Shoe Tosser Gets 3 Years

World • Views: 2,308

The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President Bush has been sentenced to three years in jail, and people who think it’s cool to assault the President of the United States are seething and whining.

Chief defense attorney Dhia al-Saadi then demanded that the charge be dismissed, saying his client’s action “was an expression of freedom and does not constitute a crime.”

He echoed al-Zeidi’s testimony at the previous hearing, saying his client had been provoked by anger over Bush’s claims of success in a war that has devastated his country.

“It was an act of throwing a shoe and not a rocket. It was meant as an insult to the occupation,” the lawyer said.

I get it. It’s okay to toss a shoe at a Republican, not a Democrat. The logic is clear (///).

Somebody oughta throw a shoe at him and see what he thinks.

I think part of the reason for the severity of the punishment is that Arab’s have that cultural imperative to show hospitality even to an enemy. But that said, I think the President will pardon him before the next elections as a vote getting stunt.

Let’s see - it was assault and battery, which if any of these BDS infected twits were hit with, they would be demanding the harshest punishment to the perpetrator.

Instead, they’re engaging in the typical situational ethics that defines the modern left. It has nothing to do with the crime, and everything to do with the feelings of the criminal - and in this case now convicted criminal.

That’s his right to appeal, and note also that if he even attempted such a thing during the Saddam years, we would never hear from the guy again (let alone his family). They’d all be disappeared by Saddam’s thugs.

This is the rule of law, and they’re dealing with the case judiciously. The left can’t bear to stand such a thing and for years pined for the Saddam years - wishing that Bush never overthrew that odious regime and calling Bush the criminal despite Saddam’s war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing.

What if a grenade was in the shoe or the second thing he threw was a knife. In fact, I believe it was a security breech, in the times in which we live today, he should have been taken out before he could throw the second shoe. The reporters would have been highly screened before getting into a room with GWB. The chance of a smuggled weapon very low, that explains the position of the Presidents Detail at the periphery of the room, it was considered a low threat environment. The reporter was more or less toward the middle when the throwing started.

You can’t have the press question the president nekkid to eliminate all possible threats. As far as security breaches go it was fairly minor, the guy only had his shoes to work with which says the screening worked.

As to the rest I agree.

FBI Raids Offices of Obama’s Cheif Technology Officer

Pretty much that’s all there is for the moment. No reason offered as to why.

Somewhat related — Obama decided to appoint Tony Ward, John “American Taliban” Lindh’s zealous lawyer, to the Justice Department’s Civil Rights division.

And also related: the San Francisco Police Union accuses Bill Ayers and Bernie Dorhn of direct involvement with the police station bombing that killed St. Brian McDonnell.

Brumley admitted that the somebody in the Vatican should have Googled Williamson’s name before rescinding his excommunication. They also screwed up by not making it clear that Williamson and the other were not being made bishops in the Church, just that they were being allowed to receive communion, to try to bring the SSPX followers back into the Church.

Yes, well - guns (even sports guns, like for Olympic competitions!) have been outlawd in the UK for some time - so the only ones using it are criminals.
People still get killed by guns.
And where the criminals can’t get guns, they use knives.
Knives also kill people.

Absolutely - but they, or rather Pope Benedict XVI, acknowledges this and apologises for it.
I’m not a Catholic - but when was the last time a politician has acknowledged he made a mistake, and apologised for it?

Nope, it doesn’t. An armed population works very well however.

Try this:

“How dare you?” Fleischer and Matthews hammer each other over Bush, Iraq

190 Kronocide  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 9:11:37am

The guy is an idiot and an asshole, and should get punishment. But 3 years? Hmmm….

If he did it in SF, they’d throw a parade for him with Sean Penn playing him in a movie, with well earned Oscars no doubt to follow.

Partial transcript.

The big thing is the way it went down, Ari wouldn’t let Matthews change the subject, or get away with any bullshit. When Matthews didn’t like Ari’s answer he’d try talking over Ari, but Ari beat him at that too.

I was just reading an article about Palin’s e-mail hacker having new charges and the comments section after the article was riddled with people who were outraged the guy was being prosecuted at all. It was simply bizarre.

While Clinton was president he was on an overseas trip and someone threw an egg at him. Hit him in the shoulder. I was demanding to know why the Secret Service hadn’t shot the perp. I still want to know why it was allowed to happen.

I hate Bill Clinton. I hated him then. But he was president and he was assaulted and that’s all there is to it.

Leftists are the most insane batch of creatures I’ve ever seen. And there’s just so darn many of them it boggles the mind.

You can also use the “Linkviewer” and put something like “Hardball” in the filter, or today’s date in the date thingy, to find links that have fallen off the page.

I did not know that. Thanks.

More Ari, please. We need somebody who can speak effectively against the tinglers.

now change the subject once more

Sorry, missed that, but we discussed the CBO list of options last month. The report listing that option was released before BHO was POTUS (early Jan) and prepared last year. It was one of dozens of options to be considered and I’m confident neither GW,BHO or Congress would choose it. You can call me on it, if it is, but the CBO just submits budget options, none of which need to be approved.

It really is, isn’t it? They WILL find some tiny issue, somewhere and try to get rid of him. But, he’s very popular there, and across the nation, if it’s at all possible, we need to support him(easy part), and keep them from taking him out….

This is incredible- it is already a minor miracle we can still attract qualified people to public service jobs where they make obscenely small salaries for the privilege of putting their lives on the line. Now this kind of crap added to the already scary prospect of Mexican drug cartels crossing the border… Grrrrrrrr

So when do they call for a probe into ACORNs activities?

207 Amer-I-Can  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 9:56:35am

At least it’s not 3 years followed by a trip to the wood chipper.

Thank You Mr. Bush!

208 FabioC.  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 10:20:19am

I saw the video - as anyone else here, I’d bet.

The journalist threw his shoes hard and straight at Bush’s head; that projectile can produce leasions of a certain seriousness, eye damage in the worst case.

In other words, it was not free speech but assault.

209 spacecadet36  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 11:08:49am

People are missing the essential hypocrisy in this. When he threw the shoes at President Bush, he was hailed as a hero, as being so brave to show his disdain. But what is the definition of a hero? Doing what’s right no matter what the consequences are. If he really thought that what he did was heroic, he should be happy to suffer the consequences and go to prison. If he did it expecting to get off without any repercussions, well how brave and heroic is that?

Gus802 -

Was good to watch this and remember how good Ari Fleischer was as Press Sec. Was a shame to see him go at the time. Not Tony Snow, AND Damned Good Anyway. Would he had gone a step further and reminded Matthews that the “verdict” on the Saddam Hussein regime was shared by
the intelligence agencies of “Old Europe” and that the Democratic Party made LOTS of noises that “BUSH 41” did not “finish the job” in Gulf War I.
“BUSH 43” DID FINISH THE JOB in Gulf War II as far as the Saddam Hussein regime - and they complain. Of course they do - It is Politics - a GAME - which is not “BEANBAG.”

212 changomo  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 4:49:41pm

I think the shoe thrower is ungrateful idiot - however I also feel 3 years is excessive for throwing a shoe.

I actually think a good PR move for Bush would be to ask him to be pardoned. It would be a class act in my opinion.

213 Jimmah  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 6:09:32pm

The word “tosser” is interchangeable with “wanker” in the uk. The people who sympathize with this act and whine about the perp being jailed are therefore ‘tossers’.

214 leereyno  Thu, Mar 12, 2009 6:37:32pm

Three years?

Were these steel toed moccasins with kung-fu action or what?

I’m no fan of this guy and think what he did was childish, but three years in prison? Just because the guy he thew his shoes at was the president of the united states doesn’t make the act something other than what it was, a temper tantrum by an ignoramus.

But I guess they have to “send a message” or else other people will start throwing stuff bigger and more dangerous than a pair of Nikes.

If it were me, I’d give him 5 years probation and 6 months in jail, with the time he’s already done counting towards that.

Just because this idiot is the darling of our enemies on the left doesn’t mean we have to act like idiots about what he did.

Absolutely, nothing to lose and everything to gain. Of course if he were to do that you’d hear nary a peep about it from the Marxist Socialist Media.
