AP Time Warp

Media • Views: 3,318

This seems to be more and more common: wire service reports on speeches and events that haven’t happened yet. AP Democratic shill Jennifer Loven has filed one of the more egregious examples, lavishing praise on Barack Obama before he’s even said a word: Obama aims for sober honesty, optimism in address.

He enters the chamber to lawmakers of both parties hanging into the aisle for a chance to shake his hand or exchange a word. The gallery is filled, including a special section hosted by first lady Michelle Obama in which guests are selected to serve as living symbols of the president’s goals. Cramming the floor are the leaders of the federal government: Supreme Court justices, all but one Cabinet member—held away in case disaster strikes—and nearly every member of Congress.

And at several places, she uses the past tense:

The president aimed to drive home several points:

Maybe she can bring back a couple of humpback whales on her return trip.

6 Dainn  Tue, Feb 24, 2009 3:46:45pm

I can do the time warp too:

Obama walked into the hall, looking presidential. He spoke for a while, using words like catastophe, hope, depression, change. The moral of the speech: if the economy gets better it was the Obama plan, if not, Bush did it.

20 DaddyG  Tue, Feb 24, 2009 3:51:04pm

There should be no surprise that the MSM is fabricating an image for Obama and lavishing praise for events that have not even taken place. He is after all a product of their creation, an empty canvas that was filled in with their hopes and manufactured image of their perfect candidate. No real news or anything that came out of his own mouth was so important that it was worth reporting at the expense of this created image. This was demonstrated very clearly with the victimization of Joe the Plumber designed to cover Obama's letting slip how he really thought during the campaign. The press is creating living propaganda supporting their agenda and no amount of actual performance on the Presidents part is going to interfere.

Not sure when it started, but they always release transcripts of these speeches. Jindal's is already out there. Just gives lazy reporters more time to lard on the bias, plus more time to load up at the bar and buffet tables.

It is the past passive. Quite a feat for reporting on a speech that hasn't happened yet.

The proper tense is "He is expected to speak of...."

The was it is written conveys the idea that he WAS expected to do something but didn't.

Play "O-BINGO" with Obama Tonight

Americans for Tax Reform, providing wholesome family fun since 1984, has created "O-BINGO". Played just like regular bingo, "O-BINGO" allows you and your family to follow along with Obama's speech and see who can get the most squares covered in one line.

This soon to be timeless game includes such memorable Obama phrases like "let me be clear", "vulnerable Americans", and who can forget the classic "toxic assets".

Get your "O-BINGO" card below and visit the newly remodeled [Link: www.ATR.org...] for more information and to leave your comments and scores from the game.

Study: Network coverage biased toward GOP

The major U.S. broadcasters demonstrated bias towards Republicans in their coverage of presidential campaigns between 1992 and 2004, a new book contends.

Maria Elizabeth Grabe and Erik Bucy, both associate professors of telecommunications at Indiana University, are the authors of "Image Bite Politics: News and the Visual Framing of Elections" published by Oxford University Press. They analyzed coverage of the elections on ABC, CBS and NBC and concluded all three networks showed a slight tilt to the Republican side.

"We don't think this is journalists conspiring to favor Republicans. We think they're just so beat up and tired of being accused of a liberal bias that they unknowingly give Republicans the benefit in coverage," said Grabe. "It's self-censorship that journalists might be imposing on themselves."

Twenty-something years ago the SF Chronicle had a drama critic named - let me see if I can get the spelling right without recourse to Google - Heuwell Tircuit (pronounced "hughie turkey".)

He put a rather negative review of some play (or was it an opera?) in the paper.

Trouble is, he referred to some cast member who'd been replaced on short notice for that performance by an understudy. That and a few other details made it clear than he hadn't attended the show, and he quickly beat an exit from the paper one step ahead of the bitumen and bird sheathing.

These days, it'd be a rare achievement if an AP reporter actually had knowledge of what they were reporting. Happens just often enough to be the exception that proves the rule.

re: #20 DaddyG

The scarier part is that he is was never an empty canvas. He merely stood behind their canvas and waited while they lofted him into power. Now his true colors can begin to bleed through until everyone will be seeing socialist red.

I see on AP's comments a couple people have pointed out this speech had not even taken place. WTF kind of world we live in, beyond printing two different winning Superbowl/World Series T-shirts, do they print news that hasn't happened? And AP just looks the other way. Worthless c***suckers.

If the nirthers wanted a real conspiracy, they just found it for real.

As most of you know, I keep the Lizard Prayer List. I'm asking for your prayers for my boys and me tonight and tomorrow as we go to a court mediation with my EH. He is asking for joint custody, and I truly don't think that's in my boys' or his best interest right now. I really need some peace and strength tonight so that I can get some rest and face tomorrow.

I thank all of your for your friendship here. You mean a great deal to me.

During the 2004 election cycle a memo appeared that appeared to have been written by GWB commander (Texas Air National Guard) saying that GWB failed to show up enough to meet his commitment. The only thing is that the memo could never have been produced on the available (at that time) typewriters. Hence the fake but accurate memo. A flashing graphic of the two memos pretty much proved that the memo was a fake. This involved Dan Rather and led to his being run out of CBS.

197 midwestgak  Tue, Feb 24, 2009 4:39:53pm

"He enters the chamber to lawmakers of both parties hanging into the aisle for a chance to shake his hand or exchange a word. The gallery is filled, including a special section hosted by first lady Michelle Obama in which guests are selected to serve as living symbols of the president's goals. Cramming the floor are the leaders of the federal government: Supreme Court justices, all but one Cabinet member—held away in case disaster strikes—and nearly every member of Congress."

Speech was given in the most eloquent manner. Mindless and incessant applause followed. Many thronged him hoping to touch his lapel (which had no pin of the American flag on it) hoping only to get a tingle down their leg. (Why do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near?) He exits the chamber shaking hands and hugging all who are laying cloaks on his path. (Just like me, they want to be, close to you)./

He then ascended.

After the last month of action impotent may be better. God willing we'll have an uneventful 23 more months followed by an overwhelming reversal of power in congress and we can neuter the pork-a-palooza without anything tragic occuring to the President (no matter how much I oppose his policy).

Great...a whole section of poor bastards that are (willingly) going to be used as sob stories, just so Dear Leader can say, "If you don't pass everything that I want, they'll be more of these people in homeless shelters and in soup kitchens....hell, the whole country will be broke, but nevermind the fact that my policies are pushing us farther and farther down!"

Ahhh...the adulation of grifters/losers by the Donks.

Yes...i know that is what I was referring to . I thought the fake but accurate was apropos for the topic of reporting an Obama event that hadn't occurred.

...but Sharmuta is (I think) trying to insinuate that my posting has other motives because we have had discussions on another topic in a different thread. She is either fixated or delusional or I am mistaken and she is referring to something else. I am still waiting for her to explain herself

Don't forget how completely uninspiring the Republican choice was. I'll never forget watching the evening news after McCain rushed back to Washington to save the country and then just sat there while the Dems and Bush plotted our financial ruin. Just sat there! Then voted for the bailout! He lost my vote then and there. The next Monday I put every dime I had left in TIPS and T-bills because I had zero faith in our leaders.

If you read the whole thing it is bizarre. Sometimes present tense, sometimes past tense, sometimes future tense.

unbelievably unethical. All of it should have been written to clearly indicate the speech hadn't happened yet. Yes, much of the ritual will be predictable, but sheesh.
