Jailhouse Islam Behind Cop Killings in Philadelphia?

A disturbing story from Philadelphia: Police Investigate Whether Jailhouse Islam Could Be Behind Cop Killings.

PHILADELPHIA - The fact that Rasheed Scrugs allegedly announced he was going to kill a cop and then shot Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski with a gun hidden inside his coat pocket has detectives digging deeper on Scrugs.

They’re still gathering evidence and trying to unravel why Friday night’s senseless murder happened, Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser reported. “Pawlowski didn’t stand a chance,” Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Monday, as Philadelphia continued to reel over the killing.

A key witness went public Monday with the chilling words he heard the gunman say before the shooting. “If you call the cop, I’ll kill you and kill the cop,” said Manuel Dias, who works in a newsstand at Broad Street and Olney Avenue, repeating what he told detectives. …

Scrugs was shot by Pawlowski’s partner and another officer. He’s now awake and talking, but he refused to be interviewed by homicide detectives. Sources say Scrugs told a hospital staffer he was high on drugs at the time of the shooting and allegedly said, “I can’t believe I shot a cop.” …

Ramsey told Fox 29 News that police are now trying to determine if Scrugs — who also goes by the alias Rasheed Abdulghaffer — may have converted to a radical form of “jailhouse Islam” during his years in prison.

Ironically, Ramsey said he was briefed by FBI agents on Friday about this radical form of Islam. That was just hours before Pawlowski was shot. Ramsey said there’s a growing concern among law enforcement. “This is a radical form where certainly committing crime and killing police officers and so forth is part of it,” Ramsey said.

Police experts and the FBI are now researching whether Scrugs and Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski’ accused killers — Howard Cain and Levon Warner, who are accused of wearing Muslim clothing during that murder — were schooled in jailhouse Islam.

“Since Steve Liczbinski got killed, this issue has really been something that has struck home here in Philadelphia,” Ramsey said.

I had a friend who was doing Christian prison ministry up until about 10 years ago. When he moved on he told me that Islam was making major in-roads with the prisoners and was seeing a lot of converts. It doesn't take much to take a man already prone to violence and turn him on to an ideology that tells him his violence is a good thing and will be rewarded by god.

18 calvin coolidge  Wed, Feb 18, 2009 8:59:41am

Scrugs — who also goes by the alias Rasheed Abdulghaffer said he actually likes the name Scrugs better because it was easier to spell.

19 Last Mohican  Wed, Feb 18, 2009 8:59:53am

Some weeks ago, I posted a link to an article about how many prison inmates were converting to Islam while behind bars. It was a large number, something like 10% or more. I can't find the story now. Anyone remember where it was?

20 Ford_Prefect  Wed, Feb 18, 2009 9:00:19am

There are a lot of disturbing things about this article, but I find this particularly so:

A key witness went public Monday with the chilling words he heard the gunman say before the shooting. “If you call the cop, I’ll kill you and kill the cop,” said Manuel Dias, who works in a newsstand at Broad Street and Olney Avenue, repeating what he told detectives.

If there is some kind of organized movement here what are this guys chances of ever making it to testify? He should not be coming out publicly and the news should not be telling people where he works.

This is a senseless murder of a law enforcement officer and a sad way for an excuse to develop investigation concerns for Jailhouse corruption for Islamic fascists.
I am relieved to know that the FBI is further investigating the connections to Jailhouse Islam. Better late than never.
Jails are brooding houses for hate and information access to Islamic fascism and to networking resources, both in the house and later when they are released back into the public.

You'd think they were reporting on President Bush on one of his surprise visits to Iraq.

"He'll be on the tarmac at exactly 1:05 P.M. This area is way open and uncluttered with many high vantage points to watch him step out of the plane. Our anonymous sources tell us he will only have a small detachment guarding him. He will only be here for only a few hours so any body watching this broadcast better be moving quickly..uh..the President may sign some autographs...uh..back to you Wolf."

I have read a few articles about Islam in American prisons. Unfortunately none recently, or I'd provide a link.

Apparently, responsibility for vetting and training all of the Islamic chaplains in the entire American prison system has been contracted out to some radical Saudi Wahabist group that advocates murdering nonbelievers, beating women into submission, and all the other charming behavior that we've come to expect from our friends the Saudis.

Is that a good idea?

There is no clue they would accept. To look at the clue would be to question their own belief that "social justice" and disarmament are the answer to the problem. What is needed are candidates for city office who do not beleive that and can effectively get their message out.

It doesn't take much to take a man already prone to violence and turn him on to an ideology that tells him his violence is a good thing and will be rewarded by god.

It is the violence and more. There is the whole supremacy angle, being told they are superior to women and all infidels. Without any effort, they are over halfway up this new "society's" scale, whereas they've always been losers in the their former society. And with Nation Of Islam, which jailhouse Islam often is, there is also the racial bigotry angle. NOI teaches that blacks are genetically superior, and that white people were created by a black scientist.

That's right, President Obama. Transfer as many of the Gitmo 'detainees' you want into the American prison system...they'll have plenty of American criminal radical Islamic converts to help mold for the future...think about the prospects....criminality for pay for the RoP against America...wow, the possibilities are mind boggling!

But, then again nothing excites the far left more domestically than a good cop killing. The cottage tee-shirt industry alone will be breath taking...Obama on the front and a murdering radical RoPer in need of 'freeing' on the back, now that's almost as rich as all these dumb ass kids on American Idol this season wearing the Arafat scarf or as my daughter says, "Dad, it's just a fashion statement." And, so was the Red Star on Ayers shirt seen back during the election and Che's picture on the walls of some of Obama's campaign headquarters. And, so will the tee-shirts be. Yep, he won.

Disgusting!

re: #56 Last Mohican

I have read a few articles about Islam in American prisons. Unfortunately none recently, or I'd provide a link.

Apparently, responsibility for vetting and training all of the Islamic chaplains in the entire American prison system has been contracted out to some radical Saudi Wahabist group that advocates murdering nonbelievers, beating women into submission, and all the other charming behavior that we've come to expect from our friends the Saudis.

Is that a good idea?

Obviously not. There is so much fail in this. For one thing, how does one group get to do this for the ENTIRE prison system? Are we talking federal and state? And who certifies a group for this sort of thing? Does the pro-Saudi bias in the State Department have anything to do with it?

It's probably completely unrelated, but I think the FBI severing ties with CAIR is a good first step in government agencies becoming more astute about the agenda of certain Islamic groups. Not holding my breath, of course.

That could be the word choice of the writer.
No one says, "I saw it all and I accuse them of wearing Islamic clothing." No, they likely said, "They were dressed like Muslims."

Maybe another witness disagreed, thus the writer was trying to capture the fact that they have been said to be in Muslim clothing but we aren't sure yet.

Either way, poor word choice.

Where's Wyatt Earp? IIRC, he's rather close to this as he is from Philly. I'm curious as to his take because of that.

Sorry, work beckoned. Yes, we've heard the stories, and to be honest, the city has been rather slow on the uptake. Go figure. Now after John's murder, they seem to be more interested.

The fact of the matter is that these people need to be under constant surveillance while in prison, because that is where this is originating. I mean, these thugs hated us already, but now they are getting more organized. From my perspective, that is not good. It is not good at all.

Police shot the perp 5 times, but the guy was wearing a bullet proof vest.

I can't figure out why cops aren't trained in the old Mozambique drill. We keep seeing cops put at risk when they encounter perpetrators wearing body armor, but the training doesn't change. I guess head shots are just too politically incorrect.

I guess city officials figure it's better to let officers die.

But Philly is a hard core Democrat City. The idiot mayor, Nutter, was on the radio saying we have to get guns off the street.

If Scrugs had served "years in prison", he was barred by federal law from even possessing a firearm. I think it's an automatic five-year federal bit.

Some localities aggressively target firearms possession by convicted felons, and the criminal elements in those localities disarm in a hurry. Apparently Philadelphia's politicians would rather go after law-abiding gun owners than the criminals.

I live in the Philly news area. Here’s a revealing twist on the latest Philly cop killing. A municipal court judge thinks a memorial for the dead cop creates a “bias.” The memorial is in the police district (precinct) where the fallen officer served, in a common room also used for localized court arraignments. When the precinct commander refused the judge’s request to remove the memorial when he used the room as a courtroom, the judge personally turned the fallen cop’s photo in the memorial display face down.
LINK

This attitude, that the police represent some sort of malign force in the community - that it is legitimate to stigmatize and oppose the police, that those who oppose them have a legitimate position worthy of official recognition, is also at the root of the violence against police. Not surprisingly, a community-wide refusal to cooperate with police in fingering known neighborhood criminals is also widespread.

141 roguejew  Wed, Feb 18, 2009 11:28:38am

I was a corrections officer for over ten years in Michigan at the Michigan Reformatory. We had The Melanic Islamic Palace of the Rising Sun, The Nation of Islam, and the Moorish Americans...All Black Nationalist Muslim groups. I had to sit in on their services many times. Hate and anti administration rhetoric was the typical "Sermon" given on what we officers labled "Hate Friday". I myself was the target of a hit as well as many of my former co-workers. Our Administration never deemed the targeted violence a threat and we usually had to rely on informants or friends in high places to keep us informed if we were targeted by any of the members of the "Religion of Peices".

Our Chaplain was ambushed twice by members of the Nation of Islam inside the chapel. Thank G-d he was a body builder, he left more victims in his wake defending himself then they tried to create.

major note, is that all of these prison muslim groups were in one way or another in cahoots with a street gang. In Michigan prisons, it was ususally the Chicago street gangs,(see the connection here) The Black Gansta Disciple Nation or the Vice Lords being associated with the two main muslim groups, The NOI and the Moorish Americans.

I left Corrections over ten years ago for the Civillian life. Took two years to get my head on straight and sober up after leaving. 4 friends of mine commited suicide. The administration does nothing to help the Custody staff and does more to cater to the needs of the Muslim groups. Much like Europe's current policy.

146 Media_man  Thu, Feb 19, 2009 6:25:36pm

This shitbird who shot the cop last week had the full beard treatment & looked like a Muslim. Most of the 6 or 7 cops shot and killed in Philly in the past year were all shot by garden variety semi-retarded criminal types, all young black males with violent crime backgrounds. Not much of a Muslim angle, just black criminals killing white cops in the commission of a crime.

These turds are all poster children for the death penalty, but none of them ever get it. It's always life in prison, no parole. I say hang in a gibbett & let the crows peck out their eyes.
