Our education system will remain a shambles as long as we have batshit crazy people like this running it. I want my country back and it starts with getting our schools back.

The left gets a pass on a terrorist speaking at a high school, but if that same school had Ann Coulter, Dinesh D'Souza, Rush, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin or Michael Savage, the entire city would be shut down by protests of these supposedly tolerant liberals.

While we firmly believe in exposing students to a wide variety of speakers and opinions, offering them the chance to experience different viewpoints and the opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills (one of the tenants of our mission), please know that we would never invite anyone who advocates violence.

As if indroctrination infuses critical thinking skills.

28 Sharmuta  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:22:11am

From the Superintendent:

While we firmly believe in exposing students to a wide variety of speakers and opinions, offering them the chance to experience different viewpoints and the opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills (one of the tenants of our mission), please know that we would never invite anyone who advocates violence. Our understanding is that Bill Ayers does not, although this point is being actively debated by several who have contacted us. In addition, administrators from other school districts who have heard his presentation to students, have indicated that Ayers focuses on students being involved in social justice.

Given the interest this has stirred in the community, and the strong emotion and anger that is being expressed, we are currently reviewing this decision and are also exploring options for changing the venue. For those who have expressed concern over funding this, it should be noted that Dr. Ayers was never being paid for this visit.

First- I don't know how anyone can say this man doesn't advocate violence. He's a fucking terrorist!

Second- these people are clueless if they think that funding is just paying a speaker. What about the tax dollars being wasted by giving this man a platform and yanking kids out of their proper classes to listen to him?

Shame on these people. SHAME!

It is a public school. I don't see why the public cannot offer it's opinion. Politely.

30 quickjustice  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:23:29am

Unfortunately, Ayers is more dangerous as a radical Professor of Education then he ever was as a domestic terrorist. He's poisoned many more young minds doing his "professor" jive talk, as the election of Obama demonstrates.

I love the part too about him focusing "on students being involved in social justice". How, by blowing stuff and people up? By reveling in Manson murdering people? By standing on the flag? ARRRGGHHH!

35 Steve Rogers  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:24:33am

I wonder if he will have to go through a metal detector like the kids at many high schools? Or will he get a free pass on it like the media has given him a free pass?

36 No. Just, no.  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:24:33am

There's something weirdly ironic about authorities inviting a speaker who has made a point of targeting authorities.

This is Naperville, not some seething inner-city bastion of injustice where the oppressed shall rise up and break their chains. These kids' chains are made of gold and have diamonds hanging off of them. These are the very people that revolutionaries kill in other countries.

But, oh, yes, Bill Ayers is one of them. He always has been. Wealthy, wacko, liberal, hating the very system that makes his life easy and feeds him.

(Full disclosure: My parents lived there 1971-1973. My brother was born in Naperville.)

"Social justice" is the practice of using the threat of violence to achieve a goal.
The government will forcibly take from those who have something and give it to those who don't, so that some third party's abstract idea of 'justice' is served.

"Social justice" requires violence.

53 Sharmuta  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:29:56am

Ayers spoke at our local high school about 2 months ago. Parents were not invited to attend. Draw your own conclusions.

While formal press releases of the speaking engagement were not sent, the event was publicized in the school for students to attend. However, some family members of students attended, though it was not publicized as open to the public.

58 FurryOldGuyJeans  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:32:12am

2 Simple points,

Mr. Ayers does not advocate violence? Mr. Ayers has gone several steps beyond advocating, and has perpetrated extreme violence. He proudly admits it.

Mr. Ayers focuses on involvement in social justice? Mr. Ayers brand of social justice, as indicated by his actions referred to above, have no place in American society at all, never mind in our children's classrooms as an invited and warmly received guest, and not as the cold blooded, murderous terrorist he is in reality.
For these people to simply ignore such a well documented monster is a sham no one is even bothering to try to hide. It is despicable. This man should be shunned everywhere he goes, even when he goes to buy a gallon of milk.

Here's the link to Sol Stern's article about how much damage Ayers has done to American education as a radical Professor of Education:

[Link: www.city-journal.org...]

Indeed, the education department at the University of Illinois is a hotbed for the radical education professoriate. As Ayers puts it in one of his course descriptions, prospective K–12 teachers need to “be aware of the social and moral universe we inhabit and . . . be a teacher capable of hope and struggle, outrage and action, a teacher teaching for social justice and liberation.” Ayers’s texts on the imperative of social-justice teaching are among the most popular works in the syllabi of the nation’s ed schools and teacher-training institutes. One of Ayers’s major themes is that the American public school system is nothing but a reflection of capitalist hegemony. Thus, the mission of all progressive teachers is to take back the classrooms and turn them into laboratories of revolutionary change.

Motherfucker forgot to mention anything about teaching English or Math or History. Just a small oversight.

96 Boxy_brown  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 10:42:14am

I just went through some of the links to the story. I can't believe these people aren't in an institution for the criminally insane much less in positions to influence educational policy. This country has lost it's mind.

"Bernadine Dohrn at a 1969 "War Council" in Flint, Michigan, Dohrn gave her most memorable and notorious speech to her followers. Holding her fingers in what became the Weatherman "fork salute," she said of the bloody murders recently committed by the Manson Family in which the pregnant actress Sharon Tate and a Folgers Coffee heiress and several other inhabitants of a Benedict Canyon mansion were brutally stabbed to death: "Dig it! First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them. They even shoved a fork into the victim's stomach! Wild! "

Man... Really... It belongs in a straight jacket not a teaching position.

I sat thru his speech at St. Mary's - SF Bay Area - late Jan protest. He is articulate and smooth delivering a thinly veiled justification and whitewash of his former activities. To those unaware of the reality of his former actions - it is easy to see the young minds get sucked in.

Getting involved locally with the schools might spread to other areas. We can't keep sitting back wondering how to stop this. Time to roll up the sleeves and jump into the fray.

"There's something about a good bomb … Night after night, day after day, each majestic scene I witnessed was so terrible and so unexpected that no city would ever again stand innocently fixed in my mind. Big buildings and wide streets, cement and steel were no longer permanent. They, too, were fragile and destructible. A torch, a bomb, a strong enough wind, and they, too, would come undone or get knocked down."

From the Superintendent:
First- I don't know how anyone can say this man doesn't advocate violence. He's a fucking terrorist!
Second- these people are clueless if they think that funding is just paying a speaker. What about the tax dollars being wasted by giving this man a platform and yanking kids out of their proper classes to listen to him?
Shame on these people. SHAME!

Ah, but the superintendent said a wide variety of speakers: terrorists, communists, and enviro-nazis--anyone, in fact, to the left of the mainstream.

The reason that the communists won in the former USA is their commitment to personal destruction of their political opponents. While conservatives tend to be individualists, communists have a political religion that requires coordinated activism.

For example, if we were like them, we would first identify him as our personal, hated enemy: we would dig up everything about him and feed it to special interest groups on our side--we would harass his friends and do everything in our power to have him fired. News articles would appear daily about an affair he might have had with a teacher 20 years ago, his "reckless" spending on office furniture for himself (a leather chair), or his authoritarian treatment of an incident with a student, and so on. We would label him as the "controversial" superintendent and try to embarrass the school board for appointing him.

After he is fired, we would follow up to make sure that he cannot get another job in education. Then, we would focus on our next enemy.

Organizing conservatives is like herding cats, plus they are typically too busy enjoying their own lives than to care about screwing up everyone else's lives. So, the political piranhas win. And they feel so self-righteous!

Obama order worries speech groups

Free speech advocates from across the political spectrum are accusing President Barack Obama of impinging on First Amendment rights and are gearing up to take their case public.

At issue is an unprecedented directive that Obama — who has long railed against lobbyists as the personification of a corrupt Washington culture — issued last week barring officials charged with doling out stimulus funds from talking to registered lobbyists about specific projects or applicants for stimulus cash.

When you click the provided link to the whitehouse.gov "unprecedented directive", it's now been removed , with this in its place:

BTW, for all y'all who haven't yet e-mailed the board on this matter, Charles link has an item by our own LGFer Last Mohican, who gave out the e-mail addresses to all of the board members to whom I sent the following letter (just in case some of you need some ideas as to what to say)

Dear Board Members: I am writing to you concerning your invitation to Mr. William ("Bill") Ayers to speak at your school.
I'm certain that others have written to you concerning this matter and wish to take as little of your time as is necessary. Mr. Ayers has indeed written and discussed a number of articles and works concerning scholastic and academic matters. But the fact remains that he and his wife, Ms. Bernadine Dhorn were founding members of the SDS/Student Weather Underground. During that time period they set off several bombs and led others to do the same. They originally stated that they did this to protest the war in Vietnam, but a bomb set off after the war was over, killed one policeman and blinded another. Mr. Ayer's then girlfriend, now wife, was tried for that murder and intent to commit murder but was acquited apparently because the only evidence against her (which, according to police accurately stated where the bomb was placed, how it was made (with gasoline and NAILS AND OTHER PIECE OF METAL - SHRAPNEL). Moreover, they adopted the child of one of their fellow criminals, Ms. Kathy Boudin who was convicted of the felony murder of one NY police officer and one Brinks Armored Car guard, which such killing was done in 1981, more than six years after the war in Vietnam ended.
Given the opportunity to repent Mr. Ayers has said, on more than one occasion, that he wished that they had done more bombing. Nor were their bombs merely an attempt to destroy property, as they all contained pieces of metal, intended to be used against people - commonly called shrapnel.
I think merely having Mr. Ayers at your High School, will simply send the wrong message to your students.
Thank you for you time and consideration,
Very Truly Yours,

I did sign my real name, not realwest.

California will be OK. Just about the entire city of Oakland shut down yesterday to honor those cops.

Good to hear. I know a killer at large (black guy who killed a white guy) here in Baltimore a while back was cornered hiding in the city, in a largely black area. He expected the public to stick up for him, but he was wrong. Not only was he turned in - everyone turned out on the street as he was taken away to seriously tell him, loudly, what a pathetic excuse for a human he was.

He has that same attitude towards everything, imho. That's his core - his heart. Everything is a target to be gamed. Buildings, our school system, people, women, the public, stupid school boards, politicians, etc.

He is full of hate at life and the world. Deep-rooted hate. Especially at America, the country that gave him privilege, and yet he responds by being utterly vile and contemptuous:

"What a country," he said (in a 2001 interview). "It makes me want to puke."

The school explains:

In addition, administrators from other school districts who have heard his presentation to students, have indicated that Ayers focuses on students being involved in social justice.

And what exactly does he mean by social justice?

Wikipedia offers a dispassionate article.

The term "social justice" is often employed by the political left to describe a society with a greater degree of economic egalitarianism, which may be achieved through progressive taxation, income redistribution, or even property redistribution, policies aimed toward achieving that which developmental economists refer to as equality of opportunity and equality of outcome.

But what did Ayers have in mind? Ah, let's go to the hadith and the sirrah. What is the record of his life, which will help to clarify what those words mean for him?

Boom! Kaboom!

Thank you for the clarification, Mr. Ayers. Deeds speak louder than words. Social justice means killing your political enemies. It means bombs in the dark of the night when you're out of power, speaking engagements at high schools when you're advancing your cause by that means, and knocks on the door in the dark of night once you win.

I just don't understand how anyone can look at what happened in Russia, in China, in Cambodia, in Vietnam, in Eastern Europe, (they can at least blame Cuba on the sanctions), and still believe that a collectivist economy/government is anything but a disaster.

It's like a chemistry experiment. It's killed three students. Let's try it again. Must have been something wrong with the students.

Ah, but communism did not fail the Russians, the Russians failed communism!

Our own American communists now in power are convinced that they can do a better job here. And it just has to work! And if it doesn't, then it will have been sabotaged by reactionary elements: greedy business owners, wacko conservatives, and misguided homeschoolers who all need to be re-educated.

Oh, and it's worth noting that if Ayers had been concerned to push equality of outcome, he might have exerted himself at the Annenberg project to improve test scores for students in the schools he had influence over. At that post, he had some leverage. He could have evened up the outcomes somewhat by improving the educational outcomes in the schools his project was supposedly trying to help. Those schools aren't destined to failure. Better teaching, if it would ever happen, could make a difference. Better methods, if they would be adopted, could improve results even if the teachers were no more perceptive and talented.

By the record of his life work, Ayers doesn't give a damn about increasing equality of outcome by lifting up the bottom.

The fact that they could get deferments for going to Vietnam for going to college kept many leftists/cowards in college. (perpetual protest academy) After they stayed in academia for so long it was just natural that they remain there... regurgitating their indoctrination BS.

Indeed. Academia is such an artificial, protected environment.

However, I have heard several stories (I don't know whether they are true), about a professor who agrees under pressure by his socialism-indoctrinated students that each will get a grade based on the class average. The higher-scoring students get "taxed" on their points to pay for their more unfortunate classmates. The result, the story goes, is that by the end of the semester, the entire class flunks.

Anyone know whether there's any truth to this story? If not, it would be an interesting experiment.

In all seriousness, the Right need to jump on this shit and beat it to death. It isn't just Che, or Castro, or Manson, or Sirhan, or Bill Ayers and his Manson groupie wannabe wife. Mass murderers are all the rage for the Left, and the Media (who think pretty highly of mass murderers themselves) are more than happy to let them walk on it.

The Republicans need to really start fighting again. Not that they were ever anywhere near the league of partisanship displayed by the Democrats. I'm damn tired of "bipartisanship" meaning that the Democrats dictate what they want, and the Republicans roll over and give it to them without demanding anything in Return. The Best they get from the Democrats boils down to "we'll not rape you as hard as we would have if you resisted" bullshit from the Democrats.

It is way past time to quit acting like the token opposition, and start showing real leadership. That is the real path back to a majority, and to being a successful majority once we get there.

Some visit Pol Pot's grave looking for luck

He was one of the greatest mass killers of the 20th century, but that doesn't stop the hopeful from praying at Pol Pot's hillside grave for lucky lottery numbers, job promotions and beautiful brides.

Nor does it stop tourists from picking clean the bones and ashes from the Khmer Rouge leader's burial ground in this remote town in northwestern Cambodia.

The grave is among a slew of Khmer Rouge landmarks in Anlong Veng, where the movement's guerrillas made their last stand in 1998 just as Pol Pot lay dying. A $1 million tourism master plan is being finalized to preserve and protect 15 of the sites, and charge admission.

Included on the tour will be the houses and hideouts of the Khmer Rouge leaders, an execution site and places associated with Ta Mok, a brutal commander and Anlong Veng's last boss.

Commies using capitalism to make money... And glorifying a mass murderer- lovely.

How TOTALLY obtuse can one person be? The history of Ayers is bathed in blood and death, of ferocious anti-Americanism and a total sellout to communism and everything anti-US on this planet.

Are these REALLY the viewpoints that we want our children exposed to in High School? If I were a parent with children in Naperville High, I would be yanking them out immediately, no if ands or buts AND then I'd be looking for the supers resignation, immediately!

Enough is enough.

p.s. In a perfect world, Ayers would already be in jail or even better, deported to some 3rd world communist hell-hole, along WITH Dohrn..

Poor tennants of Marxism living in housing projects around me and in Washington, DC--they get subjected to so-called teachers whose methods are similar to Ayers, without the trust fund terrorist background.

I've volunteered in some of the poorest schools in Washington DC and it killed me to think those cherubic little children would be taught to hate & "rage at the man" instead of being taught to love learning and service to others in higher causes than revenge or greed.

re: #62 LGoPs

I'm familiar with Naperville. It's about 25 miles west of downtown Chicago. Ayers can drive to this speaking engagement.

It's a older suburb that's grown rapidly over the last 30 years, to the point that some of it is outside DuPage county. Since the early 80's it's been a big transferee town, very yuppie. In spite of the older downtown, there's been a lot of new construction since 1980, since most of the suburbs in the county had been built out long before. Most of the folks there did not grow up there. DuPage County is not as Repub as it used to be, either.

City population is over 110,000. The town has two K-12 school districts, and Naperville North is only one of 3-4 high schools serving the suburb.

So half the town is probably glad that THEIR school district doesn't have this hubbub on its hands.

* * * *That is the PRIME of Miss Jean Brodie.
You're right, where would you find such teachers today?

Yes, I stand corrected. Miss Jean Brodie was indeed in her "prime." Sadly, many teachers and professors feel a moral mandate to indoctrinate their students. This mission was central to John Dewey's education philosophy:

I believe it is the business of every one interested in education to insist upon the school as the primary and most effective instrument of social progress and reform in order that society may be awakened to realize what the school stands for, and aroused to the necessity of endowing the educator with sufficient equipment properly to perform his task.

I believe, finally, that the teacher is engaged, not simply in the training of individuals, but in the formation of the proper social life.

(Quoted from [Link: dewey.pragmatism.org...]

"The teacher is the new missionary – it is his job to spread the new gospel of Humanism to the children." - John Dewey, 1938.

I understand that it was one of John Dewey's disciples who destroyed Maria Montessori's reputation in the US. She actually wanted to help poor children learn rather than creating an army of socialists.

Thanks for posting this. I am a Naperville North grad and am absolutely appauled by this revelation. It isn't shocking, though. "Social justice" is the practice of using the threat of violence to achieve a goal.

"Social justice" requires violence.

Thanks, I found Adams' satirical piece on grading. It's too humane though. If I was a student at the school and was forced to attend I woouls stad with my back to it.

301 nfbjude14  Sat, Mar 28, 2009 5:50:58pm

Some more updates on this issue:

1. Attendance of the event must be preceded by a signed parent permission form

2. The topics of discussion: A: His time with Weather Underground; B: His "notiriety" C: the "small-schools movement," which seeks to replace sprawling city schools with small, student-centered facilities.

3. Only students who have pertinent 8th grade classes that relate to one of the three topics are allowed to attend.

This is being put on by Kermit Eby, who has been a teacher at the school for years. He was there when I was a student, and he's extremely liberal. Such topics as these were his forte, and it's surprising at all to see this occur from him.

Here's the article from the Trib: [Link: www.chicagotribune.com...]

I'm glad it's not open to the entire school, because it has absolutely no bearing on the educational process, aside from the small schools discussion. Instead, this seems like a platform for Ayers to continue his attempt at "clearing his name".

I agree that as a society we cannot tolerate violent change. We must always seek the peaceful resolution. That aspect seems to be the general theme of everyone's concern.

This is my email to the high school principal and school board:

I read with disgust that your high school, and school board, have agreed to invite domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, to speak to your student body. You state that you "would never invite anyone who advocates violence". Are you simply unaware of who this person is? He was a co-founder of the Weather Underground whose violent acts were well known in the 1960's and 70's. Whether or not he now advocates violence is not the issue. Police and court records show that he did advocate, plan and participate in violence against the legal authorities. The public record also shows that he continues to be unrepentant as to those acts and his current hatred for the United States is well documented. It is precisely those views that give him his current notoriety.

I sincerely hope that you will reconsider giving a public platform to any persons who have made careers out of hatred and violence against their own country and countrymen.

I'm betting that Bill Ayers will need to reschecule.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't want most of that group at my kids' school either.

Now, I would pay good money to see Michael Savage and Bill Ayers in a cage match. Can it be arranged?

313 Beller0ph1  Sun, Mar 29, 2009 10:39:32am

Thought I would post my e-mail and a response from one of the board members:

Me:

To the Members of the Naperville Board of Education:

I could not believe my eyes when I read that unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers would be speaking to the kids at Naperville North High School. His list of "accomplishments" is long and offensive. Not only does advocate the murder of millions of Americans, he preaches the internment of millions more. Why would you offer to present a "man" to the kids in the spirit of "Free Speech" and "presenting different opinions" who wants to remove the rights that we all hold dear as Americans? This man goes against everything that our country was founded on: life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. His group, the Weather Underground, murdered fine members of the San Francisco PD. I request that his invitation to speak is rescinded.

Mr. Terry Fielden's response:
