During Financial Crisis, Obama Sends $1B to Gaza

US News • Views: 5,095

While the United States is in the midst of a serious financial crisis, the Obama administration is handing over another $1 billion to the Hamas-riddled United Nations Relief and Works Agency. It will be used for humanitarian purposes, of course, so that the Hamas “government” can spend all their money on bombs, weapons, and ammunition, instead of building a decent society for their children.

Yes -- especially when it's in the name of "restoring America's image in the world."

The money, which needs U.S. congressional approval, will be distributed through U.N. and other bodies and not via the militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza, said one official.

It has to be approved...make yourself heard loud and clear now or STFU.

A US congressman plans to brief fellow members of Congress and the Obama administration about his recent trip to Gaza, saying the US should pressure Israel regarding border closures and reassess its military support for the Jewish state.

And to think I tried to suggest that any money going to the Paliterrorists be subject to claims from Israel for compensation for terrorism.
Of course, I suggested this to Assad-kissing Kerry, and Kennedy, and to my representative Tsongas. (I think had Ogonowski won, he would have listened. Besides, I had met his campaign finance person at Chabad.)

I did get replies from Tsongas and Kennedy. Kerry is too busy kissing assad to reply. Both replies were pretty standard, probably written to satisfy anyone who wrote, but they did not at all address what I was saying.

Is it just me, or have the past few posts, barring Roddick's being a man and all, been particularly depressing? Obama's turning out to be ridiculously soft, and this whole new age left wing hippy-ism has already had such an impact. Not being an American, I didn't really get into the election too much, but McCain's age and Palin's je ne sais quoi (everything? Yeah, pretty much everything about her) ended up turning me off of them, so Obama seemed like the only reasonable choice. Oh, how mistaken I was.
I'm glad there's some people out there who don't have that starry eyed youthful innocence most of the Obama voters seem to have. Good on you, lizards.

Impeachment

In the United States, impeachment can occur both at the federal and state level. The Constitution defines impeachment at the federal level and limits impeachment to "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States" who may only be impeached and removed for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors

The last paragraph....

The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to America and the West in general.

I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us.

That goes straight to the core of the problem. The pro-democracy argument has been that by assuming the responsibility of gov't, Hamas or whoever, would be held accountable to the Palestinian people for schools, hospitals, roads, water etc.

BUT because all that is looked after by UNRWA and paid for by the EU, UN and know the US, the thugs are off the hook. They have no need to provide good government and the people have no cause to hold them accountable. Hamas is free to focus on their core competency: terror.

This financial support to UNRWA guarantees further war. There will be more dead Israelis and more dead Palestinians precisely because of this colossal mistake.

Just to toss some numbers around, if you throw that billion dollars in to a list of the top recipients of U.S. foreign aid in 2008, here's what you get for your top five:

1. Israel, $2.4 billion
2. Egypt, $1.7 billion
3. Hamas, $1 billion
4. Pakistan, $798 million
5. Jordan, $688 million

Any other questions about civics I can answer for you?

Yes, do you understand the context of high crimes and misdemeanors in politics? Impeachment, good bad or indifferent was designed to remove a politician from office who became a threat to the government or the nation or had It's not a civil process and it's not written to get rid of someone who snatches a snickers bar without paying for it. It was designed to overturn an election based on damage done to the office they hold.

One of the problems with the Clinton impeachment was that it was based on a charge no one gave a shit about. The public knew it was hypocritical to remove Clinton for lying under oath when it's a regular occurrence for politicians.

Any money going into Gaza props up Hamas. Works with the same with any humanitarian aid going into a Thugocracy.

Humanitarian aid is a short term feel good band aid. The gets starving children off the front page so the UN and bleeding heart liberals can feel can feel good about doing something.

Such aid only lets the regime redirect money into more thugishness. "Well gee whiz if America is going feed those SOB's I can buy more AKs." Gives the thugocracy a breather. It relives the internal tension caused by the humanitarian crisis, taken the burden off the regime. Usually the regime takes credit internally for the aid anyway.

While the patient has a major life threatening infection, we slap a humanitarian bandage on and feel good about it. It's the infection that needs to be treated, not the visible surface wound.

Furthermore, even if there were grounds, there is absolutely no political possibility that it would happen--and it is a bad idea wholly on its own, as it plays hell with the political process.

Of course it's not going to happen. If we were in a different time perhaps people would be upset enough to put pressure on him to back off but unfortunately, there are far too many people with their hands outstretched waiting for loot and they really don't care about anything other than getting their "stuff". And yes, it does play hell with the political process and it pisses people off. But it's there for a very good reason; it just takes reaching a certain level of despair and destruction before it's supposed to be implemented.

Glad to hear the babies are thriving. About the other, shivers here as well.

The reason for me to freak is that at the very least, there was a pattern of violence and antisemitism over the ages, and from ghettos, purges, pograms and the like, from dhmmi status to star wearing non citizen, we Jews continued to put their faith in humanity for humanity's sake. . .even in this election, with all of the evidence to support the idea that this guy was going to hose us at first chance, Jews voted to "prove themselves loyal" to a government that will not be loyal back, in fact, we will be watching that government ride away from us in our time of need, and it will be as it always was. . .history will continue to repeat. . .and I am very scared about the futures of my children. . .their very lives. . .

This country is under no obligation to give any of our money to the UN to give to Gaza. This adminstration needs to understand the so-called "Middle East peace" is just a bumper sticker slogan.

Of course it does, as it's supposed to since its a political action. Johnson wouldn't have been impeached today, particularly if public support were behind him. There have been several Presidents would could have been impeached but the Congress wasn't stupid enough to try because of a lack of public support. It's really a last ditch "legal" way to get rid of someone everyone hates. That's why it was silly to move on President Clinton. There was no public will just as there wouldn't be a will to remove any President unless his actions caused grave distress to the entire congress and the vast majority of the population. Some day, there may well be a President who meets that criteria but it's going to have to be something a heck of a lot more serious than paying off terrorists and redistributing income.

We have to make noise and let them know that we are coming for them in 2010 ...we have to make noise so those who chose to ignore what we were trying to tell them will maybe "hear" this time ...

It's not satire, there's really only a few explanations:

1. She's gotten lazy and blog scrapes for material without any fact checking.
2. She knows exactly who CCC is, knows it would cause controversy and wants the publicity.
3. She's whitewashing for Haley Barbour's and others sakes. (who else has been to the Blackhawk Meetings? Ron Paul for one, who will also be speaking at CPAC.)

Satire is a real stretch considering in the rest of the book she seems to stay factual about conservatives and conservative groups.

re: #385 Charles

I assume you're talking about this section, plus the preceding text that won't fit:

Republicans Senator Trent Lott and Representative Bob Barr did nothing more than give speeches to the CCC, yet they were forever damned by their association with it. Neither man even belonged to the CCC, nor did they attend CCC meetings once a week for twenty years. They certainly didn’t have their daughters baptized by CCC activists.

...

After the initial flurry of articles, editorials, and news stories in the Times excitedly reporting that Barr had spoken to the CCC, Democratic representative Bob Wexler introduced a resolution in Congress for the sole purpose of denouncing the Council of Conservative Citizens. Other than the 9/11 terrorists, the CCC may be the only group ever singled out for denunciation in a congressional resolution. How about a resolution from Obama porn-porn girl Wexler on Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ?

When Barr later gave a speech on the House floor favorably citing President John F. Kennedy, Senator Ted Kennedy’s son, Representative Patrick Kennedy, got in Barr’s face, shouting, "How dare you! Anybody who has been to a racist group has no right invoking my uncle’s memory!’ Liberals are now reserving the right to tell us which former presidents we can mention by name.

Barr had given a speech to a group that, even assuming everything that the Southern Poverty Law Center says about it is true, does not hold a candle to the racism of Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama was married by the Reverend Wright, his daughters were baptized by the Reverend Wright, Obama gave his second autobiography the title of one of the Reverend Wright’s sermons. And yet after decades of majoring in Guilt by Association, liberals were indignant when an ad on cable television linked Obama and the Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr. The Times produced a blistering editorial decrying the "hate mongering" and calling the ads "the product of a radical fringe that has little regard for rational debate."

Liberals, who will attack with whatever is available because they have no principles, were also appalled by any attempt to link Obama to Bill Ayers. In an op-ed so clever she couldn’t stand herself, New York Times columnist Gail Collins wrote that if Obama was responsible for Ayers’s actions then she was responsible for the banking scandals of the eighties by virtue of the fact that savings-and-loan king Charles Keating had spoken at her high school thirty years earlier. Collins’s satirical chain of causation did not, however, apply to Republicans speaking to a group containing members who had be-longed to a segregationist group thirty years earlier, which, come to think of it, pretty much describes Collins’s connection to the banking scandals.

Can Trent Lott and Bob Barr get an apology now?

I'm sorry, that looks like satire to me.

I may not agree with it, but I'm always glad to hear someone else's opinion on something, even if I disagree with it. Debate is what makes this country great. And I certainly am grateful for everything he's done, from his pro-Israel stance to his pwnage of Dan Rather.

I'm just a little skeptical about using SPLC and HuffPo as my sources for moral guidance.

re: #463 Charles

I only excluded that paragraph because it only really talked about Dick Gephardt being a "preposterous boob", and other people had already quoted the preceding section.

But here's the rest of it if it makes you happy:

According to his devoted media claque, Obambi was a victim of "guilt by association" whenever anyone mentioned his two-decade association with a racist preacher or his ties to an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Being offended by "guilt by association" was another new posture for liberals, who heretofore had specialized in making guilt-by association charges.

Republican politicians who had given speeches to a conservative group, the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), were branded sympathizers of white supremacists because some of the directors of the CCC had, decades earlier, been leaders of a segregationist group, the Citizen Councils of America, which were founded in 1954. There is no evidence on its Web page that the modern incarnation of the CCC supports segregation, though its "Statement of Principles" offers that the organization opposes "forced integration" and "efforts to mix the races of mankind." But mostly the principles refer to subjects such as a strong national defense, the right to keep and bear arms, the traditional family, and an "America First" trade policy."

Apart from some aggressive reporting on black-on-white crimes—the very crimes that are aggressively hidden by the establishment media—there is little on the CCC website suggesting that the group is a "thinly veiled white supremacist" organization, as the New York Times calls it in one of its more charitable descriptions. At least the crimes reported on the CCC’s Web page actually happened, as opposed to the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s claim that the U.S. government invented AIDS to kill blacks.

... [Part that I already quoted]

But according to the establishment media, Lott and Barr were fully responsible for the decades-old affiliations of some of the directors of a group . . . because they spoke at the CCC. As the media’s hysteria about the CCC reached a fever pitch, a Times editorial howled about "fresh evidence of the persistence of racism" on the part of Lott based on his "links to the white separatist group called the Council of Conservative Citizens." The New York Times was shocked by the group’s "thinly veiled white supremacist agenda," but was somewhat more accepting of the completely unveiled racism of Obama’s preacher. One surmises that the CCC’s thin veil of white supremacy would have become a bit thicker had Democratic congressman Dick Gephardt ever been a serious candidate for president. In the 1970s, he had spoken to a branch of the related, but more outre, Citizen Councils of America. That, and the fact that he’s a preposterous boob, are probably the only two things that kept Dick Gephardt out of the White House.

Not really something I'd use to go on a major crime spree, though.

We both love his music, and had been trying to get tickets for years. I finally got them and surprised hubby with them. Well, weren't the Kennedy's there en masse that night, and didn't Mr. Bennett suck up to them mightily. I have never been so disappointed in my life. re: #471 Iron Fist

I hadn't seen it. Thanks. Yeah, it is no surprise that the Saiga would be on the list. After all, with the stroke of a pen Bill Clinton made three different types of "assault" shotguns destructive devices. Because, you know, you blow up buildings with a Stryker 12.

Widespread attempts at gun confiscation are one of the (relatively few) triggers that could turn the Cold Civil War hot. And it could do that very quickly, maybe literally overnight.

One big question is where would the Military and Police stand on the issue. If the Police refused to abide by it (say, arresting the Federals that try and enforce an Unconstitutional law) it might quickly fade into the night. If the Military decided to (or was ordered to) take a hand, things can go from bad to worse for whichever side is opposite where the Military comes down on the issue.

The military swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution "against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Gates would be the first to balk at an order to enforce a plainly un-Constitutional law.

At the local gun shop, there is a backlog of special orders that can't be filled at the moment because of the almost insane demand. Any shipment of handguns they get in are gone within two days. Weapons and ammunition seem to be the only consumer items that are moving at any volume.

Part of it, I think, is that everybody's stocking up while purchasing such items is still legal. I think a large part of it might be in preparation for Thomas Jefferson's concept about the Tree of Liberty requiring the blood of patriots and tyrants.

It's interesting, though, that the MSM has said next to nothing about this. I mean, you'd think that such a large part of the economy being solidly in the black would be good news, right?

My [best] answer would have to be that the inmates have taken over the asylum.

I agree with that, but, I will NEVER be ashamed of being American. The shame and the blame go to our lying, thieving elected officials. O has only been in office a month. Soon, he will be texting President Bush to find out how he kept his numbers so high.

I'm surprised. I only own one weapon on the list of those that would be explicitly banned: a Kel-Tec Sub 2000. It's kind of a nifty little gun. Folds in half, fits into a briefcase-sized carrying case, takes the same magazines as my Glocks.

Not really something I'd use to go on a major crime spree, though.

I'm sure they'll add my M1A to the list at some point.

Sigh.

Then we need to ensure that that list does not become law. We need to keep our side in line, and peel off some Dems (and on this issue it can be done, perhaps including Hillary's replacement in the Senate). Gun Bans can be stopped, but they have to be fought aggressively to do that.

I understand the disappointment, but I think it does say something very good about the American people that we have reached a point where we will elect a disappointing black candidate just as readily as a disappointing white candidate.

That said, this lifelong Democrat still can't stop pausing in the street every so often, screaming "HILLARY! OH GOD, HILLARY!" and bursting into tears, so I can hardly blame you for getting a little depressed.

Let's give them Illinois. Maybe it would be a mutual learning experience for the politicians there and Hamas. We might also throw in one of the American 'big three' car companies. If nothing else, they could get rid of the current inventory by shipping them to the middle east.
Of course, once Illinois is given to Hamas, the state would not be a part of the United States and couldn't share in any of the give-aways currently offered by the president.

US taxpayers don't just pay for the direct aid given to UNRWA, they also do so indirectly by giving a tax break for all the private donations.

Send your tax deductible donations to Hamas UNRWA here!

The Friends of UNRWA Association, Inc. is a 501c(3) organization. All donations to the Friends of UNRWA Association, Inc. are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his economics professor and says, "I don't understand this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?"
The professor replied, "I don't have any time to explain it at my office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my weekend project, I'll be glad to explain it to you." The student
agreed.
At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor's house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool.
They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with
as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed.
The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but did as he was told.
The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool.
The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing this?"
The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper.
The student didn't think the economics professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story soon enough.
However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, "All we're doing is
wasting valuable time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you'll really have accomplished is the destruction of what could have been truly productive action!"
The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, "Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill."

630 FrumiousFalafel  Mon, Feb 23, 2009 7:47:16pm

This article referenced by this URL at the Wall Street Journal's European Journal makes the single most cogent, demographic, and mathematically firm argument as to why no one should ever be donating to UNRWA (aka the Gaza Welfare Agency) irrespective of your love or hate of these people.

The argument bypasses all the wondrous and poignant political points about how every other refugee in the world, in all time and space, has been and is being treated in a grossly different way (e.g. the "endless-generation rule" for those familiar with UNRWA's delightfully distorted view on what constitutes a "refugee").

The argument utterly stays away from traditional "Conservative" views regarding why an unending and unfettered welfare system ultimately harms the people it aims to help as opposed to alternative methods for aiding them stand on their own two feet.

The argument completely ignores any attempt to either "solve" or even take sides on the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

No, what this focused, incisive, and brilliant article does do is to quickly cut with the sharpest of Knives down to the fundamental crux of how the UNRWA's policy of limitless (in time and amount) "donations" to the Palestinians in Gaza leads directly and in no uncertain way to the guaranteed perpetuation of violence -- and here's the beauty -- that's violence period -- whether it be internecine or against Israel.

The article is so informative that you cannot help but have a complete catharsis on the subject as it will resonate strongly with everything you already know about the nature of young men.

And finally, it adds a bold and perhaps even unintended emphasis to Charles' brilliant knack for pointing out Obama's contribution to this quixotic quagmire.

The argument -- the article -- is quite simply unable to be rebutted! And I thank Charles for linking Obama with this highly perverse phenomena.

The tax exempt status of all the 501c(3) organizations troubles me as a taxpayer. Who are all these organizations and why should US taxpayers support them all. I am sure that most are benevolent and well intentioned. But I'm just as sure that there are plenty of hucksters, religious fanatics, crooks, and outright enemies of America that feed at the trough as well.

I say just blow it up. If people want to donate their income to their favorite charity, fine. Send every penny you got. But I don't see any good reason why US taxpayers should subsidize them.

What pisses me off is that the "youths" in Gaza view labor as beneath their dignity so they relegate themselves to the streets to make trouble instead of getting jobs. If they would get up off of their asses and construct their own damn ultities, irrigation, gardens, etc. they wouldn't need so many handouts -- but they DEPEND on these handouts to live. Kind of like the welfare recipients in America, why get a job and a life when you can get handouts?

I'm surprised. I only own one weapon on the list of those that would be explicitly banned: a Kel-Tec Sub 2000. It's kind of a nifty little gun. Folds in half, fits into a briefcase-sized carrying case, takes the same magazines as my Glocks.

Not really something I'd use to go on a major crime spree, though.

I'm sure they'll add my M1A to the list at some point.

Sigh.

your M1A would fall under the AG's prerogative, as would all of my shotguns.

Basically, the only thing we'd have that's legal are our revolvers and my plinker.

I just sent this email to my senator from Connecticut:
========================================

Dear Senator Lieberman ... I am extremely concerned about President Obama's desire to give nearly one billion dollars to "rebuild" Gaza after Israel's recently concluded military action in that terrorist enclave. Here is a link with the information:

[Link: www.mererhetoric.com...]

I see no chance of this money being used for anything other than the furthering of HAMAS' goal of killing Jews and trying to eliminate Israel. Gaza has received plenty of aid over the years and has not used it to help its citizens. This is an outrage and I hope you will speak out against this and try to stop it. President Obama has been very forgiving towards you after you (correctly) supported Senator McCain in the election. And I am pleased that he has taken that position. But you cannot give him a free pass when it comes to accepting outrageous decisions such as this one. I have great faith in you and I hope you will use your influence to stop this madness.

Thank you for being one of the last sane Democrats!

Sincerely Yours,

Sorry to be so late. But I just heard this on Medved's show and after I awoke from my fainting spell, had to write immediately to my two twisted sister senators; Barbara Boxhead and Dianne (can't keep a secret) Frankenstein, in protest of sending almost 1 billion dollars of tax money to a group of misogynistic, murderous, sociopaths (aka Hamas). They still send rockets into Israel, and he rewards them by sending almost a billion dollars? Huh? Words fail me.

Great job to all the Obama supporters, and those American Jews and ostensible supporters of Israel (and life in general) that supported him so overwhelmingly, you are now reaping the whirlwind of putting a far left Acorn graduate into the presidency.

This is beyond depressing. Time for Israel to become more, not less unilateral since it appears that Jimmy Carter is advising the messiah on middle east policy.
