Tariq Aziz Acquitted in Mass Murder of Shiites

World • Views: 13,447

Saddam Hussein henchman Tariq Aziz has been acquitted of mass murder in one of the cases pending against him.

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s special criminal court on Monday acquitted Tariq Aziz, the man who once served as the urbane, cigar-smoking public face of Saddam Hussein’s rule, delivering the most significant not guilty verdict in a series of prosecutions for crimes against humanity that occurred before the American invasion in 2003.

Mr. Aziz, who will turn 73 next month, remained in custody, facing charges in two other cases. Only hours after his acquittal, he appeared before another judge to defend himself against charges that he was involved in the massacre of Kurds in 1983.

Unless that was his plan, all along. Of course, that's until the wealthy are taxed into oblivion.

Socialism works well, until the wealthy run out of money.

It was from the scene when they were videotaping the communique, and the battery in the camera was dying, the camera operator was sweating because he was afraid of Aziz, when the battery finally died, Aziz asked why he put the camera down, and his response was "the battery Aziz"

There is more to this than meets the eye... hopefully he will get smoked on one of the other charges.

Is this a sigh of Iraq backpedaling now that "The One" (TM) is in charge? I hope not.

Saddam was found guilty - wasn't that one of "these trials", as well? Of course, Saddam's trial was probably more scrutinized than this trial, making fixing it a lot more difficult. Maybe this guy is just in the "sweet spot" - not important enough to receive a lot of scrutiny but important enough to have a fixed trial. Or maybe he isn't - maybe he really is innocent of this particular crime, whatever that means.

As high as he was in the Iraqi government, even if he didn't order the crime and even if he didn't have the power to directly stop it, it seems likely that he knew of it in advance and maybe could have leaked word of the attack. Of course, courts also don't issue "50% guilty verdicts" - it's all or nothing.

In short, I don't know what to conclude from this at all.

I was wondering what happened to him, and when he'll get his new spokesman post at the White House or the DNC. He'd be perfect, denying reality is what BO needs.
