Obama’s Blue Ribbon Economy Panel Sitting Idle

Politics • Views: 3,522

A month and a half after Barack Obama set up a special panel to advise him on the economy, the panel has yet to meet publicly.

Six weeks after President Barack Obama appointed a blue-ribbon panel to help him dig America out of its economic crisis, the board has yet to hold an official public meeting.

The White House initially said that the 16-member Presidential Economic Recovery Advisory Board, headed by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, would meet “every few weeks.” Last month, a spokesperson told POLITICO the group would meet monthly. And more recently, the White House said the high-powered board, set up to address what Obama has called the worst economic emergency since the Great Depression, would gather only about four times a year, with the next session due in “late spring.”

But comments from board members and Obama himself indicate that some members of the panel are meeting, in smaller gatherings that have not been announced or opened to the public. And that raises the question of whether an administration that prides itself on openness and transparency is in fact finding it more convenient to conduct public business in private.

There is no need to actually meet. By announcing the fact that such a panel was created it appears that something is being done. And we all know that appearance is everything. Substance is unimportant.

The White House said the advisory committee was, in fact, hard at work. “Members have been gathering information, conducting research, and analyzing relevant issues in preparation for the next full board meeting,” spokesperson Jen Psaki said. “Individual members are in regular contact with officials at Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and the White House….The President has also made calls to individuals.”

We know that to be a crock of shit, there is no one at the Treasury for them to speak to.

Just an observation, but the "Tea Bag" demonstrations are REAL Americans trying to send a message that we must do something to let the liberals know that we are not all asleep at the wheel like they think we are, and trying to get Americans involved to learn about the Constitution! Secondly, the MFSM was always trying to dispair W about WMD, in my estimation Obama and his crew are the real WMD!

You know, I used to be worried about the kind of agenda Obama would introduce, but now I'd be happy if he just did his freaking job. It's one thing to have a president whose policies you don't agree with, and it's another to see this country being put at serious risk because of Obama's incompetence.

Stop bowling, working on your brackets, appearing on Leno, and otherwise campaigning and just do your job. Fill your posts, meet with your panels, tell your protocol people to get their crap together, stop making videos for Iran that make us look stupid.
Oh, and stop giggling on 60 Minutes.

He thinks he is doing "his job." Remember he has never held a real job with actual responsibilities in his entire life. Campaigning is all he knows how to do. I don't think he even knows how to "community organize" since Chicago machine goons did all the legwork.

Police said all four officers were shot by Lovelle Mixon, 26, of Oakland, a parolee who fled after shooting the first two officers after a traffic stop, then shot two more after a SWAT team entered an apartment in which he was hiding. Mixon was also killed by officers, police said.

I don't get why supporting Iraq - and liberating 25 million people is seen as a negative. That's called projection by the Left, which refuses to accept that deposing a genocidal dictator is a good idea.

Oh, they'll point out the cost, which is several hundred billion over the past seven years. Right. Okay. Obama doubled up the deficit within 60 days. One has the chance of creating a longstanding ally in a region where the only reliable ally is Israel. The other has only the chance to bankrupt the nation and create so much debt that our great grandchildren will be paying for porkbarrel projects for decades to come.

The German doctor stood up and said, "Well medicine in my county is so

The Russian doctor got up and said "My country is even more advanced, we can
remove half of a heart from one person, put it into another and have them
both looking for work in just 3 months!"

Not to be outdone, the American doctor stood up and addressed the

The "observations" on that page are largely crap.

E.g.:

The “Tea Parties”, of course, started springing up in response to Obama’s stimulus package, a package whose largest fiscal component is a tax cut that will largely benefit the people in the income brackets who make up the Tea Party movement. That I find funny.

Assumptions here: 1) The "largest fiscal component" of the Obama plan is a tax cut... nonsense. 2) The author knows the financial situation of the Tea Party participants... nonsense. 3) Even assuming both of the foregoing, is it so imcomprehensible that you could oppose a government plan that might yield an immediate, short-term benefit to you, personally, but which you think is a bad idea in the long run for the country?

The perp was an better than average marksman to get all 4 with head shots.

No shit, I was thinking how the hell could a guy pull this off on four cops. Then I started to wonder, he must have had a fully automatic weapon at least. Hey all you law enforcement folks out there, do cops carry fully auto weapons in CA?

FBI investigates lobbying firm that is generous donor to Dicks, Murray

Congressman Norm Dicks has never been shy about accepting campaign donations from favor seekers.

Now the FBI is investigating one of Dicks' most generous donors — the powerhouse lobbying firm PMA Group.

Given all the conditions the government gives on the bailout and stimulus money, I think they got the acronym wrong. It should be TRAP.

Bad Asset Relief Fund was also bandied about as a possible name--BARF!

Hasn't he done enough damage already?

More than enough. If he ever realizes that being President is about the country and not about himself, the work will begin. It's all about grandstanding now.

They never consider what the world would look like today had Saddam Hussein remained in power. That drives me crazy. It's bad enough without him. Imagine it with him.

I watched the History Channel program last night about Saddam and Hitler. They covered the crazy, Stalinesque things Saddam did (taking roughly sixty of his opponents out of a meeting one-by-one, and shooting them...making other people shoot them, shooting some himself)...have people forgotten what kind of man he was, or do they simply not care?

I am not law enforcment, but... unlikely that patrol cops carry full auto; highly likely that SWAT does. Full auto is not as useful as you think, in any case. If this scumbag was a good shooter with a semiauto weapon, that's all he'd need (plus some luck).

The liberals wish they could do that to Republicans. Except for actually pulling the trigger themselves; they hate guns.

From what I've seen the first two got taken down on a routine traffic stop. Bad just plain got the drop. The 2nd two the bad guy opened fire through a closed closet door.

And he hasn't assigned 17 out of 18 posts in the Treasury that require Senate confirmation. And he isn't holding TARP review meetings, as the law requires.

In other words, he isn't doing the job of President.

Has he ever don the job. or just read the teleprompter on TV interviews and held lavish parties?

Really.

Were you looking in my "collection"? (One can of Billy Beer, a six-pack of M*A*S*H 4077 and a JR Ewing can, all unopened, all completely undrinkable. Beer does NOT age well; trust me. After drinking a can of Czech Budvar from 1988 s few years ago, I know of what I speak. Yuck... (OK, it was mostly spitting it back out and the guy that gave it to me did not know how old it was until I checked the date on the can. It was a "treasured" beer from his collection, stored in a light pink 1940's era Frigidaire in perfect working condition...)
