Obama Team Plots Opening of Iran Ties
The Obama administration is considering lifting a ban on regular diplomatic contacts with Iran and looking at ways to develop a direct line of communication to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said officials briefed on the deliberations.
American and European officials say Mr. Khamenei is the only Iranian leader who can make the ultimate decision to suspend or freeze Iran's nuclear program.
"The key issue is now to find a channel to Khamenei," said a senior Western diplomat briefed on the Obama administration's policy review in recent days. "If the supreme leader moves, he's going to do it in a very prudent and incremental way."
The discussions are part of a larger Iran-policy review that the Obama administration is aiming to complete this month, according to U.S. officials.

Eddie Van Halen. There are better blues guitarists that I like quite a bit (BB King, Clapton), jazz players (Larry Carlton), and there are technical guitarists that I enjoy (Fripp, Emmanuel). But I wanted to play guitar because of Eddie Van Halen (and his tone changes from album to album kicked ass).

The fatal flaw in this (or one of them) is the expectation that Khamenei will be prudent. He condones the murdering of teenagers because they are gay and beating and imprisoning women for letting a strand of hair show. Not exactly "prudent" material.

guitarists cannot be compared unless you draw up certain genres....the edge guy is good at what he does but he is certainly no Mick Taylor and there again Mick can't do the soaring arena breaks that David Gilmour does...and none compare to SRV for flat out smash mouth blues....this is the way it is

This has to qualify for laugh of the day. Hamas says that they're criticizing the recent rocket firing coming from Gaza and slamming into Israel on a near daily basis. It's an al Jazeera report, so take it for what it's worth.
Oh, and the kicker isn't that the rockets are being fire, but that they're being fired at the wrong time - they have to get the rocket attacks coordinated with the other terror groups, and Hamas wants a piece of the action.
The recent rockets were "being fired at the wrong time" and were "not being fired by the resistance faction", a statement from the interior ministry of the Hamas government said on Thursday. It added that its security forces would find out who was responsible, but stopped short of promising any punitive measures.

One last joke then I gotta split.
Alex is nont feeling well at all, he hasn't been feeling well for some time. Finally, his wife Anne, drags him to the doctor.
After an extensive physical, the doctor asks to speak with Alex's wife.
"Ma'am," says the doctor, "Your husband is very ill. He has the worst sort of hypertension and stress realated health issues. In fact, he is so bad off, that unless things change, he is likely to die in six months."
"Ohhh!" says Anne, "What can I do?"
"Well ma'am, he needs to get his stress reduced. Whatever you do, don't criticize him, no matter how anoying he gets, don't chide him. Cook his favorite foods and well, frankly even be more intimate with him more frequently."
On the ride home Alex asks his wife, "What did the doctor tell you?"
"Alex, he said you are going to die."

White progressives take credit for Obama victory.....
Don't Kid Yourself: White People Put Obama in the White House
I worked [President Barack] Obama's campaign for the Democratic National Committee here in Georgia for the entire two years that he ran. Black folks didn't even jump on that bandwagon here in Georgia until the very last minute. Nine months before the campaign ended, Michelle Obama was on an interview with Katie Couric, explaining why more Black folks were in Hillary Clinton's camp than Barack's. Black folks jumped on that bandwagon at the very last minute after white folks had spent better than two years propelling that man to the top. Let's not get the story twisted.
If anything, this ought to be a lesson to Black folks that all white folks aren't full of it. They are the ones who put in the time, money and energy that it took to even get Black folks to give that man a second look. I witnessed the whole story and not just the end.
When I started campaigning for Obama, Black folks were acting crazy … "Who is he? I don't know where he comes from. I'm not voting for him just because he's Black. I don't vote. I don't have time for politics. 'They' aren't gonna let a Black man win." I heard it all.
Black folks weren't whistling Obama's name until he started winning....

Celebrity-butt-licking Black folks weren't paying attention until Hollywood took notice, and even then, it took another hot minute and Hillary Clinton to open her mouth, discrediting the work of civil-rights workers, before they all went running over--about four or five months before the DNC, Black folks started ditching Hillary en masse.Do not get the story twisted. If it wasn't for white folks, President Obama wouldn't BE in D.C. If nothing else, Black folks should see that not ALL white folks are evil, in spite of their evil counterparts.

Money is not the problem. Pope Benedict has put his finger on it:
The real problem at this moment of our history is that God is disappearing from the human horizon, and, with the dimming of the light which comes from God, humanity is losing its bearings, with increasingly evident destructive effects.

re: #69 Occasional Reader
From today's Opinion Journal... Daniel Henniger is, IMO, not one prone to the more extreme anti-Obama paranoia. Which is what makes his column all the more troubling:
Sorry, but I quite agree with Obama on this, in fact, I hope he's 100x more serious about it than seems likely.
I am massively pissed about the issue of income distribution and executive compensation, and disagree massively with WSJ's excusing it all. Now, I sincerely doubt that tax policy is the cure - and in fact, as usual, I'm not sure what I'd recommend as the cure - but the patient is certainly ailing and needs help. The numbers come, I believe, from the middle class being crushed by outsourcing, technology, illegal immigration, and yes, a change in the social contract. Even those loathsome unions at least kept the distribution of income equitable, whatever else they did wrong. So, OK, have I just argued against myself, that the numbers come from a diminution of the middle class, not an aggrandizement of the upper class? Well, there's too much of that, too. Poster boys are all the zex at Citibank, Lehman, etc, but the vulture capital types in Silicon Valley are guilty, too - they often fail to share the success of a company with the employees who make it happen. Wasn't that way, twenty years ago, well maybe thirty.
So there.

Basically, if you work hard, do the best for your family you can...we are gonna rape your ass and make you pay for the layabouts who voted for socialism and the nanny state.
That about covers it.
The sad thing is that the "stimulus" will "work." The economy will recover and the stock market will rally.
The problem is that nothing is being done to correct the behavior that got us into this mess in the first place. After the poor and irresponsible are propped back up, they'll do what they always do: blow their money. Then what?
Sustainable economic growth doesn't come about through welfare programs; it happens because responsible investors spot the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs who create something from nothing - and provide jobs as well as concomitant income and payroll tax revenue streams for the government.

No thank you.
And remember that Obama is gunning for families making over $250K - for starters - which is affluent, but not exactly plutocratic.
It's class warfare, sponsored by your government.
The way to make income distribution more equal is to free up opportunity, not to install the government as the Great Social Engineer.

Acts 2:38
A woman went into her kitchen to find a burglar loaded down with a bunch of stuff he was stealing from her kitchen. Not having any kind of weapon to scare him off, she raised her hand and said "Acts 2:38," and proceeded to quote scripture.
The burglar froze in place and didn't move. The woman called 911, the police arrived and were amazed to find the burglar still frozen where he stood.
"What did you say to him that kept him from moving?" they asked the woman.
She told them that she had simply said Acts 2:38 and quoted scripture.
The police chuckled and escorted the burglar out to the patrol car. "Why did the woman's quoting scripture scare you so much?" they asked.
"Scripture?" said the burglar, "I thought she said she had an ax and two 38's!"

There is another angle to the Charles Freeman story that hasn't been covered. There is a problematic man called Dennis Blair who Barrack Obama named National Intelligence Director as one of his first acts. Freeman would have worked with Blair and Blair was probably Freeman's mentor for this job. Between the two of them American intel would have been sewn up.
Well, a few years ago...
Blair disobeyed orders from civilians in the Clinton Administration during the 1999 East Timorese crisis during his tenure as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Command. Amid growing international concern over violence against the independence movement in Indonesian-occupied East Timor, Blair was ordered to meet with General Wiranto, the commander of the Indonesian military, and to tell him to shut down the pro-Indonesia militia. According to Nairn, two days after the Liquiçá Church Massacre, Blair failed to deliver this message; instead he presented Wiranto with an offer of military assistance and a personal invitation to be Blair's guest in Hawaii.[5] Consequently, Wiranto’s "forces increased the Timor killings".
An East Timor advocacy group screamed like hell when Obama put this guy up for the intel chief job...
"It is unfathomable that Obama would consider appointing someone to such a prominent position who has shown so little concern for human rights in the past. Can we expect someone who has sought to undermine efforts to link human rights to military assistance to be a champion of reform? We don't think this is the kind of change people are expecting,"
Frankly, Blair sounds like Freeman's kind of guy, and vice verse. And it was Obama who was behind them both. Remember, Obama grew up partly in Indonesia. He went to grade school in Indonesia. And now he places a man in a sensitive post who is accused of aiding Indonesian atrocities against Christian East Timor. And that man tried to bring in another man who spits venom against Israel while taking money from Saudi Arabia.

I take the view that most highly paid executives are worth what they are paid, or they wouldn't be paid that much. They don't set their own salary, but like professional athletes usually take the best offer available. The high salaries are not only a recognition of unique talent, but also contain a premium to keep them away from the competition. That's another reason for large "golden parachutes".

I think he goes without saying. He will have quite a few detractors, but the guy was a revolutionary to rock.
His style tipped rock and roll on it's ear.
Look, I loves me some Eddie Van Halen. The man can play, and that SMILE. Of course, he was doing Valerie Bertinelli, which is basically what every guy in the US WANTED to do for a few years there. ;)

re: #225 KingKenrod
I take the view that most highly paid executives are worth what they are paid, or they wouldn't be paid that much. They don't set their own salary, but like professional athletes usually take the best offer available. The high salaries are not only a recognition of unique talent, but also contain a premium to keep them away from the competition. That's another reason for large "golden parachutes".
Well, you're wrong, no matter what good if unoriginal taste you have in avatars.
When you have a sports team of twelve or twenty-nine or forty, even the bench guys might be critical at any moment. Anyway, the sport produces huge revenues, and the main players are certainly entitled to a big piece of it. While at Exxon, with 100,000 employees, the CEO is maybe 1/100,000'th responsible for its profitability, and does not deserve 1000x a workman's salary, or 10,000x, or 100,000x, or whatever they paid that fool a couple of years ago.
There might be one or two of these guys, Jack Welch maybe, who are worth big money. For the most part, they are not, and the high salaries are a crime and extortion and theft from the employees and stockholders and the society at large, as they are destructive of the social cohesion of the companies, and of the society that depends on the companies to be productive.
And the likes of Bill Gates, who start a company that generates huge bucks, and gets rich on the stock? Well, I have nothing, or at least relatively less, against that. I will note that Microsoft made plenty of other millionaires, even billionaires. Most startups today do not work on that generous equation.

re: #191 Luigi
There is another angle to the Charles Freeman story that hasn't been covered. There is a problematic man called Dennis Blair who Barrack Obama named National Intelligence Director as one of his first acts. Freeman would have worked with Blair and Blair was probably Freeman's mentor for this job. Between the two of them American intel would have been sewn up.
Well, a few years ago...
And that man tried to bring in another man who spits venom against Israel while taking money from Saudi Arabia.

re: #156 itellu3times
So there.

With that criteria what blues guitarist since the 20's ever did anything that wasn't done by others?
you need a feel for it...a good example is Clapton...he is a fine guitarist who put on a new style with his Strat...but as far as I can tell never has had an original riff..everything he has ever played he stole from someone else...usually BB King...it's your own thing you weave into your music over time because you yourdself like it and have confidence in it...players grow up mimicking their heros...sometimes they go off on their own...like Carlos Santana or Sonny Landreth, but more often they just do whats already been done, only faster or with more gadget sounds, like Eddie Van Halen....imo

I am not making this up.
Woman Marries the Object of Her Desire ... the Eiffel Tower?
At one time or another everybody gets fed up and swears off relationships with other people forever. But do they go and marry an inanimate object?
They do if they're like former U.S. Army helicopter pilot Erika La Tour Eiffel. Did you catch that last name? Erika married the Eiffel Tower two years ago in a small ceremony with some friends in Paris.
La Tour Eiffel is one of a very small group of people who have intimate relationships with ... objects. These people, called, "objectum sexuals" are never attracted to human beings in the first place.
There are not very many known OS people in the world. The OS online group was founded by Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer--who coined the phrase--and has approximately 40 members, most of whom are women. Berliner-Mauer (which is German for "Berlin Wall"), tells "The Independent" that objectum sexuality is much more common in Eastern cultures where people "routinely believe that objects have souls."
A Special Relationship
OS people don't just love objects, they believe that objects are sentient beings who love them back and talk to them. That's why La Tour Eiffel has a hard time using her bow in archery competitions. They broke up, and now things just aren't the same. Not everyone who is OS is attracted to large public attractions. One British woman is primarily attracted to radios and hi-fis. And Amy Wolfe has a piece of banister that she just can't get enough of.

I don't know how to define "best" for a guitarist. But I think you know the great rockers because you recognize them even if you've never heard the song before.
Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Randy Rhoads, Ritchie Blackmore, And Angus Young are the first few.
As far as the jazz and classical players, I can't hardly tell the good from the great. They all kind of sound the same to me.

Obama: Economic crisis 'not as bad as we think'
Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we think" and his plans will speed recovery.
Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation's "confidence builder in chief," Obama said Americans shouldn't be whipsawed by bursts of either bad or good news and he was "highly optimistic" about the long term.

I don't like the Stones for an odd reason, I think. It's Mick's "Devil Strut", as I saw it phrased by a rock reviewer once. The man looks, walks, and sneers like he thinks he is the devil, and that it is a cool thing to do so. I acknowledge their talent, I just don't dig the oh-so-sneery attitude.
Same reason I dislike the persona put forth by Kid Rock.

this is a good example of what I've tried to say about musicians in general and especially guitarists...the Beach Boys came from nowhere with a totally unique and original thing...their early stuff was popular but crude...listen to them refine their thing over time until they just blew away anyone that mimicked them...these guys are legends really
I am the biggest Beatles fan, well anywhere..but where Brian Wilson was in 66-67 was ahead of where The Beatles were. Unfortunately he had the record label, himself, and most of the rest of the band fighting against him and he just gave up. I listen to the Smile session tracks every chance I get. Amazing stuff.

Same here, trader, same here. It is infinitely frustrating.
The thing is, its a little complex when you try to debate on Israels behalf - where do you even start?
What makes it difficult is that its not really an issue of who is right or wrong, like most worldly issues are - but to what extent people hate Jews. I despise every time I have to try and defend Israel - its almost as if we're acknowledging that this is a regular conflict. Its not! Any person with a little logic can figure who the bad guys are in the conflict very easily. If I try and debate the topic, I simply wouldn't know how to do it. Its like trying to persuade someone that eating is necessary to live and they keep arguing against that conviction.

re: #494 Slumbering Behemoth
And same here. I wish I could recall all the data that has convinced me, on any particular issue, live and on the spot. I cannot, and I freeze up, so I just tell people that. I tell them, look, I'm a reader, I've read enough to convince me of the veracity of (position x). I am not a teacher. I cannot convince you, not in a year. I wasn't convinced in a year, by 2,000 well-written articles, essays, papers, studies, and whole blog conversations. I'm not a teacher. I can give you links, I can recommend authors. I cannot convince you in a debate at the coffeshop while I'm purchasing my coffee, in a standing-in-line soundbite, that my position is true. You gotta search for the truth.
Then again, you gotta be open to the truth, and I do believe Discernment is a gift from God almighty. Some search for the truth and find DU, PrisonPlanet, Kos, and other purveyors of "Troof". Some search for the truth and find Burning Man and crystal-worship. Some search for the truth and find Coast to Coast AM. Not to be, or sound, conceited, but the truth is something not all can discern. Some people have no "BS detector", which is another word for God's gift of discernment.
I really wish I wasn't so afraid. Maybe I need to take martial arts. I can speak very well, I just lock up when facing opposition, like I'm gonna get my ass kicked or something. Confidence is not my strong suit.

Kid Rock is good peeps. Many times he and band have traveled to the middle east to entertain the troops, and on his (their) own dime as well.
Not only that, but on (Leno, I think) he called out all the wussy entertainers to get off their lazy, wussy butts and do the same.

King at a client's house one day - and after I got through stuttering and all I asked if I could just see Lucille (that's also his guitar's name) and he chuckled and asked me if I played. I lied - or told the truth perhaps and said NO but I'd always admired his guitar stylings. He said that was great.
Then when he and Junior and Buddy Guy got inducted to the Hall of Fame, all three of them introduced by Clapton, B.B. said if it wasn't for Clapton the blues might have died off - and then said that Clapton has given a lot of money to old blues players (Clapton was clearly not amused by this revelation) and Guy said the only guy on stage who belonged there because of his ability to feel and play the blues besides him, Junior and BB was Eric Clapton and the four of 'em played just a helluva great "Crossroads".
Exactly! I've read so many things over such a long time - how can I condense so much information in a quick conversation?

I burned a copy of this, and ripped a cd from it: Eric Clapton: Nothing but the Blues
From the description:
Filmed by director Martin Scorcese, this documentary was broadcast once on PBS stations, but never officially released for reasons which remain unclear. A planned release on home video was slated for early summer 1995, and Warner/Reprise produced a limited number of advance copies to be used for promotion. The promotional copies have both a test pattern and the Warner/Reprise logo before the program material (see below), unlike the version shown on PBS. These promo copies also feature a blistering electric performance of "Driftin" not shown on the PBS release. DVD-R sourced directly from master promo copy. This, remastered version replaces the mono soundtrack of the promotional VHS with the pristine stereo audio mastered for radio broadcast

Nah, you should buy the one that came out last year, or the year before, called "Coming Home." That doesn't sound like anything Clapton's ever done. In fact it was so bad, I put it out on the sidewalk for anyone to take.
Like Rush after 1988 or so, Clapton appears to have lost the ability to create music that moves. I like Rush a lot, but I cringe when I hear any of their later stuff. It's utterly terrible, IMO. Their latest is the worst yet. Some bands don't know when they've run out of mojo. Rush should have formed three new bands in 1989 or 90, with new blood and new inspiration, instead they bored us for 8 albums. Geddy used to play the bass, I hear./

hell of a story...you are a lucky man...I never met Clapton but I did meet King once...very pleasant guy...Clapton has given away millions to different causes namely his addiction thing where Crossroads evolved from...several years ago he auctioned off most of his guitar collection and the money was out of this world...these are good men and living legends really...the blues came back alive with Clapton yes but there were other young players carrying the torch as well...Page, Peter Green and of course Mick Taylor...but at that time Clapton was the most famous and deservedly so...but remember Taylor fronted John Mayalls Blues Breakers after Clapton at 17yrs old bro!...Mick Taylor went on to blow Clapton away as a blues player too...

From Wiki
The Gridiron Club is best known for its annual dinner which traditionally features the United States Marine Band, along with satirical musical skits by the members and remarks by the President of the United States and representatives of each political party. The skits and speeches by various politicians are expected to be self-deprecating or otherwise sharply comedic. It is one of the only remaining large-scale white-tie affairs in Washington.

Yeah, if I buy an album and I don't like it, that CD is on the sidewalk, propped up on a windowsill, with tape on it that says FREE. I never dumpsterize it. Someone might like it. I did that with the Roots Come Alive album. Great jazz/rap/hiphop/experimental band, lousy album. re: #630 realwest
"everything Clapton plays sounds the same"?!? From what time period? Nothing he did while he was with CREAM sounds remotely like either version of Layla and none of those sound like his soulful solo on "Knock Knock, Knocking on Heaven's Door" or "My Back Pages". Or any of the "guest appearances" he made with Mark Knopfler (think Dire Straights) Really - everything Clapton plays is great, but it sure doesn't all sound the same at all.
yes it does...this has been a knock against Clapton for decades...yes he aged and got into more acoustic stuff and after decades recorded 'Back to the Cradle'....his fans were leaving him in droves with his pop thing he did with a long string of radio records...he finally snapped out of it...he did 'Riding With the King ' with BB which made him alot of money and he didnt even write it, John Hiatt did....now Clapton is into a retro legends gig making a ton of money again....my respect for his playing only goes so far and he has not written anything that interests me since 'Layla'...almost 40 yrs ago....and I am a lifelong Clapton fan myself btw

re: #611 Kosh's Shadow
Hey there Kosh's Shadow - actually the Yardbirds owe a helluva lot to Robert Johnson. Clapton, Paige and Beck all copied that style for a while.
But of the three of 'em, only Clapton took a year off, literally stayed in his home and played guitar for like 12 hours a day until he could get it "close to right".
And Jeff Beck is all about Fusion now (well for a several years now). I do have Beck, Clapton and Paige all on stage at the same time on a video tape, doing first Layla then Stairway To Heaven. Didn't sound as good as I thought it would though.

The name is familiar, but I'm not sure what it is. As for the Messiah, he's probably ditching it because traditionally Presidents did such things and he's want to make sure he doesn't do anything like it has been done before.
Honestly, no clue unless he really is trying to stick a thumb in the eye of the electorate.
The two of them remind me of nothing so much as a couple with no class, who've suddenly struck it rich. They seem to think that cost equates to tasteful. They wouldn't know 'noblesse oblige' if it bit them on their asses.

I've been having problems with that technique in firefox. I'll Ctrl-F, the field pops up down below in its own toolbar, (unlike IE, which pops up a separate window), but when I begin typing "TAQ" it starts searching an entire thread for the letter T, then for TA, sometimes locking up the program just looking for the letter T. I wish it would wait until I hit the button before starting to search the page.
So what I do, open a new tab, THEN bring up the search bar, then type TAQ (as it beeps at me three times, not found(t), not found(ta), not found(taq)) then go back to the LGF tab, and tell it to search the page.
I wish the designers of these features would use them more, and work out idiocies like that. I don't need to friggin find ONE LETTER in a document, Mozilla.

No problem! I open a new tab (to be clear), so it's a blank page it's doing that autosearch on. There may be a way to turn off that autosearch feature, I have not looked.
I also wish I could completely disable the most braindead idea Microsoft ever made, the Windows key. Also known as the "Interrupt your Game and F*** Everything up and Go Back to Windows Button."...conveniently located right next to all the keys commonly used in graphical 3d games, so as to f*** you up as often as possible. That damn key needs to be outlawed. Whoever had the idea needs imprisonment. If it must remain, it should be on the underside of the keyboard, under a little panel that you have to pry open with a dime.
Windows asks "Are you sure" for just about every damn thing you do, but don't hit that windows key during a game. It's pretty sure you want to screw everything up immediately.

re: #662 albusteveWith all due respect, check out Wikipedia about Clapton. His current guitar of choice is a Martin and before '69 it was a Gibson.
In late 1969, Clapton made the switch to the Fender Stratocaster. "I had a lot of influences when I took up the Strat. First there was Buddy Holly, and Buddy Guy. Hank Marvin was the first well known person over here in England who was using one, but that wasn't really my kind of music. Steve Winwood had so much credibility, and when he started playing one, I thought, oh, if he can do it, I can do it."[40] First was "Brownie" used during the recording of Eric Clapton which in 1974 became the backup to the most famous of all Clapton's guitars, "Blackie." In November 1970 Eric bought six Fender Stratocasters from the Sho-bud guitar shop in Nashville, Tennessee while on tour with the Dominos. He gave one each to George Harrison, Steve Winwood and Pete Townshend. He used the best components of the remaining three to create "Blackie", which was Clapton's favourite stage guitar until its retirement in 1985. It was first played live January 13, 1973 at the Rainbow Concert.[41] Clapton called the 1956/57 Strat a "mongrel".[42] On 24 June, 2004, Clapton sold "Blackie" at Christie's Auction House, New York for $959,500 to raise funds for his Crossroads Centre for drug and alcohol addictions. "Brownie" is now on display at the Experience Music Project.[43] The Fender Custom Shop has since produced a limited run of 275 'Blackie' replicas, correct in every detail right down to the 'Duck Brothers' flight case, and artificially aged using Fender's 'Relic' process to simulate years of hard wear. One was presented to Eric upon the model's release.[44]
Another moment involving Clapton's guitars resulted in Hard Rock Café's unique and gigantic collection of memorabilia. In 1971, Clapton, a regular at the original Hard Rock Café in Hyde Park, London, gave a signed guitar to the café to designate his favourite bar stool. Pete Townshend, in turn, donated one of his own guitars, with a note attached: "Mine's as good as his! Love, Pete." From there, the collection of memorabilia grew, resulting in Hard Rock Café's atmosphere.[45] In 1988 Fender honoured Clapton
with the introduction of his signature Eric Clapton Stratocaster.[46] These were the first two artist models in the Stratocaster range and since then the artist series has grown to include models inspired both by Clapton's contemporaries such as Rory Gallagher, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, and by those who have influenced him such as Buddy Guy. Clapton uses Ernie Ball Slinky and Super Slinky strings. [47] Clapton has also been honoured with signature-model 000-28EC and 000-42EC acoustic guitars made by the famous American firm of C.F. Martin & Co..[46] His 1939 000-42 Martin that he played on the Unplugged album sold for $791,500 at auction.[38] Clapton plays a custom 000-ECHF Martin these days.In 1999, Clapton auctioned off some of his guitar collection to raise over $5 million for continuing support of the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, which he founded in 1997.[48] The Crossroads Centre is a treatment base for addictive disorders such as drugs and alcohol. In 2004, Clapton organised and participated in the Crossroads Guitar Festival to benefit the Centre. A second guitar auction, including the "Cream" of Clapton's collection - as well as guitars donated by famous friends - was also held on 24 June 2004. His Lowden acoustic guitar sold for $41,825. The total revenue garnered by this auction at Christie's was US $7,438,624.[38]
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]
And y'all outta remember that on March 30 Eric turns 64 - he's older than me by 12 days, and a person and their musical tastes change with time.
But y'all can pick whomever you like as "the best" guitar player, but Eric Clapton is my favorite.

This is something to savor.
Obama's numbers are below Bush's at the same point in his first term.
Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.
Schadenfreude. It's what keeps our morale up.....

Now working after page reload.
YOU FIXED IT! YOU FIXED IT!
;p
Apropos of nothing at all--
I know a young woman who is a vet--pets, not army. She got an hysterical call once, from a client, sobbing into the phone that her dog's ear was 'broken again'.
A. told her to bring the dog in, and met them at the clinic. The dog, carefully wrapped in a towel, was a miniature daschund, (like A.s own pet) and one of its ears was folded back.
I don't know if you've spent much time with daschunds, but their long ears do flip inside out sometimes, and the thin cartilage folds at a sharp angle. A. took the dog's ear and folded it right side out.
"Oh my God, thank you!" gasped the daschund owner. "You fixed it! And sometimes HE fixes it, but he didn't this time..."
A. spent a few minutes demonstrating that you can flip the ears inside out and outside in, and no, it doesn't hurt them at all...

As do I, to a certain extent. The person I speak of is a rather loud mouthed, vulgar, and aggravating individual. Has a really good and generous heart, though, which is difficult to see with their abrasive exterior.
Aside from the some of fine people here at LGF, I haven't really known many Jewish people. There was that one kid in grade school, and the only thing I can recall about him is that he couldn't make a proper middle finger.
Who knows, maybe I know all kinds of Jewish people, and just don't know it.
I know all kinds of Jewish People. Tall, short, fat, skinny, blue-eyed, brown-eyed, curly haired, straight haired. What I've noticed most of all, they are people. Most I like, some I don't.

Ah, you know how Chicago is. 62 degrees and a charity drive one day, 12 degrees and find a trash bag with a dismembered body in it the next day.
on the plus side:
Chicago will get at least $1 billion in federal stimulus money, a sum Mayor Richard Daley considers "better than nothing" but insists will not solve the city's budget woes.
The mayor announced Thursday he intends to spend the money largely on transportation, education and public housing. City Hall estimates the programs will create or save 16,000 jobs, though most are only temporary.
The federal windfall would preserve 1,000 CTA posts and 750 teaching positions in city schools, the mayor said. It also will be used to generate summertime work for 7,300 teens and 650 community service jobs for ex-offenders and other difficult-to-place workers.

March 13, 2009John Barrera wanted to work for the city, so he joined the Hispanic Democratic Organization, a feared political street army that wielded power over jobs inside Mayor Richard Daley's administration.
In his first political campaign for the group, he helped Ald. John Pope (10th) get elected ward committeeman in 2000.
Later that summer, Al Sanchez, an HDO leader and Daley's commissioner in the Streets and Sanitation Department, told Barrera the good news: He was getting a city job as a toll collector on the Chicago Skyw

Chicago corruption is somehow more picturesque and exciting than the Detroit variety...people in Chicago give a s***, and fight back. Not the home of two competing conservative talk stations for nothin'!)
I'm guessing the "temporary" jobs that will be created are construction and roadwork jobs, only for people who are in unions, and probably not necessary jobs, either. Others will include hiring people to park their truck all day and get paid for it. Judging by recent history. :)

The rambling 43-page suicide note left by a man who killed his wife and teenage stepson last month in their Wilmette home is peppered with self-pity over his broken ankle, treatment for bipolar disorder and what he described as a crumbling marriage."I could not fight off the suicide dreams," wrote Richard Wiley, 54, who police say murdered his wife Kathryn Wiley-Motes, 50, and her son Christopher Motes, 17, on the afternoon of Feb. 28, and killed himself the following evening.

.338 is catching on with snipers, almost the range of the .50 but the whole system is lighter and cheaper. Never fired one. Longest range in my neck of the woods is 300 yds, the .338 you'd want 1000 just to play around.

Colorado has the lowest state taxes of your choices. It's also the highest in the freedom index. Public transit in Denver is expanding and has mile and mile of light rail now. You wouldn't be limited to living in the city itself and find a nice condo in the outskirts next to a light rail station. The rent is comparable to Portland.

I know the McLaren is a sort of fusion of car, art, and space shuttle -- and I appreciate the coolness of that -- but to me there's still something unmatched about a Ferrari. They all seem to carry the full history of the make.

While on the topic of metropolitan areas and the moonbats that populate them, how moonbatty would you say Calgary or Edmonton is Peon?
Well, here in Alberta, we speak of Edmonton as Redmonton. It's the seat of the provincial government, and it has the oil refineries, which are union jobs, hence its leftish bent. But probably nowhere ear as moonbatty as Seattle or San Francisco.
Calgary is pretty rational and right-wing. The oil and gas companies are headquartered there, and a lot of the tech, too, although a lot of the oilfield service and manufacturing jobs are in and near Edmonton, for reason of proximity to the oilfields.
Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, who is definitely not a moonbat, represents the riding of Calgary Southwest.
I used to live in Calgary, but moved to a rural area 10 years ago. I know plenty of folks in Edmonton, and would have considered moving there if circumstances had required it. I'd say both cities have something to offer if you are a city-loving type of person.

The entire metro Seattle area; Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, Bellevue has good transportation system (lord knows we paid enough for it). You can also live across the Sound in Bremerton / Bainbridge, catch a bus to a ferry right to downtown Seattle.
If you are considering Washington, you might also want to look at the city of Bellingham. Much smaller than Seattle, but still has plenty to offer in the way of urban amenities. Waterfront, too, and if you are, or want to become a skier, Mt. Baker is not far away.
I'm not a transit user, but it seems to me that in most cities, how well you are served by transit depends entirely upon how your home and your workplace are served by the existing transit system. So if one is moving to a new city, one should scout for a home in an area that has good transit service to one's expected workplace.
