which the movie Defiance was based. I enjoyed the movie, and I absolutely Love the book. It's Anne Frank on steroids. The amazing story goes on and on over the space of 4 years and involving 1200 Jewish survivors living in the forests of Belorussia. I spent all evening reading excerpts to Mr DT.

I poured scorn on Democratic Underground for their purge of Nader supporters in 2004 but that was, frankly, election year rhetoric and sniping. In fact, I have always believed the Nader purge was a good (albeit ruthless) strategy, and very necessary if their guy(JFin'K) was to have any chance to win.

We are in the same fix today. Our "big tent" is too big and a lot of vermin have crawled in under the edges. A thorough cleansing is in order if we are to present a viable alternative to the disastrous course set for western civilization by the media and the currently dominant political party.

The other point about Defiance was how many groups were fighting the Germans: the Jewish partisans, the soviet partisans, the polish partisans, and the belorussian peasants caught in between.

And these groups would often turn and fight with each other - especially after the Germans were defeated.

The major difference between Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson is that Robertson's still around. And he and Jerry Both condemned America TOGETHER, on Pat's show, immediately after 9-11. And said that we deserved it, and that God let it happen, because we refused to embrace their fundamentalist sexism and homophobia.

They were the flip side of Ward Chuchhill.

154 Gretchen G.Tiger  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 8:31:05pm

158 GhostShip  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 8:32:08pm

Well since the MSM won't cover stories about Jihad training camps in the USA then it's naturally going to leave a vacuum that somebody will fill. It also stands to reason that the ones to first fill it won't be ones you'll like. It's always the extremists who first fill the void and if they find success there then larger and more mainstream groups will follow. So Charles is wrong in seeing this as a setback for the anti-jihad forces when it's really the first sign of success.

166 Almost Killed by Space Hookers  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 8:33:39pm

This is where we are at a crossroads.

Barbara Tuckman has a great book called The March of Folly. She in essence talks about how nations and groups of people can throw "good money after bad" with the notion that when we went a little that way and got extremely bad results, surely things would be better if we went a lot that way.

It is really coming down to level heads to try their best to prevail.

On the one side we have the moonbats who hate everything about America and the idea of America standing up for itself. They do this because, America, despite the fact that we usually are the good guys, does not always live up to our own high ideals. The moonbats are searching for any evidence that we really are the bad guys.

The worst thing we can do is ally ourselves with bad guys who claim to be on "our side." If we do, any cogent argument we make will be drowned out by association. The other side is already primed to dismiss us.

Now, I am not arguing that we need to make ourselves more palatable to the moonbats. Please do not think I would suggest anything that stupid. There is no amount of logic in the world that will reach a moonbat.

I am suggesting that to keep America focused, as far as anti-jihad goes, we need to reach and keep the middle and the center left. We do not have to agree on any of the issues at all that normally divide left and right to agree that there is a real threat from the jihadis - if we can reasonably get through to people and keep them focused on the facts.

Because of the ascendancy of the more shrill left we already have an uphill battle on that front. If we have our representatives become the opposite number of the moonbats - I am imagining a lefty Zombie filming people like Vlaams Belang - any reasonable thing we say becomes the subject of ridicule by association.

At that point the Jihadis win because the Left still has it's head in the sand.

We and that means you and me, need to maintain the most cogent tones possible. We need to not be at all like the bad guys, the ridiculous guys and the plain crazy guys attaching themselves onto our camp. If we fail at this we loose. It is that simple.

And I find a lot of folk like Jainphx can only parrot what people like Falwell says. In themselves, they have NO idea what the hebrew and greek scriptures say about certain sexual practices.

And you cannot just read a passage that says "man should not lay with man" unless you understand the social and historical content which the statement was made in. And a lot of folk like Jainphx don't know anything about what is really contained in scripture.

Man, are you dreaming. Yeah, this is the first blow in the epic battle!

IIRC, the Vatican Website has an article that explains that homosexuality is NOT a sin. We are exactly as G-d made us and wants us.

According to the article it is homosexual acts that is sinful.

(I assume because a new life cannot be created thru homosexual sex--which is, of course, the ONLY purpose for sex ;) ///

So, where do the so-called Christians get-off judging other people?

This is correct.

And, the Church holds that any sexual activity outside of marriage is sinful, whether it's hetero or homosexual activity.

Hannity is a hindrance to righty thinking. I saw the clip in question, first thought that came to my head was "Jeez, he's trying to frighten his audience sheep again, he needs a new schtick!" Then the scary music and videos of olived-skinned beareded males shooting rifles in a forest was cued up with Hannity's annoying narration of "Terrorist camps right here in America!" Then he showed a map of the U.S. with 35 dots on it, where there are supposedly these homegrown terrorist camps. I couldn't help but notice that one of those dots was rather close to where I live here in CO. You can imagine my fright level at that point. Then this yahoo Hannity interviewed said that there is going to be an attack on America and that they're training here on our soil as we speak, and Hannity asks "Are you sure? My audience sheep need to know that they're in imminent danger or my ratings will go down!" At least that was my interpretation. Hannity, stop giving stupid un-thoughtful Christianists a platform!

The anti-jihad movement will never die, at most it will go into hibernation until it sorts itself out. Radical Islam is so repulsive and destructive that it's only a matter of time before the unlikeliest of allies form to destroy it.

Remember that it wasn't until Hitler invaded the USSR that most leftists supported the struggle against Nazism. Jihadism, like Nazism, is incapable of peacefully coexisting with the civilized world. Eventually they will carry out an atrocity so beyond the pale that the likes of Spencer and Coulter will no longer be necessary.

Until then, we may just have to clean house and keep our heads down.

Hagman is the guy behind the Northeast Intelligence Network, the premier scaremongering site on the web, batting absolute zero in the credibility department.

Maybe I'm misremembering it but wasn't it Northeast Intelligence Network that smoked out some guys planning terrorist activity on some website? I recall it was a woman who poses as sympathetic militant on various boards and forums. Maybe I'm getting her activities confused with Northeast Intelligence Network?

This is the line that reveals much, moral equivalency, for one:

As if undemocratic states need the US as a crutch for their "abuses."

Here's the best summary of facts on JuF that I know of, SATP is pretty reliable when it comes to Pakistani terror groups, or those influenced by Pakistani groups. Remember that we know that JuF did not behead Daniel Pearl, but JuF's leader is in jail because that's who he was going to meet when he got kidanapped by Saeed Sheikh.

Lizards should bookmark the SATP site, it's good reference. Remember the intel is mostly from Indian analysts so there is a slant to it, if you take that into account as a filter you can adjust analysis to objective where there is speculation instead of fact.

In July 2002, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British national of Pakistani origin, was sentenced to death by hanging for Pearl's abduction and murder.[3][4]

In March 2007, at a closed military hearing in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed said that he had personally beheaded Pearl.[5][6]

285 Gus  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 8:59:45pm

Let's see. Regarding Islamberg. They work with the Muslim Scouts of America (boy scouts); the received a letter of appreciation from an FBI agent; no indication of terrorist groups connections from State or the FBI.

They've been around for 20 years and I think if there was any suspicious activity that by now the authorities would have been on the case. For the most part all I see is women, middle aged men, young clerics.

286 Throbert McGee  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 8:59:54pm

Oh, nertz -- when I saw the "CAN" acronym, for a minute I got it confused with that over-the-top Christian movie review site that rates movies according to a really contrived scale spelling out WISDOM:

Wanton violence / crime
Impudence / hate
Sex / homosexuality
Drugs / alcohol
Offense to God
Murder / suicide

...according to which metric, South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut earned a worse score than Natural Born Killers. Partly because SP:BLU features "131 uses of the most foul of the foul words by children" (Impudence) along with one instance of "igniting anal wind then being incinerated." (Wanton violence)

But anyway, it turns out that was "CAP," not "CAN."

Expect it to show up on lefty sites soon. Mawyer is a raving Falwell fanatic, and they're going to have a field day with this.

He tried to push that years old "Jamaat al-Fuqra" story that seems to have originated at Gates of Vienna - terror training camps, WMD, etc.

Here's one failed terror training camp.

U.S. complaint details failed plan for terrorist training in Oregon

A federal complaint unsealed yesterday offers new details into a failed plan to set up a jihad terrorist training camp outside Bly, Ore.

The complaint, filed June 20, charges British citizen Haroon Rashid Aswat, with offering material support to terrorists, knowing his efforts would be used to "kill, kidnap and maim persons and damage property in a foreign country."

The camp was initially promoted by James Ujaama, a former Seattle resident who was sentenced to two years in federal prison in return for his cooperation with federal investigators.

Well, I am not a troll, but I feel frustrated trying to understand this thread. So I did down ding some comments that seemed mean and added to the confusion and up ding comments that helped me understand.

I think I down dinged Walter Newton because he kept trying to pick a fight with the fundamentalist guy.

Is that OK to down ding people who keep saying things like "Chicken shit" and "Fuck that" and picking fights with each other?

This happens to me a lot trying to learn from reading the threads here. I love the posts and there is interesting material in the threads. But there is a lot of what I would call chatter and confusing cross talk.

I don't know if you saw my post asking you about some information in that last link that came from The Tennessean.

The quotes from the Tennesseean don't back up any of this alarmism.

The Stewart County Muslims refused to discuss with The Tennessean any links between their village and other Muslims of the Americas sites in the United States. Nor would they discuss Gilani or the Pearl kidnapping.

The general manager of the local newspaper points out that the group had an open community meeting last year specifically to allay fears that Stewart Countians might have had about Islam and the Muslims in their midst, especially in light of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

[...] "We've had no trouble with them whatsoever,'' said Sheriff John Vinson.

And on topic, this guy is really creepy. It is really important to emphasize how very extremely creepy and bad this man is.

He calls himself a Christian, that doesn't mean he is a good Christian. He obviously is breaking the spirit and letter of the law that should be, but isn't, written in his heart by the Holy Spirit. I hate to say that about anyone, but it is unavoidable in this case, and it is necessary.

Just think - Jesus in effect broke many of the laws of his time when he entered the home of a tax collector, sat and talked with sinners, was more than willing to talk to and help them - to protect them.

Jesus' model of behavoir is the polar opposite of the behavior this so-called Christian is exhibiting. To me, even if you are very orthodox about such things as homosexuality, it is hate the sin but love the sinner. Also, this creep has totally thrown out the window judge not, lest you be judged.

Kinda hard to have much respect for the SPL when they have the Daily Kos linked on their blogroll.

I spent some time looking through their site and noticed that they have several of what I consider to be fairly innocuous organizations categorized as "hate sites," such as groups concerned with immigration reform.

So basically if you say "Screw them" to your fellow Americans being murdered and mutilated on foreign soil like Markos did you're some sort of noble, anti-hate champion, but if you suggest it might be in America's interest to decrease illegal immigration levels you're a bigot.

Got it..

Hannity's show, when it was good, which was for most of the past ten years, was good because of the guests. Rush's show, is good because of Rush. So happens I haven't been able to listen to either of them much since the election but the little I've heard of Hannity is, he's way off his previous game. I never could watch the tv show, too many ads - also a property of his radio show, actually, must have 2x the ads of Rush.

And if he's keeping on Buchanan, and reaching out further to wingnuts, well, been nice knowing you, Sean.

405 Charles Johnson  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 9:29:57pm

re: #382 realwest

Um, who the hell is Hal Turner?

Hal Turner, white supremacist.

Note the connection to Sean Hannity. And Pat Buchanan, another friend of Sean Hannity.

Identifying himself as "Hal from North Bergen", Turner became notable in American conservative circles as a frequent caller to WABC radio talk shows hosted by Bob Grant and Sean Hannity.[4] Turner parlayed this fame into a role as the northern New Jersey coordinator for Patrick J. Buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign. He went on to serve as campaign manager for Libertarian Party candidate Murray Sabrin in New Jersey in the 1990s, including a 1997 gubernatorial campaign.[5]

Turner reportedly established a friendship with Sean Hannity, on whose program he was a frequent presence.[4] However, when confronted by the New Black Panther Party's Malik Zulu Shabazz about his association with Turner (in light of Hannity's scrutiny of Barack Obama's association with Jeremiah Wright), Hannity at first denied knowing Turner, then said he had banned Turner from his radio station, and that he never supported Turner's views. Turner subsequently posted this response on his website: "I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn't know me. In fact, Sean does know me and we were quite friendly a few years ago."

Looks like others have been taken in by the old stories about Jamaat al-Fuqra.

From CPT dossier of 2005

Members own government-contracted security agencies. Through twenty-five years of existence, followers have planned and executed dozens of faith-based firebombings and assassinations. One member was convicted of plotting with the first World Trade Center bombers. Other adherents are employed in toll booths and kiosks at sensitive New York City landmarks. On multiple occasions members have defrauded state governments of
millions of dollars and sent the proceeds to finance terrorist operations abroad. Firing ranges, gun smuggling, and an aircraft landing strip are the norm in the thirty-some isolated rural compounds throughout North America. The group is Jamaat al-Fuqra, (“Community of the Impoverished”) and it has been left off of the State Department’s annual Patterns of Global Terrorism since 1999.1 Vice Admiral Lowell E. Jacoby, Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, delivers his annual testimony on current and
projected threats to the United States without mentioning the group.2 A Professor at New York University argues al-Fuqra’s non-profit fronts should be freed of government interference.3 Overshadowed by a world of al-Qaeda and weapons of mass destruction, Jamaat al-Fuqra may be the best positioned group to launch an assault on the United States, or more likely, help al-Qaeda to do so.

It's a longish read, but interesting.

Turner reportedly established a friendship with Sean Hannity, on whose program he was a frequent presence. However, when confronted by the New Black Panther Party's Malik Zulu Shabazz about his association with Turner (in light of Hannity's scrutiny of Barack Obama's association with Jeremiah Wright), Hannity at first denied knowing Turner, then said he had banned Turner from his radio station, and that he never supported Turner's views. Turner subsequently posted this response on his website: "I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn't know me. In fact, Sean does know me and we were quite friendly a few years ago."

I know it's Wiki, but still -- wow.

It is truly amazing that Sean Hannity is "speaking" for the Right. How did we let this happen? The guy is a class A Tool. He has no original thought, he repeats what the Heritage Foundation faxes to him, and his radio show is an F'ing train wreck! I listen to his radio show because it is so awful....and what is this "great American" B.S.? GOD what a tool!
He is an embarrassment.

Please pardon me for being in deep tactics mode. The Archbishop reference made me think of this. I have to ask, what is your impression of the typical man on the street's opinion of the Jihadis, Sharia Law, life in Islamic nations?

I get the sense that the average American, while perhaps not frothing at the mouth at much of the Jihadi types or their apologists none the less has the general notion that it might not be fun to be a woman in Saudi Arabia or that there are a lot of "rage boys" out there who want us dead etc...

Obviously to counter the threat we need to get the average American sufficient information to draw the conclusions for themselves.

My Question... Do you think that if you to talking to someone they would be receptive to the facts or do you think that the battle is really uphill?

Turner is nuts.

On April 12, 2006, Turner had a physical altercation with Jaime Vazquez, a former Jersey City Deputy Mayor and member of the Jersey City Council who was the Jersey City Commissioner of Veterans Affairs at the time. The North Bergen Reporter quoted Turner as saying "(t)he illegal immigrants are breaking the law, and people like me should break the law as well by shooting them down." [Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

Jesus' model of behavior is the polar opposite of the behavior this so-called Christian is exhibiting. To me, even if you are very orthodox about such things as homosexuality, it is hate the sin but love the sinner.

I suspect his explanation would be that he's not hating and judging individual homosexuals as persons; rather, he's hating and judging the WORLDWIDE HOMOSEXUAL CONSPIRACY that spans the globe like a gigantic cocktopus -- er, octopus -- so that neither church nor schoolyard nor even musical theatre is safe from the hideous grasp of its testicles.

Well,

This IS possible, and perhaps if is true, that moderation like neutrality is nigh impossible, it is not totally surprising. If so, what is to be done?

the opposite of moderation like neutrality would be, I guess, extremism. That's something we ought to avoid. I loved Barry Goldwater if for no other reason than he was HONEST. But his famous line that Moderation in defense of Freedom is no virture nor is extremisim in defense of liberty a vice" was just wrong (and I'm sure I got that quote incorrectly - but the extremism part is iirc pretty much dead on. And that is one of the problems.

I don't have to agree with someone 100% to say they speak for me or I'd be my own spokesperson. Who the fuck speaks for the Left? Obama? Wright? Ayers? Pelosi? Reid?
As I see it, the Republicans got their asses handed to them for a number of reasons this past November but the three biggest reasons were a) Obama's never ending supply of money b) the MSM never even so much as asking him a tough question nor requiring he disclose, for example, his medical records instead of just a doctor's one page letter and c) the economy.
But whatever the reason we did get our asses handed to us and we have to regroup and focus on what are or should be our core values and throw them out to the American people.

I should hope so. I received a forwarded letter from the IRS addressed to my Dad telling him that he owed $74.34 in taxes plus interest. However, my Dad was dead the entire year and had no income, for obvious reasons. It took me almost 9 months to get the matter resolved (phone calls, letters, certified letter) with the IRS. It was a nightmare.

Isn't that the truth! :)

As a fellow newb, my advise for newbs is to be very, very clear in what you are communicating. Reread what you write before you post; if it doesn't read clearly, do not assume everyone will be able to figure out your points, especially if you are including subtle humor that could be misconstrued in multiple ways. Nobody knows us here, so they won't know which way to lean when trying to decipher what we write.

Also, don't take dings personal. For newbs it is more like the mother lion whacking the cub to stay away from a dumb action. Believe me, I have the bruised karma from a couple of initial comments that were rather poor in communication. I have tried to fix that rather quickly. The Case of the Hillary Clinton Lesbian Rumor

...A few weeks after the press conference, CAN President Martin Mawyer sent an open letter to Mrs. Clinton (which was also delivered to news organizations at the same time) in which he asked her to reveal her sexual orientation and whether she planned to leave her husband if she won a seat in the U.S. Senate. Among other things, the group demanded the names of lesbians who had visited Camp David or stayed in the Lincoln bedroom at the White House. Not surprising, given CAN's hostile relations with the Clintons or the nature of the charges, there was no response from the First Lady or her campaign staff.

re: #552 Scion9
Well I suppose it's how you read it. If we were to commit genocide against Islam (forget about the fact that we really couldn't do it) as a means to protecting Liberty, would that be an example of Extremism in the defense of liberty and would you support it (caution here; Charles REALLY FROWNS on folks who call for genocide)? Or, on a less dramatic scale, if some folks with some power were to decide that we should no longer have civil liberties as granted under the Bill of Rights (and I don't mean haggling over the meaning of certain parts of the Bill of Rights) and could take those civil liberties away in order to have a more orderly society, would you support that?
I know - or at least strongly believe that Barry Goldwater wouldn't have stood for either one of those examples. It's simply a question of can extremism in the defense of liberty be appropriate?
I am, for example, extremely prejudiced against Fascists, but don't think I have the right to murder them simply because they are Fascists ( I take it as a truism that fascists are against liberty).
And since I have to go to sleep shortly, I won't debate it with you (at least not tonight).

I don't feel like getting into an argument with you guys, because I agree on principle: yes, Hannity should have done due diligence and researched his source before he brought him on. However, a couple things stand out in my mind:

1. Re: Hal Turner claiming to be a friend of Hannity's. I Google'd it, and found a lot of liberal blogs talking about it, but not a lot of unbiased evidence. Why are we assuming that Turner is telling the truth? If his credibility is so low in other areas, why is his credibility so high when it comes to people he claims to be "pallin' around" with?

2. Re: CPAC. How many people here have actually gone there? I have gone *expecting the down-ding already*, and maybe I'm just not going to the right speakers, but last year, Michelle Malkin, Newt Gingrich, D'Souza, etc. were the main speakers. A lot of the speeches are simultaneous, or at least overlapping, in different rooms. Do I think Buchanan should be there? No. Do I think Ron Paul should be there? No. Should Huckabee be there? Debatable. But if we're tarring the entire franchise because of a few bad apples, then Malkin, Miloy, Morrissey, TownHall.com, etc. are all being tossed out. Instead of disowning entire swaths of the political right because members of the fringe exist, why not disown the fringe and keep the sane ones?

3. This is probably going to raise some rackles, but my first thought when I read this was: bump bump another one gets thrown under the bus. I agree it's good to point out that Hannity used a bad source, but to imply that Hannity agrees with everything CAP says and he should be shunned for having a bad source on his show, and make an issue of his personal religious beliefs that are different from some of yours, that's a liberal tactic. We're better than that.

I know I'm probably going to be tarred and feathered, accused of apologizing for/supporting Nazism, etc. However, those of you who know me who that I'm not that way, and I have nothing to fear. Flame away.

re: #131 Charles

Hagman is the guy behind the Northeast Intelligence Network, the premier scaremongering site on the web, batting absolute zero in the credibility department.

re: #142 Charles

This story was heavily promoted by Gates of Vienna, and it marks the time when I began to realize something wasn't right about them.

Charles, please pardon the links, but I came across an article by Hagman
Binghamton, NY: Eyes Wide Shut in which he mentioned:
"Furthermore, I have been the subject of a delusional diatribe by Gilani himself, who bills himself as the "sixth Sultan ul-Fuqra," and a direct descendant of Muhammad."

That link points to an article at the International Quranic Open University and Muslims of the Americas Inc. website:
Exposing Roots of Terrorism In U.S.

On the 12th of February, a so-called ‘interim investigative report’ by an unknown private individual who called himself ‘CP’ investigator and Douglas J. Hagmann , with the internet address, [Link: www.homelandsecurityus.com,...] was released. This highly questionable report about Muslims of the Americas (MOA), their town Islamberg, NY, the International Quranic Open University (IQOU), and the Vice Chancellor of IQOU, is a small part of a campaign of hate, fabricated falsehood, lies, and appalling propaganda aimed at bringing about a clash between Muslims and Christians the world over, and particularly in the United States (U.S.) As the Imam of the Muslims of the Americas and Vice Chancellor of IQOU, I take this opportunity to expose this recurring scheme of deception and falsehood conjured up by vested interests.
The compilers of this report, CP/Hagmann, assert the claim of the existence of an alleged “Jamaat-ul-Fuqra”, placing me as its head. For the past 25 years I, and the members of MOA, and the staff of IQOU at Islamberg, have adamantly denied knowledge of any such organization in the U.S., Pakistan, or elsewhere.
In order to uphold and sustain one lie, one has to use hundreds of arguments. In this regard I am going to prove that Douglas J. Hagman and his group are the actual perpetrators of international terrorism, and racial and religious bigotry and their ceaseless campaign of hate, is more damaging to the U.S. than any other country. The U.S. has become a pawn of hidden hands that use America’s wealth and the innocent blood of their sons and daughters to wage their wars against Muslims.
[snip]

(Emphasis added.) This article attacks Douglas Hagman's credibility also.

So I respectfully ask, are you quite sure you are right in this matter?

604 wordsworth  Mon, Feb 16, 2009 11:18:28pm

Hannity lacks sophistication, he's naive, and while he means well, and his heart is in the right place, I don't think he always "get's it". He's too impressionable. That said, he has an ability to articulate a certain perspective like few others, and address things head on. Less so on his TV program though.

There really isn't a figurehead to the anti-Jihad movement, or claims that this guest represented that. If Hannity wants to sound like Art Bell, and bring on every guest who can talk about sleeper cells instead of space aliens, then oh well. It's like reading about AIDS vaccine experiments... you get excited over an article, and never hear about them again, like they never happened. After a while, the public will tire of false reports and turn away from the source. Worldnetdaily, and Debka are too casualties of such reporting. I do worry that the climate is towards divisive concerns at a time when we need to focus on sneaky Obama instead. I'd hate to see Rush devotees at odds with Hannity devotees at odd with the LGF community, etc.... but I do appreciate knowing who this guy was, Charles. I saw the interview and it wasn't very convincing anyway. Now I know why.

It's a fact that Turner was a guest on Hannity's show many times.

2. Re: CPAC. How many people here have actually gone there? Let's see: Ann Coulter, who makes excuses for white supremacists. Ron Paul, who ran a newsletter full of racist hatred, and is completely nuts. Mike Huckabee, who wants to amend the Constitution to bring it "in line with God's law." Pat Buchanan and his sister. Oh yeah, I really want to hang with those people.

I've been skeptical of information sources ever since 1964, altho not always diligently. (A HS girlfriend was allegedly Armenian and Christian, our world history teacher, Turkish. My intro to islam was death threats from her brother unless I converted. And not just me. My family, too.)

Since the first appearance of any stories about Jamaat ul Fuqra and Islamberg, I've spent many hours looking into the background of this Gilani guy. His father, I believe, partnered with Haaj Amin al-Husseini to overthrow British rule in Iraq in '41, then both men supported the 3rd reich in Europe. Both died in Beruit.

I'm less familiar with Hagman's background and career.

Perhaps if we conservatives had been paying attention and policing our own better, instead of just pointing fingers at the other side and patting ourselves on the back that we're not as bad as them, we wouldn't have to be doing this major house-cleaning. We don't need these people as allies when at their very core they are the antithesis of conservative principles.

Do we not stand for freedom and equality? If a 'conservative' makes common cause with racists, isn't that an antithesis?

Do we not stand for justice? How can we find common cause with those who call for mass deportations, or internments, or any other method of taking away liberty from fellow American citizens? Can we not continue to wrap our minds around the fact that it is only some, and not all and not react in an extreme way?

Those are just two issues that the people you have mentioned have failed in adhering to conservative principles, but perhaps I am the one who misunderstands what being a conservative means?

LEGION, if you think all homosexuals engage themselves in the sort of hedonism that goes on during the Folsom Street Fair, you need a reality check. I love me some Zombie and his work is important, but for you to misconstrue his reporting on the FSF as indicative of the manner in which all GLBT people conduct themselves is completely illogical.

There are plenty of us gay folk who love Guns, God and Country, but do we make the headlines? Umm, no. Why? Because an expose on me washing my truck, going fishin for crappie, or meeting friends out for dinner isn't exactly newsworthy...unless we're declaring ourselves servants of the dark god, clad in leather, beating one another with whips and passing out membership cards for Nambla...while taking the Lord's name in vain.

re: #153 Salamantis

The major difference between Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson is that Robertson's still around. And he and Jerry Both condemned America TOGETHER, on Pat's show, immediately after 9-11. And said that we deserved it, and that God let it happen, because we refused to embrace their fundamentalist sexism and homophobia.

They were the flip side of Ward Chuchhill.

Forgive me for giving Robertson and Falwell the benefit of the doubt here, BUT didn't they eventually apologize for what they said? I remember President Bush slam dunking them pretty hard after those idiotic statements. Then I do recall Falwell recanting his statement and then saying that you couldn't blame those groups or any others for ANY terrorist attack. But I may not have the full or accurate story. BUT I know for a fact that Ward Churchill has NEVER apologized for calling the 9/11 victims "little Eichmanns". The bastard!

But blaming the 9/11 attacks on homosexuals, atheists, secular groups etc., really is just as crazy has blaming America for the 9/11 attacks because of our support for Israel, or our policies on the middle east or our military presence in foreign countries, etc., etc. It's a tactic the leftists use. Falwell and Robertson should have thought of that before making those crazy remarks.

The people responsible for the 9/11 attacks were the people who actually carried them out, the Islamic terrorists! It was their choice and nobody made them do it! So why do people over-analyze the event?

Yes, they apologized for this, and then went on to make other statements equally as disgusting and vile; for example, after the Dover creationism trial, when the creationist school board members were voted out of office, Robertson said:

I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God -- you just rejected Him from your city. And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there.

Don't be hatin' on the Hannity. Yes, he can be a dork sometimes but he has done a lot of good for our troops and their families with his series of Freedom Concert charity fundraisers benefiting the Freedom Alliance scholarship fund for the children of servicemembers wounded or KIA, and he was one of the few people on TV to point out Obama's connection to Bill Ayers and call him out on it.

Robertson and Falwell only apologized when they were publicly shamed into doing so by an outraged nation. Had that not happened, they would never have recanted. So I question the sincerity of their retraction.

Hannity ain't nothing but a shill for these types . Maybe he oughta think about selecting his "guests " ...oh wait ! "think " ?
Sadly , the ole' Moral Majority makes up a good part of the Republican voter base , and yes they DO believe rumors , any rumors , especially when it comes to ANYONE who dont hold their narrow view .

For all you youngsters out there , the "moral majority " grew out of , for the most part , Nixon's Silent Majority , and they were folks [ mostly republicans ] who believed if you were out of step , you were a "Liberal " [ code-word for Democrat ] and thus a commie traitor .
Change that commie to socialist and you've got the same old mentality .

These are the same folks that enable and are enabled by Republicans , and the republicans HAVE to buy the whole package , fron abortion to creation . And "other obviously obtuse issues " .
The sad thing is , in time there will most assuredly be weapons of mass destruction , either smuggled or produced by the enemy - "misunderstanders of islam" , and they will most likely be biological weapons . But when you have fools ringing the warning bells , it kinda clouds the issue . Makes it harder for the true Sentinels to get the message across . Good Luck with that .

huh if they ever really were a threat?

WTC 1 bombing doesn't qualify as a threat, wasn't one of their people involved? Jamaat al Fuqra US is as bad as it gets IMO.

As far as FBI that is still hanging around with CAIR -dealing with it, I'd like to see anything showing that to be true.

...and Sharmuta , since you did miss the point and made your own , what about " hostages resisting " ?

do you mean like this : [right under GW's nose ,and did NOTHING]

A former FBI special agent sounds the alarm about the stealth jihad. The Muslim Brotherhood is dedicated in its own words to "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

"Islamic subversion alleged by speaker," by Brian Mosely for the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, February 17

A former FBI special agent told law enforcement and Homeland Security personnel that a network of Islamic organizations are working to incrementally implement Islamic law in the United States.
During a presentation at the Bedford County Emergency Management Agency, former FBI agent John Guandolo briefed members about groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, which he claims is working with other Islamic groups to slowly implement Shariah, also known as Islamic law, which encompasses all areas of life.

Guandolo worked in the FBI since 1996, including nine years as a member of its SWAT team. After 9/11, he worked in the Bureau's Washington Field Office's Counterterrorism Division, developing expertise concerning Al Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood organizations and the Islamic movement in the U.S.

He now works with Stephen Coughlin, former Islamic Expert for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to advise leaders at the federal level and also brief local law enforcement about the Islamic threat at home.

Coughlin was fired from his position with the Joint Chiefs following a report revealing opposition to his work by officials within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, according to a Washington Times report dated Jan. 4, 2008.

Coughlin had run afoul of a key aide to England, Hasham Islam, who accused him of being a Christian zealot or extremist "with a pen," according to defense officials, the report states.

The hostages are the fiscal conservatives and the foreign policy constitutional democracy spreaders, and they're being held hostage by RR socons, and their anti-abortion, anti-science, anti-gay litmus tests. Which is why centrists and moderates won't vote Repub on a dare, and why Repubs as a party are now consigned to the electoral hinterlands.

Two of the arrested men, Khidr Ali and Glenn Neville Ford are from Toronto, Canada and Caba Jose Harris, Robert Junior Wesley and Tyron Junior Cole are from Texas. Among the documents in the possession of the men were "detailed aerial photographs and floor plans of the two sites," and included assignments for a "recon team," a "hit team" and a "guard team." One part of the overall plan was to enter one of the buildings through a men's restroom window, and another part of the plan suggested that a woman member of the group should plant a bomb in the women's restroom of the building. March 4, 1992 - The New York City Department of Investigation issues a memorandum condemning an unauthorized, covert investigation carried out by law enforcement officers near an Islamic compound. The memo says the officers' actions were based on "irrational fears". We now know this location to be the US headquarters of Jamaat ul-Fuqra. One year after this report, the World Trade Center was attacked. Several members of Fuqra were caught mixing explosives in a related plot and charged in the conspiracy. They had been reportedly been trained at the compound in question.

October 8, 1992: Al-Fuqra Compound, near Buena Vista, Colorado - An arsenal of attack weapons is discovered in a search of a remote compound run by members of the Al-Fuqra sect. Masoud Shaheed) reportedly offered to obtain pipe bombs from a person he described as "a friend of 'Rashid"' (i.e., Clement Rodney Hampton-El). After Hampton-El's arrest in June, Holder lost hope of obtaining the pipe bombs, saying that "Rashid's" arrest cancelled the possibility of securing them.
