ElBaradei on the Legitimacy of Arab Public Opinion
The United Nations’ blind, toothless nuclear “watchdog,” Mohamed ElBaradei, writes another ridiculous article for the International Herald Tribune, to point a finger at the “real reason” why Arab states want nuclear weapons: Israel.
The Middle East, home to the world’s most perilous and intractable conflict, will never be at peace until the Palestinian question is resolved. What compounds the problem is that the nuclear nonproliferation regime has lost its legitimacy in the eyes of Arab public opinion because of the perceived double-standards concerning Israel, the only state in the region outside the NPT and known to possess nuclear weapons.
Right, it’s that old “double standard” that really irks them.
Not the mere fact of Israel’s existence.
And in this whole piece, ElBaradei can’t spare a word to mention Iran’s nuclear ambitions, except to applaud the Obama administration for “pledging to engage in direct diplomacy.”
