All of you folks who are coming to us from Lew Rockwell’s site (2,581 so far) should be aware that we’re collecting your IP addresses and forwarding them to our puppet masters at AIPAC, so that we can break down your doors in the middle of the night, roust you out of bed, and put you in FEMA camps when the New World Order takes over.

I hope that doesn’t spoil your fun. Carry on!

That brought a smile to my face. I remember when the "Black Helicopters" bullshit was going on. What was interesting was how it seemed to materialize overnight. Some people thought that it was put out by provocateurs just to make the idiots who believed it look like, well, nuts. One has to wonder about this latest crop of nuts. It's like with the birth certificate thing. It doesn't really matter, and it makes the people who get obsessive about it look bad.

Bullshit?

Haven't you read about The chemtrail conspiracy theory holds that some condensation trails (contrails) are actually toxic chemicals or biological agents deliberately sprayed at high altitude for a purpose undisclosed to the general public. Versions of the conspiracy theory circulating on the internet and on some radio talk shows theorize that this activity is directed by government officials, and federal agencies have received thousands of complaints from people who have demanded an explanation.[1] The existence of chemtrails has been repeatedly denied by federal agencies and scientists.

The Chemtrail crowd is all part and parcel of the Black Helicopter ninnies. Alex Jones lives here in Austin (Keepin' it weird!) and will tell anyone who says they haven't heard them, "See?!?! Silent bastards associated with the secretly sited UN troops in Bastrop! Blue helmets! Aaaargh!" Leaving aside for the moment that good ol' Liptons paper tea bags are, presumably, biodegradable, too; there was one thing they forget to mention on the box:

The End of the Global War on Terror

The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phrase -- has been codified at the Pentagon. Reports that the phrase was being retired have been circulating for some time amongst senior administration officials, and this morning speechwriters and other staff were notified via this e-mail to use "Overseas Contingency Operation" instead.

So, Terrorists will now be named Contingentists?

re: #230 Occasional Reader

That's funny stuff. I attended a grand pre-opening of a new Whole Foods in Paramus last week, and it was a pretty impressive operation. It's larger and has more food departments than the Whole Foods at the Time Warner Center (where I tossed my Time Man of the Year award over the railing btw). Seafood section was very expansive, and they have a major wine and beer section with what they claim is 1800 wine choices and serious number of beer choices. They also have a bakery, deli, and middle eastern food section.

They have some food options that aren't widely available, but stuff I don't necessarily need all the time, so I don't think I'll go there all the time, but when I need special items.

Fruits and vegetables seem fresher than other area locales, although the nearby ShopRite is in the middle of a major refurbishment and now has a major kosher food section - big plus in my book.

The increased competition is about to get even tougher around here since a Fairway is opening up in Ridgewood and is known for their perishable items - including a major cheese department. The competition is good for the consumer since we benefit from the choices.

That one is easy. I don't much like apples. Apple pie occasionally, and that's about it. I liked the thing about tuna-free dolphin. I'll have to try that if my girlfriend drags me to one again :-)

Anyone here tried Genova brand tuna? It is the most amazing stuff.

when i walk into a whole foods store, they kick me out explaining that they dont serve my kind here. (i actually bathe)

Well I try to avoid anything with a touchy-feely feel-good vibe to it.

One time back during the Reagan Administration I went to a concert at the Cedar Cultural Center (the former Cedar Theater in Minneapolis) where the opening act actually spent more time explaining how she wrote her songs than actually playing them (a clear warning sign) and I noticed on the way in to the auditorium that the establishment (which may be the wrong word to use in this context) was proudly serving Nicaraguan Coffee. This was at a time when Nicaragua was under Marxist rule and coffee from there was grown on collective farms with forced labor.

I have to admit, being proud of consuming the product of slave labor has to be a pretty neat trick.

(I needed an excuse to tell that story.)

re: #313 lawhawk

You want a good specialty store? Go check out Corrado's in Wayne. Better than the one in Clifton. Most awesome produce section imaginable. Fantastic selection of bread from Brooklyn, excellent meats, cheeses, etc. Awesome place. Prices are really good.

Talk about “change.” The first question is “why should we trust you?” Two months ago, any reporter who asked that question would have been stoned by the rest of the press corps. The only question allowed in January was “why doesn’t EVERYONE trust you?”

8:12: Obama says the bonuses were contracts “before we took over.” Wrong. Bogus. This was Geithner’s deal all the way, and Obama’s team knew all about them. The stimulus bill that approved and protected them was Obama’s.

410 lawhawk  Tue, Mar 24, 2009 7:17:27pm

So, the President thinks that he sees signs of improvement in the economy. Funny thing about that.

It has absolutely nothing to do with his porkfest or spending initiatives. Nothing whatsoever.

None of his frakking ideas have made their way from paper to implementation.

Housing figures improved without his homeowner bailout because prices continue dropping making homes more affordable at a time when the Fed keeps the interest rates at near historic lows.

That's not on Obama. That's on the rest of the economy trudging along despite the massive spending Obama contemplates.

In other words, the economy is going to improve without the porkfest, but we're going to get it anyways. Because we're told that we needed it so fast that no one could bother to read the damned thing and realize that we were giving away the farm, providing billions to AIG (including bonuses courtesy of Dodd and the Administration), and countless billions that no one knows where they will end up. Then, there's all the billions that come with strings attached for states - unfunded mandates that will saddle states with bad fiscal situations with an even tougher one once the money runs out.

There is no such thing as a free ride, and yet the media still is more than willing to put Obama up on the handlebars.

And your life in the checkout lane. It is not bad in Chicago but when I lived in NYC, I would go to the one at Time Warner Center and the lines were ridiculous. They do have better produce but 6 items = $60.

Whole Foods is headquartered in Austin, just on the other side of the river from my house. Walking distance. The HQ store is fantastic, but is in heavy competition with a Texas grocery (HEB- there's a good joke there) which has aline of stores called Central Market. It is telling that here in town, WFs is referred to as "Whole Paycheck".

There are also 2 ShopRites in Plainview that have great kosher sections, where we get our Passover stuff. The ones nearest to us, in Stamford and Yonkers just aren't as good. I have to say, the staff at the Wholefoods I've been to here in DC are very good. No snottiness at all, and in fact they're very pleasant (as opposed to the mandatory rudeness at Giant). It's the clientele who are kind of a trip.

A Taliban suicide bomber pulls the plug and explodes...BOOM!

A short while later he finds himself on a huge white staircase leading towards the heavens, so he starts climbing up. After an hour of hard climbing, he arrives at a landing where an old man in white robes with a long flowing beard is sitting surrounded by ledgers.

'Excuse me sir' he says 'are you Mohammad?'

'No' replies the old man, 'I am St Peter, Mohammed is further up the stairs'.

'But this is wonderful news' screams the bomber, 'Mohammed is higher than St Peter! I can hardly believe it.' With this he carries on climbing up the stairs.

After an hour or so of hard climbing he arrives at another landing. Standing on the landing is a serene looking man with long hair and a long white beard.

'Excuse me sir' he says 'Are you Mohammad?'

'No' replies the old man, 'I am Jesus, Mohammad is further up the stairs'.

'But this is amazing news' screams the bomber, 'Mohammad is higher than Jesus! I can hardly believe it, martyrdom is wonderful!' With this he carries on climbing up the stairs. After another hour or so of hard climbing he arrives on a huge landing. There, sitting on a magnificent throne is another old man, with flowing white robes, beard and long white hair.

'Excuse me sir' he says 'are you Mohammad?'

'No' replies the old man, 'I am God.'

'But this is absolutely amazing news' screams the bomber, 'Mohammad is higher than God! I am so happy I can't believe it, martyrdom is more than wonderful!'

'You look tired my son' said God 'would you like to sit down and rest a while?'

'Oh yes' replied the bomber 'I am very tired and would love a rest before I carry on, thank you.'

The bomber sits down and God says 'You look thirsty my son, would you like a cup of tea?'

'Oh yes please' replies the bomber 'I am most thirsty, thank you.'

With this God turns and snaps his fingers and shouts...

'Yo, Mohammad, two teas over here, and make it snappy!'

For bread, I wish I could make it over to Rockland Bakery over in Nanuet NY - you can grab the bread (rolls, bagels, anything really) as it comes off the oven line. They supply much of the bread in hotels and restaurants around the city, and nothing tastes nearly as good as bread fresh from the oven. My mom's doc told her to stay away from soy products because they increase the risk of ovarian cancer, or in my mom's case a reoccurrence

Will you make it to 80...

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, "Do you think I'll live to be 80?'

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?'

'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'

I said, 'No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking or bicycling?'

'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'

'No,' I said

He looked at me and said,...
'Then, why do you even give a s**t'.

A lesson for us all...

Husband takes his wife to play her first game of golf. Unfortunately, the wife promptly whacked her first shot right through the window of the biggest house adjacent to the course.

The husband cringed, "I warned you to be careful! Now we'll have to go up there, find the owner, apologise and see how much your lousy drive is going to cost us."

So the couple walked up to the house and knocked on the door. A warm voice said, "Come on in."

When they opened the door they saw the damage that was done: glass was all over the place, and a broken antique bottle was lying on its side near the broken window.

A man reclining on the couch asked, "Are you the people that broke my window?"

"Uh...yeah, sir. We're really sorry about that," the husband replied.

"Oh, no apology is necessary. Actually I want to thank you... You see, I'm a genie , and I've been trapped in that bottle for a thousand years. Now that you've released me, I'm allowed to grant three wishes. I'll give you each one wish, but if you don't mind, I'll keep the last one for myself."

"Wow, that's great!" the husband said. He pondered a moment and blurted out, "I'd like a million dollars a year for the rest of my life."

"No problem," said the genie. "You've got it, it's the least I can do. And I'll guarantee you a long, healthy life!" "And now you, young lady, what do you want?" the genie asked.

"I'd like to own a gorgeous home complete with servants in every country in the world," she said.

"Consider it done," the genie said. "And your homes will always be safe from fire, burglary and natural disasters!"

"And now," the couple asked in unison, what's your wish, genie?"

"Well, since I've been trapped in that bottle and haven't been with a woman in more than a thousand years, my wish is to have sex with your wife."

The husband looked at his wife and said, "Gee, honey, you know we both now have a fortune, and all those houses. What do you think?"

She mulled it over for a few moments and said, "You know, you're right. Considering our good fortune, I guess I wouldn't mind, but what about you, honey?"

"You know I love you sweetheart," said the husband. I'd do the same for you!"

So the genie and the woman went upstairs where they spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying each other in every way. After about three hours of non-stop sex, the genie rolled over and looked directly into her eyes and asked, "How old are you and your husband?"

"Why, we're both 35," she responded breathlessly.

I just started getting soy, because frankly, I hate plain milk.

I've been drinking it for years and have my favorites. The best is Westsoy Unsweetened (light blue box), regular or vanilla, though I favor regular. The refrigerated brands are usually more expensive, but if you get them, Silk is the most consistently good. I've also tried rice and almond milks, but go always go back to soy.

I loved that store. I mean it. There were so many choices--and not just between American megabrand and American gonzomegabrand.

They did a smart thing. They set up the store as series of small "street spaces". first veg and fruit, then meat and seafood, wine and beer, a small area for canned goods (in traditional grocery aisles) and dry goods next to bulk stuff (spices coffee grains &c), cheese, dairy, bakery, deli and pre-preps at the end. They forced you to "shop the store" as you wandered though it. Very smart marketing.

...so that we can break down your doors in the middle of the night, roust you out of bed, and put you in FEMA camps when the New World Order takes over.

Oh, this could be fun!

One of the interviewees in Tom Clancy's non fiction book about the Special Forces recalled a raid he participated in. They wired the door with C-4, took cover, and blew it. The guy had a wall to ceiling aquarium, and the explosion threw the doorknob through the aquarium. The target and all the raiders were suddenly swimming!

Giant Lizards Kill Fisherman

In Indonesia, a 32-year-old guy trespassed to look for fruit and the Komodo dragons attacked and killed him. It doesn't say how many were in on it. I knew they were dangerous, but I didn't know they would go on the attack and kill like that.

780 Slumbering Behemoth Stinks  Tue, Mar 24, 2009 8:05:46pm

Field Report
Date: 9-14-6012
Station: Gold Rush Pinnacle
Agent: Behemoth

Project Baby Boom:
Suppressor units in place. Suppression fields should be fully operational in three days. Project Lead Estevez estimates three weeks until total inhibitor effect. Project Lead's estimates indicate all normal human procreation to cease completely within four months of activation.

Project Crest-fallen:
Project Lead's from Gold Rush stations 3-24 report full infiltration. Water fluoridation in these districts have reached full saturation. Its "complacency effects" are astounding. Recorded levels of "Not Giving A Fuck" in the citizenry exceed expectations. Stations 25-32 have not yet achieved full infiltration, but report that they should do so in less than a week. Have not received communications from Stations 1 and 2 for twelve days. Recommend full wipe of both sites, and interrogation of any survivors.

Project Civil Unrest:
Subwoofers have been distributed to car audio shops accordingly. Project Lead Markos estimates that the civilian population in his Gold Rush districts will be sufficiently unrested due to the noise factor. For the record, I think this is a stupid idea, and that Agent Markos is a complete moron. Recommend termination of project and agent. Request privilege.

End of report.

No one suggested that the questions were prescreened, only that the reporters on the list were notified they'd be called on and asked a question. BHO does not do the hand in the air thing, so he needs to let those on the list know to have a question ready. Imagine if he's called on the Stars and Stripes guy if he did not a question ready, they'd both look silly. I don't think all the reporters knew in advance, maybe just the odd ones, not normally called on, because one reporter was surprised when called on.
If a POTUS got the questions in advance, that would be a major scandal.

You're going to get conflicting views. Some tout it, some vilify it.

The best reviews that I found in the medical literature were in J Natl Cancer Inst 2006;98: 1275 – 84, and Nutr J. 2008 Jun 3;7:17. Sure enough, there's a tremendous amount known about the estrogenic effects of soy isoflavones, but it seems that it's not completely clear if they help or hurt, in terms of breast cancer.

That one is new to me. Thanks. Hand turned projectiles, though? I guess if money simply isn't an object you can do that, but I can't imagine what that would run. A Barrett, even the bullpup bolt action Barrett, is out of my price range for the foreseeable future. I guess I could sell my bike and buy one, but, nope. That isn't going to happen.

The .408 is definitely not for the light of wallet.

As for other .50's...There's Serbu .50 BFG, LAR Grizzly, and the AR-50. Granted, they're all single shot, but money-wise they're not as hateful as an AI-AW50.

I never suggested he was being intelligent, just that voters love sound bites, not long dissertations on economics 101. Bush to his credit was much more folksy and connected better with the voters at his press conferences and Reagan was a master. Obama tends to go into a lot of boring detail.

Look, a big percentage of voters believe in evolution, probably 80% could not find Iraq on a map, only a minority could name the branches of government. Survey after survey shows the "average" voter is not all that politically savvy. I stand by my statement that politicians need to stick with sound bites. "drill baby drill", "hope and change" sells to the average voter.

They kill and eat deer. I don't see why a human would pose any big challenge. IIRC, there was some celebrity gave her husband a chance to pet one of them in a zoo, and it got ahold of his foot and did some real damage.
