Bomb Scare in Amsterdam Leads to Arrests

World • Views: 4,051

Seven people (reportedly of Moroccan-Dutch heritage) were arrested today in connection with a bomb scare in Amsterdam:

Amsterdam Mayor Cohen says the threat was aimed at stores. What stores exactly remains unclear. The offices, however, have not been closed. Reporters asked Cohen about this - why not also evacuate offices? - he answered that the threat was only aimed at shops. Shops, he said, attract more people.

It’s a strange thing to say considering the fact that people also work in office buildings. If the threat is serious - and I’m getting the impression it is considering the arrests - offices too should be evacuated and sealed.

MAJOR UPDATE

Seven individuals from Moroccan heritage were arrested. One of them is a relative of one of those who committed a major terrorist attack in Madrid, Spain, in 2004.

Shops remain closed, as does the Heineken Music Hall.

ANOTHER UPDATE

Police responded to a tip from someone in Brussels, Belgium. The tipster said extremists planned to set off bombs in several shops in order to kill as many innocent civilians as possible. The Dutch intelligence bureau responded immediately, arresting the seven individuals.

The other day in Luton UK some islamic nazis shouted abuse at British soldiers during an Iraq home-coming march. Tim Blair has a side of the event that I certainly didn't see anywhere else. The English people who turned out for the parade pretty much chased the islamists down the street, along with their police escort.

I'm pretty sure this aspect of the story was ignored in other media. The BBC for instance usually wants its readers to think they cannot do anything about the growing cancer in their midst.

In case you're thinking this is a *new* development, think again. We lived in Germany in the early '70s and there were urban bombings and bomb scares constantly. Baader Meinhoff teamed with Red Brigade/Palis. The Euros put up with it (think Munich Olympics '72). The German police didn't show up until it was over. However, they did manage to send 2 personnel carriers of up-armed riot police swat type guys to the front yard of our American high school where they bravely chased down a skinny 16 year old kid who apparently had left our campus and housing area and shoplifted something (says them). They beat the crap out of him with all of us watching. So this is nothing new under the sun. The new thing will be when Iran or the Paki army give these creeps suitcase bombs or similar. Then, they'll ruin a city because the Euros have been too civilized or chicken or lazy or what to face down these civilian bombers (for decades).

From the dead thread...I just had to share this:

OMG. I wrote a letter to Bob Casey about bringing Gitmo detainees to American soil. He just doesn't get it:

His response:

Dear Ms. xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the planned closure of the Guantanamo Bay military detention facility. I appreciate hearing from all Pennsylvanians about the issues that matter most to them.

On his second day in office, President Obama signed an executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility for suspected terrorists within one year. Furthermore, all military commission trials have been suspended pending a 120-day review. With approximately 245 detainees still being held at the Guantanamo facility, a thorough review is needed that assesses the security implications of trying detainees within the U.S. judicial system, transferring them to U.S. military prisons or extraditing them to other countries.

Reports indicate that four military prisons -- in Kansas, California, South Carolina and Colorado -- have been mentioned as potential sites to hold detainees upon closure of the Guantanamo Bay facility. We have no reason to believe that detainees will be transferred to Pennsylvania since the Department of Defense does not operate a military prison in the state.

As your United States Senator, I believe in a firm commitment to upholding our laws and values and that any change in U.S. detainee policy must be transparent, credible and protect the American people. I am pleased that President Obama has established a task force to comprehensively review U.S. detainee policy. Please be assured that I will carefully examine the executive order closing the facility as well as any new policy that comes out of the current review process.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter of importance to you.

If you have access to the Internet, I encourage you to visit my web site, [Link: casey.senate.gov....] I invite you to use this online office as a comprehensive resource to stay up-to-date on my work in Washington, request assistance from my office or share with me your thoughts on the issues that matter most to you and to Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,
Bob Casey
United States Senator

MY response to this:
Sir, I am not just concerned with them being released in PA. I don't want them release in the United States of America at all! Just look at how many have already been released and returned to their evil ways. KEEP THEM OUT OF THE UNITED STATES! Ship them back home where they can bask in the glories of sharia law and barbarism. That is what they want. Why should the "Great Satan" offer them anything but a trip home to the fabulous paradise from which they came? NO GITMO DETAINEES IN THE US. PERIOD.

Amsterdam police foils terror attack on shopping mall

The arrests follow a telephone warning to Amsterdam police late on Wednesday evening, police chief Bernard Welten said on Thursday evening. The caller from Brussels said three people were planning an attack using explosive devices in or near a major department store in the southeast of Amsterdam. The aim was to cause as many casualties as possible, the caller said.

Public prosecutor Herman Bolhaar told the press that the caller was a relative of one of the perpetrators of the train bombings in Madrid, five years ago. The six men and one woman who were arrested are between 19 and 64 years of age; all of them are Dutch citizens of Moroccan origin. House search by Amsterdam police, 12 Mar 09 NOSAll of them are charged with preparing an act of terrorism. After these arrests, police say the threat has been eliminated, but the prosecutor added that more people may be arrested.

Was he calling in a warning like the IRA or was he narcing out his buddies?

Did these people offend the bomb? Did they call it names and scare it? Is the bomb of Islamic heritage and these people displayed Islamophobia in dealing with it?

This just makes no sense to me.

Could be. Did you mention that above -- I haven't looked. Usually it involves some preemptive activity. Were there any bomb scares in Spain prior to the bombing?

Didn't some actor notice a run-through before 9-11?

Clean your monitor. It must be blurry. I mean that when the Dutch show signs of "waking up" to the very real threat of what is attacking them....(WAIT FOR IT)....Good for them!
Yea!

Ok, it sounded like you were implying that is was "good" that these people were attempting to attack the Dutch. Now it's clear what you were saying.

Thanks.

"It's so wet on this polder,
But it's where we farm, wavy
North Sea held by dikes, navy
Boats make sure that Hans Brinker's not due.

We have cowchips and kine here,
On the grass they munch, sav'ry
Is each tender bite, save me
From the lure of bovine love.

People say that we can reclaim
The land while we drink Dutch gin.
But we must stay in a sober way
Or North Sea pools might rush in.

It's so wet on this polder
But it's where we farm, wavy
North Sea held by dikes. Cold feet--
It's so wet on this polder."

They intended to do good. But when you feed "the people" you free up resources for the regime. And in this case the regime funneled "relief" supplies directly to the enemy troops.

I see. Supplies are fungible, so when you send them to a belligerant, you're helping him out.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, was supposed to have been on the flight out of Logan (Flight 11, I believe it was) but missed it. Any way that you can allieviate some of the economic pressure that they are under helps the war effort. Food, clothing, basic necessities, hard currancy, etc. are as helpful as machineguns and bullets, even recruits for their military. A man who used to work on an assembly line making widgets (no matter what the widget is) can become a soldier carrying a gun if Country C is supplying the widget demand for Country A.

That's why the whole notion of supplying "humanitarian" aid is effectivly prolonging and deepening the conflict. It may make the donors feel good, but in the real world they are basically helping the soldiers of country A kill the soldiers of Country B.

Could someone explain to me how the stimulus money, going to "shovel ready" projects, will put Americans to work?

Our department of transportation in Colorado is about to open bidding for 5 projects which will be paid for by federal stimulus money.

Most of the contractors who bid for Colorado Department of Transportation projects in this state have been supporting state projects for years. And most of them use illegals to staff the projects.

So, same old construction firms, same old project leaders and engineers and same old illegal's doing the grunt work.

How does this create "new" jobs?

At the emergency meeting of the UN regarding another conflict in the Middle East, the floor has been given to the Israeli Consul.

The Israeli Consul began, "Ladies and gentlemen before I commence with my speech, I wanted to relay an old story to all of you... ...When Moses was leading the Jews out of Egypt he had to go through deserts, and prairies, and even more deserts... The people became thirsty and needed water.

So Moses struck the side of a mountain with his cane and at the sight of that mountain a pond appeared with crystal clean, cool water. And the people rejoiced and drank to their hearts' content. Moses wished to cleanse his whole body, so he went over to the other side of the pond, took all of his clothes off and dove into the cool waters.

Only when Moses came out of the water he discovered that all his clothes had been stolen... And I have reasons to believe that the Palestinians stole his clothes."

Yassir Arafat, hearing this accusation, jumps out of his seat and screams, "This is a travesty...It's A lie ! It is widely known that there were no Palestinians there at the time!"

"And in agreement with Chairman Arafat," said the Israeli Consul, "let me begin my speech..."

Awesomely said.

Can some one explain to me, how it is in Europe that members of the ROP can come out in the open, scream for the deaths of lots of people, and then repeatedly attempt to kill or even kill Europeans, and yet, it is all our (either America's, Israel's, all the Jews in general, or some combination) fault? I understand that European anti-Americanism runs deep. I understand that European antisemitism runs really, really deep, but these people act like it was the CIA and the Mossad putting guns to the heads of the Jihadis and forcing them to blow stuff up.

The poor Jihadi just couldn't help himself...

I understand that there is a massive left-wing mea culpa that needs to take on all of the guilt of every white person everywhere and ignore anything good that the West has ever accomplished - like civil rights, which do not exist in the Muslim world. I get that. What I do not get and what I still can not get is how they can be so blind to the menace of the Jihadis. The Jihadis will tell you themselves very loudly what they are about. ONe might think that large segments of the West have so much self hatred that they actually want to see their own culture utterly destroyed.

But, I am not talking about the crazy moonbats either. I mean your average European. He or she, even with the massive media bias is not blind to the fact that it is Jihadis who keep rioting or blowing them up (or trying to). The only conclusion that I can draw is just simple cowardice. Bailout Blockbuster and offer coupons so people can upgrade their VHS decks. That'll fix it.

Sometimes I think the Left made up that meme ahead of time, knowing that their next president and his cronies would take down our economy on purpose. Now, no matter what Obama and the Democrats do, it can't possibly be as bad as taking down the WTC and killing more than 3000 people. No matter what I say about Obama, what he's done, what he's doing, the only answer I'll get is, "Well, at least he didn't kill 3000 Americans and initiate a Blood-for-Oil war for his buddies at Halliburton!"

On 9/11/2001, where was Barack Obama? Was he then active in making banks lend to people who couldn't pay? That is, was Obama involved in the Cloward-Piven takedown of our lending institutions even then?

All I know is, no matter what he does, it won't be as bad in the "minds" of the Left as what they think Bushitler did. 8 Years of Michael Moorism, disinformation, and Soros-funded lies has made America almost immune to any talk of Conspiracy, true or otherwise.

OK here is my fav IDF joke...

During the Six Day war, an Arab army was going to attack Israel.

A lone Israeli soldier got up from behind a big rock and shouted

"Hey you guys really don't want to do this!"

An Arab sergeant and a few men were sent to dispatch the Israeli. The Is raeli ducked behind the rock, and when the Arabs went around to get him there was a tremendous racket and fight. A few seconds later, the Israeli soldier gets up and says:

"That was fun guys, but really let's talk peace... You really don't want to do this."

The Arabs are incensed. A platoon is sent to get the Israeli - who promptly ducks behind the rock. More screaming and fighting...

The Israeli soldier gets out from behind the rock and says "Really guys, this is getting silly, just let's all go home and be nice."

A company is sent...

Another company is sent...

Finally, the furious Arab general is going to send a whole regiment when one severly wounded Arab soldier manages to stagger back to the Arab army.

"Don't..." he says... "It's a trap.... There's another Israeli soldier behind the rock..."

Yeah, somehow I don't think that the 25-DVD collection is going to end up preserved for posterity in the UK's equivalent of the Smithsonian Institution.

I'm guessing they just leave it the DVDs on the front table at 10 Downing, for whomever is interested. After a few days, all but three or four of the DVDs will have been taken, and the janitor will come in and throw the rest away.

Is there any proof that these aren't just movie he picked up at Blockbuster or Amazon? Link maybe? It is true that the movies were ranked the best 25 of all time by the AFI but they ranked them back in 2007 and the list has been up at their website ever since. re: #243 LudwigVanQuixote

They have the false idea that stopping America from sticking up for the West and throwing the Jews to the crocodiles will make the bad men stop.

That of course, is how you loose in the long run.

I hearby propose calling the type of moonbat leaning individual who would otherwise be sane, a Chamberlain.

Some thoughts.

First, Europe has never really been in a situation where they faced an outside threat. War, yes, getting overrun, yes, occupation, yes, but only England really had the experience of looking east and thinking "OK, we're gonna STOP this thing."

Second, I think that the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, which I believe has very little relevence in the current worldwide situation, has been blown entirely out of proportion, to the point where it's seen as a rational explanation for anything done by any Islamic terrorist group. This provides considerable HOPE, contrary to all logic, since people then believe that once the situation is resolved--ie, Israel is destroyed, although they don't take the thought that far, most of them, everything will be AOK. The problem can be fixed.

Lingering colonialist contempt is part of it too. I think that a lot of Europeans really cannot comprehend that these people are a real threat.

I don't know. These are just some random thoughts.

However, the receptionist, her only child just joined the service (to her utter horror ) so I have to bring things up like the article today where Obama was thinking of charging our injured Veterans of Wars for medical services. After giving all of that money to big business like Citi, AIG and what not, the big LIB is wanting to stick it to the little guy. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Mental cruelty. I approve.

I think you are spot on with all of your thoughts. However, I really do think that at the end of the day we are looking at just simple cowardice and indolence. I think the average European just wants it al to go away and turning back on centuries of tradition sees no problem in blaming the Jews. As to the Anti-American Bias, they know that they are second place to us. This wrankles them.

Nope, haven't worn them in years. I got on a lizard-skin pointy toe boots kick about ten years ago and watched ebay like a hawk until I had nearly every color made. Red is my favorite, but that takes a certain mood and occasion. My BEST pair of boots were made in the 70's ....sea turtle, Justin, more supple than you would think a skin boot could be, and in mint condition. On the rare occasion I wear cowboy boots now, that's my choice. Believe it or not, their color is (wait for it) ....tortoiseshell. :-)

Nowadays I kick around campus in some any-season uggs that are like a second skin. My number-one all-time-favorite pair of shoes is a 4" spike heel pointy-toe alligator skin pump.

I'ma shoe nut. It's genetic.

The mustards could use some sunshine. What size do you wear?

They were also quite upset about the Apple Computer Flagship Store on Fifth Avenue in New York, which they feel was designed for the sole purpose of humiliating Muslims by mocking that big cube thing in Mecca that they trample each other around once a year.

Isn't there a website somewhere that lists all of the hundreds of things that Muslims are officially offended by?

Well, they're officious-sounding...and they're an Institute, so they must be an exclusive bunch. Would the AFI actually produce a product, that is, burn 25 dvds, or buy them, at the President's request?

I'm guessing you're right, having not looked up the AFI online, that they made a list of films a couple years ago, and that's the only thing about this that they "put together". I could be wrong.

They are a film school. Yes they do make "lists," no they don't produce products.

I was just hoping that Avanti would do some of his own research before he shoots his mouth off, but, why would I expect that.

You mean, Queen Esther Coffee? From MEMRI:

"The Girl in the Starbucks Logo is Queen Esther... The Queen of the Jews"

Safwat Higazi: "Today, I would like to talk about the Starbucks coffee shop. Starbucks is to be found in Mecca, in Al-Madina, opposite the King Abdul Aziz Gate in Mecca, opposite the Al-Majid Gate in Al-Madina, as well as in Cairo. Starbucks is to be found everywhere, with this logo. This is the Starbucks logo.

"Has any of you ever wondered who this woman with a crown on her head is? Why do we boycott Starbucks? I will tell you, so you will know why you should boycott this company, and what this logo stands for. As I’ve already said, it is not enough to avoid entering this coffee shop. It is not enough to refrain from drinking this coffee. You must urge people never to go there, but none of you should even consider throwing a stone, breaking anything, or burning [the place] down.

[...]

"The girl in the Starbucks logo is Queen Esther. Do you know who Queen Esther was and what the crown on her head means? This is the crown of the Persian kingdom. This queen is the queen of the Jews. She is mentioned in the Torah, in the Book of Esther. The girl you see is Esther, the queen of the Jews in Persia." [...]

My mother and I both agree that this makes Starbucks far more appealing. I still don't understand the fishtail part, though. AFAIK, Esther was not a mermaid.

I voiced my opinion at someone's juvenile attitude. It detracts from the conversation. If I want to hear kiddie squabbles, i could go to Yahoo Chat.

Is that atrocious thing still around? I'm glad I quit that years ago. No moderation, too many psychos "getting their lulz". It amazed me how many would go into a Christian chat just to mess with minds. There was a group that would do this act, and it probably still goes on. They would go into Christian chats acting like poor souls who were on hard times, eliciting prayers and meaningful advice from those present. They would do this for hours, and then go off-character.

Amazing to me is how it only happened in the Christian rooms. People don't go to Bhuddist rooms and Muslim rooms and Atheist rooms just to pull heartstrings, get lulz, yuk it up, and generally try to drive the people there insane. Somehow, only the anti-Christian people did things like this, on such a scale. Made people stop wanting to help anyone, and stop trusting anyone at all. Just as the Devil wanted. They think they don't work for him, even as they do exactly as he wants.

OK a little off topic, but here is a science joke.

A PI (principle investigator, i.e. the prof who runs the group) a post doc and a grad student are walking along when they discover a lamp.

They rub the lamp. A genie appears and offers them each one wish.

The Grad student goes first. He says "I want $50,000,000 in a safe trust fund. I want to be on my shiny yacht. I want to be there now in the Carribean with the Sweedish Bikini Team (and they all want my body!) and live a life of ease!"

Poof! He is gone.

The post doc goes next. She says, "I want 50,000,000 in a Swiss bank account, to be in the Carribean on a nice private beach sipping an umbrella drink with the Olympic Mens' beach volleyball team (and they all want my body!) and live a life of ease!"

Poof! She is gone.

I am new here did read for some time prior what I do not understand is all these current fights where some posters defend our new President no matter how wrong he may be on the matter. Little Green Foot Balls used to not be that way it does trouble me as a new poster. I do not want to get off on the wrong side of things. I just do not like all the conflict which seems to get in the way of discussions of what to do to help our country get back on track. Some one help me on this. Thanks in advance.

I'm new too, but Charles is pretty cool about allowing a pretty wide open discussion about most anything, with a few exceptions. I've learned you don't disrespect his topics in his house and some topics that are wacky are not welcome. The old timers can give you a crash course on what to avoid.

Speaking of which..since it's almost a dead thread..How come nobody has programmed a snap in to Oracle R12 yet? Some programmer needs to translate the PL/SQL calls into the Oracle Objects..Crap..You could make a million bucks...The day that happens I'm emailing our CIO and asking him to dump IE6 and go with Firefox...Why doesn't Oracle encourage this or join forces and open source the calls? Weird..Come on!

Love inlay. Do you have any of the really old short top PeeWee boots?

The mustards may work for you if you are interested. If you blue your nic we can talk about it, I'd be more than happy to gift them to you.

What's the name of your favorite pair?

i do have some snub nose shorties w/ a squat under cut heal.
they are so adorable. i think they're from the late l940's.
the inlay colors are primary colors. yellow, red , blue and green.
like in the 8 color crayon box. pure color.
i don't wear those. i think the leather is stressed from age.
but they are in the original boxes w/ the happy go lucky western scenes
splashed across the top of the lid. a cowboy on a bucking bronco hat flying
thru the air. i have several prs. w/ ornate thread stitching design, too.
my favorite pair of boots are my "waylon's" . i have kicked some ass in those boots. you are so sweet to think of me w/ the mustard boots. can i e-mail you when i get back to town next week.

WOW! The original boxes! You're a connoisseur. And, I am jealous. Yes, me too, I love those deep under-cut heels. The mustards have a mild under-cut, not as deep as the shorties (I know exactly what you have, I can see them in my head.) Wow ...I have watched ebay for years for a pair of those; they are so expensive and they rarely turn up for sale.

Yes, email me when you get back. I'm blueing my nic for you. You be safe and have fun, wherever you're going!

re: #384 avanti

And you know this how ? To me, " the DVD collection was put together by the American Film Institute " might mean they put the collection together. Please provide the link that shows they " put together a list" as you so state.

Sheesh!

This whole question about whether the physical DVDs are playable in Brit equipment is totally beside the point. Gifts of this nature are for photo ops and protocol purposes. Rarely does the recipient ever actually make personal use of one. These gifts are symbolic. And in this case, a pretty tacky symbol, I'd say.

But in the unlikely event event that Brown, or a member of his household actually wanted to view the DVDs, or add them to the family collection, I'm quite sure that they could simply call up the U.S. Embassy in London, and request a replacement set made to work on Brit players. Same sort of thing would apply with an article of clothing. Exchange the one that's too small for one that fits.

The entire question about the compatibility of the DVDs is a non-issue for several reasons.

535 stevedecatur  Fri, Mar 13, 2009 2:58:20am

How odd (sarcasm) is it that press determined the suspects' Moroccan heritage is relevant to print but their religious faith dare not be mentioned?

Are we suppose to accept that the tie that binds terrorists is Moroccan ancestry? Is the media insinuating terrorism is in the DNA of Moroccans?

I somehow doubt atheist, Christian, Jewish and secular Moroccans of Muslim ancestry are up to such despicable schemes.

536 pupdawg  Fri, Mar 13, 2009 5:33:10am

PC bites the big one!

'Extremists of Moroccan-Dutch heritage' = RoP Terrorists. Heaven forbid if any arm, leg, waging tail or forked tongue of the world media offend Religion of Peace-ers. I fear PC is a huge contributor to Ozone depletion.

Yep, political correctness blows!

537 eaglewingz08  Fri, Mar 13, 2009 8:32:58am

Those darned Buddhists always plotting against the societies that bend over backwards to take them in. What ingrates. Oh, they weren't Buddhists, how bizarre. I mean what other religious group would espouse such violence, I am quite at a loss to know. I mean it's not like any single religious group has perpetrated nearly 13,000 acts of terror since 2000? I mean all extremist groups have done so during that time period. That's what my objective truth telling mainstream media informs me. And with Obama talking to our friends in Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and the Palestinians, utopia has at last arrived.

No need to replace the discs; odds are the Brown household already owns a DVD player that can handle the North American NTSC format in addition to the Euro PAL/SECAM formats. (European lizards can correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that such dual-format players are now quite commonplace in Europe, whereas in the U.S. they're still associated with the more upscale "specialist videophile" market.)

And if the Browns don't already own such a player, this is the perfect excuse to upgrade!

re: #539 Throbert McGee

Yes most Region two players (Europe) are either Region one compatible or can be hacked to play R1 discs. However the tv has to be able to accept the NTSC tv standard as well. It was still a shitty gift though.
