Tariq Ramadan Tries Again

US News • Views: 2,139

Islamist “scholar” Tariq Ramadan was barred from entering the United States in 2004 by the Bush State Department, and left-wing academics, the ACLU, and the Muslim Brotherhood have been relentlessly trying to get the ban lifted ever since. Now that Foggy Bottom’s under the control of Barack Obama, they might succeed: Tariq Ramadan Rides Again.

Bringing him to this country to pose as an educator is a travesty. Nor is this a question of civil liberties, since unlike American citizens who have the right to say whatever they like without government interference, foreign foes of this country have no intrinsic right to travel or work here. Moreover, the effort to paint Ramadan as simply a controversial academic is false, as Fouad Ajami pointed out in a valuable article in the Wall Street Journal in 2004. A victory for Ramadan would be one more confirmation that under Barack Obama, America has slipped back into a complacent Sept. 10 mentality in regard to those who would destroy us.

The New York Times is unequivocally in favor of letting Ramadan teach at Notre Dame, of course: U.S. Is Urged to Lift Ban on Foreign Scholars.

this sort of thing has worked out so well for Britain, I don't see why we shouldn't try it...

I am really amazed at how fast Obama seems to be screwing up everything.
Somehow this is Bush's fault I'm sure.

6 ProUSA  Wed, Mar 18, 2009 4:12:13pm

If I was a gambling man, I would bet that the Zero or his appointees let Tariq into the USA. You, know it will let our enemies know we like them, so they will like us back. And, it is very important to have such scholars teach here. We have so much to learn from them.

I beg to differ. This is not pre-9/11/2001 thinking. This is post-1/20/2009 thinking. Before 9/11, it was possible to be naive, to claim ignorance. But now, if you side with or enable the bad guys, you must be doing it consciously and purposely.

As complaints about Tariq Ramadan rise, don't forget to brace for another round of accusations against the same Israeli lobby that brought down that poor dear Chas Freeman.

21 midwestgak  Wed, Mar 18, 2009 4:16:08pm

Reasons Why

Here are some reasons why Mr. Ramadan might have been kept out:

He has praised the brutal Islamist policies of the Sudanese politician Hassan Al-Turabi. Mr. Turabi in turn called Mr. Ramadan the "future of Islam."
Mr. Ramadan was banned from entering France in 1996 on suspicion of having links with an Algerian Islamist who had recently initiated a terrorist campaign in Paris.
Ahmed Brahim, an Algerian indicted for Al-Qaeda activities, had "routine contacts" with Mr. Ramadan, according to a Spanish judge (Baltasar Garzón) in 1999.
Djamel Beghal, leader of a group accused of planning to attack the American embassy in Paris, stated in his 2001 trial that he had studied with Mr. Ramadan.
Along with nearly all Islamists, Mr. Ramadan has denied that there is "any certain proof" that Bin Laden was behind 9/11.
He publicly refers to the Islamist atrocities of 9/11, Bali, and Madrid as "interventions," minimizing them to the point of near-endorsement.

Yikes. If this guy's a "foreign scholar," then Hitler was just an "energetic public speaker."

Anyone can hijack the label of "foreign scholar" so long as that "scholar" is able to present opinion and hyperbole as fact in an "academic" way. All one needs is enough PR and clones repeating the same lie over and over that he or she is a "scholar" and from there it's just a matter of time before the American media picks up the ball and runs with it. I've witnessed it first hand here in the SF Bay Area with the 'Occupation 101' crowd. The anti-Israel speakers aren't scholars at all, but they're well-dressed, put on a good show to a captive and ignorant audience, and have the pr to back them up.

You know, the thought occurs to me that Mr. Ramadan is a bit like certain plants. If you plant them, you can never get rid of them afterward. You will be dealing with the after-effects of having allowed this plant to take root.

For example, I have been trying to get rid of some mint for about six years now. Unlike Mr. Ramadan, mint can be useful, but it took over. Clover and crab grass also come to mind. (I just spent some quality time with the clover in the back yard.)

It isn't as much Mr. Ramadan, as the runners he will spread out, the ideas that will take root in vulnerable minds, the "study groups" of certain types of young men, which will bring trouble on the US for years to come.

Obama Drops Controversial Health Care Plan for Wounded Veterans

President Obama, after an uproar by veterans groups, has scrapped a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of troops injured in service.

"In considering the third-party billing issue, the administration was seeking to maximize the resources available for veterans," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday in a written statement. "However, the president listened to concerns raised by the [veteran service organizations] that this might, under certain circumstances, affect veterans' and their families' ability to access health care.

"Therefore, the president has instructed that its consideration be dropped," Gibbs said.

This cost him a lot of hard feelings and future votes.

The good news is, it proves Obama can be pressured to back down -- even with his egomaniacal "mandate."

One step forward and two steps back. There's the climate wealth redistribution scheme that will cost 3x as much as previously estimated - $2 trillion.

There's the Obama AG contemplating a rewrite of drug policy and overlooking antitrust concerns in the media industry as newspapers implode from their own bad business decisions.

Oh, and Obama's going to try and convince people he's on the right track in another presser on the 24th. Prime time.

Actually, the only thing that can be assured is that the teleprompter will be prepared. The guy reading it... not so much.

I'm really digging the irony with that one.

He really was an actual person:

Cardinal Sin

Cardinal Sin was only the third native Filipino Archbishop of Manila, following centuries of Spanish, American and Irish episcopacy.
...
His name should not be confused with "cardinal sin", which is synonymous for the seven deadly sins, and it has also been the source of many jokes in the Philippines revolving around him such as "The greatest sin of all...Cardinal Sin" or "Welcome to the House of Sin" referring to his Church. (it was also an item in "Ripley's Believe It or Not").

From Salon:

Controversial scholar Tariq Ramadan explains why Mohammed had progressive views of women, why the Quran is a prescription for peace -- and why he is banned from Saudi Arabia and the U.S.

What do you think non-Muslims need to know about Mohammed? What are some of the most common misunderstandings?

The perception they have is all about violence, it's all about otherness, it's all about discrimination toward women. And I think all this is wrong. He was promoting peace. And the way he was with women was far ahead of what we sometimes find in Islamic-majority countries today. You know, the Prophet's life is really an introduction to Islam.

The picture you present of Mohammed is someone who had a very forward-looking attitude about the status of women. What lessons can Muslim women take away from Mohammed's life?

First, he was really treating women as women -- and not only as mothers, or sisters or daughters in Islam. Women are equal before God and have the same rights and duties. More than that, he was so respectful. He taught people the way they have to deal with women. When his daughter came to him, he stood up and welcomed her, talked to her, respected her, kissed her in front of the people. At that time, to have a daughter in this Arab tribe was quite a dishonor. It was not valued in society. And he was welcoming women in the mosque, letting them enter and talk in the mosque. Today, in the 21st century, people don't even let women come into the mosque and practice their religion. He was promoting knowledge. His own wife, Aishah, was a scholar. This is something that we cannot forget about his life.

I respond with the dreaded and banned Indonesian Mo-toons of Doom (scroll down the page about 1/3rd of the way), which show the real Mohammed (derived from actual Quranic sources):

In late 2008, satirical cartoon strips based on the Qur'an and depicting Mohammed were published on an Indonesian blog. The cartoons caused an uproar, including calls for the artist to be put to death, as reported by the Malaysian news agency "Bernama":
...
The artist apparently removed the images from the blog, but later translated some of them into English, and (under the user name "CopperKid") briefly uploaded them to FaithFreedom.org, before they were once again taken down. Fortunately, a Mohammed Image Archive reader (who wishes to remain anonymous) had saved some of these images before they disappeared, and sent them along with a brief explanation of their provenance. These cartoon panels -- 15 in all -- are presented below. CopperKid's fate is unknown.

The first group of six panels tell the story of Mohammed's ludicrous and hypocritical justifications for his sexual appetite, using actual quotes from the Qur'an and other sacred Islamic texts. The next seven panels relate a separate incident once again involving Mohammed's disturbing and sordid sexual behavior, once again relying on Islamic texts.

You do realize the only reason they are backing off is because it would hurt them - not because it would hurt the troops, right?

Again, I suggested that some on the right would say that after he dropped the plan from consideration. Answer me a simple question, why would he increase the VA budget by 25 billion, then accept a plan on the table to save 500 million ? If he wanted to hurt the troops, he would not of increased the VA budget above what even they asked for.
Here's what the Vietnam Veterans of America vet leader said about the issue:

"However, as far as veterans are concerned, this is the best budget submitted by a President in the 30-year history of VVA." Rowan cited the proposed $25 billion increase above the baseline over the next five years; the restoration of health-care eligibility for veterans of modest incomes, which the administration predicts will enable half a million eligible veterans to access the VA health care system by 2013; and making highly disabled veterans who are medically retired from service eligible for concurrent receipt of disability benefits from the VA, in addition to the retirement benefits they receive from the Department of Defense.

"Given this administration's unprecedented willingness to work with the veterans' community to make sure this budget will be one that all veterans can support enthusiastically," Rowan stated, "we feel comfortable that, with President Obama having met with veteran leaders yesterday in the White House and the willingness of senior staff to conduct follow-up meetings, they are receptive to our ideas on how to make this budget better for veterans.

We'll see what happens. This could go either way. Despite all the rhetoric Obama has upheld a lot of Bush's policies. The FBI cut ties with CAIR after Obama took office. I think that was a positive sign. In the end it really doesn't make much difference. Bush allowed Ahmedinijad to go on a speaking tour and the world didn't end. Tariq Ramadan is a high profile Islamist spokesman but does he really pose a security threat? I doubt he's going to blow up stuff while he's here. He'll make some dopey speeches to leftists at universities and have dinner with CAIR but it's not really important.

"Given this administration's unprecedented willingness to work with the veterans' community to make sure this budget will be one that all veterans can support enthusiastically," Rowan stated, "we feel comfortable that, with President Obama having met with veteran leaders yesterday in the White House and the willingness of senior staff to conduct follow-up meetings, they are receptive to our ideas on how to make this budget better for veterans.

so windy...did it ever ocure to you BO doesn't want the bad vibe that tens of thousands of Vets would lay on him...of course not....you are simply an enabler getting hosed

It is very clear that Obama and the Democrats are on a full charge to restore America to the glories of the Carter era. Pushing as hard and fast as they can, from their perspective it is 1977 all over again. People forget, Jerry Ford held the line until Jan 20, 1977.

Then just as now, the economy, beset by high oil prices and transitional economic changes, tanked. Cutting defense as fast as you can spell Kerry, the Dems went to work. So did America's enemies. The killing fields of Cambodia ran with blood, Russia expanded its power and massively expanded its arsenals.

The Democrats are intent on creating a hammerlock on American politics in much the same way they did in the 30s. Vets did not vote for Obama, screw them, they can pay for their benefits. Big business: die. Small business, you get health care and card check, better work harder Ms. Entrepreneur because all your tax deductions are GONE!

It is not about what is good for the country, it is about what is good for Democrats. I had lunch with my Obamanaut buddy and he raved at how great everything is. I asked him if he was paying enough for his heat and light? What do you mean he asked. Are you paying enough for power? Fully implemented, cap and trade will triple the price of energy to everyone. Won't that expand the economy? But implicit in cap and trade is the power to regulate ALL carbon emissions. That means YOUR carbon emissions. That means that if you want to load up the car and go to Disney world, initially, you will have to just pay your tax. But if we know anything about regulation it is that it expand continuously- eventually, you will have to ask the Carbon Commisar for permission to expend carbon. Any resemblance to single payer medical reforms is intentional. It is all the same plan. They decide for us. They know better because they went to the Democratic National convention. To make sure they have plenty of voters, immigration reform is coming. You know the idea where you open the borders and let anyone in regardless of who they are and how loyal they are to the Nation? The way Mo Atta and his 18 fellow scum marched into the country unchallenged. It worked so well last time..... let's do it again!

Post script- Who wasn't touched to see Jimmy Carter back at the White House. What a great man! I am sure he had some great ideas from his new fact-packed book on how Israel should surrender to the barbaric murderers in Hamas.

Miss America makes another amazingly idiotic statement.

Pelosi: Enforcing American immigration law is un-American

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is “un-American.”…
“You are special people. You’re here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country’s future. That makes you very, very patriotic.”

“I was embarrassed by what she said,” said Rick Oltman, with Californians for Population Stabilization, an anti-illegal immigrant group. “Exhorting illegal aliens for taking responsibility for our country’s future…. In fact, sitting there in the audience…. I really resented that comment.”

If you are aware that the one existing example of national health care--the VA--is currently below private standards, as you seem to be, how on earth could you vote willingly for lowering the national health care standard?

A victory for Ramadan would be one more confirmation that under Barack Obama, America has slipped back into a complacent Sept. 10 mentality in regard to those who would destroy us.

It's more than a complacent Sept 10 mentality. As of 9/11/01, we know this man is an enemy. He has been denied entry to the USA for good reason. Letting him in, with all we know about Islamic radicals, would constitute explicitly giving aid and comfort to the enemy. In other words, it would be treason.

There. I said it. Obama and the NYT and all the other lefties are advocating treason by letting this fuckwad back into the United States. I don't care how they spin it and dress it up with fancy post-modern talk, that is what they are advocating.

Some Gitmo prisoners could be released in U.S., Holder says

Yes, because we want suicide bombers free in America. Good Call, Holder. You are as dumb as your boss.

I'm having a hard time understanding this:

Holder told reporters at the Justice Department that the administration's review, made on a case-by-case basis, would determine whether the prisoners need to be put on trial or whether they can be released.

"For those who are in that second category, who can be released, there are a variety of options that we have. Among them is the possibility that we could release them into this country," he said.

Holder said it was possible the 17 Chinese Muslims who have been held for years at Guantanamo, and two or three others prisoners, could be freed in the United States.

The 17 members of the Uighur ethic group have been cleared for release but have nonetheless remained at Guantanamo while the United States tries to find a country willing to take them. The U.S. government has said it cannot return them to China because they would face persecution there.

"We've been trying to come up with places for them," Holder said of the Uighurs. Their lawyers have asked Obama to bring them to the United States.

Maybe we should let American mass murderers go free. Ya know, just to be fair.

Fed to pump another $1 trillion into U.S. economy

The Fed said it would purchase an additional $750 billion worth of government-guaranteed mortgage-backed securities, on top of the $500 billion that it is currently in the process of buying. In addition, the Fed said it would buy up to $300 billion worth of longer-term Treasury securities over the next six months. That would tend to push down longer-term interest rates on loans of all types.

I see Wikipedia wasted no time in crossing Natasha Richardson's bar
1963-2009.

One of my favorite poem is "Crossing the Bar" by Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Kanye West -- Charged With 3 Crimes

Kanye West has just been charged with three criminal misdemeanors -- vandalism, battery, and grand theft -- in connection with the camera-smashing incident at LAX.

The L.A. City Attorney has also charged Don Crowley, Kanye's manager, with the following crimes -- two counts of vandalism, two counts of battery and two counts of grand theft.

TMZ happened to catch the incident on tape. In fact, Kanye broke our camera light as we were shooting. Crowley is charged with breaking both the TMZ camera and the still camera. Kanye is charged with breaking the flash accessory to the still camera.

The incident occurred last September 11. Both men are scheduled to be arraigned on April 14.

Kanye could get up to 2 1/2 years in jail if convicted on all counts. Crowley could get five years.

Glorification of attack on local Asian
The Neo-Nazi internet forum Stormfront, which is frequented by many members of the BNP, has yet again seen celebration of a violent attack on another innocent ethnic minority local. The Asian teenager from Epping has undergone reconstructive surgery on his face following the brutal attack, which Stormfront members found hilarious.

A similar violent attack on a 34 year-old black man in Debden, Loughton, also evoked mirth among the Neo-Nazis, who celebrated attack as an act of 'resistance'.

Officials today release the Draft schedule for the upcoming Radical Professor yearly College draft.. Speaking on the record officials expressed relief that finally the US University system could begin bidding for the services of radical educations from all stripes.
" We have in the Big Ten been Deprived for years of the opportunities that Yale and Berkeley take for granted"
Rumor has it the bidding was fierce for Prof. Ramadan's services between Notre Dame and numerous unknown Colleges. His Salary is said to be in the 6 figures with a signing bonus and buy out clause.
An associate close to the negotiations off the record claimed with President Omama now in Office that access to valuable radical educators is just beginning to open up in a free market direction. Much to the relief to high up members of the Administration The national media and the NCAA.
Others are giddy even, " If we could get Bin Laden to do an on-line course..That would just be a gold mine!" Gushed an unnamed Big East University President.

The difference is that the government is currently being controlled by people who are actively and openly advocating a Socialist takeover. Barney Frank is arguably the one person most responsible for the financial collapse caused by the crash of the mortgage industry, and he is arguably most responsible for pushing for the very circumstances that created the mess in the first place.

Reading an article in Scientific American and they mention a CT scan.

How would you assess a patient after a fall like this?

The most important test would be a CT scan (a 3D X-ray that can provide cross-section images of anatomical structures), which would tell you if there is bleeding in the brain itself. If there is bleeding, it would tell you if it needs to be relieved with surgery or with medication. It would also give you an indication if she's had a stroke, and whether she's had one of these arterial dissections that may be showering blood clots into the brain.

One last thing, as the echoes of Obama's tactical withdrawal on privatizing veterans' care die away: consider how appalling this notion is, and at the same time how the Democrats will savage anyone who even whispers something about privatizing Social Security.

I hope I'm not missing the Big picture..Obama is going to Nationalize the entire Healthcare system like Europe just like he said he was going to do..who can stop him? The VA may just be a piece of the bigger puzzle here..
How much difference was there between Hillary's plan from Barrys? Small details...Crap!

The reports say the paramedics wanted to take her to hospital. She refused and said she felt fine. Later she started to feel unwell and had a headache.
It's not about what was or was not available in Canada. She refused treatment.

Her in the States, it's called Informed Consent. The patient has to be capable of making an informed decision. As an EMT I would have been justified and did on several occasions over rule patients with head injuries and transport them. One of the symptoms of head injury is lack of cooperation and belligerence.

Again without knowing specifics this is just speculation. But I have forced people to the hospital in those circumstances and was covered both medically and legally. It's a fine line, and judgement of the crew in the field is critical.

Will there be "OUTRAGE" over this?

Fannie plans bonuses of $1M for 4 execs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Fannie Mae plans to pay retention bonuses of at least $1 million to four key executives as part of a plan to keep hundreds of employees from leaving the government-controlled company.

Rival mortgage finance company Freddie Mac is planning similar awards, but has not yet reported on which executives will benefit.

The two companies, which together own or back more than half of the home mortgages in the country, have been hobbled by skyrocketing loan defaults. Fannie recently requested $15 billion in federal aid, while Freddie has sought a total of almost $45 billion.

Fannie Mae disclosed its "broad-based" retention program in a recent regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company was only required to disclose the amounts for the top-paid executives, who will pocket at least $470,000 on top of their base salaries

OK, sorry for the snip...but....
This is going un-reported.
Los Angeles - 15,000 people turn out to lambaste tax-and-spend politicians in both parties in Fullerton, CA,

Cincinnati - The Cincinnati Tea Party organizers told us it was going to be big. And it was. Organizer J. Binik-Thomas e-mails this evening that 5,000 folks turned out for the protest and more than 1,600 people signed a petition to ask local governments to reject porkulus funding.

It is a real "ACTIVIST" thingy like stuff movement.........just not smelly.........

You don't seem to be aware of the way I look at our system right now. In my way of seeing things, there is nothing we do down here in the trenches that have any effect on the politicians, any politicians.

The whole political system in this country has become beholden to special interest and big money. If you are in Washington, that's because you will be of some use to these people, the ones who are actually pulling the strings and making the rules.

Much of what has been happening in the recent weeks is proof of what I am saying.

Look at the reverse in statements just today, Dodd admitting that he protected the bonuses in the current bailout.

So, these little "tea party" groups are only make busy stuff for us so we feel like we are making a difference.

We are not making a difference. It's going to take a lot more than holding placards and chanting in the streets.

You'll see.

A statement from the Mont Tremblant resort said Richardson fell on a beginners trail and later reported not feeling well.

“She did not show any visible sign of injury but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor,” said the statement from the resort, about 80 miles northwest of Montreal.

The ski resort said the instructor and a member of the ski patrol accompanied Richardson to her hotel, where they again recommended she be seen by a doctor. Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse said Richardson said she seemed fine at first.

“An hour later she said she didn’t feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital,” Lacasse said. “There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing.”

That's the rub, and problem dealing with head injuries. When and wear is the line of informed consent?

That's not an idle question.

Canada law may and probably is different. And I don't know what those parameters the Aid Crew was working under.

In WA with head injuries the Aid Crew would have wide latitude to make a determination that under the circumstances the patient is not competent to refuse treatment.

It's not a simple call. However in my career I was right far more than not and the patient needed treatment.

A similar incident finished off punk rock singer Stiv Bators. He was on a Paris street, and got hit and knocked over by a passing car. He refused to get medical help, saying he was fine. A few hours later, he was dead of massive internal bleeding. There was speculation afterwards that the guy had hurt himself so many times performing onstage that he was largely insensitive to pain, and didn't realize how badly he'd been busted up inside.

Christ, this is just what I need....
Tempting the tax auditor

Overall in fiscal year 2008 (Oct. 1, 2007 through Sept. 30, 2008), the IRS took a second look at almost 1.4 million returns. That's the highest number of audits since 1998.

There are anecdotal reports that the IRS is paying closer attention to returns that contain large mortgage interest deductions on Schedule A. And if you're a small business person, either as a partnership or a Schedule C filer reporting self-employment income on your personal tax return, make sure you take extra care with your returns.

There's a good reason for the IRS' increased interest in small business filers. Because self-employment income typically has no verification mechanism (i.e., the IRS can't double check much of it in the way it can verify wage income via an employer-issued W-2), tax officials believe that many small business people underreport their income.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."

The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as "very, very patriotic."

"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco.

I'm a little disturbed by the anti jury duty sentiment. I would never go out of my way to avoid jury duty. As a citizen, I've always felt it is one of our important obligations. I've been called several times and chosen once. Yes it was a little inconvenient but I found the whole criminal process fascinating. It's not at all like you see on TV. I sat on a jury that heard a case of young man who held a sawed off shotgun to his grandmothers head in an attempt to get drug money. I consider myself fairly intelligent and it occurred to me, during the deliberations, that should I ever be on trial, I'd like to have serious and engaged people sitting on my jury.

Yeah. The story was inherently a tear jerker. It was about a young man that died under fire in Iraq or Afghanistan and (I forgot which) and is credited for helping to save his platoon.

I'm glad that at least he tells that story. It's something that's been in great shortage in the TV medium.

Sorry if I mislead. I was being sarcastic. I get paid jury leave from my employer and see it as a duty.

Drunken mayhem mars St. Patrick's in Ireland

OTTAWA (AFP) – A group of stranded British explorers fighting to survive at the North Pole received vital supplies of food, fuel and equipment Wednesday after a mission hampered by bad weather finally reached them, organizers of the aid effort said.

...The North Pole, he said, is "no place to just hang around" when temperatures drop below minus 40 degrees Celsius -- equivalent to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

...The team aims to gather data to complement satellite and submarine observations to measure the sea ice and plot how fast it is disappearing during their 850-kilometer (530-mile) trek.

Global warming is believed to be the main culprit in the rapidly melting north polar ice cap that is freeing up new sea routes and untapped mineral resources on the ocean bottom.

...In an earlier statement, Hadow described the team's desperate plight.

"We're hungry, the cold is relentless, our sleeping bags are full of ice and because we're not moving, the colder we get," he said.

These morons almost died in -40 degree subzero weather to prove global warming is real?

Miss Richardson had been taking a private ski lesson at the resort when she fell on a 'green' slope, suitable for beginners.
She was at the bottom of the run in an area known as The Flats during the afternoon lesson, when she tumbled down the hill.
Initially Miss Richardson, who was not wearing a helmet, appeared unhurt.

She got up laughing and refused to see a doctor, witnesses said, even signing a medical form saying she did not need help.

But an hour after returning to her hotel room, the Tony award-winning actress began to experience severe headaches and was taken to hospital.
She received emergency treatment at the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien, nearby, and was then transferred to Montreal's Sacre Coeur Hospital.

The problem, I think, is that Obama has no deeply held core beliefs.

His "beliefs" are whatever happens to be needed right at the moment to further his career. OR, they are so deeply against the grain of what is America that he cannot state his true beliefs or people would be frightened away.

He's got to have that script, so he can say what it's necessary to say, not what he believes.

Gun Advocates Ready for Battle on Federal Assault Weapons Ban

Get ready for a gunfight.

Attorney General Eric Holder is using the drug violence in Mexico to "confuse and mislead" Americans in an attempt to reinstate the expired Federal Assault Weapons Ban, gun advocates claim.

Holder revealed his intention to reinstate the ban last month while announcing more than 700 arrests in connection with a crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the United States.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to re-institute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder said. "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum."

Holder said reinstating the ban would decrease the flow of guns from the U.S. into Mexico. He declined to offer a timeframe for any re-implementation; Justice Department spokesman Matt Miller also declined comment on Tuesday.

But Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, told FOXNews.com that Holder's "argument in general is bizarre."

I had to speak about efforts in Chicago to document black history. It was in honor of womens history month. The other speaker was talking about documentation of 2nd wave feminists. I started to say something snarky during the Q&A in regards to conservative women being neglected in the womens movement but I held my tongue. It was not the place for it and honestly my views would piss off most donors.

Though it is interesting that Natasha Richardson can die from brain injuries and Ted Kennedy has brain surgery for a tumor and is still alive. Laura Ingram just had a neurosurgeon on and he said they only know 1% about how the brain functions. That is a baffling statistic.

Picasso, he was a dalmatian and just turned 13. I had him put down because I was just about feeding him and he was wearing diapers and it just seemed the right thing to do. I had another dal named Paloma. She died in 2005. Now i have one left Francois.

I am having surgery in a week, so who knows maybe I wont be here long either.

You better be fine, Missy. We're all pulling for you.

It's hard to make a decision to put an animal to sleep. I went with a friend once to do that for her cat, and it shakes the hell out of you. If you don't mind, I'll include Picasso in my prayers. A good dog is a blessing.

I pretty much did that the one time I was selected for jury duty. Not the hat/shirt thing, but I made certain to list the fact that I'm an NRA Life Member and a senior NCO in the Army Reserve on the questionnaire.

The lawyers didn't even ask me any questions before dismissing me.

My college chaplain always explained that she was an ordained Baptist minister, and that she believed that only God can judge a man.

They never asked her to stay.

I have panic disorder.
This is general anesthesia
I can't take my meds for 24 hours.
They have to wake me just right w/o startling me or I will go full blown on them and could have a heart attack.

It's all very ironic because a guy like this can get into the US at any time and any place.

His poison is as insidious as Ramadan's - if not more so.

British film director: Rise in anti-Semitism understandable

A leading British film director has said that a rise in anti-Semitism in Europe since Israel's operation in Gaza is "not surprising" and "understandable," claiming that Operation Cast Lead was "a cold blooded massacre."

[Link: www.jpost.com...]

Now you have a all purpose excuse to hate and harm Jews [if you were lacking in one before] - GAZA.

I swear to God, the double standard is ****ing amazing. Can you imagine such a person saying that increased bigotry and violence against Muslims following a jihadnik terror attack was understandable? No, nor should he.

****ing Naomi Klein, years ago in the Guardian, said something to the effect that when an American or Canadian synagogue is vandalized, we should say 'thanks, Sharon', instead of blaming the perpetrators. Same stupid half-assed thinking, halfway between tribalism and identity politics.

As a good friend of mine is fond of saying, something you just need to say **** a lot. ****!

at the time of the murder the killer was dressed straight, but with a long history...it was envy over a teen...total bullshit and a waste of my time as a citizen and I told them that...

A murder is a waste of your time as a citizen? You're hoping for a classier murder?

I'm sure you've discussed this at length with those who need to know. You'll be just fine!

Your 'panic disorder' status will be CLEARLY marked on your chart! You will be 'eased' to sleep by the anesthesiologist, and the staff in the recovery room will make sure you aren't startled in any way.

Why not 'suggest' a musical choice for background playing during/after surgery? We go for that at my hospital . . . .

re: #693 Killgore Trout

Ah, I just realized that from the fascists at the FDA. Same people the you that you can't eat a rare steak or medium rare pork.

Isn't 'fascists' a little harsh? If you eat a rare steak, what are they going to do to you? Maybe 'yentas'?

;)

and no one knows what color anyone is...or what sexual persuasion or how old

unless they make it an issue

and then, there is absolutely no way to verify what people say about themselves

I find, the more people say about themselves, the more likely it is not true

People give info about themselves all the time. It may be true, it may be false. For all I know, Afrocity is a white teenage boy in Los Altos. Do I care? I have to interact with the information I'm given.

Thanks, actually I have not said much about it because the doc doing my surgery is not my general doctor who is in internal medicine. But I will call tomorrow and tell them, I thought it was just for me to deal with. 98% of my panic attacks occur just when I wake up so I will ask if I can wear my iPod.

it just becomes annoying since the same narrative keeps getting recycled
Info about oneself in passing is natural, some really let too much hang out there

I react to the ideas and attitudes described in the posts I read

yes me too, especially the attitudes. Lots of anger out there and hope. If someone doesn't like me or my style that is their issue. In the last 3 years btwn my mom, pets, moving from NYC, busting my ass during the election, teaching...I have been to hell and back. People can say there worse about me but I still bless them and move on. My mom always said, worry when people stop talking about you. She was wise.

He isn't done apologizing to every enemy we have ever had yet.

Obama will apologize for every war we won before his term is over. He showed disdain to our guests from England because we won a war together. Obama wants to lose all wars even those we already won. Watch Iraq turnaround and go back to a dictatorship with Obama's appoval and smile.

I hope you're still here.

Even though I do not know the type of surgery you are having, I can be certain of a few matters.

Panic attacks are serious matters . . . . , discussing this with the doc prior to doing the surgery is of the utmost importance! No surgeon wants their patient to have an issue while on the table. Nor does an anesthesiologist want a patient to have a 'bad reaction' to anesthesia either during or after surgery!

You will be quite relieved once you discuss this with the medical team. The medical team welcomes input such as yours, it makes their job a lot easier! There are lots of anesthesia options available. You may not have to d/c your med routine, the anesthesiologist can factor stuff like that into his course of treatment for your specific needs.

re: #359 Aviator

Actually, more likely to have been an epidural hematoma.

Could have been (per neurologist Dr. Dexter Sun, who practices at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell in New York City) that she had a harder spill than was reported and had a high level cervical spine fracture or a fracture at the base of the skull, When this occurs, and the injured person continues to move around as Natasha did -- not realizing that she was seriously hurt -- the spine can touch the brain stem and cause a severe brain injury.

Or could have been:

A high impact fall on the head can also cause three different types of bleeding within the brain: 1) an intracranial hemorrhage, which begins as a microscopic rupture of a blood vessel deep within the brain, 2) a subdural hematoma, which is a bleed that occurs in the dura, which is the outer layer of the brain, or 3) an epidural hematoma, which is a hemmorrhage, that takes place between the outer skull and the dura.

The New York Times is unequivocally in favor of letting Ramadan teach at Notre Dame, of course

How about a little flag football between ND's football team and ND's ROTC? Like on the front lawn of whatever building Tariq Ramadan is lecturing in...when he is walking out...in white out conditions...

791 eaglewingz08  Thu, Mar 19, 2009 2:22:38pm

Tariq is foreign but not a respectable scholar by any measure whatsoever. I'm sure Rev. Wright is on the phone right now with Obama and Khalidi to grease the wheels for that terrorist to get a visa.
