O'S FOREIGN FAILURES
NEW PREZ FLUNKING GLOBAL TESTS
by Ralph Peters
AMERICA'S enemies smell blood and it's type "O."All new administrations stumble a bit as they seek their footing. But President Obama's foreign-policy botches have set new records for instant incompetence.
Contrary to left-wing myths, I wasn't a fan of the Bush administration. (I called for Donald Rumsfeld to get the boot in mid-2001.) But fair's fair. Despite his many faults, Bush sought to do good. Obama just wants to look good.
Vice President Dick Cheney was arrogant. Vice President Joe Biden is arrogant and stupid. Take your pick.
Don't worry about the new administration's ideology. Worry about its terrifying naivete.
Consider a sampling of the goofs O and his crew have made in just two months:

Geithner 'open' to China proposal
We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," he said.
"The only thing concrete I saw was expanding the use of the [special drawing rights]," Geithner said. "Anything he’s thinking about deserves some consideration."
The continued use of the dollar as a reserve currency, he added, "depends..on how effective we are in the United States...at getting our fiscal system back to the point where people judge it as sustainable over time."
President Obama flatly rejected the notion of a new global currency at last night's press conference.
UPDATE: Evidently sensing a gaffe, moderator Roger Altman told Geithner that it would be "useful" to return to the question, and asked if he foresaw a change in the dollar's centrality.
"I do not," Geithner said, adding several forceful promises, including, "We will do what's necessary to say we're sustaining confidence in our financial markets."
Geithner is a hooked fish just thrown into the river bank. flip, flop.

I'm beginning to think that the huge losses earlier were due to the man who made $1.1 billion in the last year - and nobody is saying he needs to pay 90% tax on that.
But then - he's $oros ...
That would be a great question for Obama's web conference.
President Obama, do you feel it is appropriate for rich multi-billionaire financiers to profit from the misfortune of others during this economic crisis? Follow-up: Would you advocate taxing George Soros on his ill gotten gains 90% like you advocated doing to the AIG executives?

I'll admit I have not, but unlike some others, I hope he succeeds in turning the economy. If being happy when the market goes ups, and my IRA goes up is selfish, so be it. I never said word when some on here were almost gleeful when the market tanked, allow me to be happy if it goes up. If BHO plan does not work. or can't work, then the market will tank again.

And that legislation is getting backed by the LCD industry, hoping to kneecap the plasma tv makers (who are making a cheaper product and cutting into LCD sales). I knew a guy who was in Army Spacecom (this was 15+ years ago), and he used to laugh about training soldiers in using early handheld GPS. Apparently the ones they had were about the size of an inch-thick hardback book, had a numeric coordinates display on the end, and had to be carried flat to get a fix. He said that soldiers would carry them while walking, and stare at the display, mesmerized by the coordinates changing on the display, and walk into trees, holes, etc. Hilarious.

re: #215 midwestgak
From France to Poland, from the Czech Republic to China, nations are rebuffing President Obama and offering little wiggle room for him to negotiate economic and security policies.
From that link:
'But analysts said the impact on EU policy was likely to be marginal, as the gridlocked Czech government holds little sway over policy decisions in the 27-nation bloc. Analysts stressed the political upheaval in the Czech Republic was unrelated to the turmoil sweeping Eastern Europe.
"This has zero to do with the economic crisis," said Jon Levy, an analyst with the Eurasia Group in New York. "This is entirely Czech politics. This government has always been at fundamental risk of collapse."'
Apparently, the President (who is not affected by this no-confidence vote), Mr Vaclav KLaus, will keep Mr Topolek as a sort of interim PM so he can still take all the functions to do with the EU Presidency.

Me, too. I read it and thought my bones had frozen.
Much of his work is this way, of course: Hollow Men:
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind’s singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer—
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
- And yet, it is beautiful, heart-breakingly beautiful

The Obama juggernaut inches forward toward totalitarianism: Tax Code Overhaul:
President Barack Obama is putting former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker in charge of a tax- code review aimed at closing loopholes, streamlining the law and generating revenue, budget Director Peter Orszag said.
Volcker, 81, who heads the president’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, is being asked to take a look at the laws in an effort to rebalance the tax system.
Orszag said the review, given a deadline of Dec. 4, is being ordered to make recommendations on steps to simplify the code, built over the last 96 years, in ways that would reduce tax evasion and what he called “corporate welfare.”
This coming from the man who has appointed tax evaders to oversee our economy. The foxes watching over the hen house.

re: #46 midwestgak
Geithner 'open' to China proposal
We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," he said."The only thing concrete I saw was expanding the use of the [special drawing rights]," Geithner said.
Geithner is a hooked fish just thrown into the river bank. flip, flop.
Unfortunately, that goes hand in hand with this-and BO is totally BLIND (should that read STUPID), to it;

WARNING - TOPIC CHANGE
March 25th has been designated as National Medal Of Honor Day across
America. It is an opportunity to honor those, both living and dead, who
have risked all to protect our Nation.
I have watched televised news shows, and thus far have yet to see any
mention of this on any broadcast. Have we become so jaded that we can
no longer take a few minutes to honor those who have served us so
bravely? Is it now so hard to simply say "Thank You"?
We have 435 members of Congress, a President and Vice President, Cabinet officials, and state and local politicians who all have positions of
authority because of the men and women who have given us our freedom;
yet I have not heard one of them say a word about the bravest of the
brave. To say I am disappointed is the most polite word I can use.
I offer you two quotes from George S. Patton. Today is a day to
remember what they mean.
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should
thank God that such men lived."
"Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the
spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the
victory."
I give thanks every day for the men and women who wear or have worn the uniforms of the United States Military. For me, every day is Veterans
Day.

Well Toots, I once heard someone say that the main difference between men's humor and women's humor is simply this...all men love the Three Stooges; no women do.
We love seeing Curly's face get slapped...Larrys hair getting ripped out by the handfuls, watching a load of pipes fall on Moe's head, rich people getting suckered out of their money, Curly's head actually bending a steel beam and Moe poking Larry's eyes.

Too bad for you. Her tv shows were shown abroad and she was a great ambassador for America in that she was a woman who did what she wanted to do, however zany, got what she wanted yet was crazy about her husband.
Nice to know.
As a young girl, what I saw was a ditzy female.

I saw your retraction--what a shame Hannan seems to have potential. Maybe with time he'll see clearly judging people by their appearance or race is stupid.Fortunately we too have doers :& thinkers on the back benches.
If he's outed as racist he'll be toast in Britain - in the Tory Party first of all.
Dave Cameron looks mild and sweet - but he's got a ruthless streak. He wants the Tories to win and there is no place for racists and kooks under his command. No nudge-nudge wink-wink. Others in his shadow cabinet are equally able to wield the knife, having lead the Tory party themselves.
One to look out for is the future Foreign Secretary, William Hague. Now he's a gifted orator - without teleprompter, I might add!
