AIG Financial Products Head Digs Che Guevara at Cuba-Themed Event

Politics • Views: 6,406

Here we see the current head of AIG Financial Products and former vice chairman of Morgan Stanley, Gerry Pasciucco, at an event called “Fiesta Cuba,” wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt.

The photo comes from this page at Fairfield County Look, where we learn more about the fun-filled evening:

Family Centers took a trip back in time where the sound of salsa music filled the air, La Tropicana was the place to be and relaxation was a way of life. The sights, sounds and tastes of 1940s-era Havana filled the air on the evening of Friday, June 6 for Family Centers’ 2008 benefit - Fiesta Cuba. The event was held at the Belle Haven home Laurie and Peter Grauer.

Known to attract the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner and Gary Cooper, Cuba was dubbed “America’s Playground” during the years following World War II. Laurie Grauer, along with her fellow co-chairs Patti Fast, Julie Graham and Nonie Sullivan, combined a touch of that glitz and glamour with the laid-back feel the Caribbean is known for to create a true paradise under the stars.

Before sitting down to an authentic Cuban feast, guests were treated to mojitos, other tropical drinks and hand-rolled cigars. Meanwhile, roulette, poker and other games of chance were played in the world-famous Riviera Casino. But the party really heated up once the sun went down, as a 13-piece orchestra played a mix of Latin and party tunes sure to keep the dance floor filled all night. The funds raised will benefit Family Centers’ 30 education and human service programs.

As for me, I love Cuba. The food, the music. I once loved it so much that I would have fought and died to rid it of Communists.

I once was hanging out with some Cuban musicians (Los Von Von) backstage, asked them how it was going, they said, "Better, Castro lets us keep some of our money"

Now, I ask you, is that starting to sound familiar?

If not, check back in about a year, maybe less.

Jefferson said this in 1802:

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issues of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Bastards. Go to
Murder by Che to see how Che murdered hundreds by his own hand and thousands by his orders.

Thousands of Cubans have been oppressed and killed by followers of Che. It is an insult to the Cuban people to celebrate this bastard and what he has done to Cuba and the 50 years of repression he caused.

Bastards.

To play a memorial Day gig, I thought I would get a Marine Corps shirt for the event. I went to the local Army-Navy store and they had Che shirts all over the place. I asked: "What the hell is that doing in an Army-Navy store?!"

They said: "It's our best seller". I walked out. Went to the closet and got the old Marines shirt from last year.

Last year, I went in the Army-Navy store and Che was gone.

And Michelle Malkin uses the AIG bonus story to.....write an idiotic rant bashing John McCain.

Because he didn't stop Bush from giving AIG billions of dollars in October.

I wish I was kidding, because she is the type of moron who loses elections for the GOP by driving away moderate voters and driving conservative voters away from moderate candidates.

She helped elect Obama, but all she can do is rant at John McCain. I expect to see more of that from the "true conservatives" the worse Obama gets, because it's the only way for them to attempt to justify their behavior last fall.

Read this to see the real Che-. [Link: www.therealcuba.com...]

The exact number of Che’s Cuban victims has not been verified, but include people he personally executed and those put to death under his orders. Che’s biographers consistently report that he sent thousands to the firing squad. Over 4,000 deaths are documented to have taken place in Cuba, mostly firing squad execution, in the first three years after Fidel Castro’s takeover (1959-1962). Che Guevara was one of the regime’s chief executioners during this period and is said to have acknowledged ordering "several thousand" executions. All took place without affording the victims fair trials and due process of law. The following list is not exhaustive and only includes cases for which historic reference is known. Names are cited as reported; dates and additional details for most are available. Combat deaths caused by Che in Cuba and killings in countries where he led guerrilla operations have not been tallied.
14 executed by Che in the Sierra Maestra during the anti-Batista guerrilla struggle (1957-1958):

They have a party celebrating pre-communist Cuba -- and the guy wears a Che shirt to it? Che, the guy who destroyed any remnant of pre-communist Cuba? What -- is this guy an idiot? Apparently so. The hypocrisy and head-exploding irony of his shirt is totally lost on this fool. It's the equivalent of wearing a Hitler shirt to a Holocaust Remembrance Day event.

He would wear a Stalin shirt to celebrate Czarist Russia.

Here we see the current head of AIG Financial Products and former vice chairman of Morgan Stanley, Gerry Pasciucco, at an event called “Fiesta Cuba,” wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt.

For a truly authentic party, this asshat should have been kidnapped and held for ransom......
But based on their blinding historical illiteracy they would have used gorrillas to do the kidnapping and then PETA would have gotten involved and the whole thing would just degenerate into a mess........

95 HelloDare  Tue, Mar 17, 2009 11:51:26am

Guevara, who was practically the architect of the Soviet-Cuban relationship,[77] played a key role in bringing to Cuba the Soviet nuclear-armed ballistic missiles that precipitated the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. During an interview with the British Communist newspaper The Daily Worker a few weeks after the crisis, Guevara still fuming, stated that if the missiles had been under Cuban control, they would have fired them off.[78] Sam Russell, the British correspondent who spoke to Guevara at the time came away with "mixed feelings", calling him "a warm character" and "clearly a man of great intelligence", but "crackers from the way he went on about the missiles."[78]

The Earmarked Bankruptcy

Excerpt:

This is the real problem, even beyond the taxpayer cost, of this new form of Congressional or Administration-led pseudo-bankruptcy: Winners and losers are determined by political power and perceptions of short-term political gain, rather than against a goal of maintaining value and following well understood and predictable rule. This process throws all the old predictable rules and traditions out the window. Investors and folks with contracts used to know just how senior their obligations were in a corporate failure. Now, they have no idea, as their position in the bankruptcy may in the future depend more on how much they donated in the last presidential election, or how good their PR agent is.

Or, as Francisco d'Anconia put it:

Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion--when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing--when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors--when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you--when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice--you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that is does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot.

Put him on a rickety, homemade, flotation device with Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Harold Raines, et al and cast them adrift toward Havana. The Cuban people deserve better though.

I was watching Nightline last night, and they had a reporter and cameraman standing out AIG headquarters' revolving doors, to see if they could get anybody from AIG to talk on camera. One guy did step out and talk to them: Leslie Mouat, a Brit, who is their regional president for Southeast Asia, who'd just flown in from the Singapore office, where he's based (he said that 3,500 employees report to him).

He said that he was as mad about the AIG collapse as the public, and he hoped that the public wouldn't blame all the employees (120,000) of AIG for the actions of 450 people in the Financial Products, who he held responsible for driving the company off the cliff. He seemed geniunely pissed off about what the people in the NY offices have done.

The video is on the Nightline homepage. Look under Monday (in the center column of the page), for the video title, "American Outrage". Mouat appears halfway through the video, and again toward the end.

Indeed. What we proles are learning is, if I may repeat myself, the utter contempt at which our elites hold us.

The middle-businessmen like Joe the Plumber / Tito the Builder are dirty greedy kulaks to them. They float above us all, from university to the head of some financial services firm to lobbying to elected office and around about, throwing a few hundred million here and a few billion there. They are above being greedy; they can lose millions and, more importantly, their firms can lose trillions without crimping their lifestyles one bit. So what if the people below them get shafted? It's fewer nouveau riche with their gaudy ski outfits in the line ahead of them at the ski slope.

I don't mind having an upper class above me; hell, I'm halfway a monarchist myself. I do mind an upper class who looks at me as if I'm a bug to be squashed.

Ahhhh...the benefits of socialized health care.

'Shocking' treatment at Stafford Hospital may have killed 400, watchdog says

Patients admitted for emergency treatment at an NHS Trust were subjected to “shocking and appalling” care that included untrained receptionists carrying out medical checks and heart monitors being switched off, a report concluded today.

The Healthcare Commission, the NHS standards watchdog, said that evidence suggested that as many as 400 deaths at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust could have been prevented and may have been the result of poor care.

The commission’s investigation, based on more than 300 interviews and an examination of more than 1,000 documents, uncovered inadequately trained staff who were too few in number, junior doctors left in charge at night, and patients left without food, drink or medication as their operations were repeatedly cancelled.

Some patients were in pain or needed the toilet, sat in soiled bedding for several hours at a time and were not given their regular medication, the commission heard.

Receptionists with no medical training were expected to assess patients coming into A&E.

Describing the episodes as a “gross and terrible breach of trust of the patients the NHS seeks to serve”, Sir Bruce Keogh, medical director of the NHS, said the report showed there had been a “complete failure of leadership” at the trust.

As I understand it, they didn't package subprimes. What they did was even iffier: they created "insurance" products to cover the Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) that included subprime - or what we now call "toxic" mortgages. When the mortgage bubble burst, their "insurance" products were screwed.

(Smarter lizards than I can probably explain it better - but I believe the AIG products were also a form of credit default swap (CDS).)

There are few things in the world more unattractive, and more deserving of ridicule than a washed up ex-hippie wannabe trying to look hip and cool.......and totally missing the mark by embracing a symbol that would have happily killed him, given half a chance.

People like this evoke a modification to the old saying of '.....opening your mouth and removing all doubt that you're an idiot'. In this clowns case it's '...look at my shirt and see what an idiot I am'.

I just heard on the radio that Sarah Jane Olsen has been freed

A bit of a controversy in the Twin Cities. This time, the entire Democrat establishment isn't supporting the terrorist, just some of them.

True story: When the hag was arrested in 2000 (or so), the Dems treated it as a joke. Held fund raisers for here at her left wing church. She put out a cook book with a catchy title (related to her arrest), St Paul city council members supported her. And her lawyer kept getting the trial postponed. Again and again.

Then 9/11 happened. Suddenly terrorism wasn't just a joke. Hence her jail time.

Yeah, I guess that's what he said :-). They are an "insurance" group after all.

I was just shocked because the statement was so out of character for him.

Rumspringa is an officially approved phase for Amish teenagers in which they are temporarily allowed to violate the rules of the community -- be promiscuous, take drugs, etc. After they've "gotten it out of their system," they get baptized, assume adult Amish garb, and become pillars of the community.

Sorry, in my opinion McCain isn't blameless.

When I was in Cuba back in the late '90s I was struck by how you see Che everywhere. His carricature is painted on buildings, baseball stadiums, bus stops, you name it. I even saw several Che tattoos. He was everywhere. And yet you very rarely saw anything Castro. I came to the conclusion that Cubans still revere Guevara (and Castro knows it). It's almost as if there's a disconnect with Guevara's role in getting them in the straits they're in and his image is the only thing that makes the revolution and its bleak aftermath palatable.

If you look through the gallery, there are people dressed up as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. While I'm not about to defend AIG, it's possible he wore Che as a Halloweenish costume. If true, that might downgrade this gaffe into the "horrible taste" category. Just sayin'.

Don't agree.
There simply are some things one doesn't do.
Wearing a 'Che'-shirt, wearing a keffiyah (unless its the one from Israel!) are two of those.
There are others.

Its not a fashion gaffe - its an indicator of one's political stupidity.

re: #67 funky chicken

And Michelle Malkin uses the AIG bonus story to.....write an idiotic rant bashing John McCain.

Because he didn't stop Bush from giving AIG billions of dollars in October.

I wish I was kidding, because she is the type of moron who loses elections for the GOP by driving away moderate voters and driving conservative voters away from moderate candidates.

She helped elect Obama, but all she can do is rant at John McCain. I expect to see more of that from the "true conservatives" the worse Obama gets, because it's the only way for them to attempt to justify their behavior last fall.

The AIG bailouts weren't part of TARP. They were done separately by Hank Paulson and GW Bush. Period. No US Senator voted on them.

For Malkin to blame the AIG bailouts on John McCain is idiotic, and she should know better. But she has to justify her hatred of McCain and refusal to support his candidacy somehow.

It's sad to see an intelligent person lie to herself like that, and even sadder to see people cheering her on and following her advice.

Testimony Before the House Committee on Un-American Activities
In 1953, Ball was subpoenaed by the House Committee on Un-American Activities because she had registered to vote in the Communist party primary election in 1936 at her socialist grandfather's insistence (per FBI FOIA-released documents in a declassified FBI file).[40] Immediately before the filming of episode 68 ("The Girls Go Into Business") of I Love Lucy, Desi Arnaz, instead of his usual audience warm-up, told the audience about Lucy and her grandfather. Arnaz quipped: "The only thing red about Lucy is her hair, and even that's not legitimate." Then, he presented his wife and she received a standing ovation from the audience.[16]

I guess pretty innocuous.

re: #254 LGoPs

We should really be calling it the Community Reinvestment Act Program....known by its acronym CRAP.

You know how I keep saying it's all planned?

Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis

ACORN, the new tip of the Cloward-Piven spear

In 1970, one of George Wiley's protégés, Wade Rathke -- like Bill Ayers, a member of the radical Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) -- was sent to found the Arkansas Community Organizations for Reform Now. While NWRO had made a good start, it alone couldn't accomplish the Cloward-Piven goals. Rathke's group broadened the offensive to include a wide array of low income "rights." Shortly thereafter they changed "Arkansas" to "Association of" and ACORN went nationwide.

[snip]

Mortgage Crisis

And now we have the mortgage crisis, which has sent a shock wave through Wall Street and panicked world financial markets like no other since the stock market crash of 1929. But this is a problem created in Washington long ago. It originated with the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), signed into law in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter. The CRA was Carter's answer to a grassroots activist movement started in Chicago, and forced banks to make loans to low income, high risk customers. PhD economist and former Texas Senator Phil Gramm has called it: "a vast extortion scheme against the nation's banks."

ACORN aggressively sought to expand loans to low income groups using the CRA as a whip. Economist Stan Leibowitz wrote in the New York Post:

This bit is critical:

"That's for sure, especially after March of 2005. The housing trouble began -- as most of AIG's troubles did -- when the company's board buckled under pressure from then New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer when it fired longtime CEO Hank Greenberg. Almost immediately, Fitch took away the company's triple-A credit rating, which allowed it to borrow at cheaper rates. AIG subsequently announced an earnings restatement. The restatement addressed alleged accounting sins that Mr. Spitzer trumpeted initially but later dropped from his civil complaint."

Mr. Cuomo did not name the bonus recipients, but the numbers are eye-popping, given A.I.G.’s fragile state. The highest bonus was $6.4 million, and six other employees received more than $4 million, according to Mr. Cuomo. Fifteen other people received bonuses of more than $2 million, and 51 people received bonuses between $1 million and $2 million, Mr. Cuomo said. Eleven of those who received “retention” bonuses of $1 million or more are no longer working at A.I.G., including one who received $4.6 million, he said.

My Dad's a republican CPA, and he told me that the AIG guys should all be in jail. Apparently AIG was the company that pioneered the insane packaging and reselling of subprime mortgages or something.

How are their shenanigans any different than Enron? Like Enron execs, they should be tarred, feathered, jailed, and their families thrown out onto the streets, (or thrown onto their resort homes in Aspen or Palm Beach).

And then our sights should be set on Dodd, Frank, Raines, Gorlik, etc., etc.

A few weeks ago, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader called Bahrain Iran's 14th province. Not only did Bahrain react indignantly, but--more important--so did Saudi Arabia. For, even as a potential conflict between Iran and Israel grabs headlines, tensions have been building between Tehran and Riyadh.

Back in later, and about to leave again:

Disconnected from Ball, just as a general FYI --back in the Depression, and during the Spanish Civil War, there were a lot of people who lined up with the Communist Party because of events of the day, but who parted company with the Communists after those events were over.

The Communists milked the Depression and Nazi support for Franco in order to make inroads into the liberal community and gain support. Any given person's support for "the Party" during this era should be taken in the larger context of that person's subsequent life, whatever that is.

/just sayin' ... it's a gray area

* Eleven of the individuals who received "retention" bonuses of $1 million or more are no longer working at AIG, including one who received $4.6 million

Watch that vid I just posted and it helps with questions like that. All stuff I knew but explained quite perfectly. The modern Liberal will invariably side with the tyrant, the evil, due to a lifelong habit of being indiscriminate. It's been ingrained in them from childhood, that to differentiate between right and wrong, good and evil, better and worse, winner and loser...is an evil thing, and so will inevitably side with the tyrant.

"That which is held in esteem qualifies to be their target. That which is held in disdain qualifies to be their mascot."

re: #382 Creeping Eruption

Has anyone ever heard a "rational" explanation why che imagery is so popular?

Pop culture iconography. The beret, shaggy hair, defiant expression, and swarthy visage are a direct challenge to the media-industrial complex's standard (and false) portrayal of middle America. It is a perfect embodiment of "illusion of distinction" advertising, in which the objective is to portray slavish conformity as rebellion and individualism. This has been the central theme of the advertising industry, and therefore of mass media, since Doyle-Dane-Bernbach first developed it in the late 1950s. Essentially, Che was the new James Dean, but far more representative of the meme itself, Stalinist oppressor as societal rebel and free spirit being a perfect archetype for mass produced junk as personal symbol of individualism and distinction.

For much, much more on this history and methodology, see The Conquest of Cool by Thomas Frank. In documenting the connection between leftist politics and standard advertising tropes, Frank has produced the Rosetta Stone of media bias. That he is a noted lefty himself only enhances its credibility.

"She did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," said a statement from the resort.

Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse said Richardson was getting a private lesson and that she said she was fine at first.

"An hour later she said she didn't feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital," Lacasse said. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing."

Coming in late here, but I strongly suspect that this jerk simply has no idea what that T shirt represents (had; by now he probably knows). If he did he wouldn't have worn it regardless of his personal opinions.

496 Taqiyyotomist  Tue, Mar 17, 2009 1:13:33pm

More on Che-worship.
Since Liberals don't discriminate, that is, since they view no culture, system of thought, government, no religion, idea, nothing at all is better than or worse than anything else (since to admit this, ever, would be committing the great sin of discrimination), then any of these systems which led to success must have done so by cheating. Therefore, the USA and Israel, for example, must have become the most successful systems on the planet in facet after facet, from indusry to ingenuity to happiness, by virtue of somehow cheating, because it couldn't POSSIBLY have been by virtue of the particular system, since it is preordained that no system is better or worse than any other. Every time they will side with and champion those systems which lead to failure, because they have to - that's how they've programmed themselves. INDISCRIMINATE is their kernal. With that prime directive they've painted themselves into a corner where they can ONLY side with the systems (and people who follow them) which lead to failure. "That which is held in disdain qualifies to be their mascot." Every time.

Does anyone here know what it means when you get a "blue screen error"?

Not even Bill Gates knows, but what does he care?

Seriously, it means your PC crashed because of some internal conflict. The most common one, other than components or memory failing, is graphics driver incompatibilities with some software. An older PC may not be able to do what some graphics programs expect it to.

For example, my old notebook would often croak when running Google Earth and that was due to the ancient graphics board it had.

re: #479 shiplord kirel

Thanks for taking the time.

Of all things he represents AIG and show up like a dolt at this event wearing this while at the same time AIG is receiving criticism for using TARP money to line the pockets of their failing executives.

Perhaps this event was for a good cause but there didn't seem to be many Cubans at this event. I would like to see Gerry Pasciucco show up at an event in Little Havana wearing this t-shirt.

Clueless.

Yes but weren't there rumors she had left leanings. Ya know ran with the red crowd, and that is besides her hair?

Yes she did. She registered to vote as a Communist. So did a number of people who got misguided during the Great Depression.

From her 1953 FBI files:

The subject's file reflects no activities that would warrant her inclusion on the Security Index. The subject's file is being maintained in a closed status.

She donated to the Black Panthers (apparently to their 'breakfast program') in the 60s or 70s.

Draw your own conclusions.

The FBI files were very easy to google but it took me a fair amount of time to read them. A rumor is halfway around the world while the truth is looking for its boots?

One of the newly-hired cleanup crew openly wearing a Che tee shirt at a "Fiesta Cuba" event does not sound too encouraging. I, may be wrong, but do assume more Cuban-Americans than not would be non-Che supporters. If you wear it, you bare/bear it, I believe. Mr. Pasciucco wore it.

[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSoD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is a humorous term used for the error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.

Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems are usually caused by poorly-written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens.

Bluescreens can also be caused by physical faults such as faulty memory, power supplies, overheating of computer components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; earlier, OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

The term "Blue Screen of Death" originated during OS/2 pre-release development activities at Lattice Inc, the makers of an early Windows and OS/2 C compiler. During porting of Lattice's other tools, developers encountered the stop screen when NULL pointers were dereferenced either in application code or when unexpectedly passed into system API calls. During reviews of progress and feedback to IBM Austin, Texas, the developers described the stop screen as the Blue Screen of Death to denote the screen and the finality of the experience.[citation needed]

I know I sound pedantic, but I was, after all, a teacher. The hoi polloi are, literally, "the masses," not the elite. The common folk are the hoi polloi.

Also, saying they'd all bend over backward, or even that most of them would, to help a stranger is pointless. We can no more know if they would do that than we could know if they would all speed on the freeway or buy tofu. As individuals, they have no doubt varying degrees of positive and negative qualities, like every other group.

As individuals, I would take them such. My comment is aimed at them as a group. The mere fact that they like to get gussied up and show off at "look at me! I raised money" fundraisers is all we know about them as a group, and they annoy me as a group.
