Bayefsky: Obama Double-Deals On Durban II

Charles Johnsonfollow me on twitter

Anne Bayefsky says the Obama administration is double-dealing on Israel, pandering as much as possible to the antisemites at the UN while appearing to be pro-Israel.

Durban II, scheduled for Geneva in April, is the U.N.’s attempt at a rerun of the 2001 global anti-Semitic hate fest held in Durban, South Africa.

After sowing confusion over the phone lines, the State Department chose late Friday night to put the real deal in print. Their release reads: “the current text of the draft outcome document is not salvageable,” and “the United States will not … participate in a conference based on this text,” but we will “re-engage if a document that meets [our] criteria becomes the basis for deliberations.” A new version must be: “shorter,” “not reaffirm in toto the flawed 2001 Durban Declaration,” “not single out any one country or conflict,” and “not embrace the troubling concept of ”defamation of religion.“

And by the way, it continued, the U.S. will ”participate” for the first time in the U.N. Human Rights Council.

All of this leaves the American people not knowing whether they’re coming or going.

RUSSIA BRUSHES OFF OBAMA: NO 'HAGGLING'
Tue Mar 03 2009 09:15:17 ET

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev on Tuesday showed willingness to discuss the US-planned missile defense system opposed by Moscow, but without 'haggling' linking it to Iran.

Medvedev was commenting during a visit to Spain on an alleged offer by US President Barack Obama to halt the defense system if Iran could be convinced to give up nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in Madrid, Medvedev welcomed the 'positive signals' coming from the Obama administration with which he hoped to reach 'agreements.'

'Haggling,' however, was not 'productive,' Medvedev said.

Here's a truly jaw-dropping article, a must-read:

Puzzled in Gaza

One quote:
'What I saw was that there had been precision attacks made on all of Hamas' infrastructure. Does UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon criticize the surgical destruction of the explosives cache in the Imad Akhel Mosque, of the National Forces compound, of the Shi Jaya police station, of the Ministry of Prisoners? The Gazans I met weren't mourning the police state. Neither were they radicalized. As Hamas blackshirts menaced the street corners, I witnessed how passersby ignored them.'

As its in the Jerusalme Post, chances that any of the high-and-mighty at Durban, in Goggy Bottom, the Foreign Officeor any other State Department will have seen this are slim to non-existent.

We are seeing the TRUE Obama much sooner than anyone expected. Maybe even sooner than Obama himself expected.

Obama was trained by Louis Farrakhan, James Wright, and other anti-semitic fuktards. Obama cannot think for himself and must follow others. This is what we got and what we will have for the next 4 years.

If the stock market is an emotional barometer, (it is, to some extent) - maybe if someone with confidence speaks, confidence would return to the market.

I think you're right to an extent. Didn't we get a small bounce when Bernanke told Congress he thought the recession would be turning around next quarter or so? (Some time frame like that.)

But then Obama opened his mouth and tanked it again.

104 lawhawk  Tue, Mar 3, 2009 9:12:51am

This should surprise absolutely no one. He's been talking out of both sides of his mouth on the subject of the Middle East and Israel in particular for months. He would say one thing to one audience, and quite a different thing to a different audience.

Remember the mess he made of talking to AIPAC about the status of Jerusalem and how he purposefully ignored existing US doctrine on the final status of Jerusalem remaining in the hands of the negotiating parties, and a day later had to clarify himself by talking himself into a pretzel.

Of course, that's fitting since he continually engages in pretzel logic all over the place - whether it's the economy or foreign policy.

It's funny that the left would deride Bush because he almost choked on a pretzel. We're now seeing the world choke on Obama pretzel logic.

I still don't understand. Rudy has no political power to make any changes, effect any changes, to adjust or remove any policy, there is not a thing he could get up and say except that what Obama is doing is not working.

But that was Bernanke, someone with some sort of knowledge of the financial systems, and someone who was involved in them.

Rudy has nothing to do with the financial markets or what ever. I still don't see how Rudy, making any comment, would help the markets.

They don't here much either, but they remind me of a royal standard that has not been quaffed. Used to run into one when we took our dog for a walk down by the river. Our guy doesn't go out much now. 16.5 year old lassa-poo. Spends most of his time in front of the fireplace sleeping. He deserves it. He has been a loyal and good dog. Pretty blind now with cataracts, but that is the way it goes. No longer climbs the stairs to be with us at night. He could, but the last couple of times he did, he went ass over teakettle down the stairs when he tried to come down. Let him enjoy his senior years. Sometimes a pain cleaning up after him, but so be it. It was part of the bargain.

Susan Rice, our US Ambassador to the UN does not like Jews much.

Other than the fact that she gave John Kerry some really bad advice in recommending Jimmy Carter and James Baker as Middle East negotiators, I don't see any evidence for that statement. But I'm willing to be educated.

Sounds like no "swap" was being discussed according to Reuters:

""If we are talking about any "swaps" (Iran for missile defense), this is not how the question is being put. This would not be productive," Medvedev told a news conference in Madrid, where he was on a state visit.

But he added: "If the new (U.S.) administration shows common sense and offers a new (missile defense) structure which would satisfy European (needs) ... and would be acceptable for us, we are ready to discuss it."

"I count on positive signals we are now receiving from Washington translating into agreements," Medvedev said."

The US rulers abandoned Israel when they cooked up a false NIE report claiming Iranians were NOT working towards a bomb. This is but one evidence - there are plenty - of a secret US/Iran deal that was reached in 2007: we'll let you have your bomb and become a regional superpower, and you'll give us possibility for a quiet withdrawal from Iraq. The Lee-Hamilton report even went as far as demanding Iran's "reasonable regional aspirations" be respected. (!) Their top man, Bob Gates, was installed into the White House and still remains there, now with Brzezinski faction firmly in power. And Muqtada Sadr is still nowhere to be seen.

There are no coincidences in real world politics, and certainly no lucky breaks out of the blue.

Bush was the FIRST US president to demand creation of Arab terrorist state inside Land of Israel. Even Clinton didn't do that.

The demand for creation of Arab state in the Land of Israel right away, is the demand for the destruction of Israel.

Bush didn't even release Jonathan Pollard. Some friend!

148 Bob Levin  Tue, Mar 3, 2009 12:54:04pm

I don't think Obama is double-dealing. But the alternative doesn't speak much better about him, his astounding level of naivete. They really and truly believe, and I believe that they are all real and true believers (except for Hillary, who has a low tolerance for looking like a complete idiot), that their mere presence at these events can shift outcomes. They really thought that the failings of Durban I is because the US didn't participate, and that if the US was there, things would have been different.

So they showed up at Durban II, and things were different. The antisemites thought they just received a blank check and wrote it in an even more virulent way. The Believers in the Obama Administration believe they will show up at the UN Human Right Commission and change them into an organization truly devoted to human rights rather than an official body dedicated to the elimination of Israel. There isn't any slyness here. But they are being dangerously naive in all of their policies both internationally and domestically.

And I don't think that collectively they have the emotional or intellectual flexibility to do anything about it--they are going to make the same mistake over and over again.

Damn, what's the world coming to. You can't even send your kids to Harvard anymore because they'll get a second rate education.
