Democrats Call For Tomahawk Strike Against North Korean Launchpad

World • Views: 2,559

Two former Clinton administration Democrats called for a Tomahawk strike against North Korea’s ballistic missile before it can leave the launchpad.

Yes, I said “Democrats.” That should give you an idea how serious this situation is. And not a word about it at last night’s Obama news conference.

UPDATE at 3/26/09 4:43:12 pm:

And note — this article is from 2006. What changed since then?

Patriot missiles?

I daresay striking the launch pad would be an act of war. Just thought somebody should point that out. Y’know, stuff like that used to matter, to someone or other. Sheesh. I mean, if we destroy the thing on the pad, does that mean we stop paying them not to build nukes, especially since they are continuing to do so anyway? Or should we stop accepting their counterfeit $100 bills? I mean, Hillary, guide us!

I agree, take it out on the launch pad. Too bad that will not happen. This country sorely needs an effective president who understands what is going on, and what needs to be done. Even though this calls for a missile strike, it ain’t rocket science. At this point, any second grader will do a much better job after the basics are explained.

135 lostlakehiker  Thu, Mar 26, 2009 4:47:00pm

If you’re thinking about doing it, you should be absolutely silent. Say nothing. Say even that, quietly.

If you’re not thinking about doing it, say nothing. Such matters ought not to be discussed in public. On those rare occasions when we conclude we simply must act, the action should come as a bolt from the blue. On all other occasions, silence is far better than promises of inaction or threats of action.

If you’re thinking about doing it, you need to think twice and maybe a third time. With two wars on our plate already and a big recession or a little depression at home, with our dollar floating away on a sea of newly electronically issued dollars, now might not be the time for war with North Korea.

If N. Korea has a warhead on that bird, now, unfortunately, is now.

Obama didn’t want to be leader of the FREE world or carry the responsibility to DEFEND the free world. Obama painted a big “Kick Me & Mea Culpa Maxima” sign on the White House.

Yes it is upsetting watching world leaders play “Chicken” - although I don’t think we have a lot to worry about; the NORKS aren’t stupid enough to actually fire a missile at Pearl Harbor - and we won’t or “allow” the Japanese to shoot it down. SO it’s not really a game of chicken, unless you’re talking about our side’s attitude!

It’s an interesting Mexican stand off. North Korea has already stated that shooting down the satellite would be an act of war. They hold South Korea hostage, and the gambit is that they would invade. If the US shoots the missile down, then they have thin pretext to re-engage SK, since we have never really signed a peace accord since the war fifty years ago.

On the other hand, Japan doesn’t care if they invade South Korea, and know that NK has little they could do against Japan.

I’m torn.
I’d like to guess that we won’t shoot it down (all the usual reasons, Obama is a wuss, it’s a very belligerent act that would give any leader pause, we might fail in our attempt, etc.), but the noises from the cognoscenti are a bit louder than usual.
I absolutely do not want the NoKo’s to gain an ICBM capability (for lack of a better term), and I will unashamedly praise Obama if he does the right thing.

In the current perverse US political system, a “D” can be more military, because the media will think the “D” flavor use of force is “OK”.

On the other hand, a “D” will postpone the use of force probably too long, and have to use more force than if it were used earlier.

What a country.

No, which is why I spent a couple of weeks pounding the pavement for McCain/Palin last fall. My husband’s deployed, and I really should have been home with the kids, but I knew Obama would be a disaster and felt I had to do what I could to try to convince people of that.

I also donated way too much money to groups whose commercials I liked, and to McCain/Palin. I did not support McCain in the primaries…at all. He was only above Ron Paul on the list of candidates…but damn, what a massive difference between him and Obama.

The fact that the DPRK refused our recent food shipment of over 300,000 tonnes and kicked out the international food aid distributors shows that this missile is going to fly. Not far maybe, but it’s going to launch.

The thought of Japan shooting this down is actually scarier than the thing getting close to Alaska, given the animosity between those two nations. The reaction from the DPRK could end up being more than just its usual odd and rather humorous press releases at KCNA (hosted in Japan, go figure). The dying state would almost certainly do something very brash and of course also release the usual flood of stories about floral baskets being delivered to Kim Il Sung for his latest heroic deeds.

And then…they’d want our food again as part of the deal to back down.

280 Arbalest  Thu, Mar 26, 2009 6:51:56pm

Let’s start a pool: how will The One Telepropterus Maximus respond to the challenge of Kim the Well-Fed?

I think a strike on the launch pad is a good choice, but there are several other NK government and military targets that should be napalmed as well. Is Obama up to this level of action?

One obvious thing to do, no matter what, is put a clamp the NK bank accounts. This was one of the few things that Kim really wanted us to lighten up on, since he uses these accounts to launder counterfeit US currency, and move drugs and nuclear technology.

Will Obama think of this action, will he take this action, and when? It’s simply a decision and order on his part.

Then there’s the possibility of quarantining North Korean shipping. Grab the NK ships outside of Kim’s reach, and thoroughly investigate everyone they’ve done business with. Stop and search all going in or out of NK ports. What will we find on these ships?

The scary thing is that Obama and friends may really feel that no action need be taken until the US is hit.

While there are many Leftists in Seattle, San Francisco, Berkeley, Marin, and other places on the West Coast that could benefit from experiencing the suffering and martyrdom they adore (but always for others), there are very many others who deserve better.

But if we are hit, and at this point is would be clearly because Obama failed to act, would this be an impeachable act?

Could we also include Pelosi and Reid?

Wiley Coyote and the ACME corporation have been hired by Mr. TOTUS, as a tired and punch-drunk Obambi described it, ‘to blow some crap up up there.’ It seems a giant rubber band, a huge bow and a rubber-tipped massive arrow are the instruments of impending doom chosen by Wiley. The Road Runner has been asked not to interfere with the mission by running really fast back and forth while Wiley is concentrating on wind-age and trajectory calculations. The slightest error in WC’s calculations could spell doom for the moon.

re: #53 Cognito

North Korea has made a major miscalculation, here. They think America will continue on waging war the expensive way. But we’re broke. And so we might wage it the cheap way.

I feel for the actual citizens of the place, starving while their mad (and possibly dead) leader carries on this idiocy.

Yes, I hope all our enemies understand that being kind to civilians is expensive and blowing up things is cheap. That’s what makes me so sad about the horrible slanders about the Israeli military. They go far out of their way to be kind to civilians, and all they get are fake reports and blood libels against them (witness the most recent lies printed in the NYTimes, etc.). It would be so much easier and cheaper just to blow things up.

That’s what the enemies of civilization want, because they are evil. Most “human rights” organizations fall into this category, including the International Red Cross, I’m sad to say.

re: #111 Russkilitlover

When you’re clueless and the whole world sees it, the shit comes flying at you fast and furious. It’s what we get with a neophyte, naive, narcissistic ninny in the White House.

I don’t feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for America.

It’s too bad for all of us when a clearly uneducated, uninformed, clueless sociopath like Obama believes that he has the skills needed to defend the United States, and millions of stupid Americans vote for him because he appeals to them on a visual level (like a TV character).

We’ll all suffer because so many Americans are dunderheads who should have known better, but didn’t want to do their research.

re: #135 lostlakehiker

Good point. I always thought Bush kept a lot of things secret, and that’s how he managed to defend us all the years he was in office. Even though I like to rant about what I would do if I were in office, if I actually were in office, I would say nothing.

Wait a minute. What about getting UN approval and congressional approval and of course the mandatory note from your mother…….
You know, the kind of hoops that a Republican would be expected to jump through.

Don’t forget N Korea’s approval. We would not want to do anything that may upset the people of a legitimate sovereign government.

Kill the bird on the pad or as soon as it fires up. They must not know if they’ve learned anything since the last time for if they have export of the technology to Iran will soon follow.

If necessary blame the destruction on the Sudanese working with the Islamic Republic of Somalia. to bring the religion of peace to Dear Leader Land.

What I’m interested in is China. North Korea is China’s bitch thug, when they want to stir up trouble they let them do it while they sit back wringing their hands and pretending they have no power. I’m quite sure that if China did not want the North Koreans to do a missile launch it wouldn’t be happening. Everyone focuses on the sock puppet, Kim Jong (Mentally) Ill’s regime and no one thinks about the Chicom hand inside the puppet.

The Chicoms have plans, their military budget keeps growing and I believe they will eventually move against Taiwan. I’m quite sure if we strike the launch facility they will use it as an excuse to increase their build up and take a more aggressive overall stand. I think those who say let Japan shoot the missile down are right, that’s the best option in a difficult and potentially unpredictable situation.

Let’s not forget too that launching missile strikes was a favorite tactic of the Clintonistas. How well did that strategy work? Not very well, if I recall correctly.

There is no need for violence. The “One” can simply talk the missile into falling harmlessly into the sea. Then, he can tell Sec. Clinton to give the North Koreans a stern warning and a few billion barrels of oil to teach them a lesson. If all else fails, send Maddie Albright over to was the dear leader’s car. That will show them.
