Pittsburgh Cop-Killer Was Conspiracy Nut and Member of Stormfront

US News • Views: 11,362

Yesterday we noted reports that Richard Poplawski, charged with murdering three police officers in Pittsburgh, was obsessed with the idea that Barack Obama wanted to take away his guns. Today more of Poplawski’s story is coming out, and it’s much worse than it first appeared.

Poplawski was a follower of conspiracy freak Alex Jones (recently promoted by Judge Andrew Napolitano on Fox News as “the great Alex Jones”), a member of the revolting neo-Nazi website Stormfront, and an antisemite who believed that Jews secretly control America.

Richard Andrew Poplawski was a young man convinced the nation was secretly controlled by a cabal that would eradicate freedom of speech, take away his guns and use the military to enslave the citizenry.

His online profile suggests someone at once lonely and seething. He wrote of burning the backs of both of his hands, the first time with a cigarette, the second time for symmetry. He subscribed to conspiracy theories and, by January 2007, was posting photographs of his tattoos on white supremacist Web site Stormfront. Among his ambitions: “to accumulate enough ‘I punched that [expletive] so hard’ stories to match my old man.”

“Crazy to me is going through the motions,” he wrote on his MySpace profile three years ago. “Crazy to me is letting each day slip past you. Crazy is being insignificant. Crazy is being obscure, pointless.”

No longer obscure, the 22-year-old is charged in the worst police shooting in the modern history of Pittsburgh. No one is calling his actions anything but pointless.

“He was really into politics and really into the First and Second amendment. One thing he feared was he feared the gun ban because he thought that was going to take away peoples’ right to defend themselves. He never spoke of going out to murder or to kill,” said Edward Perkovic, who described himself as Mr. Poplawski’s lifelong best friend.

Mr. Poplawski’s view of guns and personal freedom took a turn toward the fringes of American politics. With Mr. Perkovic, he appeared to share a belief that the government was controlled from unseen forces, that troops were being shipped home from the Mideast to police the citizenry here, and that Jews secretly ran the country.

Believing most media were covering up important events, Mr. Poplawski turned to a far-right conspiracy Web site run by Alex Jones, a self-described documentarian with roots going back to the extremist militia movement of the early 1990s.

Around the same time, he joined Florida-based Stormfront, which has long been a clearinghouse Web site for far-right groups. He posted photographs of his tattoo, an eagle spread across his chest.

“I was considering gettin’ life runes on the outside of my calfs,” he wrote. Life runes are a common symbol among white supremacists, notably followers of The National Alliance, a neo-Nazi group linked to an array of violent organizations.

He killed cops with his guns because he was afraid the gubmint was gonna take away his guns so he couldn't defend himself from criminals?

Now that's logical.

I don't know if I'd call it "much worse"... it would have been worse/scarier if it turned out he was NOT a fringe whacko, in a way.

Disgusting. At St Louis Lambert Field TSA had a guy hauled into an interrogation room when the guy was flying CONUS and not international. Missouri also had to pull back some documents calling Constitutionality's, Ron Paul supporters, etal potential domestic terrorists.

6 lawhawk  Sun, Apr 5, 2009 9:36:53am

So, will Fox and the other outlets that give Jones and his ilk an outlet to spread their nonsense continue to do so, or will they stop? /

Of course they will continue to provide Jones with an outlet to spread his odious views.

It shouldn't be all that surprising that a conspiracy nut also happened to run in the same circles as a Stormfronter, since they too are a conspiracy minded group that sees Jews controlling all aspects of life and that they're looking to purify the nation of those influences.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the slain cops killed in this heinous act.

The last time I went to a gun show there was a dealer selling World War Two memorabilia. This idiot had a Swastika banner taped to the wall behind him. All it would take is someone slipping video of that to one of the local stations to create a false impression that gun owners are closet Nazis.

Fox News is becoming everything the left has always said they were.

To be frank, the recent outbreak of mass shooting spans the ideological, ethnic and interpersonal spectrum.

One was a cop-hating criminal (Oakland)
One was an embittered immigrant (Binghamton)
One was a Stormfront nutjob (Pittsburgh)
One had personal psychological issues (Washington State)
...etc.

They may all be influencing each other, but the outbreak seems to be independent of ideology. The message is simply: Whatever your psychosis, express it by massacring everyone in the vicinity!

What really feeds this is our country's worship of fame, regardless of the reasons for the fame. I call this the "Ma, look, I'm on TV! syndrome" (as the loser is led away in handcuffs).

I attend "Crossroads of the West" shows on a regular basis and have never seen anything like that. The show promoters, good Mormon folk from Utah, don't like neo-nazi crap. People sell WWII memorabilia, including some German stuff, but huge Nazi flags on the wall? Nope.

Kilgore's link to his friend Eddie's MySpace page.

DOCUMENTS I RECCOMEND YOU READ BY GOOGLE: "Civil War II" by Tom Chittum "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" "The Turner Diaries" by Dr. William Pierce "Jewish Supremacy" by Dr. David Duke It Has Even Been Documented In The Communist Manifesto: "“We must realize that our party’s most powerful weapon is racial tension. "By propounding into the consciousness of the dark races that for centuries they have been oppressed by the whites, we can mold them to the program of the Communist Party. "In America we will aim for subtle victory. While inflaming the Negro minority against the whites, we will endeavour to instill in the whites a guilt complex for their exploitation of the Negros. "We will aid the Negros to rise to prominence in every walk of life, in the professions, and in the world of sports and entertainment. With this prestige, the Negro will be able to intermarry with the whites, and begin a process which will deliver America to our cause.” Statement by Israel Cohen, in his book, “A Racial Programme for the Twentieth Century,” 1912, which is also in the Congressional Record, Vol. 103, p. 8559, June 7th, 1957"

That's one of the challenges I have with FNC - a number of their commentators take MSNBC to task for pandering to the hard deranged left - yet they remain far less outspoken for those on FNC like Beck and Napolitano who pander to the conspiracy theorists on the hard right.

Unless FNC wakes up to this hypocrisy, they will legitimately be tainted by their association with those who celebrate Alex Jones and his ilk. And I don't think expressing that they provide commentators like Beck and Napolitano with the freedom to speak what they believe will fly. Irresponsible speech should always have repercussions.

There is a huge copy cat thing going on. These people like the blazing gun death deal.

There are plenty of places in the world where people could do a lot of good if they wanted to go down guns blazing. There are a lot of jihadists wasting oxygen and destroying lives in too many corners of the globe. But dying a lonely death in the Sudanese desert fighting the Janjaweed won't get you on the 6 O'Clock news.

People like Glenn Beck are inciting this kind of violence with their ranting about armed militias and revolution, and Fox News is incredibly irresponsible for letting him do it. The Napolitano webcast was absolutely insane.

Fox News is becoming everything the left has always said they were.

But at the same time, they allow more leftist wacko stuff on the air. That's not the kind of fair-but-"balanced" coverage anybody needs.

Fox has always been third-rate as a news organization, with occassional bursts of competence. Given that Murdoch now also owns WSJ, a first-class paper and improving recently, it's a little hard to understand.

But I have long watched their local Los Angeles morning show "news" show, just for entertainment, not for real news.

Yesterday I turned on the TV and Glenn Beck was on, with a huge backdrop showing Nazi film clips interspersed with clips of Barack Obama. This guy is way out of control.

Yep, and he and Fox drive the more moderate citizens to stock up on guns and ammo to protect against the Obama brown shirts.
There is some real hatred of Obama in certain segments of the population, and there is money to be made by inflaming it. The more popular Obama becomes with one segment, the more isolated and fearful the minority appears, and ripe for exploitation.

121 Taqiyyotomist  Sun, Apr 5, 2009 10:03:43am

CBS was using imagery from Nazi Germany last week, when the O was in Germany. They used quite a few different clips, too, as a backdrop for a story about why many from the region are wary of Obama's economic advice, which they say will lead to a period of hyperinflation, one of the things which they fear will lead, as before, to a new Dictator-ed era.

CBS.

My jaw hit the floor when I saw it.

122 Right mind left  Sun, Apr 5, 2009 10:04:00am

While I agree that Glenn Beck is a sensationalist, driven to get out the message that the government is out of control and needs to be stopped, the idea of this government heading toward (or explicitly being) fascism is not untrue - in an interview on PJTV with the head of the Ayn Rand Institute (I believe) they had the same discussion about the recent, excessive government's control over business behavior being specifically defined as fascist, not socialist.

The rapid changes and Obama's specific statements of intent to giving-away of the US fiscal rights to the IMF oversight committees is further deeply disturbing. Paired with the suggestions about the Cloward-Piven strategies and Soros' known ideologies, there are some things to voice loud concern over and too much of the society is frankly asleep still.

So, for Beck to get up and out there at least is bringing the debate alive. I do not condone the nutjobs and their violence. What I do hope is that enough people are made aware of the sweeping changes that are overcoming us, so there is potentially a way to stop the insanity.

Beck, when I heard him (and I do NOT watch enough of him to endorse him) was pressing for people to stand up, not partisan lined but ALL citizens AGAINST what is no longer a government by, of and for the people, protecting them individually...

Well, of course, it mocks Beck "for crying" -- does a segment on late night comics mocking Beck's crying...in other words, the Left simply uses Beck as "the rodeo clown" and takes that at face value. There's no real, honest, sincere, critique of what Beck is doing. So the Left's response to Beck is also problematic...

What?

He's 22 years old and the article says:

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks -- a day before Mr. Poplawski's birthday -- he decided to join the military, stopped going to classes and pursued a general educational development certificate.

"In boot camp he had missed his girlfriend so he had to make a decision ... he got himself dishonorably discharged so he could come back," Mr. Perkovic said.

According to Mr. Perkovic, Mr. Poplawski tossed a lunch tray at a drill instructor.

This doesn't say exactly WHEN after 9/11 he joined the military, but the way it's written can be misconstrued as occurring when he was 14.

When we devolve into belief in massive conspiracy theories, that the Jooooos, or any other cabal-like group, has absolute control over our lives, we look like fools.

That's the sort of myth that makes Beck and those like him seem believable. BHO has never suggested he wanted to eliminate private ownership of weapons. Even if you believed that to be true, the constitution protects you. No one is going to take your guns away. No need to run to your gun store and stock up, you'll be just fine.

Ronald Reagan came to the Student Union (1965; UCLA), and he said there’s no such thing as left or right; he said that’s the wrong way to look at it. He killed cops with his guns because he was afraid the gubmint was gonna take away his guns so he couldn't defend himself from criminals?

Now that's logical.

I don't know this person but I have followed the militias and their ilk since the early 1990s. His primary reason for owning guns was to protect himself from the government, not criminals.

Engaging in a gun fight with agents of the government, namely the police, is totally logical if you start with the correct premise.

Geithner May Oust Boards at Banks Needing ‘Exceptional’ Aid

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said he’s prepared to oust the senior management and boards of directors at banks that require “exceptional” assistance from the U.S. government.

“If in the future, banks need exceptional assistance in order to get through this, then we will make sure that assistance comes,” while making sure taxpayers are protected, Geithner said today in an interview on the CBS “Face the Nation” program. “Where that requires a change in management and the board, then we will do that.”

So much for shareholder rights.

On this whole Glenn Beck thing, I have to say that I was becoming a fan of his, admittedly without knowing all that much about him. However, recently he started a new website that I initially found intriguing, but when I began reading the blog section and saw some of the comments that were being allowed there I was very disappointed. Shareholders could be asked to approve the government deals - in fact, "should" be in all cases.

However, you know that shareholder rights for major corporations, are pretty much a joke and always have been. Takes a major takeover battle before they matter at all.

If shareholders had rights they could exercise, they'd be pursuing all the directors of the big finance firms for ten kinds of malfeasance.

Sad thing is, there IS a conspiracy... its just not the Zionist/Alien/FBI mind-control garbage that tin-foil wearing morons like Alex Jones would like us to believe.

The conspiracy is to carry out, under cover of Obama's "unifying and soaring" rhetoric and the Senate's wordy legalese, the agenda of international socialism. Some "conspiracy loons" have been warning us about this for decades. Problem is, the Lew Rockwells of the world threw in their white-power/FEMA/UFO bullshit and it ended up painting good people with the same brush. The Obama agenda is a series of endless ponzi schemes (for example: green jobs, carbon credits, etc.) which are clearly designed to weaken our country financially. Once that is accomplished, its much easier to weaken us in every other aspect.

When I hear Gordon Brown use terms like "new global architecture", I get chills! Is it not obvious that the subjugation of this country to a global body is the end goal? Is it not frightening how quickly these lunatics are making fantastics inroads to that goal? Will this country, this world even, be recognizable 10 years from now? Barack Obama is a cult of personality to a Western Civilization that immolates itself for the sins of its fathers. Nothing is more dangerous than this. It's wide-scale demagoguery to the nth degree.

The only thing that can stop this train is for the American people to take lawful direct action as is their legal right. Vote out representatives who support Obama. Take to the streets on tax day for peaceful protest. Make conversations HAPPEN about what's going on. It's far too late for politics to be something "too passionate" or "too personal" to discuss with friends and family. The average American, the average Westerner, does not understand: the trillions of dollars we have just borrowed against ourselves are designed to PLUMMET US INTO FINANCIAL SUBJUGATION. After that, everything else follows.

No "conspiracy theory" there. It's a cold fact. Listen to what the G20 leaders have been saying. Proofs in the pudding. Anytime you see that many world leaders smiling together, giving thumbs up, you know where those thumbs are headed. And you know at some point, your ass is gonna start to hurt.

Real bad.

/by law, only a shareholder vote or resignations can oust board members, that's a principle that needs to be protected not eroded

Glenn Beck, by the way, is also a very big booster of Ron Paul, and a creationist as well. In fact, Fox News is now giving Ron Paul more publicity than ever; he appears on several Fox shows, including Beck and Neil Cavuto.

C'mon, you can't actually think that these things are linked. Sure they are all things that you hold in disdain, but it is silly to throw in that he is a fan of these nut-cases... and a creationist!

I'm a believer in intelligent design, but that doesn't mean I know the method that God used. Let's try to stick on point.

I used to listen to Glenn, and enjoyed his radio show, but ever since the primaries he has gone off the deep end. When people start to associate themselves with the likes of Alex Jones (another Paulian) you know there is a disconnect with reality.

People like Glenn Beck are inciting this kind of violence with their ranting about armed militias and revolution, and Fox News is incredibly irresponsible for letting him do it. The Napolitano webcast was absolutely insane.

Fox News is becoming everything the left has always said they were.

I respectfully disagree. You should listen to Beck a little if you can stomoch it. He is not calling for armed militias or revolution. But he is worried we are heading to a point where things might get out of hand.

Glenn Beck and Fox did not create this vein of discontent. They just tapped into it.

There are many relatively rational people out there who worry Obama is taking us down the road to fascism. That does not mean Obama is Hitler or intends to build death camps. But his recent behavior with GM and the Bank CEOs makes him look more and more like Hugo Chavez 10 years ago.

When folks call into Beck's show and talk about black helicopters or ZOG or the Trilateral Commission routinely shoots them down. He has even taken time to debunk some of the crazier videos and theories posted online. Recently he took apart a rumor that a house bill was going to ban farms in peoples back yard.

It's better to have a Glenn Beck provide forum for those worried about the country moving to fascism then leaving the discussion to Stormfront and the other kooks in the militia movement.

POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surpirsed the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night stick, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people.

Amen.

Sure, but in many cases the board controls the votes anyway, and in most other cases, the majority of ownership is with proxies like mutual or retirement funds, or else they vote the shares held in street name. I own a few shares of this and that, and I seldom open up the packages or vote on anything.

re: #227 wong fei hung

Real bad.

These nutball memes are free-floating and attach to whoever takes office.

However, hatred in general is a preoccupation of the left, who tend to project it on the right. The MAINSTREAM left looks for hatred, worries about hatred, accuses anyone who disagrees of hatred, and denies they themselves ever hate. The right may hold some who hate, but they are few and marginal, not mainstream.

It is just barely possible that, for some period of time circa the 1950s, things were otherwise, and there was at least a stereotypical group among the right that was characterized by hate, at least of Communism. Justified, maybe, but even so. I'm thinking of the heyday of the John Birch Society.

But that was gone by the late 1960s, and any rational and objective view of the topic of hatred in the last twenty years, finds it predominantly on the left, the MAINSTREAM left. OK, it occurs to me, some of the anti-abortion or other religious extremists on the right, might give some reality to the left's accusations, but I assert that these are extremists and rare, and not any kind of mainstream group or influence on the right or Republicans.

... and then there's the ID issue that suggests that religious nutballism *has* penetrated to the mainstream of the Republican party, but that is still not hate - he said, hopefully.

Ron Paul with Neil Cavuto (and this is not the only time he's been on the show):

I agree with those who have already posted above; Cavuto should not be giving credibility to a person with Ron Paul's negatives. I have avoided reading or listening to Paul due to his negatives.

I must say that listening to him speak with Cavuto he made sense and was rational (in that clip only); if I didn't know his negatives I would have formed a favorable opinion of him. This actually makes it doubly disappointing Cavuto gives him the air time so Paul can connect with a populace who may not know his unacceptable negatives.

This only serves to associate rational conservative/libertarian talking points regarding fiscal discipline with the dangerous fringes and is most unhelpful. Some rational letters expressing the basis for disappointment need to be written to Cavuto so he doesn't (or his producers don't) make the mistake again.

I am appalled by both sides of the creationist/evolution debate. The only thing that I have ever asked for is a disclaimer. Make enough people lose their jobs so that inevitably a few will go nuts, then if some people go nuts, institute the lockdown? In March, 750,000 lost their jobs. What is 6 as a percentage of that? (Six being the number of people, if I'm counting correctly, who have lost their marbles in the last month and made the news with firearms.)

If it is hyped correctly...it will instill fear in the masses. I am having a hard time reconciling all the absurd decisions happening in Washington. "Generated crisis" is Biden's comment that echoes in my head regularly.

And, as a young reader of Ayn Rand, I have learned to check my premises. I keep checking and fear the ones that are wrong. These assumptions we make as rational Americans are inaccurate at best. I understand why the likes of Beck are going over the deep end - and where we need to clearly figure out what MUST be done.

This is where we need to gather great minds who have great ideas and consolidate them into legal proposals.

I have been thinking about this a lot. Rather than poking at all the insanity, we need to find legitimate solutions that are translated into Bills that can be signed on ballots and presented to our elected officials. Things like demanding the repeal of the CRA or voiding the TARP, modifying the mark-to-market, voiding the current budget...at this moment all these logical things are impossible and would be laughed at - just as the GOP's attempts to create sane budget plans - but there is increasing need for unity and sanity...

Good observation. I wonder whether their motivations weren't more of a desperate desire to communicate their frustration. No one seems to be listening, so they forcibly make themselves and their circumstances known.

The national stage is overcrowded with a variety of messages and agendas, so perhaps the solution is to facilitate more local/community interaction and try to reduce obsessive focus on national politics. I realize that this is not going to happen, that national causes and personalities have a strong incentive to expand and radicalize their supporters, so it seems like the some (new?) type of internet expression might be a better national forum.

That's more than a disclaimer. Pare it way down to just that some people don't believe it, or you invite the need to explain that those who don't "believe in evolution" are talkng about beliefs and not science, and are, for whatever their motivations, good or bad, self-imposed ignoramsuses and pretty much to be pitied.

Mecca mosques 'wrongly aligned'

Some 200 mosques in Islam's holiest city, Mecca, point the wrong way for prayers, reports from Saudi Arabia say.

All mosques have a niche showing the direction of the most sacred Islamic site, the Kaaba, an ancient cube-like building in Mecca's Grand Mosque.

But people looking down from recently built high-rises in Mecca found the niches in many older mosques were not pointing directly towards the Kaaba.

Some worshippers are said to be anxious about the validity of their prayers.

As an active Latter-day Saint I respectfully disagree. Teach science in science class and beliefs about creation at home, Sunday school and seminary. I have no trouble with my kids reconciling the two and understanding scientific proof and theory. We are not a hard creationist church any way and our beliefs do not agree with the scriptural literalists (whatever that means) who seek to push their agenda in the schools. The creationists Charles blogs about are hard core and would just as soon trash your childrens belief system as not Christian enough as anyone.

I shudder to think what they will be forced to learn when introducing matters of faith to the classroom (other than exploring them from a philosophical, history or literature issues). Enough crap gets taught about the Mormons that isn't very flattering or accurate. I hear from too many religious fundamentalists how my kids are going to hell or aren't Christian. I've never had that problem with a science teacher in a discussion about the ascent of Homo Sapiens.

That's one of the right's big problems. Most people on the right work, have families, and responsibilities -- the passion for politics is there, but they aren't going to show up for demonstrations like the left does. So the ones who are overly passionate about single issues are the ones you get, and as long as the right lets the loud and loony rabble be their face they are going to keep losing elections.

That sounds like one hell of a party. I'm glad Michelle is OK, I do not agree with a lot of her political perspective but she seems like a nice woman.

Uh...why were the hippies trying to levitate the building? Or is that part even important?

He sounds paranoid and delusional.

It also said he lost his job, similar to the criminal in the NY shootings. We haven't had this level of job loss since probably 1981. Perhaps there is now a generation of Americans where these major job loses are the first large negative setbacks of their lives, making them feel helpless and like life is out of control.

They don't know what to do, are lacking in resilience, so they go searching. There is almost no positive news, and they end up latching onto some horrible stuff. The fringes of both left and right do not appear to be letting this crisis go to waste, and are going after the many potential recruits recently made available.

Permanent government intervention recruits form up on the left, government hatred and overthrow recruits line up on the right, rational independent government supporters in the middle duck and cover.

The only thing that I have ever asked for is a disclaimer. Let the students know that these theories are not universal accepted, and that I large segment of society (a majority actually) believes that God created the world. I don't want them to go into seven days or anything else, just that disclaimer.
Mike

1. the act of disclaiming; the renouncing, repudiating, or denying of a claim; disavowal.
2. a person who disclaims.
3. a statement, document, or assertion that disclaims responsibility, affiliation, etc.; disavowal; denial.

Skembo -- there's no way you're gonna get a public school system to go for the first, or the third definition (above) of a disclaimer. Maybe though, if you're devoted enough, you could stand out on the corner and shout your message to the school children as they pass by on there way to classes.

Do you really believe that schools will ever actually denounce, or "disclaim" the only science available on the matter? And, how is it that reason - science - so threatens faith -- your faith? I'm Christian ... I'm a believer, and don't at all feel threatened by science. Why do you?

This doesn't say exactly WHEN after 9/11 he joined the military, but the way it's written can be misconstrued as occurring when he was 14.

Joined the military, missed his girlfriend, so he threw a lunch tray at an instructor so he could go home.

Why do I have a feeling this one was not long for the military anyway?

Found the Reagan comment!

Ronald Reagan came to the Student Union (1965; UCLA), and he said there’s no such thing as left or right; he said that’s the wrong way to look at it. A political spectrum should be up and down, up towards freedom, down towards tyranny. Communism and Nazism are down at the same end of the spectrum of tyranny and totalitarianism.

This view and Reagan quote appeals to the libertarian in me very much. The problem is--and this is where I struggle politically--is how do you address social issues? For example, should marriage be legalized between any consenting adults: of any gender, of any age, of any number, of any relation (should you be able to marry your mother to convey insurance benefits)?

Every once in a blue moon I visit stormfront to see what the crazies and racists are talking and ranting about, for the same reasons that I visit certain liberal forums. I like to know what people who are a threat to me are thinking. I'm not the least bit surprised that one of stormfront's members turns out to be a cop killer. I didn't find stormfront to be that different from certain liberal forums that I have visited. They both talk about and believe in ridiculous conspiracy theories, they both hate jews, though stormfront members also hates black people in a crude KKK sort of way. I found that the support for Islamic extremists was higher on liberal forums than on stormfront, though there are certainly some supporters there also.

If certain media are to blame for having outrageous segments that could push certain people over the edge then I believe that the POTUS has more responsibility and is more to blame than merely a reporter, because the message from the POTUS hasn't exactly been rosy in my opinion. That is quite ironic for a person who ran on "Hope" and "Change". "Doom" and "Gloom" seems to be more appropriate.

There is a difference about hating policies and hating the person. Again, calling Obama's policies liberal or even socialistic is one thing, calling him a Commie is another. There are a lot of citizens that rightly hate Commies, convince a few that are POTUS is one, and we might have big trouble.

It reads like an argument stating if someone "hates" his policies it is perfectly ok to assume the same person "hates" the man, and that "hating" the man means big trouble. A slippery slope in support of the premise that hating Obama's policies means the person is a radical intent on big trouble.

A nice combo of flawed logic with an emotional ploy; but the brush will be just too heavy to be effective in painting everyone who "hates" his policies.

No, that'll be our cue to know that the "creative class" has turned against Obama, and a cue more specific to Obama to take a midnight flight to some Latin American hideaway. But it won't happen.

What's much more likely on the Right (on the agitprop side) is for a quickie viral video to make the rounds of various sites.

The region was filled with these young people with liberal-arts degrees making $100K or more right out of college as "content providers" or somesuch. When the good times ended around early 2001, they were in a state of shock, since they had never known any other kind of career/job life, and desperately needed someone or something to blame. My position is that of the First Amendment; that the state has to prove your INcompetence (e.g. "kook") before it can restrict your rights.

Excellent point. I don't watch Fox News, but I guess they don't need to know that.

Ok, take out the disclaimer of religious context, just leave in that there are many scientists who disagree with the specifics of evolution, and point out the holes in the theory.

What say you?

There is no scientific theory that God created the earth 10,000 years ago. If you want to move faith into science classrooms as a blocking force to atheism, then everything of faith needs to have science applied to it. Atheists are going to argue with you. Your mass of creationist will have to consider things like whether the virgin birth really happened or not.

Don't be stupid.

re: #291 Charles

I understand that you believe that all of those things fall in the same nutter catagory, but throwing the together as on mass of nuttery is not helpful. It would be more constructive to attack them as different entities.

I am a very religious Christian (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), OK decide for yourself if you think I'm Christian I'm not going to argue with you. I am appalled by both sides of the creationist/evolution debate. The only thing that I have ever asked for is a disclaimer. Let the students know that these theories are not universal accepted, and that I large segment of society (a majority actually) believes that God created the world. I don't want them to go into seven days or anything else, just that disclaimer.

Mike

Umm, empirical science is not a matter of a popularity contest among the general population, but a matter of the empirical evidence. And ALL of the empirical evidence supports evolution and NONE of the empirical evidence contradicts it, whilr NONE of the empirical evidence supports creationism/ID, and LOTS of it contradicts the literal reading of Genesis.

Anything you want to consider? With scientific theory, there is The Big Bang.
All the things in the universe did not exist till it gets fired out of a cannon, but the cannon did not exists. For some reason, nothing existed. With scientific theory everything came from nothing. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
(not picking on you. Just want to make it funny)

Actually, in scientific theory- specifically, Einstein's - time is a dimension of the universe. The term "before the universe" is a nonsense, like "below absolute zero" or "faster than the speed of light".

re: #342 Skembo

Ok, take out the disclaimer of religious context, just leave in that there are many scientists who disagree with the specifics of evolution, and point out the holes in the theory.

What say you?

Please reference this. But you can't, because, except for the pseudoscientific shills hired by the Institute for Creation Research, Answers In Genesis, and the Disco Institute, there are no competent bioscientists who dispute the basic tenets of evolutionary theory.

And please point out these purported 'holes in the theory' that many creationists here have claimed exist, but none of them have yet been able to produce.

I'm from the Pittsburgh area. Those are our cops he killed. Police are heroes around here. We don't go in for any of that anti-police stuff like they do in LA. I hope this guy rots in jail for a very short time and goes directly to Hell afterward.

re: #379 Skembo

I am sure that he used the laws of science in order to achieve his goals. Although I am also sure that he knows the laws of science a lot better than we do. I don't know specifically about evolution, but it doesn't matter to me. I hate the hysterical nature of the argument. Whenever we exclude something absolutely from a classroom we limit the knowledge that can be gained.

Mike

When we exclude religious dogmas from the public high school science classroom, we do not permit them to be abused for purposes of religious indoctrination, but allow them to perform the purpose for which they were designed - the teaching of empirical science.

When one is taught empirically untrue religious dogmas in public high school science class, one does not gain knowledge, but instead gains theocratically desired misconstruals and misunderstandings. Which is the Disco Institute's intention.

Just because YOU don't know something doesn't mean that others don't know it. Arguments from personal ignorance don't wash here. What I find unacceptable is that these folks don't want OTHER people's kids to learn anything that they perceive as contradicting their pet religious dogmas, and they are eager to abuse the public school system in order to achieve these despicable desires.

re: #406 Skembo

I don't care enough about the arguments to invest the time in it. I'm making a stand against rigid stupidity, not in favor of creationist.

It is rigidly stupid, not to mention willfully ignorant and theocratically malevolent, to demand that religious dogmas such as creationism/ID be taught in public high school science classes.

Not to mention unconstitutional.

I didn't know it was scientific research!
