Bill Ayers High School Speech on ‘Social Justice’ Canceled

US News • Views: 6,000

As we noted a few days ago, former Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers was invited to speak to Illinois high school students on the topic of “social justice.”

Today LGF reader “realwest” shared an email he received with some good news on this subject:

Thank you very much for your e-mail regarding Ayers visit to Naperville North High School. I too have been concerned about this event since learning of it last week, and have been working on it since. I want to advise you that this event has been canceled. A formal announcement will follow later today via Talk 203.

The fact is that you posted a link in which Last Mohican provided e-mail addresses for the Board. The rest of us did what needed to be done.

Somewhere in the community of Naperville is a person with some great life experience, some important historical perspective, some fabulous talent, some stories to tell about actual genuine service to his/her fellow human beings.

I hope they find that person and have that person speak to the students.

I guess ayers isn't quite that high on the lecture circuit when his gig are in High Schools! LOL and they send him packing. I seriously wish he would get what he has coming. Not necessarily jail time, though I would certainly like that . . . and he deserves it, but I would like to see him publicly castigated, humiliated, unemployed, broke and then thrown aside and ignored until death . . . preferably alone on a park bench in Nome.

On the downside, while Ayers may not be addressing the students of one high school on one day, the notions and curricula promulgated by him and by those he has taught at the university level are alive and active at tens, if not hundreds, of high schools every day across the nation.

This is where the left is winning the ground war.

That is the key point here. Too bad we can't get a journalistic expose of this vile POS and show the American people the kind of poison he's pushing into American kids' heads. Be nice if parents started becoming aware of the fact that rather than prepare kids academically for a competitive chance at a good future by teaching actual subjects competently, the focus is on brainwashing them into becoming good littel socialist foot soldiers.

Tragically, I don't remember any such speakers in high school. They did take some of us to a "Women in Science" banquet, where they explained to us the workings of an electron microscope. My poor little brain nearly exploded, trying to keep up.

Any time a word like "justice" is modified--as in "social justice"--it is intended to look like an intensifier, but is actually an example of gutting the thing being modified. Their idea of "justice" is everyone crossing the finish line at the same time. And that always means punishing the fast and giving the slow advantages.

For sane people, justice means everyone starts the race on the same line, runs the same distance, and has the same amount of time.

Equal outcome /= equal opportunity

I got a reply to my e-mail as well, they had this to say re: Dr Ayers

...a well-regarded, award-winning teacher who encourages students to think for themselves.

And if you don't agree with him, he will blow you up with a pipe bomb. I didn't tell them that, of course, i responded with a TYVM and a suggestion they read Prairie Fire...

Good to know that Obama's election didn't excuse Ayers in any way....surprised, but good to know...

I see no reason why we should give Ayers or Galloway a platform on which to speak. This is a far cry from letting them speak their minds. They are welcome to declare their love for terrorism/terrorists. We just shouldn't be encouraging them.
Just my thoughts.

If there was real "social justice" Bill Ayers would be residing in a prison cell.

Too nice. I'm thinking mosquito infested swamp.

The two speakers that I remember the best:

Middle school-- they brought in a Shoah survivor.

College-- I went to a talk by the Candy Bomber of Berlin.

Tragically, I don't remember any such speakers in high school. They did take some of us to a "Women in Science" banquet, where they explained to us the workings of an electron microscope. My poor little brain nearly exploded, trying to keep up.

In grad school, I got to hear a talk by one of the men who was involved in project of evacuating Denmark's Jews to Sweden during the war.

That was an incredible honor.

As I said on another thread, Ayers is far more dangerous as a radical, respected professor of education than he ever was as a domestic terrorist.

Here's why: [Link: www.city-journal.org...]

re: #103 Anna D

By the way, does anyone know if Ayers and his equally wretched wife have children? In the 60's, they urged college students to kill their parents. I'm just wondering if they have any progeny of their own? It would make sense for them not to, under the circumstances. Why spawn someone who might listen to what you say and, well, never mind....
Just kidding...

Chesa Boudin (youngest of 3) was adopted by Ayers and Dohrn soon after his parents, Kathy Boudine and David Gilbert, were arrested for their part in a Brinks heist in 1981 in NY that left a guard and 2 policemen dead.

This was shortly after Ayers & Dohrn abandoned their Underground lifestyle. They already had 2 todlers at the time.

Much more info here: AMBUSH: THE BRINKS ROBBERY OF 1981 - part1 of 16. It starts with the NY townhouse explosion of 06 March 1970.

Chesa Boudin here (center), translates for Ayers as he talks about education etc in Venezuela.

Now, if we could get him and his wife marginalized, ridiculed and mocked so they feel the need to disappear for good. Respected teacher? I wonder who respects tools like them.

123 kynna  Mon, Mar 30, 2009 3:28:30pm

So will those who invited this scumbag to speak to children be called on the carpet for it? Doubtful.

Good news, anyway. I'll take it. ;p

Here is what they sent to me.

Thank you for writing.

Such a controversial issue involves a problem about which different individuals and groups urge conflicting courses of action. It is an issue for which society has not found a solution that can be universally or almost universally accepted. It is an issue of sufficient significance that each of the proposed ways of dealing with it is objectionable to some sector of the citizenry and arouses protest.

The following message from our Superintendent, Dr. Alan Leis, was sent via email to our community through Talk 203 and is also posted on our District 203 website.

“The appearance by Dr. Bill Ayers at Naperville North High School next week has been canceled.

On Friday, it was announced through a Talk203 email that we were reviewing the decision to invite him and that we were also exploring the possibility of moving the appearance to another venue. Initially, many people were upset about his appearance in a school building, even though it was to have been with a select group of students with required parental permission. Several people offered worthy suggestions about how to make the event more meaningful by concurrently inviting someone that would provide an equally strong opposing viewpoint.

Over the weekend, however, it became clear that this issue was not really about where Dr. Ayers was speaking, but that he was speaking at all. Each day, the level of emotion and outrage has seemed to increase, along with the number of emails and phone calls received. What was most unfortunate was that a few directed their anger toward an outstanding high school and at a well-regarded, award-winning teacher who encourages students to think for themselves.

While parents and others have written urging us to continue with the event because they want students exposed to diverse viewpoints, Dr. Ayers’ appearance has clearly become a “lightning rod,” both inside and outside the District 203 community, because of his past actions. It is clear that any value to our students would be lost in such a highly-charged atmosphere, and that any debate of issues or viewpoints would be overshadowed by media coverage and anger over the event itself.”

Ross Truemper. Principal
Naperville North High School

Here's my original letter to him.

To: Ross Truemper
Subject: Bill Ayers

Dear Mr. Truemper:

I am writing to let you know what a serious mistake I believe you are making by inviting a self-confessed terrorist to address impressionable students.

I don't know how old you are but I well remember being a college student during the days when Bill Ayers was one of the outspoken leaders of domestic anarchy and violence. For anyone to say that he represents "social justice" is Orwellian.

This invitation is a blot on the Naperville School District and, if not rescinded, will haunt everyone associated with it.

I hope you will have the courage to lead your school out of this bad decision.

Yours truly,

130 Pupdawg  Tue, Mar 31, 2009 6:11:33am

...speaking of justice, that's a rare and most welcome glimpse of it.

131 NelsFree  Tue, Mar 31, 2009 6:58:12am

re: #126 Bobibutu

I received the same email. Here is what I wrote back:

Thank you for your thoughtful and courteous reply. I am glad that Bill Ayers will not be allowed to influence the impressionable youth at your school. This Country of ours, the Best Country on Earth, is not helped by people like him.
You also mentioned Diversity in your email. May I ask you to consider: what is the opposite of Diversity? Could you come up with an antonym for Diversity?
I can. The opposite of Diversity is Assimilation. Think about it.

132 BethesdaDog  Thu, Apr 2, 2009 1:18:21am

Although I don't live there I sent an email to each school board member with that old picture of Ayers' mug shot, then the pictures of the two officers killed in New York, and then a third picture of the ambulance outside the armored car that was attacked, killing the driver.

I think they got the message.
