OFF TOPIC - Michelle Obama doing the Great Chicago Patient Shuffle:
The faster you can get treatment for a heart attack, the less damage to your heart muscle will be done. So hospitals measure "Door to Balloon time": The amount of time that passes between the patient arrives (comes through the door) and has a potentially life saving Angioplasty (Insertion and inflation of a balloon to open a blocked artery, hence "Door to Balloon time")
The Chicago Tribune ranked the hospitals in Illinois by percentage of Medicare patients with Door to Balloon times of 90 minutes or less, the current standard. According to them, the University of Chicago Medical Center (Michelle Obama's former employer, and the main culprit in the developing Patient Dumping scandal) ranked 17th, with 83% of Medicare patients receiving Angioplasty.
That's not a bad ranking or rating, actually. But the result is actually listed as 83%*. Now what could that * stand for? When you read the article, you see that * means "the number of cases was too small to determine a hospital’s performance reliably."
Chicago must be a pretty healthy city... A major medical center in the middle of a city of 3 million people, and very few heart attacks? Those Midwestern types must be pretty tough! Or perhaps the fact that the survey only counts MEDICARE patients has something to do with it?

Let's ignore all the Democrats who skipped out on their patriotic duty to pay their full tax share. Let's go after international corporations or individuals who haven't paid taxes because of tax havens or other setups that allow them to avoid paying US taxes.
Let's ignore that Charles Rangel sits on the House Ways and Means chairmanship despite failing to pay thousands in taxes and multiple ethics flaps.
This is the last bastion of a government entity looking to find tax revenue when none is forthcoming from other sources. That's why we see states beefing up their compliance efforts and pushing to expand sales tax collection of Internet sales.

Frontpage headline last week,
Afghan civilians killed by Canadians
Inside section, bottom of the page correction today:
Canadians not responsible for Afghan blast
Forensic evidence has removed any suspicion that Canadian munitions killed three children last week, military officials said Monday, contradicting angry villagers who believe Canadian troops were responsible.
In an unusually swift examination of the site about 15 kilometres west of Kandahar city where the children died, Canadian investigators found a blast pattern and bomb fragments that they said proves Canadian ordnance did not cause the deaths.
Brigadier-General Jon Vance, the Canadian commander in Kandahar, said the children probably picked up an improvised explosive device, a jury-rigged bomb commonly used by insurgents. “The only people that work with IEDs in this area are Taliban,” he said.
Apology from the Canadian media for running Taliban propaganda?
No where to be found.

This whole cycle of "Announce a falsehood, have the entire Left scream in outrage, then murmur under your breath that the original statement was untrue," is not simply an outline of the arc of this particular conspiracy theory; nor is it merely the prototype of all conspiracy theories believed by the Left; it is actually the model for the entire Leftist belief system.
Everything they think is true is actually untrue, and is often based on some biased or intentionally inflammatory or patently false media report or statistic or historical event.

You'd think that if someone on the left is proven wrong often enough* they'd think about things and grow up... but then when you're wealthy enough/in charge of own little world then they feel no need to stand for criticism... perhaps they just hold everyone else in contempt as little people who don't count... iirc Hugh turned over control of his rag to his daughter ages ago...
*when I was growing up playboy's non photo stuff was been slanted left since I can remember with the occasional rare "got it right" article etc... which is why I preferred, in the days of my wayward youth, Hustler... at least Larry Flynt took on assholes of all stripes and brooked none of the snooty high falutin' intellectual snootiness that oozes from lefties... haven't looked at either in decades but am hardly surprised at it...

Thats giving Gord too much credit. Gord needed to be seen to be hearted by PB0. Thats what his aides ahve been trumpeting: it was a coup for Gord to be The First European Prime Minister to be graciously received by PB0 - mega brownie points all round for Gord, especially in regard to the next election.

It drives me bonkers, this assumption that "First Lady" is somehow a public office; that the First Lady is supposed to "do" something. WE DIDN'T ELECT MICHELLE.
(And yes, I'll feel the same way about a "First Gentleman". AFAIK, Dennis Thatcher didn't attempt to run part of Maggie's government; he just went on with his business. That's the way it should be.)

Playboy could have saved themselves alot of incredibility if they had been reading Instapundit or done any research before spouting off about conspiracy theories.

...The Playboy folks, meanwhile, miss two things. One is that, as reader Miles Wilson noted, these protests predate Santelli. The other is that modern technology allows a bunch of people who don’t know each other to coordinate a nationwide campaign “suspiciously” well. Somebody should write a book on that subject some day.

Not the most important question of the day, but I have to ask: is your avatar available as a t-shirt? I've seen that graphic before but never been able to find it in a shirt.
I 'borrowed' this from the now defunct sacredcowburgers site. I asked Jay Dyson the same thing. He told me there weren't, but that he had no problem with me copying the artwork and making posters, shirts, etc. The image was so small that enlarged you unfortunately get the lack of clarity.
In a nutshell, no, I don't think so.

Believing a few feeble demos by a "party" that sounds like it's an invitation to watercress sandwiches and scones, one without a program or a plan of any kind, one where people bring their Ron Paul Rloveution eighteenth-century "patriot" costumes out of mothballs (thank God, another chance to dress up and parade around like a twit!) - believing that will accomplish anything more than the moonbats do with their giant puppet heads, is the very definition of pitiful.
the people who went had fun. they enjoyed being around like minded

Why were there so many sites and organizations online and live within minutes or hours after his rant, leading to a nationwide protest just a week after his rant?
Santellis rants are always spontaneous. Thats what he does.
He went to a sensation so quick and there were "so many sites and organizations online and live within minutes or hours after his rant, leading to a nationwide protest just a week after his rant" because his words resonated with so many people that it went viral. The only Republicans who know how to organize a protest are the Cubans in Miami. They can get 200,000 people out on the streets within 24 hours to protest Castro. During the 2000 election contest, they did better than that. There was this wonderful TV shot of Al Sharpton getting off the plane in Miami, with thousands of Cuban-Republican protesters screaming for Bush around him. He turned to then N.Y. Governor George Pataki, and nervously said, "Is it safe here?" Pataki replied with a smirk, "You'll be all right, Reverend."

My dog has been taking this Obama Recession/Depression quite hard, the poor old boy.
At least he still has money for booze.

From that esteemed political pamphlet Playboy:
"and funders of scores of rightwing thinktanks and advocacy groups, from the Cato Institute and Reason Magazine to FreedomWorks."
You just can't make this stuff up.
Look out! Run for the hills! We're doomed, I tells ya! Cato and Reason wanna cut taxes and get rid of the Dept. of Commerce. Scaaarrryyy! Reason magazine was against the war in Iraq, in favor of drug legalization and don't seem to have a problem with smut. Rightwing?
Message to Playboy: stick to boobs, thanks.

What these leftwing clowns don't realize is in a world run by Cato/Reason magazine types, Playboy would continue to exist. In a world run the, say the Nation or the New Republic or the H*#*&^ton Post, Playboy would eventually get banned by some New Age nanny stater, and then they's sing Kumbaya, My Gaia, where are my boobs?!

I was surprised by the size of the last issue, ads must be way way down. The boob to ad ratio, was heavily weighted towards boob...not that it is a bad thing.

Anyone who's seen even 5 minutes of this horror movie we're living in knows that the "vicious right wing attack machine" couldn't organization a roach rodeo in Hotlanta in the summer time, let alone manage pull of "the launch event of a carefully organized and sophisticated PR campaign, one in which Santelli served as a frontman, using the CNBC airwaves for publicity."

re: #232 nyc redneck
the people who went had fun. they enjoyed being around like minded
citizens. the event did get publicity and such gatherings inspire others who are tired of O and his war on our economy.
this is how a movement that means something can start and make a difference.
it's fine if you don't want to get involved but your negativity seems a bit extreme. why rain on their parade w/ such bitterness.
I'm not bitter at all - I'm laughing.
I do wonder why the same people weren't out there protesting Bush and his war on "our" economy.
But the people who go to these events are not my enemies, and when all is said and done, to each his own. I'm not a sign-holding, crowd-joining kind of Roman. You'll find me at my villa reading and writing, not in the Forum making rhetorical gestures.
Scribo ergo sum.
