And Now for Some Andy Timmons
Looks like Andy’s playing live in a studio with a backing track; the tune is “Carpe Diem,” from That Was Then, This Is Now.
This guy is a monster.

Nice...
Charles,
Thank you for these videos and introducing me to new artists that I would not otherwise have heard. I recently went to a Tommy Emmanuel concert in E'town KY, and I only knew about him because you and LGF. For the lizard's pleasure, here is an interview that Tommy did with a friend of mine on local radio. It is about an hour and a half so you might want to save it for some slow time. Greg Martin is the guitar player for the Kentucky Headhunters but he has a great live blues show weekly on local radio.

The criteria I use for thoughtful analysis is as follows:
If I were to have heard the same notes and rhythms played on another instrument, would I have enjoyed it just as much?
In this case, the answer is yes. Very inventive use of the entire axe, the rhythms were varied and the note choices were exciting.

I listened to Glenn's treatment the next day on the radio and he was trying to get Mr. Webb to demonstrate his absurdity. He mostly succeeded but he did ended up giving a voice to the communist party in the process. I many folks listening may have detected the contradictions in his arguments, but it may not have been entirely clear.

OT: went to the gun show in Glendale, a suburb at the east end of the San Fernando Valley here in LA, and got there about 3pm.
the locusts had already struck: about the only ammo left was odd ball calibers: almost all the 9mm, 40, 45, 30.06, 308 & 7.62 ComBloc was gone...
at one table, they said a single individual had bought 8000 rounds of 9mm.
the line at the DROS booth was 10-12 sales deep, and they had piles behind the counter already processed.

I love music threads.
Especially since I lost my hearing.
Got it back in one ear and I listen all of the time thinking that one of these days my hearing loss may come back and so I try to keep something going all of the time.
While I was deaf, I still played piano at church but I had to ask folks if I it sounded like I was hitting the right notes. They were nice but i am not sure if they were always truthful, even at church. Since I improvise, I am sure the results were interesting at times.

He's not the only one tired. Hillary blamed this gem on 'tiredness'...
A veteran politician, Clinton compared the complex European political environment to that of the two-party U.S. system, before adding:
"I have never understood multiparty democracy.
"It is hard enough with two parties to come to any resolution, and I say this very respectfully, because I feel the same way about our own democracy, which has been around a lot longer than European democracy."
The remark provoked much headshaking in the parliament of a bloc that likes to trace back its democratic tradition thousands of years to the days of classical Greece.
One working lunch later with EU leaders, Clinton raised more eyebrows when she referred to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who stood beside her, as "High Representative Solano."
She also dubbed European Commission External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner as "Benito."

It's different musical styles and techniques. Hendrix was singer, songwriter as well as guitarist that introduced a lot of groundbreaking material during his short life. Timmons is a well respected studio musician and backup guitarist as well as a solo artist and very well versed in guitar.
Two completely different people and music both having respectable accomplishments. I don't like the comparing game but if you had to compare Hendrix to someone it could be to Robin Trower. Timmons than can be compared to Steve Morse.
Think of it like comparing Yehudi Menuhin with Stephan Grappelli both historical and groundbreaking vilonists.

In an interview with the newspaper published on its website, Obama said that some of the U.S. success in Iraq involved reaching out to Islamic fundamentalists who had been alienated by the tactics of al Qaeda in Iraq.
We reached out to Sunni tribesmen who were alienated by Islamic fundamentalists. I guess it really doesn't matter if the quote is accurate in that if Reuters thought that Bush had said something that jaw-droppingly stupid, they would have been all over him like stink on shit.

Here's another in the same vein as BO's outreach to the Taliban:
The Obama administration warned the Syrian ruler to desist from his maneuverings to orchestrate a victory for Hizballah and its allies in Lebanon's July 7 elections.
Debka is a bit suspicious in it's reporting sometimes, but this rings true, as in wishful thinking by the administration.
Not being quite as fervent in my disdain as some, I like to tell myself that Obama and Co are smart enough to know what's what and are pandering to their moonbat supporters, fully expecting their efforts to fail but then being able to say "we tried".
What comes next however will be the real thing.

re: #110 Iron Fist
That is one way to try and find what you want. The problem with that is that you are pretty much at the mercy of whomever has the weapon in regards to the price. I've been watching gunbroker.com for the past few months. You hae weapons for sale there that I didn't even know existed, Like semi-auto MG-42s, which was a WWII German light-machine gun. They run around $3000.
It'd be nice to have that kind of money to throw at it :-)
I've been looking for a 16" fluted AR-15/M-4 barrel (or barreled upper), and I can't find even one company that actually has it in stock. Everyone is backordered to the hilt. I've gotten some of the things I've been looking for in the last 3-4 months, and I still have one item backordered (non-firearm).
Even if Obama and the Democrats do nothing on gun control, they've already gotten a lot of people who might not have otherwise armed themselves to invest in weaponry. This is, in the grand scheme of things, a good thing.
this is/was a small gun show, so not many vendors, but there were a variety of AR uppers, etc, available. we ran into a guy with a CZ-52 in very good condition, matching numbers and all, who wanted $275 for it. while they were in the DROS line, i was drooling over a Rock Island 45 in the case next door for $450. unfortunately, i'm the starving college student these days, so i had to settle for a case of M1 carbine ammo and 4 10 round mags for us to use at the CPM matches.

Point well taken - but this was some awesome playing that IMHO rivals teeth playing.
it's all about attack and style...lots of players can play fast and hit every note...scales are like that and speed and articulation are okay...but beyond that there is a feel for the guitar too...a natural extention of your brain to your hands...attack...it reveals how comfortable you are and how unforced the playing comes out..some player grit their teeth and grind away and others just lay back and it all comes out just like they hear it in their head, fluid and and easy...you can tell the difference when you compare alot of different players...SRV was the most fluid, natural guitarist I ever saw and I saw Hendrix too...you just watch how easy it seems to be for them and you get the feeling that they could do anything, play anything they want effortlessly...and I'm talking an extremely difficult thing to master...there is a higher order to it...some players have it and some don't

New Charges Against Neo-Nazi Bill White
Last year was not a good one for bellicose neo-Nazi Bill White. This year could be worse. White, the founder and leader of the American National Socialist Workers Party, was indicted in Roanoke, Va., in December on seven federal counts related to making Internet and other threats. If convicted on all counts, he faces as much as 55 years in prison and $1.75 million in fines. White already was in a federal holding facility in Chicago, following his arrest in October on an obstruction of justice charge stemming from personal information he published on his website about the jury foreman in the trial of another neo-Nazi leader.

re: #185 Iron Fist
$450s not a bad price. Not a great price either. Of course, that depends on what you are comparing it to. Springfield Armory used to be moderate priced (and moderate quality) .45s, and these days they are up there with Colt and Kimber.
It is going to be interesting to see what happens to demand over the next year or so. If Obama spends most of his time working on outreach to the "moderate" Taliban (I'm sorry, but that freaks me the hell out. I'm ot saying what I think of it, but WTF) and I guess, the more mainstream al Qaeda people (Dick Durban, for instance) instead of gun control, then surely demand will drop off. I know that before the '94 ban you had a lot of people that had never owned a gun before buying AK-47s simply because Clinton was trying to tell them what they could and could not have.
OTOH, if Obama and the Democrats come out swinging demand will get even higher than it currently is.
around here $450 for a 1911A1 is a DAMN good price.
demand is likely to stay high simply because no one seems to trust Ear Leader but the morons who voted for him. hell, 2H6 never bought a gun until this fall, and now we're shooting High Power matches, skeet, trap, and she's looking at Sporting Clays, as well as hand gun training... she also said we need a safe just for ammo and reloading supplies.
po' me. %-)

No time to deal with international matters? Tired? We are sitting ducks. Obama is not ready to lead.
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

Two question I would have for the people in the article:
First, why do they have to keep moving from one rental to another?
Second, the only difference between a conventional mortgage and an "Islamic" mortgage is that the Islamics pay all the interest up front (presumably discounted for future value) and then are told that the monthly payments are just paying the principal. This is a beautiful example of cognitive dissonance.
The article however is tediously politically correct in avoiding any attempt to explain the details of the differences.

It's wacky, and I suspect the Islamist purists are the ones who get shafted in fees or interest calculations that that they don't want to investigate (see no evil, hear no evil, etc.), but I'll bet you there will be a lawsuit soon enough by someone claiming overcharging, and then the word "interest" will be spoken.

I love this part:
According to one of his addresses, he gets tens of thousands of letters every day, and his staff sifts through them all and picks ten for him to read. And "three of them are always about health care." (Could it be that his staff have an agenda? Or that he's full of shit, and HE has an agenda?) So, if he's so tired, why is he wasting time reading letters?
Yeah, and recently Obama said in one of his speeches that every 30 seconds an American family loses their home due to health care costs. Of course, no one, including Obama officials, can verify that stat.

from the article:
Here's how the mortgage, known as Murabaha financing or "cost plus sale," works:
The state buys a home and resells it to the buyer at a higher price. The down payment and monthly installments are agreed to up front at current mortgage rates.
The deal is identical to a thirty-year fixed-rate loan, except there's no additional interest, because the higher up front price factors in payments that would have been made over the life of a traditional mortgage.
The state buys the home to resell under conditions required by this religion? The state?

My quick calculation makes that about 1 million homes (or moves) per year, but as you point out, it would seem impossible to attribute that to health care reasons alone, since there are no records kept of the details of all financial problems people may have, yet.
This claim stinks of something.

No, here's how the "seething" ends up:
MUSLIMS RIOT at Israel's Davis Cup Match in Sweden
Sweden forced the Israeli Davis Cup tennis team to play in an empty stadium due to threats of violence by local radicals.
But that didn't stop them from attacking the stadium.
Thousands of protesters attacked police at the Davis Cup Match today between Israel and Sweden.
The UPI reported on today's violence:Thousands of people demonstrated Saturday during Israel-Sweden Davis Cup play in Malmo, Sweden, to protest the invasion of Gaza.
Police estimated the crowd of protesters at 6,000, The Local reported. About 1,000 officers were on duty on the ground and in helicopters.
Most of those at the Stop the Match march were peaceful but police said some young people rushed the barricades and threw rocks with about five arrested, the BBC reported.
Sweden won doubles play Saturday, giving it a 2-1 lead over Israel.
This week - Sweden banned the Israeli Taekwondo team from even entering the country because, the gov't said, "Ten thousand members of a Muslim organization are threatening to settle the account with you because of the war in Gaza."

The interest rate is lower? Overall?
The article doesnt say. I would assume the bank would figure out the loan using the current rate. For example, a $200,000 house at 6% would end up costing a total of $431,677.04 if you paid the minimum payment ($1199.10) over 30 years. I am guessing that's the price the Islamic Mortgage program will figure out the payment from. If you paid an extra $200 every 2 mortgage payments you would have paid a total of $182,705.26 and paid off your mortgage on 295 months instead of 360. If you pay all the interest upfront you wont save any money on the interest.
I don't see the benefits of the Islamic Mortgage program.

Right. I was thinking so my guess would be that the state more than likely would pay the interest. The state meaning the taxpayers and somehow or another it would probably be funded with Federal tax revenues. IOW, socialized mortgage interest payments. There's no way someone in foreclosure can afford to pay that kind of interest -- allegedly. The reason I say allegedly is because a lot of "home owners" are scamming the system as we speak in order to get the soon to come Federal mortgage assistance monies.

It just so happens that I know the owners and the manager very well. Guess where I would be if that weren't the case: out on the street. Well, perhaps to some dive nonetheless. See my #362 for the link to this 'financing' option -- very interesting
I saw it.
It was interesting, indeed.
According to that article:
In an Islamic mortgage transaction, instead of loaning the buyer money to purchase the item, a bank might buy the item itself from the seller, and re-sell it to the buyer at a profit, while allowing the buyer to pay the bank in installments. However, the fact that it is profit cannot be made explicit and therefore there are no additional penalties for late payment. In order to protect itself against default, the bank asks for strict collateral. The goods or land is registered to the name of the buyer from the start of the transaction. This arrangement is called Murabaha.
So if the state is using this form of Islamic mortgage to help Muslims buy homes, the homes will be shown as state properties until they are paid for.
If they need to establish their own system of banks or credit unions in order to purchase homes, well that's fine and dandy.
But to have the state involved in this is just wrong, imo.

Not only that, but if it isn't called "interest" then it's not deductible from your income taxes (the interest portion I mean) and most everyone I know, when they're buying a house, figures out how much it'll cost them, NET OF INCOME TAXES based on the interest they pay. And in NYC, for example, that interest deduction works on your fed return, which spills over into you State income taxes and NYC income taxes.
With this quasi-Sharia, I don't see where you get any deductions on those income taxes for the "interest you're not paying".

In conjunction with the release of the new guidelines, Treasury, HUD and other members of a broad interagency task force have prepared consumer friendly Q&A and eligibility assessment tools for borrowers available at FinancialStability.gov. Yep, there you have it. Not only are the re-writing Federal laws to accommodate these deadbeats but they're soon going to force financial institutions to accommodate them -- at a loss. The banks won't pay for that loss so the taxpayer will take on that debt. I say debt because it is based on future treasury bill returns on the mounting debt. The Federal government of course never creates any money at all so that's a no-brainer. Who pays in the end? The taxpayer. Who makes out the best in this case? The deadbeat

Sales of Ayn Rand's “Atlas Shrugged” Soar in the Face of Economic Crisis
by News Wire (February 23, 2009)
[CapMag.com] Washington, D.C., February 23, 2009--Sales of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” have almost tripled over the first seven weeks of this year compared with sales for the same period in 2008. This continues a strong trend after bookstore sales reached an all-time annual high in 2008 of about 200,000 copies sold.
“Americans are flocking to buy and read ‘Atlas Shrugged’ because there are uncanny similarities between the plot-line of the book and the events of our day” said Yaron Brook, Executive Director at the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights. “Americans are rightfully concerned about the economic crisis and government’s increasing intervention and attempts to control the economy. Ayn Rand understood and identified the deeper causes of the crisis we’re facing, and she offered, in ‘Atlas Shrugged,’ a principled and practical solution consistent with American values."
Here is a video featuring Dr. Yaron Brook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights, on the "Glenn Beck Program" on Fox News , Tuesday, February 17, 2009:

Good evening Silvergirl - yeah someone posted the whole bit on an earlier thread - that he was bitching and moaning about Iraq, Afghanistan, the economy yada yada yada and my comment then was the same as it is now: Tough luck, George W. Bush faced a deteriorating economy (thank you Bill Clinton), an attack on America ON OUR SOIL with a greater loss of life - almost all "civilian" or at least non-military - then had to deal with Afghanistan, went into Iraq to both enforce something like 18 UN Security Council resolutions Saddam had ignored and because the intelligence agencies of 7 different nations came to the same conclusion that Bill Clinton had come to: Saddam had WMD's AND Bush had to deal with the aftereffects of the CRA (again, thank you Bill Clinton and the Dems) which created the effin' sub-prime mortgage market in the first place and at least George W. Bush kept us SAFE after 9/11 - for 7 years.
Let's hope that you can at least measure up to President Bush in that area.

Not only are the re-writing Federal laws to accommodate these deadbeats but they're soon going to force financial institutions to accommodate them -- at a loss.
Read on. The government is going to reimburse financial institutions for the slack that they cut the deadbeats responsible homeowners.

Yes, I know that my friend - just didn't want to get too gloomy tonight. Taking away that interest deduction will - according to a study I read in 2008 prepared by the Real Estate Insitute of NYU would ultimately wind up with MANY MORE foreclosures, throughout the nation, than we are currently facing in primarily five states.

I like your current one better. The only LGF avatar that I hate is I think "Free Token" who has an Obama avatar. I can't stand the sight of him, especially after this week with the way he treated the British Prime Minister. I really dont think we know what the hell our country elected.

Fools? Oh ya mean those that didn't insist on 3,000 sq ft MINIMUM STARTER homes with granite counter tops and all stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors?
Those fools?!
Nah, forget it - THIS federal government isn't gonna give them a thing - THEY have to suffer the consequences of keeping the home after losing their job(s).
Did you see that bus driver complaining about being in foreclosure? I couldn't help but notice the house and the appliances. 800,000 dollar home. I don't know what her husband does but I can guess considering she's a bus driver. She went on to blame "the mortgage company because they made it too easy to get into the home."
Now, who in their right mind gets into an 800,000 dollar home thinking that it's going to be a cake walk. That's well beyond even a starter home price. No doubt some liberal "Metro Broker" real estate hack had their paws in on this deal too.

re: #427 Gus 802
Foreclose. Sell the house at auction -- privately -- and move on. The people that lose their homes will have to rent. That's the way it used to work.
Those that financed 100% or 100%+ haven't 'owned' a home all along. They haven't paid down any of the principle so far, only interest...they are actually just paying rent now. This crap about them losing their investment...they never had one.
And those that floated loans on the 2nd and 3rd home...sorry. Or wanted to flip a house with no qualifications and only greed in their eyes...sorry. Those they had a balloon mortgage should have expected that one day the balloon might inflate...sorry.
So people are desperate. But too many are like those described above.

You are correct, sir! He had no idea. Today I saw a funny photoshop of an Urkel/Obama behind the desk in the Oval Office with a nuclear explosion as the view out the windows. He was wearing a trainee hat. I can't give you the link because I don't remember where I was.

NY Grampa and I both have been in computer hell for a few days, as both our computers are corrupted...mine was first.
I am now using FireFox, which I hate. I have been having such bad withdrawal symptoms from LGF that I finally gave in, and will use it until NY Grampa wipes both hard drives clean, and re-installs tomorrow.
A technician was here today, and tried to fix it..he finally said it was totally corrupted, and since NY Grampa knows how to wipe the hard drive clean, and has put everything on the back up on the external hard drive, he will ask our computer geek kid some questions tomorrow before starting, just to be sure.

I do blame some of the buy/sell brokers and the mortgage brokers because I really think that in a lot of cases folks really didn't understand what they were getting into.
But when someone reads the RESPA Statement and the Truth in Lending Statement and it says your monthly nut for interest, principal, insurance and real estate taxes is only $250 LESS THAN YOU TAKE HOME EACH MONTH someone shoulda had a clue, ya know?

Here it starts at 10 bucks for a feed there. I went in about three weeks ago and was put off by the price. To give you an idea of monetary comparison, I went to the nextdoor noodle shop, 2 dishes and fried rice for $7. I had enough for a V left over.
That's like Taiwan prices.
KFC had a $20 special a couple of weeks back. Ten pieces of chicken, three large sides, four "strips", four biscuits.
But I like to "eat local", except maybe Somalia or Mexico. I love the pho shops here (too lazy to look for the hatted "o").

Yeah, Ike trimmed my tallest oak tree (in half), so we are lower to the ground now.
I had two trees that completely uprooted (missed the house, the garage AND the cars).
It was as if the ground got really soft and then the trees just came up out of the ground. One of them was next to the house and it had roots under the house, and when it fell, the whole house shook. Afterwards, we realized the force of the roots pulling up had twisted one of the piers under our porch by about 2 inches!

Could it have been something they ate?
Britain’s Health Protection Agency said yesterday about 400 people reported falling ill after eating at The Fat Duck, a world-famous British restaurant known for its bizarre dishes.
Blumenthal’s latest televised gastronomic adventure, “Heston’s Feasts,” includes deep-fried mealworms - injected with tomato-flavored paste for added gooeyness - and a pink “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired potion designed to taste like toffee, toast, custard, cherry pie and turkey.
I'm falling ill reading this.

re: #499 Desert Dog
Not sure. I had a Trojan, Back Door Bandok, on mine, and it took 2 days to finally get rid of it, and then it popped up on my husband's 2 days later. He is connected by a wireless router.
I truly am a computer dummy, but suspect that possibly the Trojan took a free trip through the router.
I also hold AOHell partially responsible, as we have McAfee, as we pay for AOL, and it is a part of the deal. I reinstalled it, as it was going off, and I would wake up and there was a warning that the computer was not protected and to open McAfee to fix the problem. I do not usually close down at night, but now I will, I am afraid. We also have Spyware Doctor, which found the Trojan, but took about 20 scans to clean it. It has not been a lot of fun the past few days. LGF? I could not see the spinoffs, nor really post, as there were no symbols on top of where the post is formulated.
The tech support from AOHell is pathetic..Philippines and India...they are like robots when they speak the Gospel of AOHell. If there is any way to get a real phone number for AOHell's HQ in the US? NY Grampa would tell them, very politely, just what he thinks of them. He is from Brooklyn, and very polite, while I am a Bostonian..trust me, the words 'proper Bostonian' are an oxymoron when used about me! ;)

I don't know who wrote that article, but it says this:
In Louisiana, Cajun-style gravy is often made with a roast beef instead of ham. Black coffee is always used, and it is frequently a strongly brewed chicory coffee.
My grandmother and mother could make the very best gravy with roast beef - I would often eat the gravy and rice but not the beef - but they never used coffee.

I think that is common with teenage girls, yes? I have an 18 year old who's as agreeable as can be...never a problem with him. His 17 year old brother is another matter...if he was not getting such good marks in school, I swear I would ship him off to the meanest nastiest military school I could find. I hope he grows out of this stage soon too. At least he is nice to his Mom.
Actually, my brother is 15 years my senior and he was the trouble maker. My mom devoted much time to his episodes, in fact my entire family does. What I hated was that I was the good one, so mom always assumed that Afrocity can handle herself, while he got most of the attention.

I'll say. The rental standard from what I understand is 3X take home pay. Which means a 2500/month mortgage would equal 7500/take home.

Actually, the Army has been saying this for a while. They want to try splitting the Taliban the same way as they split the Mahdi Army in Iraq. It might work as long we don't forget to hammer any who refuse our invitations. The idea should be to provide both positve and negative examples. Lawmaker takes on new role in Islamic advocacy group
State Sen. Larry Shaw has already gotten hate mail since he was named chairman of a national Muslim civil rights organization last week.
It’s nothing new, said the Fayetteville Democrat, the new chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
“I get a lot of hate mail,” Shaw said Friday. “Just because I’m Muslim and because of CAIR, what CAIR stands for.”
A lot more may be heading his way.
The eight-term legislator, whose District 21 covers Fort Bragg and much of Fayetteville, generally is a low-key politician. But assuming a top leadership post with CAIR could thrust Shaw into a controversial national spotlight.

The cost of the "Healthy Penis" campaign
We told you that Mark Bogetich, a Republican "political vulnerability researcher," had requested a variety of information about the Department of Public Health's new "Healthy Penis" campaign.
He wouldn't say why, but it could be used someday against Mayor Gavin Newsom in his run for governor. After all, health staffers walking around in giant penis costumes to promote syphillis testing might not play well in certain parts of the state.
The Public Health Department has prepared its response for Bogetich. Some of the information isn't available, such as the price of the costumes. But this is what we do know: The budget for the program this year is $122,575.
Of that, $59,980 is for advertising in the Bay Area Reporter, on Muni buses, and on 92.7 FM. The rest is for staff, including a part-time Web designer, creative director and product manager.
Our favorite "Healthy Penis"-related job is managing its presence on social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Yes, "Healthy Penis" will have its own Facebook page. We can only imagine the status updates.
Is $122,575 a reasonable price for promoting STD testing? Or is that too much considering the health department has been asked to cut $100 million of its $1 billion budget to help the city bridge its budget deficit? Discuss.

The Chicago Tribune is running a story about Obama's speechwriter - a 27 year old.
One day a young man was visiting the fair. Over to one side was a small tent
, with a sign that said 'For 50 dollars I'll teach you to be a mind reader
! - Apply within.'
So the young man thought that he'd give it a go, and went inside. Behind a small table inside was an old man, who looked up when the young man entered and says, 'Ah, you must be here for the mind reading lessons.'
'Er, yes,' the young man said.
'Well, follow me, and I'll give you your first lesson.'
Then the old man goes out the back of the tent and comes back with a hose. 'Here, hold this hose,' he said.
'Why?' said the young man.
'It's part of the lesson,' replies the old man, 'Now, look in the end and tell me what you see.'
So the young man looks into the end of the hose, and only sees darkness. 'I don't see anything,' he tells the old man.
Just then the old man turns on a tap, and the hose shoots water into the young man's face.
'I just knew you'd do something like that.' the young man shouts at the old man.
'There. You are now a mind reader!' the old man replies, 'That'll be 50 dollars!'

For the moonbat prof:
After The Goldrush
lyrics by Neil Young
---
Well, I dreamed I saw the knights
In armor coming,
Saying something about a queen.
There were peasants singing and
Drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree.
There was a fanfare blowing
To the sun
That was floating on the breeze.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.
I was lying in a burned out basement
With the full moon in my eyes.
I was hoping for replacement
When the sun burst thru the sky.
There was a band playing in my head
And I felt like getting high.
I was thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.
Thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.
Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home in the sun.
Flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home.

my anthro 101 teacher informed us with a perfectly serious face, that "the rich" were funding NASA's exploration of Mars, so they could set up colonies there, since they have destroyed the Earth with global warming, and that they would use global warming to make Mars habitable...
/she was *not* kidding: i asked.
My anthro prof taught me one really memorable thing the entire semester. During a particularly boring lecture about zombie culture, he took a detour to tell us about his own personal story (of cultural/social ostracism and its effects on the individual).
He was diagnosed with cancer and told he had 6 months to live. He was an individual with a strong will and mind. He said he rejected that death sentence, just flat rejected it. He went hog-wild on lifestyle and diet modifications. This was ten years before he told us the story, and he was cancer-free. I will never forget it.

Wonderful. It's official...no grown ups over at the White House. To see how good his speeches are. Listen to one, then read the text. You are right, they are canned. Full of generalizations and offer very little intellectually. With Obama, it's all about his "performance", not about what he is actually saying. You could always just write some blather. What I mean is just write some stereotypical "end of the world/I'm a victim" liberal pablum. I'm pretty sure you could come up with something. Add some slight irony and its a keeper.
naw... the author whined about cleaning hotels and houses, especially the latrines... i think i'll regale her with how it brought back all my fun times in the Army and how it taught me what was important in life and that quitting isn't a valid option.
IOW: she didn't do shit and when the pressure came on, she folded. a very subtle slam on the book and the author, and by extension her, for picking such twaddle,

As a squad of American soldiers was patrolling the Iraqi border, they came across a badly mangled dead body. As they got closer, they found it was an Iraqi Terrorist.
A short distance up the road, they found a badly mangled American soldier in a ditch on the other side of the road, struggling to breath. They ran to him, cradled his blood-covered head and asked him what had happened.
'Well,' he whispered, 'I was walking down this road, armed to the teeth when I came across this heavily armed Iraqi Terrorist . I looked him right in the eye and shouted, 'Osama Bin Ladin is an unscrupulous, lying piece of crap!''
'He looked me right in the eye and shouted back, Barak Obama is an unscrupulous, lying piece of crap!''

Right now, my daughter is at an age where I can't wait for her to leave. She's driving me nuts. And I'm driving her nuts. But I suspect that will change.
It is amazing when a daughter marries and has her first child. You become a fount of knowledge, and she will look up to you. Once my daughter (my 3 sons are not like my daughter!;) had her now 2 1/2 year old son? She was calling me all the time. From a resident of the NY State Home for the Terminally Stupid, I became her text book. And she still has a very much different relationship ever since, and we are very close...it is a wonderful time of life, as I do not have to keep a straight face when the little guy does something funny! That is a privilege we earn, as we had to keep a straight face when our kids were growing up!

My wife and I were already starting to give each other the "lets rap this up" signals when she dropped that bomb. I'm pissed with my buddy to for putting us in that situation. Make a "rescue" disk from your McAfee. That will allow you to reload programs. Otherwise, keep all your disks handy.
I had a hard drive failure a few years ago and I lost A LOT of stuff...most of the MP3 files bit the dust. I did not have them backed up. I was almost ready to hang myself until I remembered my friend copied them all to his external drive. I still lost pictures, documents...it was a drag. Since then, I am MR. BACKUP...everyday
NY Grampa here, too lazy to sign in. McAfee is not on the computer as the corruption will not allow us to download it from AOL.
If I copy the program files will that allow them to be re-installed without searching for discs or on-line? Thank you.

I agree with you. His actions show a hatred for all developed countries. He favors the "global poor", only his idea of favoring them is to cozy up to the tyrants who enslave them.

His father abandoned him. His mother was another narcissist. His grandmother was described during the campaign. He's ashamed of his college records -- allegedly. He's weak of intellect at the very least. He stumbles with his words without a teleprompter. And, there's more.

Program files will have to be re-installed. You will need the original disks or need to re-download. Windows applications just need it; sometimes due to Windows and sometimes due to the apps themselves.
Especially XP and later; getting out of "DLL Hell" required some "magic" windows doesn't explain anywhere, but the installer handles.

Me too. Some amazing things have happened to me since then though - I found, on eBay of all places, my mother's high school yearbook...I don't mean a copy, I mean the one that belonged to her. I also retrieved a copy of her high school biology notebook, and a scrapbook in which she had written her "life story" up to when she was 14.
I had never seen these items before, and had no idea they existed. Neither did my brother. The sellers bought them at an auction.
There is one more amazing spiritual story I have, but I'm not sure it's a good one for LGF...I will say, speaking only for myself of course, I have confidence that I have not seen the last of my parents.
I hope you've been able to find comfort too, Afrocity.

Afrocity:
At the risk of being tagged as a kook, I really want to tell you this story (as briefly as possible).
My mother was a singer (professional); she sounded good her entire life, and when she was in her seventies, she recorded the song "White Christmas" as a little family heirloom.
She died a couple of days before Christmas Eve, alone in the house I grew up in. I was in a terrible state of grief, and on Christmas Eve (the night we always celebrated Christmas in my family), I sat up until 4:00AM. I had remembered the CD of that song she made, and I was listening to it, going over the lyrics in my head...then it dawned on me - she was "home" for Christmas, and that made me feel better.
I prayed though...I asked God to give me a sign, for sure, that she was in heaven; I thought it would be really awesome if He could make it snow on Christmas morning, because of the lyrics "please have snow". After I asked God for that, I thought (what everyone reading this is probably thinking - LOL), "You are being ridiculous. That is never going to happen."
(I live in Seattle. We aren't known for white Christmases.)
I got up to go to bed, and turned on the radio for my dog...it was tuned to a talk station, but they were playing music. The song that was playing was "White Christmas". I was satisfied with that.
Christmas day, I didn't wake up until noon. When I got up, I checked my cell phone and there was a text from my best friend. He lives about five miles north of me. The text said only this: "It's snowing!" (He knew nothing of my prayer...and this text was intended for his daughter, not for me, by the way - he made a mistake.)
I ran to the window, no snow. Still, I put my boots on and went outside. By the time I got out there, the biggest snowflakes I had ever seen were falling all around me. I stood in it, just marveling - as I'm sure everyone else in Seattle was too, but for a different reason.
I swear on my life this is true. That's why I believe you had a sign, too.

SA is good, but I would not place them in the same category as Kimber.
