Galloway Hands Cash to Hamas

World • Views: 1,207

British MP George Galloway is nothing if not brazen. This may be the stunt that finally lands him in serious hot water, as he personally hands over 100 vehicles and thousands of dollars in cash to Hamas.

“We are giving you now 100 vehicles and all of their contents, and we make no apology for what I am about to say. We are giving them to the elected government of Palestine,” Galloway said at a press conference in Gaza City.

Galloway said he personally would be donating three cars and 25,000 pounds (35,000 dollars) to Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya as he dared the West to try to prosecute him for aiding what it considers a terror group. “I say now to the British and European governments, if you want to take me to court I promise you there is no jury in all of Britain who will convict me. They will convict you.”

Galloway made the announcement at an outdoor conference in the presence of several senior Hamas officials, and his words were greeted by shouts of “Allahu Akbar!” (God is Great).

Glancing at the headline of the previous thread re Galloway's convoy getting stoned, I could not help but think about pre-48 Jewish convoys being attacked with much worse outcomes, while the British, at best, did nothing about it. My sympathy quotient for Galloway and his ilk seems to be pretty low.

I think that the British government considers only the "military wing" of Hamas to be a terrorist group. So they certainly won't prosecute Galloway for this.

Read this letter from a British student on what's like being a Zionist and a Jew in the UK today:

Why I have nothing to be ashamed of

When I was campaigning to get elected at conference last year, I would go up to delegates and give them my election speech which revolved around my ARAF work and campaign on student housing. After speaking to one delegate, though, I was asked a question that I thought had nothing to do with my election. “Well, are you a Zionist?” A little taken a back, I said, “Yes, I believe in the concept of the state of Israel alongside the concept of the state of Palestine.” The delegate shook their head and said, “Sorry, I can’t vote for a racist,” and walked away. ..

After arriving in Gaza on Monday, Galloway protested Israel's "genocidal aggression" against Gaza, referring to a massive 22-day Israeli offensive launched in December that killed more than 1,300 Palestinians.

By this definiton, the American landings at Omaha Beach were also "genocidal aggression".

OT but way scary. The 0 is sending out his obamabots to ferret out those of us not on board with his agenda:

Obama hits panic button calls for minions to engage in civic unrest
The justified criticism of Barak Obama has gotten so bad so quickly following the announcement of his disasterous budget plans and his failure to address the root cause of our economic problems, that he has already hit the panic button. An e-mail went out to his minions to engage in civic unrest to support his radical agenda.

Much like the protests in New York City when 50,000 government dependents descended on city hall and demanded that the government tax the rich to keep them in their government services, so too are the Obama sychophants being activated to protest in his behalf throughout the country. Watch for the unrest to occur in each congressional district.

The move is odd considering that Obama controls the levers of power. Normally, civic unrest is directed at the government by those that oppose the government. The fact that Obama is calling on his supporters to protest is akin to the intimidation tactics used in Germany circa 1938. Is the next Kristillnacht going to occur here?

A clash of capitalists v. Obamunists seems inevitable.

American Thinker has a great piece on Gitmo detainees which will hopefully shut up 9/11 deniers:

The five detainees at Guantánamo Bay charged with planning the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have filed a document with the military commission at the United States naval base there expressing pride at their accomplishment and accepting full responsibility for the killing of nearly 3,000 people.

The document, which may be released publicly on Tuesday, uses the Arabic term for a consultative assembly in describing the five men as the “9/11 Shura Council,” and it says their actions were an offering to God, according to excerpts of the document that were read to a reporter by a government official who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The document is titled “The Islamic Response to the Government’s Nine Accusations,” the military judge at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp said in a separate filing, obtained by The New York Times, that describes the detainees’ document.

The document was filed on behalf of the five men, including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who has described himself as the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks.

re: #63 newsjunkie_ky

Hi newsjunkie! Interesting link. There does seem to be a little disconnect between the Conservative Edge's take and the Breitbart article they linked to.

Breitbart's article talks about:

"The pledge project is an ambitious effort to map out and identify support for President Obama's economic blueprint across towns and communities in America," Stewart said.

"We're doing that by asking people to pledge your support for the broad initiatives outlined in President Obama's economic plan.

"Once you do, we will ask you to build support in your own communities by forwarding this pledge by email, by knocking on doors and by making phone call," he said.

"We will show in every state, in every congressional district the hunger, for leadership and long range thinking that's in too short supply here in Washington."

They don't seem to be calling for "civic unrest" against the government. More of a call to support Obama's policies and contact their friends and neighbors asking them to do the same.

I grant ya that this could lead to protests, etc. however. But at this point, it doesn't seem like pushing a "panic button" as much as standard political maneuvering.

Well, there goes another show I watched. The U.N. ruins everything.

Not to worry, there are only 3 hours of it left. The series finally is playing out over the next two weeks.

Perhaps the UN is coming in to say what a vibrant and stunning show this is and that everyone should continue to watch it, in that day late and dollar short way that the UN has.

The British government does not consider Hamas to be a terrorist group. Only of its divisions, the Izz al-Din al-Qassem Brigades. And, while they have some problems with the al-Qassem Brigades, the British government actually seems rather keen on Hamas in general. Here's the official British Home Office description:

Your comment reminded me to pose a question:

The Senate, media, etc. put so much focus on waterboarding, and neither administration (Bush or current) really made any attempts to derail the discussion. I am wondering if by focusing on "waterboarding," the administrations have had a pretty free hand at using some of the other tactics in its toolbox. Anyone else get that idea. Its kind of like keeping the worlds focus on the "shiny object" of waterboarding while they use other, more effective and um . . uncomfortable tactics.

Ha ha, the DVD's should be regifted and the US notified. I heard they would not play in a British DVD player. I am not sure if that is a rumor.

I'm curious about this. I once tried to play a European DVD in my DVD player, and it wouldn't work. I was able to play it in my laptop, but I had to change my region from USA to Europe in order to make it work. Then I had to change the region back to USA after I had watched the movie. I'm only allowed to do that five times before no further changes are allowed.

I have this mental image of Gordon Brown and his family gathering around the telly at 10 Downing Street, expecting to watch "The Wizard of Oz," but then discovering that their DVD won't work because it's American. So then Gordon runs and gets his laptop, plunks it down on the coffee table, and spends half an hour crawling around behind the plasma TV, figuring out how to hook it up to his laptop, while his wife taps her fingers impatiently, and the kids start yawning. At last, Gordon starts up the PC, and a dialog box pops up on the plasma TV, with the message about changing the region configuration. So Gordon has to call Dell Technical Support and wait on hold for two hours so that he can ask them what to do. By that time, the kids are fast asleep, the wife is upstairs reading a magazine in bed, and Gordon is in the kitchen making her a nice cup of chamomile as a gesture of apology.

re: #170 Last Mohican

I don't know about the US but most high end DVD players are region free here in S Africa.

It's funny how it works politically. We had a moon bat pacifist couple show up at a Obama meet and greet, and the group tossed them under the bus. On the other hand the few conservatives in the group get free beer and lots of questions and attention. That's one of the reasons we like to get involved, we can watch the administration run something up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes. Right now, the union card check is the most unpopular idea.

233 Last Mohican  Tue, Mar 10, 2009 11:43:44am

re: #190 nyc redneck

then comes the children reporting on their parents.

Comes? It has already happened. The Obama campaign's website had a section called "kids," which instructed children on how to pressure their parents and grandparents into voting for Obama. Here's more about that, and here's a quote from the Obama campaign site:

The one thing most grandparents have in common is that they have the most wonderful grandchildren in the world - so clever, so handsome, so pretty, ever so precious. Even if you are still unsure of your path in life, and even if your parents and friends occasionally wonder about you, your grandma and grandpa love you and have faith in you.

That is your weapon! “Precious” needs to get on the phone and say, “Grandpa, Grandma, I am asking you to vote for Barack Obama. This is really important to me. It’s about my future. It’s about the world I will be living in. It’s about the world I want for my future children. (They will love that one!) Please! Do it for me!”

Put some urgency in your voice. Sound very disappointed in them if they give you excuses. Come back again, even harder. “This is about my future - my ability to get a good job, to live a healthy life, to have the same (or even more) opportunities than you had to succeed. I have never felt more strongly about anything. I am begging you to vote for Barack Obama. I need you to do this for me!”

This is just a sample script. You know what it takes to get to them.

Even Reuter's Scott Holland is casting stones at PBO.

Vaunted Obama message machine is off-key

Halfway through his first 100 days in office, ace communicator Obama has struggled to find the right tone in talking about the economy, twinning bleak warnings with optimism about the future.

On the campaign trail, Obama said a president must be able to do more than one thing at a time, and his White House has been doing that.

He and his aides have interspliced comments about the economy while launching theme-of-the-day initiatives on healthcare, stem cell research and on Tuesday, education.

Last week the White House spent some time accusing conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh of being leader of the Republican Party.

Maybe this is just me, but I assumed that I wouldn't like what Obama would do as President but I would be able to fit it nicely into the "its just politics" kind of dislike. You know where you are self-aware that your worry is just your own political bias. However, I have become increasingly worried that we may have an epically bad President here and the tide is going out. I mean has any President had as bad a first 100 days as this guy? Could we seriously be seeing the early stages of an ineptitude impeachment?

there is no such thing....or Bush would have suffered one

Again, step outside of the bubble. He's still wildly popular with his base, doing mostly what he promised to do. Like any President, the more he pisses off the other side, the happier the base is. GW was down into the 20's on approval ratings and no one impeached him, not likely to try that with a popular one after 50 days.

Beaten up. No. But I have inflicted sufficient pain to gain my objective, either getting a person to stop something or subduing someone.

If someone was beating on a woman, I'm more than willing to use sufficient force to stop the assault, but no more.

My cousin once tried to do that. This little guy was beating up his girlfriend on the street at bar time. My drunk 6 foot something cousin saunters over saying something like "why don't you pick on . . ." Before he finished, the "little guy," who happened to be a boxer, landed about 4-5 jabs dead center on his face. Of course, my cousin only realized this after he was able to pick himself up out of the gutter and get rid of the stars he was seeing. Guy and girl were long gone.

I can't imagine Galloway prancing around Gaza if GWB was still in office. Bush would have been on the hotline to London and asked that they rein him in pronto.

But with Barry's warm relationship with the PM, that ain't gonna happen. Nor does Barry or his feckless state department even give a damn.

Again, step outside of the bubble. He's still wildly popular with his base, doing mostly what he promised to do. Like any President, the more he pisses off the other side, the happier the base is. GW was down into the 20's on approval ratings and no one impeached him, not likely to try that with a popular one after 50 days.

Not to read too much significance into Obama's approval rating - according to Gallup, the only former President whose approval rating after the first month was higher than Barack Hussein Obama was Jimmy Carter.

Fact check

Hey, I realize that that Obama quote has likely been blown out of proportion, but to claim that "Security Force" = "Peace Corps" or "AmeriCorps" or "USA Freedom Corps" is just silly. None of those last three have anything to do with "Security".

Here's the relevant part of his speech:

Obama, July 2, Colorado Springs, CO: [As] president I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots [from 75,000] and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals, like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their effort connected to a common purpose.

People of all ages, stations and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem – they are the answer. So we are going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We'll call on Americans to join an energy corps, to conduct renewable energy and environmental clean-up projects in their neighborhoods all across the country.

We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, and to be there for our military families. And we're going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set.

We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. We need to use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where American can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment and skill sets. You'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities.

In context, he's speaking of a variety of service options that will make up his new plan, one of which is a "civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded".

It's a specific mention of a separate force that is not part of the three others mentioned in your link.

Oh....and the link is from annenberg.... hardly objective as can be seen in their characterization of "civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as "exaggerated"...... it's a direct quote, not an exaggeration.

Yes. It is very common for the person getting the kapok knocked out of them to form a unite front with the abuser, with both attacking the intervening officers.

From my local paper today:

Two officers injured making arrest
By Linda Spice of the Journal Sentinel

Mar. 10, 2009 11:10 a.m. %P% Two Milwaukee police officers suffered minor injuries after being attacked during a family disturbance on the city's north side Monday night.

Milwaukee police said Tuesday that officers responded to a home in the 3500 block of N. 9th St. for the disturbance just before midnight.

The officers arrested a 39-year-old man at the home and then were attacked by two women, ages 37 and 18, striking them, according to police.

All three people remain in custody Tuesday morning, according to police.

There was no further information on the officers' condition or injuries.

As much as I despise unions and especially the Teacher's Union for the stranglehold they have on local, state, and national politics and in as much as I am totally FOR teacher merit pay, I'm NOT sure I'm for Obama or any political party determining teacher merit. What is politically correct could be the determiner for "merit" under left-wing governments and faith issues could be the determiner for "merit" under

This friend is all action, he dead sprints over at the dude and jump flying side something kicks him in the side of the neck. Next thing he knows he is getting pummeled from behind by a bloody and bruised girl, "I love him! Get away! (spits out tooth as she screams...)"

Early Saint Patricks Day joke,
Paddy is doing loops around the block looking for a parking space & he is late for an important meeting.

Miraculously a space appears.
Paddy looks back up & says, "Never mind, I found one."

I don't know. VCRs used to be totally different formats between Britain and the U.S., but I don't know if DVDs are the same.

The VCR problem is that the British and American TVs use different formats.
It takes extra technology to handle both formats, but such players do exist.
The problem was due to differences in the TV standards (number of lines, frequency, and color encoding.)

DVDs have a deliberate encoding (the "area") that prevents them from being played in a player set to a different area. This is specifically to prevent DVDs that are cheap in one location from being sold elsewhere.
(A DVD can be set to have no area, and it will play in all players)

I believe it. I was "outed" at a Halloween party as a conservative and it was awkward to say the least. I think I was the only one in the room. Luckily they weren't moonbats, just Dems, and were just curious (because they'd probably never seen a conservative before that would admit it).

Now, take strangers snooping on strangers, convinced they're doing the right thing...

I was at a Fourth of July barbecue party a few years back where one of the guests suddenly realized that she and her husband were the only Republicans in the back yard. I don't recall what tipped her off, but suddenly she's peering at all of us as though we've grown extra heads and saying "You voted for Clinton? Really? ALL of you?"

We had a lovely afternoon after that, although I did think for a moment that she might try to go over the fence and make a run for it.

I don't know. VCRs used to be totally different formats between Britain and the U.S., but I don't know if DVDs are the same.

The TV video standards are different. That was the difference in the VCR tape. Standard definition TV in the US uses NTSC and GB (and most of Europe) uses PAL (Except France which uses a weird flavor of PAL, PAL-M IIRC). This has been addressed with the move to HDTV. For anyone involved in any sort of engineering that touched on video it has always been a bit of a headache.

So, the supposed financial wizard Jon Corzine announced his budget today. He waved a wand and proclaimed that his budget is smaller than when he proposed his first one in 2006. Alas, it is all just so much blather, because he's hidden the real costs in plain sight.

The real budget is $33 billion - or no change over last year. He's accomplished this with higher taxes (you don't say), higher fees (you don't say) eliminating pension payments (oooh, that's gonna leave a mark), the porkfest portion for NJ (medicare and education adjustments) and worst of all, eliminating property tax relief for non-seniors making over $75,000 - in a state where the median income is $67,000. That's a not so stealthy tax hike costing thousands per homeowner. If the average homeowner got a $1,000 check last year from property tax relief, this year, that's gone. I call it a tax hike. Corzine would rather call it revenue adjustment.

Maybe. It could be more random, or it could actually be sinister in intent. A commentor called "dpwiener" over there gave two reasons:

Basically there are two possibilities: (1) This is a run-of-the-mill computer-generated audit. (2) Somebody in the IRS or Treasury Department heard about your Tax Cheat stamp idea, was annoyed, and decided to harass you with an audit.

It is known that Clinton and Nixon used the IRS against people they didn't like, and FDR went after rich people who he thought were using loopholes.

It's worth following to see what comes of it.

The first color tv standard was in the US, called NTSC (Never The Same Color).
Then came the French standard, SECAM (Something Essentially Contrary to the American Method)
Finally, the British developed PAL (Perfect At Last)

(I forgot what SECAM really stands for, but it is probably in French. NTSC really stands for National Television Standards Committee, and PAL stands for Phase Alternating Level (or logic?))

Not to question your intent at all but how many people who say things like this have ever been beaten up. I mean really beaten. Further how many people actually have beaten someone else up.

I have experienced both and both experiences are extremely visceral. Obviously getting beaten up not only hurt physically but it was extremely humiliating mentally. But I would have to say beating someone else up (and it was a male about my size and age by the way) was profoundly unnerving and still haunts me to this day. I feel I donated some of my soul by doing this and I will never get it all back.

It was the second attack since Sunday to kill more than two dozen people, suggesting a renewed ability by insurgents to mount effective suicide bombings, after a long period in which such attacks were relatively few and less lethal because of heavy security precautions.

Which would not be an altogether bad thing if not for the fact that the IRS are themselves populated by a large number of total incompetents and complete morons. I get 1099s (lots of them sometimes) and in 2004, some idiot in Ogden UT added 3 zeros to the number to one of them in the box that says "non-employee compensation". That left me on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars in taxes that I not only did not owe, but never earned in the first place. Talk about a nightmare. Of course, I sent them a bill for the hundred hours out of my life that it took to clear that up, and they compensated me at my normal rate of pay. Oh, wait a minute, no THEY DIDN'T. So, they basically stole a piece of my life and I never got it back. I have heard of many in my field having this same exact problem. Fucking morons with badges, no less.

I've seen both of those names used for PAL. I think Level is the official one. I worked on a video editing system at the first company I worked for out of school with my shiny new BSEE. We handled all the different formats but didn't do any transcoding. I got pretty familiar with them.

I'm not worried about the Blue Shirts showing up at my door. However, the Presidents choice of descriptions is awkward at best. A "National Security Force" is the wrong name for enlarging volunteer service organizations. Why not call it a National Service Force or National Volunteer Force?

The Presidents failure to communicate well or his calls to "get in the oppositions face" could inspire some thug to open a can of whoop ass on the next College Republican he runs across.

Given the carefully crafted messages during the campaign I cannot imagine his language was completely accidental in this respect. Being charitable I can imagine it was an inelegant attempt to name his future volunteer force in a way that would appeal to the conservative backers of the armed services. That would be a mistake too.

572 zombie  Tue, Mar 10, 2009 12:56:57pm

In case anyone's interested:

The Extreme Mohammed page is back on zombietime!

The backstory:

The Extreme Mohammed page has always generated fatwas and death threats. But 99.9% of the time, they are sent directly to me. A year or so ago, some sophisticated cyber-jihadist managed to trace the exact location of the building (in a different state) where the server hosting the Mohammed Image Archive was located. (It's one of those nondescript "server farms" where hosting companies lease servers and then re-sell the space). Then this jihadist sent a violent threat to the supervisor of that building, unless they deleted my Extreme Mohammed directory. Well, that threat was forwarded up the chain of command, and well, the orders came back to me, from the hosting company's supplier: Delete that directory, or find a different server for it. Period. So, I complied, and a helpful volunteer here at LGF offered to host that one page on their site. And thus for a year the Extreme Mohammed page was hosted "offsite" from zombietime, with a different URL.

So much for the backstory. But just a couple days ago, the volunteer's site's domain "expired" (guess they lost interest in it), and so I was back to square one. But, as things turn out, the original threat to the building has been forgotten or deemed ignorable, so I was allowed to re-open the directory. (It was an empty threat to begin with, but that's a different story.) So, after a year in exile, and a week offline, Extreme Mohammed is back home at zombietime! Woo-hoo! Let the fatwas re-commence.

re: #527 eschew_obfuscation

Don't khaffiyehs worn by "Palestinians" typically have a distinctive "net" design on them ....Black or green on white... look like checkers or a hounds tooth pattern from a distance.

I do see a lot of scarves worn now days, but most don't have that pattern or color.

The traditional/real khaffiyeh is black and white or red and white, and while patterns vary by region and family, the basic pattern is checkered. The British armed forces issue them to their troops in the ME/North Africa, and theirs are, IIRC, plain white weave.

Fashion scarves based on khaffiyehs come in all kind of weird colors, with black patterning, but the pattern is similar enough to be obviously based on khaffiyeh designs. There are also a lot of scarves with vaguely similar looks--like the paisley thing Rachel Ray was wearing a while back that got such an outcry.

Used to be, the only people you saw wearing them were Arab men who wore them on their heads, or Jewish American women who bought them on vacation in Israel and paired them with Guatemalan earrings.

Pelosi Made Repeated Requests for Military Aircraft, Documents Show

And get this part, particularly the parts I've bolded:

The e-mails showed repeated attempts by Pelosi aides to request aircraft, sometimes aggressively, and by Department of Defense officials to accommodate them.
. . .
The group reported that Pelosi was notorious for making special demands for high-end aircraft, lodging last-minute cancellations, and racking up additional expenses for the military.

In one e-mail, aide Kay King complained to the military that they had not made available any aircraft the House speaker wanted for Memorial Day recess.

"It is my understanding there are NO G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable ... The Speaker will want to know where the planes are," King wrote.

In another, when told a certain type of aircraft would not be available, King wrote: "This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset Speaker."
Pelosi's office has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Awkward hell, it was a stupid description and just played into the fears of the right.

Years ago, a bank reported some huge amount of interest, and the IRS sent me a letter for that, as well as a mistake I did make. (A bonus wasn't included in the usual box on my W2 and I missed it.)
I agreed to the small difference for the bonus, but contested the interest, and they accepted it. This was over 10 years ago, and they never got back to me about it. It really looked bogus, because the "account number" was really garbled.

China is busy testing Obama's resolve, now claiming that the US violated international law with its operation of the USNS Impeccable in waters China claims is a special economic zone in the South China Sea. Sorry, but that's just a smokescreen since international water puts the Chinese border far closer to shore than where the Impeccable was operating.

In other words, the Impeccable was more than within its rights to be operating there, and the Chinese were busy trying to thwart the Navy's mission - up to and including destroying US property in the process - the sonar systems and equipment operated from the Impeccable.

I hope there are real financial number crunchers taking a look at their "leaky" word of profits. Could be a classic case of sand-bagging.

Sort of like Richard Whitney coming onto the floor on Oct. 25, 1929 and buying $20 million worth of US Steel stock, when all he was really trying to do was halt the slide, so his buddies could get out at a better price?

My understanding (weak) is that they don't have an income statement problem and are profitable, but that their capital situation is bad and worsening as claims against credit default swaps rise and their stock price falls.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has treated the Air Force as her "personal airline."

They should just tell her the planes are down for maintenance. And if she insists send her office a couple of parachutes. Tell her she'll be needing them on her trip.

MP George Galloway has "quickie" divorce with second wife
20/01/2009
MP George Galloway was divorced by his second wife in a "quickie" action yesterday - two years after he had a son by Lebanese researcher Rima Husseini.
Palestinian Dr Amineh Abu-Zayyad, 42, who still lives with the Respect leader, 54, in London, cited unreasonable behaviour.
She had complained of his friendships with other women including Husseini, whom he calls "Wife No3".

Could this be part of the divorce settlement?/

My guess is that he's looking to score wife number 4 by spreading around some cash down in Gaza.

I sold all my C this morning, as well as the call options I had for it for June. I still have the September ones though. I was up 30-50% on everything I had except for them and the silver ETF in the course of 2 days.

The initial 200 point gap up was due to C, the rest of it was CNBC lemmings jumping into buy on Fwank statements, and a short covering rally that it produced.

Should I cash out on my one day gains then or wait a bit ? My broker predicted over 7000 by 1 April, but I'm still nervous about Friday's numbers.

Yippee.... A whole new Federal Department.

H.R. 875: Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009

And no I don't see the conspiracy nutters idea they'll seize home grown food. They can seize regulated foods, home grown is not regulated.

Dammit! We don't need another damned redundant agency! That's what the FDA and USDA are for!

re: #309 Big Steve

Not to question your intent at all but how many people who say things like this have ever been beaten up. I mean really beaten. Further how many people actually have beaten someone else up.

I have experienced both and both experiences are extremely visceral. Obviously getting beaten up not only hurt physically but it was extremely humiliating mentally. But I would have to say beating someone else up (and it was a male about my size and age by the way) was profoundly unnerving and still haunts me to this day. I feel I donated some of my soul by doing this and I will never get it all back.

Depends on what you mean by "beat" & "beaten."

I was continually beaten as a child - once to the point where I could not walk properly. It is, in fact, why I have always been ready to use physical violence when necessary - no one will be allowed to mistreat me ever again. However, it is most ironic that by the time I grew large enough to administer it, people stopped messing with me. The one time I was in a position to beat the living daylights out of someone who richly deserved it, I would have done so without hesitation, but was pulled off the perp by 3 men. This was over 17 years ago, and I feel to this day that I would like to go over to where this guys lives, drag him out of his house & beat him, this time in front of his wife & daughters. If anything, I feel a piece of my soul was stolen by the fact that I was not never able to repay those who have visited violence upon me.

re: #542 Nevergiveup

Say hello to Bubba for me OK?

Er, we don't file either. The IRS knows we're here, but after (I think) three years of filing with just Mr. Empire's military retirement, and our Social Security, we got a note that they wouldn't even be sending us the forms any more. Still have to file for the state, but we're under the income limits to pay there, too.

re: #544 MandyManners

Isn't that illegal?

Depends. We don't file because they told us not to bother.

The international criminal George Galloway in Gaza meeting with terrorists Hama in Gaza -- a perfect match of two ignorant entities. It would be nice if someone took him on to the offer of prosecuting him. On what charge I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me that if one were to criticize his actions with the terrorists in Hamas that it would be construed as a hate crime in the United Kingdom.

There is no doubt in my mind that a great deal of weapons are being taken into Gaza under the cover of "humanitarian assistance."

“I say now to the British and European governments, if you want to take me to court I promise you there is no jury in all of Britain who will convict me. They will convict you.”

Willing to test that out George?
The rest of us are hoping so...

re: #731 anotherindyfilmguy

What happens if he is prosecuted and convicted? Does Galloway get to keep his seat in Parliament?

Read this letter from a British student on what's like being a Zionist and a Jew in the UK today:

Why I have nothing to be ashamed of

When I was campaigning to get elected at conference last year, I would go up to delegates and give them my election speech which revolved around my ARAF work and campaign on student housing. After speaking to one delegate, though, I was asked a question that I thought had nothing to do with my election. “Well, are you a Zionist?” A little taken a back, I said, “Yes, I believe in the concept of the state of Israel alongside the concept of the state of Palestine.” The delegate shook their head and said, “Sorry, I can’t vote for a racist,” and walked away. ..

An interesting photo in this related Sky News article:
[Link: news.sky.com...]
At the bottom of the article is a picture gallery. Go to picture 13 of 50. Read the banner across the top of the van: "From the river [to the sea], Palestine will be free."
Clearly, this humanitarian aid convoy does not support a "Two State Solution."

re: #705 Kosh's Shadow

If you call Gaza an open-air prison, then you should likewise call Israel an open-air prison. If an Israeli were to cross any of Israel's borders into a neighboring Arab state, they would be killed instantly. I don't hear anyone calling to open Israel's borders. "End the blockade of Israel!" (clenched fist waving in the air)

That's not Ismail Haniya in that picture with Galloway. Not unless Haniya has recently taken to cutting his hair in the the standard male pattern balding pattern. The beard is similar, but there's way to much forehead showing...

Can't thank you enough for these links - you can be sure I will disseminate them as much as possible. (I found the irony of the "professional photographer" "Kashklink" too much to bear - he praised her for "getting the facts out" when his own photostream was nothing but a stream of hatred for Israel)
