WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Some of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners could be released into the United States while others could be put on trial in the American court system, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday.

At least this gives me fodder for argument with the majority of my immediate family that considers Obama to be a "Godsend." Beyond that, I'm appalled. And stunned. And very, very concerned.
He said the administration was looking at the possibility of putting some of the Guantanamo prisoners on trial in U.S. courts. "My guess is that some of those people would be tried in" the U.S. court system, he said.
And of course, if these Jolly Jihadi Boys decide to get up to the business of hijacking infidel airplanes to ram into infidel buildings full of infidels, they can rest assured that Obama has made certain there will be no armed pilots to stop them.
The Canadian system of government is so different from the US that the personal feelings or beliefs of the minister are of little consequence. It's the Prime Minister and the caucus that make the rules, and in the minority parliament that we have, even that is regulated by the opposition in the House.
Everyone in cabinet is an MP, including the Prime Minister and all are subject to our famed national blood-letting sport, "Question Period" where any and all topics may be attempted.
What he tried to say, as I read it, was that it didn't matter what his personal beliefs are, it's the policy of the government that matters. And he's right.
Besides, our ministers answer to a higher authority already, HRH Queen Elizabeth!
If your family is like my family, they'll welcome the arrival of the poor mistreated Gitmo detainees into America's communities, purchase their bestselling books about their horrible Gitmo experiences, and write to their alma maters suggesting that the detainees be brought on as faculty members. They'll hold bake sales to raise money for the poor detainees' relocation fees, the lawyers among them will volunteer to sue the U.S. government for tens of millions of dollars on their behalf, on a purely pro bono basis.
However, if a former detainee buys a house in their neighborhood, they'll move away immediately.
the whole point of this is ideological and symbolic...there is no rationale behind this release...it is despicable and it will cost BO and his boyz...all this bizzare shit adds up
Perhaps we should all pitch in and see if we can rent them a nice house in Mr. Holder's neighborhood.
I thought about that too. but the thing is, these angry men don't want to be housed, they want to get back in & fight for their cause. I predict they will vanish. And the next time we hear about them, some horrendous crime or act of terrorism will have been committed.
Perhaps some of the liberal Hollywood celibutards could put them up in their guest houses. Better yet, make room for them in the White House. They could join the cocktail party conga lines and Michelle could tuck them in every night.
That was actually my first idea for them: release one per day into a different New York City firehouse. And leave them plenty of time alone with the firemen to discuss their differences.
I understand that the blue areas are full of really bright and compassionate people and wouldn't that be the best place to relax and renew after a rough few years.
// I always try to be helpful.
the Navajo and Pueblo nations, and the maternally centric Hispanic culture in NM will not treat Islamists well...they are basically dead meat if they are found out down here...a place traditionally good to get lost at...jus sayin

Do you have to be involved with the FDNY to visit them?
At least they won't want to work in Florida hospice 'cause of the anti religious attitude there:
The Rev. Mirta Signorelli said that Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton told her and other chaplains on Feb. 23 to "cease and desist from using God in prayers," the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
We're going to release enemy combatants on U.S. soil?
Because they might be persecuted at home?
Is this an administration, or a really bad joke?
The Chinese at least are not terrorists or enemy combats. They were supposed to be released a long time ago, and have been living in fairly nice conditions at GITMO trying to find out where to release them. Here's their story.

Let's assume for a second that the Obama administration somehow correctly figures out with 100% accuracy which prisoners are genuine scum and which prisoners were just scapegoats in the wrong place at the wrong time (there were a lot of rumors of 'allied' Afghan soldiers pointing fingers at their local enemies during our invasion after 9/11).
I *still* don't want the scapegoats here! Not because they're "evil terrists" or some other such bull, but simply because:
a) they've been in Gitmo for years and if they were innocent people who didn't hate us before, they sure as hell do now (and if they really were innocent, who could even blame them for hating us after what happened to them?)
b) even if they're genuinely nice people *and* somehow got through Gitmo without forming a deep, abiding hatred for the US - the degree to which they'll be targeted by idiots when they get released all but ensures that they *will* form that hatred. Or get killed.
I understand the compassion that makes people want to give any falsely accused in Gitmo their freedom, but there is no version of their future which ends in the United States and ends happily ever after.
I think it's fine. Let them loose in America. ASAP. Let it happen because 9-11 wasn't enough to make a lasting impression on people. Nothing is going to change while we stay at the stasis we've existed in. So if we're not going to fight them over there, let them fight us over here. If we're lucky Americans will wake up before Iran launches its nuke.

Newsflash...Gitmo was a dream compared to the shitholes they were living in.
Are they going to be issued visas? These are people who are not welcome in their own country. Will they be provided housing? food stamps? health care? Did Holder think before he made this comment. I see a reality show where these guys live in Holder's basement trying to adapt to their new environment and dealing with the ups and downs of being an ex-Gitmo prisoner making a new life for themselves in the U.S.A.
no...his plan is to erase the concept of a War On Terror...seems pretty obvious and innocent people will die as the result...shit like this is no laughing matter
The Chinese at least are not terrorists or enemy combats. They were supposed to be released a long time ago, and have been living in fairly nice conditions at GITMO trying to find out where to release them. Here's their story.
Um, okay...
The US government says it cannot return the men to their native China because, as members of the persecuted Uighur ethnic minority, they are likely to face human rights abuses.
So from now on, anyone who is an ethnic minority in his or her country can claim to be persecuted there and therefore be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.?
An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism."
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided that since they could not make an A, they studied less. The second Test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because the harder people try to succeed the greater their reward but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try or succeed.
Perhaps some of the liberal Hollywood celibutards could put them up in their guest houses. Better yet, make room for them in the White House. They could join the cocktail party conga lines and Michelle could tuck them in every night.

Why don't they just give them some stimulus money so they can open a Chinese Restaurant, say in Washington, DC in the neighborhood of the White House or perhaps capitol hill.
I suggest the White House lawn. This is 0bama's baby, let him house them.
Definitely. They could live in the little play fort portion of Sasha and Malia's new jungle gym. If that's too drafty, I'm sure Eric Holder has a nice finished basement/in-law suite they could enjoy.
So from now on, anyone who is an ethnic minority in his or her country can claim to be persecuted there and therefore be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.?
That's what I'm afraid this might be leading to. Not unlike the UK and France were they take every other former or active terrorist nutcase in the world with open arms and then provides them with public assistance.
If they are going to release them into the U.S. they should be released into San Francisco or Berkley. They should also offer adopt a Gitmo unlawful combatant adoption program. Let's see how many takers we get for that. I'm sure that the people in the orange suits in these photos would be the first in line. Berkeley's Marine Corps Recruiting Center Controversy
I understand the compassion that makes people want to give any falsely accused in Gitmo their freedom, but there is no version of their future which ends in the United States and ends happily ever after.
I agree, and this judge said it the best:
"An undercurrent of petitioners' arguments is that they deserve to be released into this country after all they have endured at hands of the United States," Randolph wrote. "But such sentiments, however high-minded, do not represent a legal basis for upsetting settled law and overriding the prerogatives of the political branches."
He added, "We do not know whether all petitioners or any of them would qualify for entry or admission under the immigration laws. We do know that there is insufficient evidence to classify them as enemy combatants... But that hardly qualifies petitioners for admission [as legal residents of the US]. Nor does their detention at Guantanamo for many years entitle them to enter the United States."
So from now on, anyone who is an ethnic minority in his or her country can claim to be persecuted there and therefore be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.?
Give them a rowboat, a fruitcake and launch them south of Gitmo during the height of hurricane season.
The 17 members of the Uighur ethic group have been cleared for release but have nonetheless remained at Guantanamo while the United States tries to find a country willing to take them. The U.S. government has said it cannot return them to China because they would face persecution there.
"We've been trying to come up with places for them," Holder said of the Uighurs. Their lawyers have asked Obama to bring them to the United States.
Well, could Holder at least send their lawyers to China?
If they are going to release them into the U.S. they should be released into San Francisco or Berkley. They should also offer adopt a Gitmo unlawful combatant adoption program. Keep yer ideas to yerself, please. Not all of us are crazed psychos, here.

In the case of the Chinese, they've been offered housing by both Chinese immigrant groups and churches.
" Several groups have volunteered to assist in their resettlement in the US, including the 600-member Uyghur-American Association. Seventeen Uighur-American families living in the Washington, D.C., area have offered to take the former Guantánamo detainees into their own homes to help resettle them.
In addition, a Tallahassee, Fla., faith-based group and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services in Baltimore have pledged to help resettle the men in the US. "
Then maybe people will realize just exactly what kind of a moron they elected to office! And that we are in fact at war!
To many of our countrymen have turned into complete idiots. This could be the best thing in the world for us, it just might wake up these people like 9/11 didn't, so we can start to protect ourselves before we have something even worse go down.

If 9/11 didn't wake people up I don't know what else would...besides it would be GW's fault for getting everybody mad at us.
Are these people crazy? Do they believe they can be rehabilitated. Would they even accept charity from Christian charities? Once they are here how could they ever be tracked?
Thank you for helping my neighbors with their mortgage payments. You know the ones down the street who in the good times purchased their house for no money down, refinanced it several times, then bought SUV's, ATV's, RV’s, a pool, a big screen plasma TV, two Wave Runners, a boat, and a Harley.
I was wondering, since I am paying my mortgage and theirs, could you arrange for me to borrow the Harley now and then?
Signed:
"Concerned in USA"
P. S. They also need help with their credit cards, when do you want me to start making those payments?
P. P. S. I almost forgot - they didn't file their income tax return this year. Should I go ahead and file for them or will you be appointing them to cabinet posts?
It was tongue in cheek, sarcasm ok! Holy crap! Take a chill pill!
Wow I have never been call a crazed psycho if that's what you were doing.
Psycho yes, but not crazed...again sarcasm.

ot-- Dodd, after denying it, now admits he and the administration cooked up the language which afforded AIG some protection ( until the firestorm hit) to grant the bonuses.
somewhere in this bunch of fundies is a guy who is gonna saw off someones head or devastate a Pizza Hut with a pipe bomb or run around and burn down New Mexico...who is it? and why is it worth it to let him loose?...more sheer insanity

We are in fact at war. Non violent, but war nonetheless.

Given my immediate family's strong dislike of anything Bush or Republical related, I could see them buying the books that details horrific abuses sanctoned by Bushitler&Co. I could see them going to talks held at local community events and then telling me all about it afterwards. They are still 110% convinced that Bushitler stole 2 elections.
But yes, your post is very well taken. My family will superficially support the detainees because they represent the aftermath of W's policies. They won't break bread with them though.
Congress should hold a raffle. Each Rep and Senator gets an equal chance of getting a detainee. About a one in two chance. Most congressmen have big houses. Plenty of room. Seems fair to me.
The Chinese at least are not terrorists or enemy combats. They were supposed to be released a long time ago, and have been living in fairly nice conditions at GITMO trying to find out where to release them. Here's their story.
Riiight. Now let's see:
The men have been held at the detention camp for nearly seven years despite an apparent lack of evidence of involvement in terrorism. They were sold to the US military by bounty hunters
How terrible! They were sold to the US military by bounty hunters. Utterly innocent!
Of course, they were located in... um... Afghanistan.
Are these people crazy? Do they believe they can be rehabilitated. Would they even accept charity from Christian charities? Once they are here how could they ever be tracked?
Even though the Chinese were found to have been wrongly charged and detained I still have a issue. After being locked up by the US for seven years, they might just want to get even if released here. We should be able to twist the arm of a third country to take them, even if it pisses off the Chinese.
I heard today BO telling his minions (read ACORN) to go out and "knock on doors" to sell his budget to the American people. I thought, I pity the poor fucking doe-eyed dumbass that comes up on my porch. Good Christ, in America the porch is a sacred place and you coming up here to tell my why it's okay to rob me, well...
Between Vets paying for their own health care, bonuses and bailouts, the Speaker of the House calling criminals who've broken into our country 'Patriots', and terrorists being turned loose in our streets, everyone's in a swell mood.
So this is the weekend they chose to send the Obambots door to door.
This won't end well.
For decades, liberals have been releasing criminals back into society. The liberals who make these decisions never bear the consequences of their decision. Somebody else, some other poor innocent sap, pays the price when the criminal decides to do his monstrous deeds. The liberals sit around and pat themselves on the back, and marvel at how compassionate they are, and how much better they are than the evil conservatives who want to actually make the bad guys pay for their crimes. Again and again, they ignore the results of their actions. They congratulate themselves for their intentions.
I usually get this type of reaction when I am having fun posting on Huffington Post, calling out liberal hypocrisy. Actually surprisingly enough I have not been called a crazed psycho even there. And some of those people are as left wing loony as you get.
I can relate. I have an uncle who was in the Marines during the Korean War, rides around with all of his Marine stickers on his truck, etc.
He also has always been the type of person who has been selfish, never saved for his own retirement, filed bankruptcy at least twice, and finds no fault of his own for his short comings.
He voted for Obama, "because he wants whats coming to him" and he knows I ran with 2MarDiv, so the USMC on his truck don't get a pass from me, despite the numerous times he feels the need to remind me of his time in.
I let him know not so long ago, that while I was proud he went and defended another country from the scourge of communism, his dumb ass just voted it in here.
I'll admit I have not, but unlike some others, I hope he succeeds in turning the economy. If being happy when the market goes ups, and my IRA goes up is selfish, so be it. I never said word when some on here were almost gleeful when the market tanked allow me to be happy if it goes up. If BHO plan does not work. or can't work, then the market will tank again.
Of course the detainees should be released into the US... right into the White House bedroom next to dear Michele's mother. They should also be able to discuss their preferred dinner menus with the White House chefs, and be personally invited to the Easter Egg Rolling Contest on the White House lawn. Anything less might be considered torture.
A 5 year-old could see that this is a terminally bad idea.
Why can this administration not understand that? Seriously? No snarky comment here, I simply don't understand this line of thinking.
ACLU think. If you have a douchebag crazed Islamic immigrant who is holding a big BOMB and saying "I will use this to destroy the USA," the ACLU will adamantly defend him.
I'll admit I have not, but unlike some others, I hope he succeeds in turning the economy. If being happy when the market goes ups, and my IRA goes up is selfish, so be it. A lawyer for a whistleblower on the activist group ACORN is prepared to tell a House panel Thursday that the group provided liberal causes with protest-for-hire services and coerced donations from the targets of demonstrations through a mob-style "protection" racket.
ACORN called it the "muscle for the money" program, according to prepared testimony Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh plans to deliver at a hearing of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights and civil liberties.
A copy of her prepared testimony was obtained by The Washington Times.
The protest shakedowns are among a slew of accusations that Ms. Heidelbaugh intends to make against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. She also will accuse the nonprofit group of violating tax, campaign-finance and other laws by sharing a list of President Obama's maxed-out campaign donors to solicit more funds for a get-out-the-vote drive.
The accusations, which are based entirely on sworn court testimony...
Of course the detainees should be released into the US... right into the White House bedroom next to dear Michele's mother. They should also be able to discuss their preferred dinner menus with the White House chefs, and be personally invited to the Easter Egg Rolling Contest on the White House lawn. And I'm sure they and 0 will have great discussions on how bad the US is.
When the Tollybon finally admit that Comrade bin Laden has been worm meat for years and finally get around to scheduling the official funeral who will Obama send to pay respects. Biden, Hillary, or Jeremiah?
Let them live in luxury apartments in America for two years. Then send them home...
Wonder how long they would last:
Hey! I never said nothin'!
I didn't talk!
They just treated me well because they wanted too!
Really! Don't shoot!
No! Put those stones down.
Shoot! Shoot already!
When the Tollybon finally admit that Comrade bin Laden has been worm meat for years and finally get around to scheduling the official funeral who will Obama send to pay respects. Biden, Hillary, or Jeremiah?
He'll go in person, of course. No one else could pay proper respects.

I thought, I pity the poor fucking doe-eyed dumbass that comes up on my porch. Good Christ, in America the porch is a sacred place and you coming up here to tell my why it's okay to rob me, well...
Also I think it's important that there are no legal ambiguities with his case. Anything can happen with the Gitmo guys because it's really a sort of legal no man's land.
I got no problem with that.
Split them between Murtha(f***er), Reid, Pelosi, and Bill Ayers' backyards.
I understand there is a vacant house in Bill's 'hood. Would could go wrong?

Oh, I'm just so touched. Let me get a Kleenex.
Are you fucking batshit insane? The Uighurs are going to disappear into the Asian underworld and become enforcers for the drug-dealing tong gangs. They are not going to become sweet little churchified lambs.
Angry residents of a small central New Hampshire town are demanding that authorities remove a convicted child killer from their community.
More than 200 residents of Chichester packed a town selectmen's meeting Tuesday, most of them calling for Raymond Guay's removal during about two hours of emotional testimony. Many parents said their children can't sleep and are afraid to play outside.
"I do not feel safe enough to walk to the mailbox, to allow my children to walk to the mailbox," resident Darlene Phelps said.
This is what happens when a child killer is released into society. How do they think people are going to react to the terrorists next door?

I wonder how those people will feel when some work accidents occur in their basements.
I feel like we've had a transporter malfunction and we're trapped in an alternate reality America. The only thing that's missing is the goatee on The One.
The disregard for the health, safety, occupations of ordinary circularizes by this administration is unprecedented. We are in the hands of people that consider us no more than peasants that must perform as they wish or die. It is extraordinary. Obama partys every night, and spits in the face of America every day without consequence.
I feel like we've had a transporter malfunction and we're trapped in an alternate reality America. The only thing that's missing is the goatee on The One.
I can't agree with that if you're comparing Teh 0ne to the evil Spock.
The evil Spock was smart enough to see that there might be a better way...
All of the big three local broadcast networks have all run puff bits on JL in the last 24 hours, several times a day.
For starters, the gag order is about to expire, so his story will be picked up by a sympathetic news media. Then, the predictable gooey, Liberal guilt will go in to action. Finally, BHO will say that, as much as he personally hates to do it, he finds it necessary to pardon this unfortunate young man.
isn't it amazing that o is so cavalier abt. our safety?
a potus who cared abt. american citizens would not be putting terrorists first.
they should not be let loose in our communities.
I hope they are released into my general area. They'll be taken care of, that's for sure.
When the federal government fails to provide the basic protection of common defense it is designed to do, the citizens are required to use the 2nd amendment in a way to protect their families.
we are in for some very serious and dangerous times, in this wonderful country. I am amazed, every single day, at the utter absurdity of this "administration". Now this AIG crap, with "senators" running to cover their asses. Oh man, this is just plain ol' BAD. Now this ACOrN sh*t. And we have four more years of this. Four more years.
Here's a good read on why blogs like this need a different opinion to keep you in the loop.
you rarely speak for yourself...anybody here can cut and paste...you are mighty presumptuous...but provide a decent laugh factor...you are always telling us what someone else says unless you agree then you find a sentence or two of your own...take a chance you sissy

Read and downdinged. That rant moves avanti into moonbat territory: assigning evil motives to those who disagree with him. And in honor of the strawman he built:
Did you all hear about Rush today talking about the 0's teleprompter? Rush's has been saying the 0's teleprompter told him to say...Today he started calling it TOTUS.
I have to say that I am a bit surprised that the donks are managing to do every stupid f'ing thing that lizards feared they would do if they got control of the executive and legislative branches.
Hell guys why not try that court packing shit again? Then we can have things screwed up for centuries.
I feel like we've had a transporter malfunction and we're trapped in an alternate reality America. The only thing that's missing is the goatee on The One.
I don't see anything controversial in your post there. I have said I hope BHO is a success as President. I don't see any point in rooting for BHO to fail. Thats about the stupidest thing to root for that I can imagine.
Of course since these poor souls can't get a "fair unbiased" trial, at least outside of San Fransisco or mebbe Columbia University or some similar places etc they'll have to be set free...
Fact is, no one else will take them. The Euroweenies talk a great game in the abstract, but even they realize what these ... detainees ... are capable of. Yeah, sure, close Gitmo and release them. In my back yard? Uh, no way.
Did you all hear about Rush today talking about the 0's teleprompter? Rush's has been saying the 0's teleprompter told him to say...Today he started calling it TOTUS.
Goddamn idiots, morons, nutbars and psychopaths are in the gov't. I hope to hell some released terrorist runs amok and deleted deleted deleted on some of these liberal asshats.

I'm going to bed guys. I know it's not all about me, but Liam Neeson is one of my favorite actors, kind of bummed for him; finishing my last couple smokes in the morning (just not going to pay all the tax); some friends of mine were fighting a few flights down from here; and this...
Just kind of bummed.
The sun'll come out, tomorrow;
Betcher bottom dollar that tomorrow;
Their'll be sun...
Was skimming through some background on this. These detainees got the best lawyers money can buy which leads me to wonder who was paying for their defense. Many of them acquired AK-47 training. Some are seeking 30,000 dollars in addition to asylum in the USA. Other countries they can go is Canada or Germany.
Did you all hear about Rush today talking about the 0's teleprompter? Rush's has been saying the 0's teleprompter told him to say...Today he started calling it TOTUS.
i heard it driving in today. i almost drove off the road laughing.
o must just be livid w/ rush. the ridicule was supremely entertaining.
rush challenged the 'promptor' to a debate.
Time to take up the welcome mat. At least Nodrog introduced a certain level of amusement. This one not so much. Avanti's passive aggressive stoogism is just plain boring.
I don't see anything controversial in your post there. I have said I hope BHO is a success as President. I don't see any point in rooting for BHO to fail. Thats about the stupidest thing to root for that I can imagine.
0bama seems hellbent - along with his cronies - on bringing this country to its knees and you think rooting for this to fail is a stupid thing?
Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room,
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining
Is a measure of how you will be missed.
You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop and you'll find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before.
The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man.
You have my best wishes for complete success with the stop-smoking plan, FBV. Liam Neeson is one of my favorites too and I grieve for his loss. So senseless and tragic.
Don't overestimate your importance here. This blog doesn't "need" any one of us.
I said it needs a difference of opinion, I am certainly not the only one that has one. Without a difference of opinion, any blog, right or left will just be isolated from reality as pointed out in my link from Hot Air.
Goddamn idiots, morons, nutbars and psychopaths are in the gov't. I hope to hell some released terrorist runs amok and deleted deleted deleted on some of these liberal asshats.
What's the difference between a mugger and a congresscritter?
The Secret Service doesn't visit you if you *** a mugger.
From: The Teleprompter To: Barack Obama Subject: My Resignation letter
Dear Mr. President I must respectful resign my position as the brains of this outfit.
I can't take the pressure anymore...
I know stuff Barry..
I need a private jet, 2 million in unmarked bills and safe passage to Paris..
Don't mess with me Barry...
Sincerely
The Teleprompter
Don't release them near my family. I might take measures.
Can anyone think these guys will possibly be safe? Are we putting them all in witness protection or what? They're gonna get their asses killed. Maybe if we send their asses home, they'll also get killed, but I'm not sure I want their asses to get killed in Ohio.
The Rev. Mirta Signorelli said that Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton told her and other chaplains on Feb. 23 to "cease and desist from using God in prayers," the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
How is it even possible to be a chaplain if you don't invoke God's, or any god's, name?

What he posted was NOT passive-aggressive. He flat-out LIED about Lizards. He lied. He lied. He lied.
So from now on, anyone who is an ethnic minority in his or her country can claim to be persecuted there and therefore be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.?
In all fairness, this is China we're talking about here.

I still have a bunch of really neat weapons. I have the training and ability to use them effectively and efficiently. I am not afraid to risk my life for my fellow citizens. I almost never leave my home without the ability to destroy evil from a distance.

Gah. Business travel is so glamorous. I spent three hours at Dulles today waiting on a flight. The first flight was delayed an hour; we boarded and the pilot announced we had a nail in the tire, thirty minutes later they figured out they had no spare tires so they pulled us off the plane. I made it to Atlanta, three hours late, and had a wonderful dinner on my boss' s expense account. Then I see the Free John Lindh website.
Gah. It's bedtime.
You can't jump a jet plane, like you can a freight train...

Don't forget Obama was at Columbia at the same time as those two, and won't release his Columbia transcript.
At this point it might be fair to say we don't even need to see those transcripts. Obama's actions and administration such represented by Holder and others makes things pretty clear were Obama is coming from.
What the fuck is that horseshit? I want all socialist/commie policies to fail. I don't give a good goddamn who puts them forward.
My take on the whole 'I want him to fail' thing is pretty simple.
I don't believe, and history tends to back me up here, that his proposed policies will do nothing but damage to the USA now and well into the future.
I want him to fail to get these changes enacted because they Are Not Going To Be Good For The Country!

OT - From DEBKA, I'm not sure what to make of it, but frightening if true:
Saudis create anti-Israel Palestinian "militia" in Gaza to combat Hamas
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report
March 18, 2009, 9:25 AM (GMT+02:00)
New pro-Saudi terror militia in South Lebanon
DEBKAfile's military sources disclose that Saudi intelligence services are deep in recruitment for a new radical Islamist terrorist militia in the southern Gaza Strip towns of Deir al Balakh, Khan Younes and Rafah, with Egyptian blessing. More than 1,000 Palestinians have joined up in two weeks, poached from the extreme Hamas fringes and the Salafi sects.
Recruiters promise greater militancy against Israel than Hamas and Jihad Islami combined.
The new Gaza group is intended to complement the pro-Saudi organization established in southern Lebanon in January, part of a new Riyadh project to establish a chain of Islamist, Taliban-style fighting cadres under Saudi control for combating the pro-Iranian and al Qaeda terrorist organizations strung across the Middle East.
The Saudis are pumping into southern Gaza weapons, cash and dozens of military instructors for a strong infrastructure. This flow could not have taken place through Egyptian territory without Cairo's knowledge and approval.
DEBKAfile's Middle East sources disclose the hand behind this grand design is the Saudi intelligence chief Prince Muqrin Abdul Aziz. He has used Hamas leaders' absence and their preoccupation in Cairo with prisoner swap negotiations with Israel and Palestinian unity talks to lay the groundwork for the pro-Saudi Palestinian terror group in the Gaza Strip.
The organization up and running in S. Lebanon, dubbed the Arab Islamic Resistance Organization, soon challenged pro-Iranian Hizballah's domination of South Lebanon by becoming the first non-Hizballah element ever to stage a comprehensive "war game" close to the Israeli border without Iran's proxy interfering.
Exercises included chemical warfare drill, a sign that the Saudis are preparing to arm their new terrorist network with sophisticated means of war.
I know, I don't want them released at all, and if they were to be released, not in the US. But if they have to be released in the US where do they go? NIMBY right?
At this point it might be fair to say we don't even need to see those transcripts. Obama's actions and administration such represented by Holder and others makes things pretty clear were Obama is coming from.

They can all be in my backyard. Literally. I need five minutes to prepare.
When the Tollybon finally admit that Comrade bin Laden has been worm meat for years and finally get around to scheduling the official funeral who will Obama send to pay respects. Biden, Hillary, or Jeremiah?
1. Are they related to Cinnabon?
2. They won't. Bin Laden is about to turn into the Arab world's version of King Arthur.

"But I think liberal blog sites ought to provide the same service–a dissenting blogger–so the preachers to the choir there can experience dissent rather than the back patting, ass kissing they seem to revel in."
Is there any point at which these idiots in the Obama Admin, including the Commie-in-Chief hisdamnself, can be prosecuted for endangering American lives?
A lot folks here knew exactly where he was coming from when Charles posted the audio of the interview on Chicago radio.

Charles,
How can I change from azcon to Crazed Psycho?

Hi--this may have been cleared up and I missed it, but I THINK rawmuse meant not all of us in the Bay Area were crazed psychos, and hence, we didn't want the Gitmo people.
Not that you were a crazed psycho.
Now ending this shalom bayit public service transmission.

Rush is highly energized these days and it's a pleasure to listen to him.
Like red meat to the lion.
you're right, rush is on fire,
o has really 'misunderestimated' him as an opponent who could be easily taken out.
rush is not going to be trifled w/ by a blowhard gas bag like o.
So The One has been POTUS for 8 weeks and his teleprompter is preempting primetime for the third time (or have I lost count). I know he wants to be voted American Idol, but this isn't the way to do it.
Jack Bauer where are you? Come save America please...

Sarah Jane Olson (former 70’s SLA terrorist) was paroled back to Minnesota today after completing 7-years of a 14-year term in a California prison for a deadly bank robbery and planting pipe bombs under LA squad cars. Since we already have her back we may as well take some of the Gitmo boys. There would be one condition though. They’d have to live next to old Sarah. Got to keep all the bombers/terrorists in one place you know. Hopefully they’d have a ‘work accident’ and take each other out.

Fine. If you think we need to be kept honest lest we descend into right wing echo chamber madness then more power to you.
If you paid attention you would find that the reason that this blog is NOT like the type of blog mentioned in your link is because of the class and civility of the host. Nutjobs are shown the door and rational posters thrive. It was this way before you or I got here.

Ah. I see. It is my "hellbent" qualifier, then, that you identify as the strawman?
0bama seems hellbent - along with his cronies - on bringing this country to its knees and you think rooting for this to fail is a stupid thing?
I posted earlier in the day something to this effect.
I want the President and this country to succeed. Success means security and prosperity. That's what I want and pray for.
Obama's agenda is contrary to those goals, both success of the President and the Country. Obama's agenda if he were to be succeed in those goals would mean the President and the Nations security and prosperity are at grave risk.
Obama the person has an agenda. That agenda is not compatible with the Office of President and the sworn duty of the occupant of the office.
You have to separate the personal agenda of Obama the man, and the Duties of the Office of the President.
"But I think liberal blog sites ought to provide the same service–a dissenting blogger–so the preachers to the choir there can experience dissent rather than the back patting, ass kissing they seem to revel in."
So you stand behind your assertion that "some on here were almost gleeful when the market tanked"? Or were you just making shit up to, you know, stir up the choir? Make 'em sing as it were?
You are not a dissenting blogger. You are a lying asshole with an unjustifiably large ego. Did I mention that you are not amusing?

Recognizing the need for an award for troops assigned to headquarters units during combat operations, the Army today announced the approval of the Combat Briefing Badge, or CBB. "People don't realize that being in a major headquarters can be just as stressful as going on patrols or convoys," said MAJ John Remf. "When you're briefing that many General Officers, your career can end in a heartbeat. And it can happen to anyone at any time, not just combat arms soldiers." DOD statistics note that CSS personnel are more likely to suffer career-ending incidents in rear areas than Combat Arms Soldiers. "This just reflects that reality," said Pentagon spokesman LTC Roger Pogue.
The award ranks in precedence below the CIB and CAB, but above the EIB and PowerPoint Ranger tab.
The criteria for the award is still under discussion, but preliminary guidance authorizes the award for 30 days of continuous briefings of officers at least two grades higher than the briefer without incident while serving in a theater of operations in which the awardee is eligible for hostile fire and hazardous duty pay.

Sometimes it takes a great series of tragedies for people to wake up.
I'm not holding my breath.
I am worried another attack will dust off the 9-11 fatigue that the media got. . .so much so they stoped showing footage altogether to ease the suffering. . .I am worried about a "been there dine that attitude" and with this asshat in office? Feh!

I have an idea: Take them to New York and tell them that, if they can make it off Manhattan Island, they're free.
And be sure to advertise the time and place on NYC TV for three days beforehand.
You mean like this?
--
“Mister bin Laden, you are free to go. This court is adjourned.” He slammed down the gavel for the last time. It was followed by a silence felt around the world. Osama bin Laden rose from his chair a free man. He slowly walked out of the courtroom…only to find the corridors outside totally deserted and tranquil.
He could not believe what he was seeing. His pace quickened as he approached the main security checkpoints used for inspecting visitors and workers entering the courthouse. No one manned the posts and the doors to freedom and fresh air were just ahead.
He reached them and opened a door. Outside he looked up, saw the sunny skies, and found a lone car waiting at the base of the fifty steps to take him to Queens and John F. Kennedy International Airport. Again he found total desertion and tranquility.
He shouted at the top of his lungs in Arabic, “God is Great!” which echoed among the tall buildings of the city; he commenced running down the steps toward the waiting limousine. On the twenty-sixth step, a noise emanated from the streets so quickly that by the time he reached the thirty-seventh step, it was deafening. Osama witnessed a massive throng of New Yorkers bypassing the waiting limo and surrounding him.
It was at this moment that Osama bin Laden knew the finality of his life was at hand. He realized the softhearted mercy of the complacent American people was a fallacy. His eyes widened with terror as the crowd surged forward and engulfed him in their midst.
And Osama bin Laden got it in THE END!

You forgot the Teleprompter Jockey Medal. That medal was just created by Barack Obama (he awarded the first one to himself).

Of course, the ID threads, but I'm talking about the more political topics. I have to believe that most blogs, be they left or right have regular posters that might be bit more extreme then the more moderate lurkers, and tend to try and shut down even civil discussion they disagree with.
At least this forum does not give the devil's advocates the boot.

My eldest son detests Fobbits...
Every nation on earth must be laughing with glee over how obama and the dems are bringing us down just the way they all have wanted. Pompous bourgeois just like in the days of Louis 15 or is it 16? All that's missing are the slik stockings, frilly pantaloons and lipstick. Oh wait! Barney Frank comes to mind

Well said, JCM, but I believe we err when we equate our meaning of "success" with (what I infer to be) 0bama's meaning of success.
I do not believe for one second 0bama believes in the security and prosperity of Americans, whatever class or race or creed. I believe his version of success is triumph over the population, punishment to the self-made and successful, the permanent weakening, dependency, and victimhod of the "welfare population", and personal power.

They'll be releasing into the US? Let's roll out the red carpet, throw flowers, hire the polka music band, buy loads of confetti and get a large group of lazy, hippie leftists to greet them!
OK thanks, I guess that makes sense, I was a bit defensive. I know there are a few sane people in the bay area and I would not wish the Gitmo unlawful enemy combatants be released on them or anyone one the US for that matter. Thanks and

Hate to throw this out to the lizards and not get to discuss it much but:
An unnamed former highly-placed U.S.intelligence official has broken silence and says that America may soon be abandoning Israel in favor of the Arabs. “This is just the beginning”, he said, "Israel could be about to lose the support of the United States."
Mr. Holder: Be sure to release them within the jurisdiction of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In this manner, the ex-detainees will gain the best opportunity of justice and restitution for their years of suffering and illegal detention.
Thanks. I was turned down for part time seasonal work at a nursery today for not having retail nursery experience. My graduate degree mocks me.
That sucks. My neighbor would kill for some good seasonal help at his place. He's also in need of a manager ... the last guy "didn't quite work out", LOL.
Nah. They look ok from 15-20 feet away but they play like shit. Worthless. I've come close to feeding them through the bandsaw a few times but I can't quite bring myself to do it.

How on earth did that vile little troll even get elected or taken seriously in the first place is a giant mystery. How any of them can stand to be in the same room with him i don't understand. These people in the dem party need to be dragged into the street, apple stuffed in their pie holes, tarred and feathered and put in one of those wooden slabs in the middle of the town square.

For some reason I will personally feel better if I know you are out there fishing, KT.
They'll be releasing into the US? Let's roll out the red carpet, throw flowers, hire the polka music band, buy loads of confetti and get a large group of lazy, hippie leftists to greet them!
I'm sure Bill Ayers, Cindy Sheehan and Ward Churchill have some extra space to let them crash for a while.
Absolutely. What's scary is that he's a) just getting started and b) not on full throttle yet. Things could get rather ugly within the next 4 years.
the people who will be able to stop him and shoot down the worst of the proposals are the sane democrats in congress. Pelosi and Reid will try to intimidate them, but it won't work all of the time.
So, what you are saying, is America will never wake up?
It seems that Stalen's dopey worshipers in academia, news media, entertainment and government have succeeded in dumbing down the masses, perhaps to the point of no return. Have you tried to reason with a liberal lately?
I say it's a good time to ride the helicopter, hunt and shoot down wolves Gitmo prisoners from the air. We'll just say "wolves" to the Alaska Park Rangers if we have to explain what we just did.
I'm not quite sure Barney would view our suggestion as punishment.

How are ya tonight Dusty?
Doing well here, Tigers discovered the top og the kitchen cabinets a swell sleeping spot, ans it's quite...:0)How's things woth you and your mom?

Several years ago I was part of a group that met with him in his Boston area office. I didn't really know much about him - he wasn't my elected official and I wasn't particularly politically aware at the time.
Within a minute and a half of meeting him I thought to myself, "this is the most colossal ass*** I've ever met".
I have no idea why anyone would ever vote for him for anything.
At least this forum does not give the devil's advocates the boot.
Actually, I once saw Charles whack someone for being an asshole, very rare, only saw this once...but it happened. Just wanted to point that out.
Devil's advocate my ass. You are here to gratify yourself and I say fine. Go right ahead but don't expect many of us to watch as it is not very seemly you know.

There seems to be a couple of rumblings from the Blue Dogs but I wonder how effective they can be. I have a tendency to think that it might also be a "good cop/bad cop" routine. Whatever opposition we can muster should be appreciated in the long run but the momentum and numbers are in the oppositions favor. If the poll numbers are correct it may be as close as 2010 where we can see a return to democracy with a more balanced congress. As it stands now it is basically Leftist-Democrat Party regime.
OK thanks, I guess that makes sense, I was a bit defensive. I know there are a few sane people in the bay area and I would not wish the Gitmo unlawful enemy combatants be released on them or anyone one the US for that matter. Thanks and
shalom
No problem, it just seemed to have hurt your feelings. Which I do not think was at all intended.

The old Navy Chief finally retired and got that chicken ranch he always wanted. He took
with him his life-long pet parrot.
First morning at 0430, the parrot squawked loudly and said, “Reveille, Reveille. Up all
hands. Heave out and trice up. The smoking lamp is lighted, now Reveille.”
The old chief told the parrot, “We are no longer in the Navy. Go back to sleep.”
The next morning, the parrot did the same thing. Chief told the parrot, “If you keep this up, I'll put you out in the chicken pen.”
Again the parrot did it, and true to his word, the Chief put the parrot in the chicken pen.
About 0630 the next morning, the Chief was awakened by one heck of a ruckus in the chicken pen. He went out to see what was the matter. The parrot had about 40 white chickens at attention in formation, and on the ground laid 3 bruised and beaten brown chickens. The parrot was saying, “By God, when I say fall out in dress whites, I don't
mean Khakis!”

65 House Democrats, led by a Democrat, sent a letter to Eric Holder today, telling him that any "assualt weapons ban" is dead in the water.
Refrain:
Heavenly sunlight! Heavenly sunlight!
Flooding my soul with glory divine;
Hallelujah! I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises, Jesus is mine!
Shadows around me, shadows above me
Never conceal my Savior and Guide;
He is the light, in Him is no darkness,
Ever I’m walking close to His side.
In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above;
Singing His praises, gladly I’m walking,
Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love.
I am in the market for one for a student of mine. I went to Ifshin violins in El Cerrito the other day, they had some killer ones, all about five bills or better.
Refrain:
Heavenly sunlight! Heavenly sunlight!
Flooding my soul with glory divine;
Hallelujah! I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises, Jesus is mine!
Shadows around me, shadows above me
Never conceal my Savior and Guide;
He is the light, in Him is no darkness,
Ever I’m walking close to His side.
In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above;
Singing His praises, gladly I’m walking,

You have skills.
Work something out with a pawn shop. Trade a repair for an item...maybe a broken item that you can fix...
And please make sure that guitar is really worth more apart than together... You are competing with massed produced merchandise. You know the carriage trade. Make sure you know the street values too.
If inflation gets bad, goods are worth more than money.
When other tradesmen go broke, they may hock their materials, or worse, tools. Don't be that person. Be the opportunist who sees the unknown and realizes the value...and picks it up for pennies on the dollar.
re: #463 funky chicken
Hi funky chicken - you're right about that; my Congresswoman Sue Myrick (R) replied to my e-mail about vets having to pay for their own health care by saying that she is hard core against it, as, she believes are all House Republicans, but the real surprise was her statement that there is "NO support for this in the House - even the Democrats are afraid of what just this proposal will do to them come election time.[emphasis realwest]
I see what you are saying, I think. The way I've worked it out in my mind is that I want Obama to want what is right for the country. If he wants what is right for the country, then I want him to succeed.
However the truth is that Obama wants what is harmful for the country. Because he wants what is Harmful to the country, I wish to see him fail, but only in such a way that his failure produces what is good for the country.
In either case, it is not as simple as wishing him to succeed or fail. What I'm afraid we are going to get is an epic fail from Obama that is itself harmful to the country as well as Obama's ambitions. This seems to be the dominant probablity. The only thing worse would be for Obama to mean ill towards the Country (the jury is still very much out on that) and be successful in his intent.
I don't rule that posibillity out.
DING!
I think of both Bush's and Reagan. All three understood that they were men serving in an office. That the Office was much, much more than them as individuals. I don't believe Obama understands that, his arrogance and narcissism makes him believe he is the totality of the Presidency, not a temporary custodian of the Office and Country.
Sadly, you ain't joking sister. Let's not ask them.
Now that I think of it doesn't Charlie Rangell have several rent controlled apartments in NYC he could let them live there. The Obama's Chicago house is vacant most of the time too, and I'm sure the Kennedy clan have a few spare homes around the globe.

They know who elected them to office, they seem to listen.
Chris Dodd has about 54% of his constituants saying they absolutely won't vote for him in 2010, with a Republican challenger moving up quickly.
As long as the Rep. isn't like Spector or Snow, we'll be in better shape.
54% is a good number. Chris Dodd has to go: if not to prison at least away from congress. I mentioned last week that it's looking good for Republican Christie against incumbent governor of New Jersey Corzine.
That is wonderful news. Just that fact makes things marginaly better. It reduces the likelyhood of us fighting a second round of Civil War in the near-term future.
The NRA website has several pieces of very good news today.
When we arrived in Qatar after 11 months of a combat deployment in the mean streets of Mosul, the USAF in charge of transitioning soldiers forced us to turn in our weapons. Because it was completely safe in Qatar. We didn't like it (after spending nearly a year, awake or asleep, in constant physical contact with it), we understood.
There was no danger in Qatar. We were completely safe where we were.
That being said, everyone that was stationed there (and only there) still got combat pay and a combat patch. There were people who weren't even issued a weapon when deployed who got combat pay. Unbelievable.

Corzine has been a joke.
We'll see how much corruption that over $ 5 billion of scamulous money can buy for ACORN in those races.

Hey Gus 802 - please see my #510 - not contradicting your idea of a misdirection ploy, but worth hearing.
OK, I'm a cynic so perhaps I overstated my case. The reality for any politician is that if they attach themselves to unpopular policy they don't win elections. It will be good if this build momentum over the course of Obama's term.
So why isn't Franks up on charges for pimping Fannie Mae 3 months before it swirled down the toilet?
You would have to ask a lawyer. I imagine something like that would require a Grand Jury at first and investigations. All of which would be within a highly political atmosphere.
Short answer: I'm not a player, only a luthier but I'd probably stay away from the carbon fiber stuff. It's overpriced from what it is. Seriously, it's no more than $20 worth of materials. I would guess that it might be better to struggle with a quirky wood bow than a carbon fiber one. The feel and reaction is completely different. Ask other players for a more informed opinion.
/I'm out.
It wouldn't surprise me if he wants the former detainees to be the first members of his "Civilian Police Force" he promised he was going to create. They are already trained to obey THEIR KING. Obama would be their NEW KING.

MMMkay.
" In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price."

LGF is not and has never been junior high school, ya know?
OUCH!
Murtha, Schumer, Waxman, McDermott, damn I need two more.
We've got: Pelosi, Murtha, Emannuel, Spector, Waxman, and McDermott. We need three more. Kennedy could be number seven. Since Soros is Sauron, Obama must be the Lord of the Nazgul. That leaves us needing to find on more Wraith.
Snowe voted for that absurd 'stimulus' package and McCain (I'm in Arizona) did a fine job of pissing away any respect I had for him during the 'comprehensive (it's NOT amnesty) immigration reform'.
He might still be able to redeem himself (to me, for what ever it is worth) if he can continue to stand up to the insanity flowing out of the White House.
Yes, I voted for him to be POTUS.
No, I don't like his 'bi-partisan maverick-ism'.

Susan Collins, also of Maine. She tends to talk in a voice so syrupy-sweet it makes me feel like my blood is crystallizing.

The Nation was founded on a few simple principals.
Life
Liberty
Pursuit of Happiness
That Rights are intrinsic to the individual.
The left today may give lip service to those words but their actions place restrictions on individual rights.
What proposal in the last 2 years of a Democratic controlled congress, and the last 2 months of a Democrat President have expanded, or further strengthened individual rights?
That arrogance is part of what makes him dangerous. You can picture him like Mussolini was shortly before his death, a captive of his putative ally, his nation in ruins, and him still strutting around like the cock of the fucking walk. He didn't make any mistakes. He doesn't make mistakes.
And so forth and so on, until in his mind it is just that the nation die, because it has failed him so (that last is more Hitlerian in flavor).
It is far worse than simply a little man in a big office. It's a little man with delusions of grandeur in the most important office in the world, arguably the most important office in the world ever. We can try to hope that he will grow in office, but his core dysfunction, narcissism, would tend to make that unlikely.
I have very little hope that much good is going to come of the Obama Administration. I really see the next four years emphasizing the "conserve" part of conservatism, as we try and prevent the worst excesses from bringing it all down.

Nor do I. There is no question we started down that road with TARP 1, the question is, once the economy recovers, will we back away ?

Can't have the pilot hijacking the plane now can we...
Quietly trying to strangle that option of defense, aren't they> After all, it's common knowledge that commercial pilots are well known for irresponsibility and bad behavior.
I can think of, umm, 2 incidents in the last 30 years that involved aircrews behaving badly.

Thanks. RKBA is the absolute front line defense that we have against tyranny. It is even more the canary in the coal mine than Israel in that I could see a president/Congress being more willing to overstep on gun control than really sitting back and letting Israel getting destroyed. Clinton is, of course, the best example of it.

Uh, none?
And I believe we can take it back a decade or two.
the federal government has usurped so much power that it would be an abomination to the good honest gentlemen that wrote the Constitution.
re: #545 Gus 802 Right now I'm just looking for some big cracks in the Dem facade - and a weakening of the MSM support for them would be a big start. Can't remember what it was - think it had something to do with Geithner ("I'm putting my resume together as we speak") knowing that AIG had planned on those bonuses a LONG time ago, but ABC NEWS reported on it. Just a little chink in the armor, but a few more and maybe we'll get our chance to state our case: smaller -not bigger - government; government that understands that it's FIRST and only real reason for being is to protect it's citizens from danger; that everyone has some personal value, but you can't GIVE someone self-esteem and if you're not gonna be honest with us, we aren't going to support you. For starters.
Dodd: Administration sought bonus limit revision
By JIM KUHNHENN, AP
WASHINGTON — For a while, the disappearance of an executive bonus restriction from last month's economic stimulus looked like sleight of hand worthy of a Las Vegas stage. No one could explain how the provision faded into thin air. On Wednesday, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., acknowledged that his staff agreed to dilute the executive pay provision that would have applied retroactively to recipients of federal aid.
Dodd, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, told CNN that the request came from Obama administration officials whom he did not identify.
The provision was the subject of new attention this week because, had it survived, it would have prevented the American International Group Inc. from granting $165 million in bonuses to employees of its financial products division.
While the House and Senate reconciled their different stimulus bills last month, the Treasury Department expressed concern with a Senate restriction on bonuses, noting that if it applied to existing compensation contracts it could face a legal challenge.
"The alternative was losing, in my view, the entire section on executive excessive compensation," Dodd told CNN. "Given a choice, this is not an uncommon occurrence here, I agreed to a modification in the legislation, reluctantly."

I believe in the America you fought to defend, avanti. Not the bullshit I see coming out of every branch of this administration. Our future is not on a teleprompter, Biden is a buffoon, Reid's a dip shit, Holder is divisive and Pelosi is bat shit crazy.
re: #552 Dark_Falcon Hey my friend, I agree with you about McCain, but not about Snowe (RINO, Maine) and you can add Collins (RINO, Maine) to that list too.
The only recent thing I remember is the VA/insurance debacle that was being considered by the White House. John Stewart actually made mention of it but did not mention the White House. There was something else to as you mentioned but I can't remember.
Uh, none?
And I believe we can take it back a decade or two.

You got it, Real. Street smart is what he is and it has served him well. I only wish I knew how this is going to end up. I haven't imagined a scenario yet that ends well and both Israel and the US are sure to suffer as I see it.
re: #571 Van Helsing
Specter, Snowe and Collins were the three who voted for it; McCain was against it and spoke out publically against it. He's been much less "reach across the aisle" and RINO since the Presidential Election.

Lets see, the only human rights thing that comes to mine is outlawing torture and killing some of GW over reaching decisions like stem cell research, and the Mexico city agreement in the first 50 days.
I like the expansion of children health care, the increases in the defense and VA budgets too, but it's early. As to the Democrats in Congress, they are part of the problem for BHO.

Human rights are collective. Socialist in nature.
Individual right are just that, individual.
When government is restrained from infringing on individual rights, there is no need for human rights.

Like I said, realwest, I live in Arizona. His take on so many local problems here in border state flyover country, well, he could have been named Kennedy for all the difference in policy.
I also said he can still earn back our respect if he'll hold the course against this insane spending policy coming out of the White House.
Remember - the prez only proposes and approves, congress is supposed to come up with the details,
Not slamming you, I just have a more local view of the senator.
That's the way they've been playing it since Slick Willy go his willy played with. Those law thingies, they only apply to the little people. Sexual harassment, I was just dusting her assault you say? Fear not, only sex was involved in the assault. So he smacked the bitch around a little, it wasn't really rape. OK, yeah, it was really rape, but he's a popular President. He is above the law.
And now we have God Emperor Obama. At least we don't have to wory about Obama banging his daughter's playmates that she brings home to the White House. That's something.
Sorry thing is that if that was his priorities we would be better off.
With enough experience at this, they have to be deemed to know the real-world consequences. Their intentions are that those consequences should follow. They want to make us pay for wanting to live.
Well this has been a craptastic week and it's only Wednesday.
We're practically held hostage while our elected officials do their utmost to destroy the greatest form of government ever seen on the face of this planet - it's like watching a bunch of spoiled brat children gleefully wreck a priceless present.
Every time the news comes on the radio I think "what fresh hell is this?"

There are some good things in the world. We just have to keep Mr. Delusions of Adequacy from wrecking them.
Having Barney Frank serve as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee is akin to Jeffrey Dalmer serving as chairman of Vegetarians of America.
You like the idea of expanding "childrens" health care?" You think it's right to have smoker foot the bill for some, for example, single mother that makes 80,000 dollars a year and using that "free" health care for some 24 year old "child" living with her at home? I have to help foot that bill?

Don't bother, I know about the stem cell ban in the one bill and it's the reason for the new bill to override it. BHO lifts the ban, the Dems make a trade with the GOP to get a bill passed with the anti stem cell ban rider attached, knowing a new bill is coming to make it moot. Aren't politicians fun ?
That's only 10-15 minutes old.
Yeah it will be one to watch.
It seems like the DPRK is really trying to get our attention these days and we don't really give a damn. Oh no, they refused our free food a few days ago! Horrors! Launch your stupid 40 year old technology missile already and be done with it, we've got some more pressing issues here right now.
I once sat in for my Platoon Sergeant on a briefing where one of these PowerPoint geniuses used the word 'synergy' about 40 times. At the end, he asked, "Are there any questions?" I was feeling particularly evil that day - I asked, "Yeah, what does synergy mean?" I knew what it meant - he didn't. Didn't stop him from using the damn word, though.
People who believe the constitution is "a living document" do not love this country.
People who believe that every facet of American life must be regulated by Washington do not trust or respect their fellow citizen, and therefore do not love this country.
People who instinctively trust the words of captured enemy fighters over the word of their own nation's soldier do not love this country.
People who believe there is nothing exceptional about the culture and character of America, and that anybody, from anywhere, can move here, keep their original belief systems (the systems that created the third-world hellhole they are fleeing), and that new fragmented society will somehow "improve" America do not love their country.
That's only 10-15 minutes old.
Yeah it will be one to watch.
The story was worth a read. Sadly, I forgot where I was and click on a couple of other stories. Not too bad, but now I need to clean the BBC Moonbat guano off my feet.

Looks like the Messiah was doing a little nest feathering before he took office. No wonder he does not seem to worried about the economy, he's already got his.

I have a Wolf, a Bear, and a Boy Scout. I also have one that hasn't started yet, but is raring to go.
That is great. My middle made it to Star Scout...never did the Eagle...too bad. His little brother is really into camping and outdoorsy stuff. We'll see if he makes it as far as his brother did.
re: #655 Van Helsing
I appreciate that you do, Van Helsing - just reporting the facts as I know 'em to have been over TARP - McCain did speak out against it and did vote against it.
But I believe in the American Form of government and am more than happy to let Arizonans make the call.

We're hoping ours take off. We have a long family tradition. My grandfather was an Eagle back in the 30's, and they don't go much farther back than that.

NorKo is scary.
It's not really predictable. There are internal power struggles we can only guess at. Kim is liable to do anything to retain power. If it collapses we have 25 million people with no food, and no means to support or govern themselves.
You like the idea of expanding "childrens" health care?" You think it's right to have smoker foot the bill for some, for example, single mother that makes 80,000 dollars a year and using that "free" health care for some 24 year old "child" living with her at home? I have to help foot that bill?
There are a real limited number of single mothers making 80,000 a year. Is the 24-y'old going to be covered? At what point do the current programs cut off dependents? Kaiser cut me loose at 23, but that was coverage my mother paid for through her employer.
Okay, from what I have read and heard regarding the stem cell ban. GWB ban was on new lines of stem cells being created. This forced government research scientests to look for other alternatives. Hence the expanding research into Adult stem cells. So it may look anti-science at first, but it has benefited everyone immensely.

Problem being that if they can lob a couple of tons of ANYTHING into orbit and bring it down without it all ablating (not that hard) it's going to leave a mark where it hits.

Yes, but there are a limited number of people like me in this country too. It can be a single father, mother, couple, etc, making that amount and having the same aged dependent in their household. I don't like the idea of using "special taxes" to help foot the bill for other peoples' problems. Otherwise, I think they should create a "special tax" for "my own personal needs" to be taken care of by the Nanny State.

Hi there KT - I know what you mean, but I think we have at least a tentative victory on Vet's paying for their own healthcare - hell after we discussed it out here, Fox was all over it, Rush was all over it, Charles put up a thread about it and at least one congresscritter wrote to me to say that idea of Vets paying for their own health care is DEAD in the House.
And I've written to and received replies from her and Sen. Burr (R-NC) several times and they've been pretty straight shooters with me - Obama carried NC by a slim Margin, but Myrick won re-election by a large number.

That's part of the problem with Mr. Narcissism. I think he really truly could not understand that massive unpopularity of what he was thinking. It wasn't his point of view, therefore he could not conceive of it.

People who believe the constitution is "a living document" do not love this country.
People who believe that people with different political views don't love their country are flat wrong. It's a silly concept on it's face, neither the right, nor the left has a lock on love of country.
You ever see those photographs of Hitler before one of his first infamous speeches? It was done by a professional photographer and he got all "dressed up" for the photo shoot.
He won't even comprehend what he's done wrong, and thus not have a clue about how to fix it. Scary, scary dude we have elected as President...
The Europeans did not do us a favor by reinforcing his complex with that ridiculous love-in. I doubt he understood that that wasn't about him; it was about Bush, and Europe's need to trash us.
Well, I gotta go to bed so I can get up in the morning and go to work so I can afford to pay those shitheads to ruin my life.
Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more...
I will NEVER understand why anyone has a sockpuppet. Never. I mean, what's the damn point of it all?
Y'all say what you want to say out here and folks either agree or not; throwing out ideas by a sockpuppet or using sock's to upding yourself is just plain stupid.
LGF is not and has never been junior high school, ya know?
I could never do a sockpuppet. I have all I can handle keeping track of one nick.
Are you saying you believe the Constution is a dead document?
Are you being sarcastic?
The belief that the constitution is "a living document" is centered on the idea that it means whatever the ruling elite wants it to mean at any particular time... even if the new meaning runs directly counter to the actual words in the document.
The opposite of "living document" is not "dead document", it is "constructionism" or "original intent".
A constitution with no fixed meaning is worthless... it protects nothing.
You ever see those photographs of Hitler before one of his first infamous speeches? It was done by a professional photographer and he got all "dressed up" for the photo shoot.
Amazingly enough, I think I know exactly what you are talking about. Adolph trying out gestures and expressions. There was a series of them.
re: #693 Racer X
Yep, if y'all have 5 or 6 sockpupets as Joe Six Pack apparently had, he coulda dinged up one of his post by each one of his sock puppets.
As I said; cowardice and behavior barely acceptable for junior high school, much less LGF.
It is better to have someone jerk you off with a loose hand than a clenched fist.
Since you brought it up ...
There seems to be a curious absence from the very beginning of speculation on the sexuality of Teh One. For that matter, that absence extends to the lack of presence of sexuality. Especially when speaking of narcissism, sexuality is an integral component. Most narcissists tend to have a heightened (and often deviant) sexuality, but it is more often about power and influence than it is about intimacy or love.
Just my random thoughts. Where's the man's sexuality? Does it even exist?
Sounded like it. Watched the most recent online last night. Who's carrying season 1?
USA. My husband left the TV going when he left the room, I'm just letting NCIS keep me company (along with all of you) while I correct a bazillion tests on Realism and Naturalism.
I could never do a sockpuppet. I have all I can handle keeping track of one nick.
Oh, I would have a lot of fun with a sockpuppet. We could argue over milke chocolate vs. dark chocolate, and my sockpuppet could maliciously post videos of horrible 80's pop music...without a warning, and I could see if I could get it as negative as my real karma is positive.
But I'm afraid to endanger my ability to comment here; it means more than some silly sock puppet.
A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, "This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you."
The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, "Which do you want, son?"
The boy takes the quarters and leaves.
"What did I tell you?" said the barber. "That kid never learns!"
Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. "Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?"
The boy licked his cone and replied, "Because the day I take the dollar, the game's over!"
Ill be quite the water cooler raconteur with that one...
The more I think about it though, comparing Barney Frank with Jeffrey Dalmer becomes less and less of a stretch.
I've composed a few letters (in mind only) and one is to Frank 'n Dodd:
"How does it feel to be part and parcel of of a scandal that dwarfs l'affaire Madoff? How does it feel to have drained pension and retirement reserves, thrown millions out of work, ruined countless businesses, caused mass confusion and loss of market confidence, precipatated massive government intrusion into the marketplace (on that score they'd applaud) on a global scale?"

Or everything. Which ends up being the same thing.
There was a comment a couple days, weeks, dunno, ago re: the Constitution and the abortion issue. It was my belief that it was horribly weakened by the torture that it took to get a 'right' to abortion out of it, and that it has not fully recovered.

Yes, I'm, being sarcastic, but it's also worth recalling that we have, with great care, been interpreting and modifying said document for a while now.

Three global warming researchers stranded in the North Pole by cold weather were holding out hope Wednesday as a fourth plane set off in an attempt deliver them supplies.
The flight took off during a break in bad weather after “brutal” conditions halted three previous attempts to reach the British explorers who said they were nearly out of food, the Agence France-Presse reported.
Hellooo! It's winter time at the north pole...you're not going to find a Holiday Inn Express with a swimming pool.

I think you just admitted that much of what the left wants to do is unconstitutional... they view the document as something to get around.
I do not see those who disagree with me as "not loving their country", only those who see its foundational principles as an impediment to their agenda fit in that category.

I think if they were honest they would tell you that it feels just fine. The press blamed Bush/the GOP and they got re-elected and more power than they could have dreamed of. Indeed, the bastards are probably laughing their ass off.

Great care? GREAT CARE? They've been stomping on the thing with hob-nailed boots for goodness sake. Where do you get a decision like Kelo?
Where do you get the 'abortion right' as part of the right to privacy?
To make it clear, I take a stand against the 'federal' right to choose. That never should have been a federal issue and the states could(and were) dealing with it as they saw fit.
The Constitution had very well defined limits for federal authority that have been absolutely trampled, twisted, and stomped.
They asked "who Obama was in American literature?" Wow. I suppose it wouldn't be right to be sarcastic with the kids in a professional educational environment. //

A month ago I didn't like Obama that much.. now I'm getting scared.. troops being sent into Alabama.. and won't say who ordered it.. wanting to back door away the 2nd amendment.. a bill to create a uniformed national civilian corps with camps out in rural areas for advanced training?
by police officers? threatening death to business men who get a bonus they earned doing what this treasury sect wanted them to do. can you spell scapegoat? can "Fat Joo" be far away now?
the amount of money they are printing.. what is it now about 12 trillions this year.. more then has ever been spent in Omericas history.
we are going to be loose change in a socialist world.. not get change

It's all the BTUs those polar bears are dumping into the ocean by swimming so hard that are causing the problem.
And the butterflies farting in Chicago. With the unicorns. And leprechauns.
Some of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners could be released into the United States...
As in let go released, or released into our prisons? This is the same Eric Holder who accused us of being a nation of cowards, and he still has his job?
So we have Holder who wants to release Gitmo terrorists into the U.S., and we have Tony West, Obama's nominee for the Justice Dept., who was a terrorist's defense attorney! I assume Holder and West will be working in concert - one let's them go and the other one defends them. What a team.

Well, we now know how to stop the ice caps from melting. Announce a Global Warming Seminar with Al Gore as the keynote speaker at the North Pole.
They asked "who Obama was in American literature?" Wow. I suppose it wouldn't be right to be sarcastic with the kids in a professional educational environment. //
No, but I will ask them in June. We were discussing Deerslayer in the last stages of the election, and we did discuss Palin's campaign and the image of the American Romantic hero. It's not a perfect match, but they had some fun with it, and some of them brought in some magazine articles and such. It made Fenimore Cooper more fun, and really, he's so...early nineteenth century.
The Juniors do American Literature, from Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards straight through. We have to keep referring back to the history as we go--luckily they have a U.S. history course the same year--and during the election they were rather interested in what was going on.
On that thoughtful note, I'll wish you all a good night, it's late.
Did Avanti leave? I just got a call from my uncle, and he has a 1961 Studebaker Champ Pickup Truck with 2329 miles on it and he wants it off his property.

The title and all papers are in the glove compartment and my uncle says anyone that can haul it can have it.

OK it's just that I focused on the part where he said:
"Patriotic writers focused on taking over America piece by piece." Sounded a bit like a criticism of manifest destiny? Or, it could be seen as a criticism of our American history almost from a Howard Zinn point of view.
"The Realist writers were not patriotic people who wanted to take over America piece by piece."
Sometimes, my students come up with deeply mysterious sentences.
I think he or she tried to shoehorn too much in there. Kind of reminds me of that confusing thing Jack the Ripper wrote on the wall in Goulston Street.
Excuse me for being late, but what part of "defend the United States" does this policy fall under? I know Pres. Obama and AG Holder are "socialists" but not even Castro, Ho Chi Minh, or Stalin would have cavalierly tossed their own country's defense under the bus in such a manner.
RE #72 Racer X
I give my West. Civ. class that "Socialist Game" every year when we cover Marx. They never fall for it, they want the grades they earn and screw the slackers (who usually haven't made it to class since I teach an 8AM lecture).
A bartender is sitting behind the bar on a typical day, when the door busts open and in come four exuberant blondes. They come up to the bar, order five bottles of champagne and ten glasses, take their order over and sit down at a large table. The corks are popped, the glasses are filled, and they begin toasting and chanting, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Soon, three more blondes arrive, take up their drinks and the chanting grows. "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Two more blondes show up and soon their voices are joined in raising the roof. "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Finally, the tenth blonde comes in with a picture under her arm. She walks over to the table, sets the picture in the middle and the table erupts. Up jump the others, they begin dancing around the table, exchanging high-fives, all the while chanting "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" The bartender can't contain his curiosity any longer, so he walks over to the table. There in the center is a beautifully framed child's puzzle of the Cookie Monster. When the frenzy dies down a little bit, the bartender asks one of the blondes, "What's all the chanting and celebration about?" The blonde who brought in the picture pipes in, "Everyone thinks that blondes are dumb and they make fun of us. So, we decided to set the record straight. Ten of us got together, bought that puzzle and put it together...the side of the box said 2-4 years, but we put it together in 51 days!"

The Pax Romana collapsed and hundreds of thousands died...
The colonial powers (French, British, Dutch, Spanish) withdrew and hundreds of thousands died.
I don't see where a exercising hegemony with superior power ever accomplished anything...
What's the reading list these days. My dad taught English for 30+ years in N. Calif. and Colorado. I used to help him grade tests and papers. I remember his realism section was heavy on Mark Twain.
We read a couple excerpts from the slave narratives, Douglass and Jacobs, "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", "A Mystery of Heroism", "War Is Kind", "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", "The War Prayer", "The Lowest Animal", "A Pair of Silk Stockings" and "A Wagner Matinee". And some Edward Arlington Robinson.
We're going to do a little Hemingway and a Faulkner story next, and then I'm going to hit them with Gatsby, who I suspect they will like. Scarlet Letter nearly killed them all.
"The Lowest Animal" was popular. Although I almost resigned, the day I asked what Twain meant by "numerous uniformed assassins", and the kid I called on said "Ninjas?"
Luckily for my sanity, one of the others yelled "soldiers, you moron, he means that only people have armies".

Wow, that is a great. Are you in the public schools? If so, there is much hope for your students! My older sons have been quite lucky with their teachers as well. They will graduate with a pretty solid education, well prepared for college.
Coach K (of Duke) is ticked because BO picked arch rival North Carolina to win it all. And Coack K is right about the Prez's priorities.
Its that kind of stuff that undermines the press. Where did coach K say he was pissed because Obama picked UNC? Does CNN have psychic powers? Or did coach K simply criticize Obama's priorities, and CNN made up the rest to undercut coach K's opinion?
A couple had two little boys, ages eight and ten, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved. The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior. The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the clergyman. The husband said, "We might as well. We need to do something before I really lose my temper!" The clergyman agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually. The eight-year-old went to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?" At that, the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home slamming himself in his closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and said, "What happened?" The younger brother replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!"
OK it's just that I focused on the part where he said:
"Patriotic writers focused on taking over America piece by piece." Sounded a bit like a criticism of manifest destiny? Or, it could be seen as a criticism of our American history almost from a Howard Zinn point of view.
I think he's trying to say that Realist writers weren't jingoistic, and acknowledged the human tragedy of war, but I don't know about the piece by piece thing. Sometimes I just don't know what they mean to try to say.

the press didn't say it ... I was being cheeky when I said it. but I believe Coach K was spot on in his assessment of BO's time management priorities.
I think he's trying to say that Realist writers weren't jingoistic, and acknowledged the human tragedy of war, but I don't know about the piece by piece thing. Sometimes I just don't know what they mean to try to say.
Ah, OK. Not knowing the context or history of "Realist Writers" would confuse my interpretation of that statement.
I think he or she tried to shoehorn too much in there. Kind of reminds me of that confusing thing Jack the Ripper wrote on the wall in Goulston Street.
Lord. I don't think I'll tell Kiddo's mom that his writing reminds people of Jack the Ripper.
I remember reading The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock aloud in college and having one co-student say the cat imagery was pretty. Pretty? The cat imagery describes smog. The ninny figured poetry was supposed to be pretty, so it was safe to say that it was a pretty image of smog smothering a house. Sigh. At least she didn't say it was cute.
I read it earlier, and can believe it, with what we have in office here. There is not one friend of Israel in the Hussein regime.
Shrillary as Sec of State? The list is far too long, and I am fed up. What the Manchurian Candidate has managed to do in just less than 2 months? Essentially he has made Jimmy the Jew hater look almost rational re Israel.
The only thing that makes me feel even a drop of hope is that he is losing the public, and deservedly so. Not only are we in a fight for any sort of financial security brought on by the machinations of Bubba and Jimmy, we face a future that for our kids and grandkids offers a bleak future re a university education, and thus also the research that has been done here and in Israel both? Endangered. in this technological society, we just cannot afford to go backwards. The hate of Jews is now no longer really endemic; it is a pandemic.
When I look at my kids, all 4 of whom are very well educated, and at my 2 1/2, nearly 7 and nearly 9-year old grandkids? What does the future bode for them? A lot of public schools are regressing, and the teachers are just mailing it in. The unions and tenure are not interested in the kids. Yes, there are so many wonderful teachers still, but they are being outnumbered.
Without our support of Israel? The vultures are reading a feeding frenzy. And The One and his buddies are hovering overhead, ready to strike. Let any Jew who voted for Hussein realize what they did, and suffer the consequences. There is no turning back, and we have to stand together to fight and vanquish the enemy within.
And the fight began not on Inauguration day, but on Election day.
G'nite all. Am I angry? Livid, actually. Have I given up? Not on your life. United we stand...or then we will be lost.
May today be a better day than yesterday.
And Killgore? Anyone with the brains to hire you will be very lucky.
Wow, that is a great. Are you in the public schools? If so, there is much hope for your students! My older sons have been quite lucky with their teachers as well. They will graduate with a pretty solid education, well prepared for college.
Catholic HS. I really hope they will be prepared. This is my first year teaching Juniors, and I'm just trying to keep up with the fifteen-year veteran next door to me.
None of this I assume is written by hand is it? I guess that depends on the economic status of the students.
The kids write tests by hand, and usually homework, but papers get done on the computer. We have a computer lab. There's a range, but we're basically lower-middle-class. Lots of the kids have home computers.
"A Rose For Emily" is in their text, and I think it's pretty fun, so probably that. I may give them a page or two of one of the novels, to see what his style turned into.

Right, computer labs would help for printing and the like The last time I did any "writing" for grades involved a Panasonic typewriter and my spell check hardware was a dictionary. I think the intimacy of being alone with ones writing or analysis helps cut down on distractions and thus increases focus.
At his town hall meeting in Costa Mesa, Calif., Wednesday evening, President Obama compared embattled insurer AIG and other large failing banks to a suicide bomber.
"Here's the problem," Mr. Obama said, "It's almost like they've got -- they've got a bomb strapped to them and they've got their hand on the trigger. You don't want them to blow up. But you've got to kind of talk them, ease that finger off the trigger."
the press didn't say it ... I was being cheeky when I said it. but I believe Coach K was spot on in his assessment of BO's time management priorities.
Actually, CNN did say that...
Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski isn't thrilled his team got snubbed by the leader of the free world.
"Somebody said that we're not in President Obama's Final Four, and as much as I respect what he's doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets," Krzyzewski told a reporter from the Associated Press on Wednesday.
They make it seem like coach K is reacting to Obama's snubbing... as if he really cares about anybody's brackets, or that he might have reacted differently had Obama chosen Duke.
I read it earlier, and can believe it, with what we have in office here. There is not one friend of Israel in the Hussein regime.
How can you say that? That is just an outrage. I saw his speech to AIPAC where he said that he was Firmly Committed to an undivided Jerusalem as the capitol of the state of Israel.
How DARE you question Teh 0ne!11!one~~!
Of course, I also 'read' his staffer deny the whole thing the next day - "it is of course up to the Israelis and Parasitians Palestinians to work these things out."
The man is a liar. Even more so than a politician is expected to be.
"A Rose For Emily" is in their text, and I think it's pretty fun, so probably that. I may give them a page or two of one of the novels, to see what his style turned into.
The reason I asked is that I love a film version of one of his short novels. It's 98 minutes long (a couple of classes?) and very well done. An amazon review says
In this Horton Foote (Tender Mercies) adaptation of the William Faulkner short story, an honorable prisoner put to work by the Red Cross rescues a pregnant woman grasping a tree just feet above the turbulent waters of the 1927 Mississippi flood. Having never manned a boat before and wildly off course, the convict (Arliss Howard, Full Metal Jacket) manages to convey Addie (Jeanne Tripplehorn, The Firm) in what amounts to a rowboat to New Orleans and then back home, while she gives birth and recovers on board their vessel. Along the way the pair manages to befriend Cajuns, conquer crocodiles, and fall quietly in love. This Hallmark Hall of Fame production directed by John Kent Harrison is suspenseful, moving, and, while leisurely paced, ultimately quite rewarding. Its lack of sexual content, violence (except to a few of the aforementioned crocs), or rough talk make it excellent family fare. --Kimberly Heinrichs
There's an important difference: Obama actually believes in fighting the banks, whereas he ignores the threat of suicide bombers.
Here's the excerpt of what he said:
"Here's the problem," Mr. Obama said, "It's almost like they've got -- they've got a bomb strapped to them and they've got their hand on the trigger. You don't want them to blow up. But you've got to kind of talk them, ease that finger off the trigger."

I think Coach K, as a former member of the military probably didn't care much for BO even before today.
Never heard of them, must be regional. Where are you from?
The closest I've come to Treachers fish is Long John Silvers anymore. Love batter dipped fish.
The beautiful Pacific Northwet. Tacoma. Been in Phoenix AZ for over thirty years. I have come to the conclusion that what I read once is too true:
Living in the Northwest is like being in love with a beautiful woman...
who's always sick.
Skipper's did a fried fish that was cut thin and lightly battered. the one by my house never overcooked them and they were always Just Done Right.
The Nation was founded on a few simple principals.
Life
Liberty
Pursuit of Happiness
That Rights are intrinsic to the individual.
The left today may give lip service to those words but their actions place restrictions on individual rights.
What proposal in the last 2 years of a Democratic controlled
congress, and the last 2 months of a Democrat President have expanded,
or further strengthened individual rights?
Indeed. Actually, it should have been Life, Liberty, and Property. They had loony liberals back then, too.
And you’re right. These are intrinsic rights. They are not "granted" to us by any government, nor can they be revoked. (However, justice demands retribution in kind against people who deprive others of these rights).
Elitists, statists, petty criminals, and most dangerous of all, vacuous utopianists, do not think “ordinary” people deserve freedom and equality under the law. These kind of politicians become addicted to feelings of power and control. They routinely and arrogantly rob people of their lives, their liberties, and their property in the name of the children, the environment, social justice, redistribution of (other people's) wealth, world peace, or simply political expediency.
They are in power now. Do you think that they won’t do or say anything to retain it?
I saw that. For some reason, I couldn't copy and paste the text. Strange.
I don't know what to say about Obama. That statement would be weird for Biden. I knew Obama downgraded the threat of terrorism but this is ridiculous. And scary.
If your family is like my family, they'll welcome the arrival of the poor mistreated Gitmo detainees into America's communities -- with loaded rifles and 24/7 civilian surveillance. This will cause deaths on one side or the other within one year of release, mark my words. And then all hell will break loose.

Probably a fluke (no whale pun intended).
There is a Skippers in south Everett, and though I have never been there, I am acquainted with someone who used to work there. People drive up from places like Federal Way to go to it!
Did Avanti leave? I just got a call from my uncle, and he has a 1961 Studebaker Champ Pickup Truck with 2329 miles on it and he wants it off his property.
It seems like a friend of his brother left the vehicle on his property 3 months ago, because he needed a place to store it while he was moving, but he never came back for the truck, and my uncle can't find him.
I didn't see WHITE SMOKE or a sarc tag, Walter. But if you're serious, and not joking, tell him to put it on auction at Ebay-after talking with some classic car experts. The money wouldn't bother his life style too much, I hope...
The title and all papers are in the glove compartment and my uncle says anyone that can haul it can have it.
One might say it's ridiculous for him to be making NCAA picks and going on the Tonight Show, etc...however, I'm all for it. Anything to keep his ass from doing anything REMOTELY important is okay in my eyes.
Wow...did I notice a Skippers reference a few posts up?! There used to be a Skippers in Fresno and we would go with my family, but that thing shut down in like 1992. I was like, five years old when they closed. It was good though.
I don't know what to say about Obama. That statement would be weird for Biden. I knew Obama downgraded the threat of terrorism but this is ridiculous. And scary.
Me either. Yes. Yes, it is. Very!
Tapper is emerging as one of the good guys. I like his fearlessness.
/what an ass, and why is he in California anyway, doesn't he have anything to do?
"Hey man like wow you know. It's. It's like these guys running AIG and taking all that money man. Like. You know. It's like they're suicide bombers with a bomb strapped to them and they've got their hand on the trigger. You don't want them to blow up. But you've got to kind of talk them, ease that finger off the trigger. Like wow man. You got anything to eat?"
I think Coach K, as a former member of the military probably didn't care much for BO even before today.
Perhaps... I dunno.
What I don't like about stories like CNN's is the assignment of motives to people's words or actions without any actual evidence for that assignation. News orgs. do that too often, and usually to portray those they see as "not like them" in a negative light... for instance hinting opposition to welfare comes from a lack of compassion, or a barely hidden racist streak.
If they know why someone said or did something, share the info with us. If not, don't give us a b.s. motivation.
When they are just guessing, they are really just showing us their inner oppositional strawmen... the cartoon characteristics they ascribe to their political enemies.
I hear you. I'm over here on the east cast, Pa. to be exact. How's the fishing in the desert? ;>}
I'm told that there is great fly fishing in the Black River area (I think it's on the Apache reservation in the central eastern part of the state). My eldest went there on a scouting trip - he got a couple of trout.
Other than that, I don't have a clue. I used to fish in Puget Sound... salmon, flounder, sea bass. Yum. Double yum.
Today on Glenn Beck, Peter Johnson, Jr., was on to discuss the complete Constitutional violation of U.S. Army MPs being sent to Alabama recently. Beck’s show contacted everybody to find out who sent them, but nobody seemed to know. It’s also a clear violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, but who knows who called it?
Folks, this is getting very scary and very serious. People think Bush was out of hand with the Patriot Act, but this act of sending the Army in to a municipal city with NO obvious reason or invitation goes way above and beyond anything Bush did.

I was over at ABC News reading the comments section, and thought this one said it all about the above quote:
Oh, so that's how it's done? I'm a Soldier and have been fighting suicide bombers for a few years now. If only I knew that I just need to talk to them sooner! I could have saved a few terrorist lives!
It's on Tapper's blog, late entry. No, quite serious.
I share your incredulity.
Well. That's not the Onion. Wow. Again, wow.
I suppose if I said that once a homicide bomber blows up he can't do anymore damage I'd be labeled as a 'radical'?
Geez. Un bloody believable.
And i just heard some outrage on tv about the Iowa senator saying 'apology or suicide'.
Madness. Utter madness.
Yesterday, I attended a CLE on military legal issues presented by two Army JAG Colonels and a Major. They didn't outright say so, but they didn't seem all that impressed with the new Obama polices on what used to be called enemy combatants.
/but the first hand description of Iraq detainee operations was fascinating
Thank goodness for Jake Tapper. He's about the only journalist around willing to report these statements.
Tapper seems to have found a niche for himself. He's definitely not shilling for the left and covering 0's rear, yet he also doesn't have that taint that some of the more 'right wing' media seem to have. No one hates him (well, except for maybe Roberts Gibbs LOL) ...he seems to be a straight shooter, damned rare in these times.
In the end it's almost fitting. We come near the end this thread with a report of Obama comparing AIG and "Big Banks" to suicide bombers while at the same time the Attorney General supports releasing Gitmo prisoners terrorists into the general population.
I'm told that there is great fly fishing in the Black River area (I think it's on the Apache reservation in the central eastern part of the state). My eldest went there on a scouting trip - he got a couple of trout.

Never quite got into fly fishing. I mostly like the bay and ocean. I fished Lake Erie last year for salmon, damn they're good. When you say sea bass, are you talking about stripers(rock fish) or those smaller blackish brown bass?

He's an up and comer to be watched.
True. Tapper has been about the closest to being conservative for a long time at ABC or the MSM. He's wavered before which is something that was pretty evident to anyone that's read his blogs but it's good to see him there and reporting on the reality of Barack Obama.
Today on Glenn Beck, Peter Johnson, Jr., was on to discuss the complete Constitutional violation of U.S. Army MPs being sent to Alabama recently. i could be wrong, but my understanding is that the local 5 man department put out an all hands plea for help, and that the MP's simply provided crowd control and crime scene security to protect evidence. it may be technically illegal, but i'd like to think that what they did was a good thing, for all the right reasons, and ultimately, was what Soldiers are supposed to do: protect & defend this country and it's citizens.
That had to be from the White House or Congress. If it was from the Defense Department worried about terrorists, they would have NOT sent MP's. They would have sent troops if needed for national defense. What? They thought MP's would arrest damn terrorists?
Code Pink sold that cottage they had on Solano. So that won't work. Luckily. The neighbors have suffered enough.
I went to the deli next to the former Code Pink house, and now it ( the house) looks completely normal.
What a moonbat lunatic eyesore that place was.
A relief to have it occupied by presumably sane humans.
Lizards, I recall Holder worked for a law firm that represented some GITMO vacationers. Don't know which. Must be tough being too much of a terrorist for the Red Chinese. Night all.
That is great. My middle made it to Star Scout...never did the Eagle...too bad. His little brother is really into camping and outdoorsy stuff. We'll see if he makes it as far as his brother did.
As an Eagle Scout and Scouter, I definitely know that it's a bit of a race to give boys the opportunities and resources to make Eagle, because once they hit 15-16, most boys' brains get taken over by perfume and gasoline...
Why not? Release them in Berkeley. Re-settle them near Code Pink members.
As long as they don't come to Portugal...
May this be a learning experience, gentleman. Next time, shoot at sight. Make no prisioners. No mercy to terrorists. Send them to Allah, with a hole in the head.
re: #953 marsl
Indeed. Let those who agitate the most for their release be among the first to see the results of their own naivete.
One of the biggest issues I have with leftists is that they do not require themselves to live with the consequences, intentional or unintentional, or their actions. In this case, I say let them do so.
The other major dropout point for Scouts is when they hit High School as Freshmen. During my youth I was surprised to see guys that I had known for three years work their way up the ranks for three years (Sixth through Eighth grades) only to leave once Freshman Year came around. Even guys who were patrol leaders.
The Chinese at least are not terrorists or enemy combats. They were supposed to be released a long time ago, and have been living in fairly nice conditions at GITMO trying to find out where to release them. Here's their story.
That's a story. I'm not convinced that it is their story. The little article on Musi.com, which you refered to, doesn't seem to delve into the circumstances that found these male youths in Afghanistan. Everyone in Stateville prison claims that they're innocent. Maybe we should just release everyone in every state and federal prison sentenced during the Bush years. If America is so bad as you libz claim these guys should welcome being sent back China.
TWL, something tells me that OBL himself doesn't qualify as am ""evil terrists"" terrorist in your book.
These 'innocent' Chinese muslim youths were captured in a war zone during a war. Even if they are innocent, which is doubtful, they're not the 1st people to be interred or refugeed during a war. Sh1t happens. One could actually say that they're lucky that they weren't killed by the Afghans given the circustances. If the Americans hadn't taken them they would likely be dead right now.
So I'm not buying your BS sob story. The fact that they don't want to go home kind of undercuts your anti-American BS diatribe.
Three global warming researchers stranded in the North Pole by cold weather were holding out hope Wednesday as a fourth plane set off in an attempt deliver them supplies.
Dear God please release those terrorist in Mississippi. I would love to see all of the necks around here dish out a little justice. Yeehaa! Woooheee! I mean if the world is going to believe Mississippi is full of dumb hillbillies then we will be more than happy to prove them right. :) We know evil when we see it. Just tell us the time and date of their release. We can take care of the rest.
BO has a plan. He’s working on the catastrophic event in which he can institute marshal law. And I’m sure the word phrase “for the children” will be in his proclamation.
The Chinese at least are not terrorists or enemy combats. They were supposed to be released a long time ago, and have been living in fairly nice conditions at GITMO trying to find out where to release them. Here's their story.
Thanks for posting the link. I stand somewhat corrected.
I still can't see how releasing them into the United States is the right choice. As someone pointed out in the link you posted, habeas corpus isn't supposed to be compensatory.
I wonder...if they were returned to their native land, would they be any more likely to face repression than they were before they were "sold" to U.S. forces by "bounty hunters"?
Perhaps they could be returned to Afghanistan, which has a Uighur population and which I assume is where they were taken in the first place.
well of course. the real threat we face is from AIG employees. Release GITMO detainees right into the US. No problem. The real issue is we need the names of the AIG employees who received bonuses. they are the bigger threat.
Let's release them. They can go into the White House basement and be pin spotters for Obama. Since he thinks that they are such nice guys, maybe they can babysit for the daughters while he and Michelle go out and party.
You don't have the slightest understanding of the difference between government action and private action, and you have certainly destroyed any case you might otherwise have had with this Senator. -- Senator Gorton, to which Frank Zappa responds with "Is this private action?"
