Actually, the worst part for me is light and sound. So when I'm in the midst of one, there isn't a cave close enough with soundproofing when I need it. So yes, I can look at my computer screen and not feel like I'm going to throw up. That's a very good thing.

Well, one silver lining is that Obama's incompetence is becoming widely known despite the pathetic covering/rationalizing attempts of the MSM. This suggests several possibilities, namely that 1) his incompetence is so huge and pervasive that it cannot be fully covered up, and/or 2) the MSM is losing more and more of its ability to cover for liberals as a general principle. Tuscan Beefsteak:

Lay an oak fire. This is very important, and a step not to be missed. It won’t melt your Webber kettle, though the fire may prove harder to start than a charcoal fire.

The secret to this isn’t the steak. It’s the sauce. The secret to the sauce is to begin it once the fire is laid.

Begin with ½ shallot (moderately finely chopped) for every person, and garlic to taste; a teaspoon of minced ginger will also bring up the flavors. We tend to go overboard on the garlic front – about a teaspoon per person.

Sauté in butter until shallots become limp. You may – if your cholesterol is making your doctor frown at you – use olive oil instead.
Begin adding ¼ cup red wine per person (I suggest a fairly dry shiraz or softer cabernet – not merlot or zinfandel; I will hunt you down and administer twenty lashes with a wet noodle if you use a petite syrah or a pinot noir) and beef broth, about ½ cup per person.

Reduce and keep reducing; add a bit more wine and broth if it reduces past the point of serving everyone. Do not add any more shallots, though, or all you will taste is shallot.

The steaks should be about 1 inch thick, and grilled over the oak fire I told you to lay. Do not forget to begin the process with the steaks at room temperature. You may impress and terrify your friends by doing this over coals (about an hour and a half burn time) in your fireplace, should you have an actual wood-burning fireplace, instead of ye olde gas log. Just salt and pepper the steaks to taste, cook them to your desired degree of charring (I tend to favor fairly rare), then slice, spoon sauce over the meat and serve.

Generally, we accompany this with a pasta in cream sauce, with capers, smoked salmon and sun-dried tomatoes available to toss on top.

Get your vegetation from your salad; this is seriously disappointing when accompanied by veggies.

My daughter came home from college for a visit last weekend.

fourteen years in a very good private school and got a scholarship.
When she was about ten, she could tell you what all the clothing
stores at the mall had.(price was irrelevant) Saturday morning
she went shopping and came home with a new pair of cowboy
boots. Sunday morning she left going back to school wearing
a very nice sun dress and cowboy boots. I really just don't
understand. Maybe it has something to do with school in
West Virginia.

One of our kittehs was fixed and declawed and when I came to pick her up the look on her face plainly said "I WILL get you for this." She did too - left gifts for me a half-inch outside the litterbox. That was a sarcastic cat.

Puppy was just thrilled to see us when we got him from the vet.
