Charles is obsessed with music.

And I don’t mind one bit.

Didn’t Ry do the sound track for the movie Crossroad?

Hackers is on tonite. As I remember that was a fun movie. SciFi Channel has a new called Furnace. SciFi is reliably hokie. Great for pizza and beer. I am no longer allowed to voice my opinion on the science in my household. But I still watch.

I think Charles likes all Music. Music being the operative word.

13 Kosh's Shadow  Sat, Apr 4, 2009 7:12:48pm

Well, since it is a music thread, here’s a song parody:

Money for Nothing.
(Apologies to Dire Straits, but that’s kind of appropriate, because we might end up in them)

Now look at them politicians, that’s the way you do it
You make the speeches on the TV
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and chicks for free
Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain’t dumb
Maybe get a paper cut on your little finger
Maybe get a paper cut on your thumb

We gotta get our welfare checks
Gotta get our free health care
We gotta get it, what the heck
We smell change in the air

See the little faggot with name of Barney Frank
Yeah buddy he always gets a pass
That little faggot screwed the country’s banks
That little faggot he got them up the ass

We gotta get our welfare checks
Gotta get our free health care
We gotta get it, what the heck
We smell change in the air

I shoulda learned to bullshit the masses
I shoulda learned to play them bums
Just get my face, get it stickin in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And hes up there, whats that? Marxist noises?
Beatin’ on the bankers like a communist
That aint workin’ that’s the way you do it
Get your money for nothin’ get your chicks for free

We gotta get our welfare checks
Gotta get our free health care
We gotta get it, what the heck
We smell change in the air

Now look at them politicians, that’s the way you do it
You make the speeches on the TV
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and chicks for free
Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin and chicks for free

27 albusteve  Sat, Apr 4, 2009 7:20:05pm

Ry Cooder is an American treasure…he is not at about himself…he goes out and digs up all these lost riffs…Cuban, Mexican and all kinds of various stuff…gets these renowned but little known players and gets them on tape…tin pan, depression songs and old honkytonk music…not only is he a virtuoso but he studies and works to remember the anthology of all the great music there is to be had in this country….he deserves his own place in the frigging Smithsonian…good call Charles

Yep, he’s a treasure , fully agree, never got his real due. He’s art in it’s true meaning, just do it, never mind the market. Who cares? And yes if we would take art and culture serious, really serious he should be indicted in some kind of hall of fame.

North Korea ‘has launched rocket’

North Korea appears to have launched a rocket, reports from Japan and South Korea says.

It came a day after Pyongyang said that its preparations for the launch of a communications satellite were complete.

North Korea says it is pursuing peaceful space development, but its neighbours suspect the launch is a cover for a long-range missile test.

The US, Japan and South Korea have urged it repeatedly not to go ahead and warned of consequences if it does.

North Korea had said that the launch would happen between 4-8 April, during windows from 0200 to 0700 GMT.

“A short time ago a flying object appeared to have been launched from North Korea,” the Japanese government statement said.

The rocket appeared to have passed over Japan, the government said.
South Korean officials also confirmed that a rocket had been launched.

yes, I know, though it’s such a lonely experience being lauded by people who don’t get the background. I remember an evening at a club in Cologne, Germany with the Archie Shepp trio, spoke to Archie after the gig, money was great, he said, better than in the States, but he felt like being on the moon/mars, nobody speaking English…………..

When was this performance filmed? Ry Cooder looks like he’s about 35. I’m hoping he’s ageless, but he was 25 a long time ago. He’s in the same category with David Lindley and Joe Ely- totally authentic musicians who play what feels right and don’t worry much about who likes it.
