UN Springs Into Action, Does Nothing

Susan Rice, our ambassador to the UN, says the most appropriate response to North Korea’s missile launch is to appeal to the UN Security Council.

Good luck with that: UN Security Council Adjourns Without Response to North Korea Rocket Launch.

The U.N. Security Council met in emergency session on Sunday afternoon to discuss concerns over North Korea’s launch of a long-range rocket. But the closed-door consultations did not produce a clear and unified response.

Diplomats say the council was unified in its deep concern over the launch, but that it could not immediately agree what form its response should take.

At home, when her kids misbehave, she believes the most appropriate response is to appeal to the doorknob.

Her approach is about as effective at home as it is at the UN.

The U.N. is neither clenching nor unclenching its fist.

Instead, it's sitting in the corner playing "Here's the church, and here's the steeple; look inside and see all the people!" while is rocks back and forth and drools.

Nice use of the stones there, UN and Mr. Obama.
If North Korea was so inclined- and I believe they are- it could shell Seoul (if the US disappears literally or morally). What will the grand UN do then? Head back to Busan? Nice. Really.

"I have been reading material at conservative sites and the content contributors can’t seem to get over the fact that Britain is in love with president Obama and his wife, Michelle. There are stupid cartoons of Ms. Obama wanting to “fist bump” with Queen Elizabeth, assorted whining about the fuss P.M. Gordon Brown made over the president and the first lady. I think it really gets to these frustrated sub-literates that millions of people all over the world love Barack Obama. They remember clearly the last several years when their born-again Texan went abroad and how well all that went. Perhaps some of these mouth-breathers are reading this screed now. Hey, knuckle-dragger! Isn’t it a downer that president Obama will be received exceedingly well all over the world and perhaps help the entire planet become a more peaceful and prosperous sphere?"

It was the galling lack of diplomacy under the Bush adminstration that caused them to restart the program and proliferate.

Well Vanity Fair was never really on my reading list. And I will admit that English was not my favorite subject in high school. But I can say that I've more published articles on legal and moral issues in print (in an obscure political publication under a pseudonym) than Die Grosse Null even bothered to contribute while he was president of the Harvard Law Review.

So in my case the name-calling engaged in by Rollins has no basis in reality. Furthermore I actually read, on my own initiative, actual military and political history, not the fantasies of frustrated Marxists with delusions of mental and moral superiority.

I recognize as a fact of reality that as long as someone wishes to impose his will on another, or take something from another person by force, there will be violence. And as long as there are groups or nations that seek to impose their will on other groups or nations by force, there will be wars.

If Die Grosse Null were to actually carry out the policies that he advocates the result would not be peace, love, and happy chocolates on a national or worldwide scale, but more violence. With the possibility of Second Civil War or a Third World War.

Henry Rollins belief in his own mental and moral superiority is simply an illusion. Unfortunately it is an illusion that does not require the misuse of drugs to create.

As far as it "getting" to Republican voters that Obama is loved around the world, he's completely misunderstanding what Republican voters actually worry about. KCNA on DPRK's Successful Launch of Satellite Kwangmyongsong-2

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Scientists and technicians of the DPRK have succeeded in putting satellite Kwangmyongsong-2, an experimental communications satellite, into orbit by means of carrier rocket Unha-2 under the state long-term plan for the development of outer space.

Unha-2, which was launched at the Tonghae Satellite Launching Ground in Hwadae County, North Hamgyong Province at 11:20 on April 5, Juche 98 (2009), accurately put Kwangmyongsong-2 into its orbit at 11:29:02, nine minutes and two seconds after its launch.

The satellite is going round the earth along its elliptic orbit at the angle of inclination of 40.6 degrees at 490 km perigee and 1 426 km apogee. Its cycle is 104 minutes and 12 seconds.

Mounted on the satellite are necessary measuring devices and communications apparatuses.

The satellite is going round on its routine orbit.

It is sending to the earth the melodies of the immortal revolutionary paeans "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Song of General Kim Jong Il" and measured information at 470 MHz. By the use of the satellite the relay communications is now underway by UHF frequency band.

The satellite is of decisive significance in promoting the scientific researches into the peaceful use of outer space and solving scientific and technological problems for the launch of practical satellites in the future.

Carrier rocket Unha-2 has three stages.

The carrier rocket and the satellite developed by the indigenous wisdom and technology are the shining results gained in the efforts to develop the nation's space science and technology on a higher level.

The successful satellite launch symbolic of the leaping advance made in the nation's space science and technology was conducted against the background of the stirring period when a high-pitched drive for bringing about a fresh great revolutionary surge is under way throughout the country to open the gate to a great prosperous and powerful nation without fail by 2012, the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung, under the far-reaching plan of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. This is powerfully encouraging the Korean people all out in the general advance.

I don't think so. The US withheld a portion of their dues over UN funding of abortions for several years - even through the Clinton Administration. One of Bush's first acts as President was to push a bill through Congress that paid pack all past dues and reinstated full payment. Not that there was any quid pro quo, of course, but the feeling was that the UN had been opposing US interests for several years as a result of this laggard payments, and that bringing them up to date would make them more inclined to support the US side of things.

That didn't work out well. But as far as I know, the US doesn't owe anything at this point, and hasn't for some time.

However, the North Koreans probably learned something from their failure. Let's hope they are prevented somehow from doing it again.

Dizzy

I'm starting the rumor that it hit a whale. Maybe a mother whale.

It'll make the Greenpeacer's heads spin.

Feel free to join in spreading this bit of information.

Apparently liberals think this is high school. they think Kim Jung Il gives a crap about being accepted in their clique.

Btw, if all they are going to do is use empty words, could they at least be more forceful about it. Normally its all, "deeply concerned" and blah, blah, blah. How about this:

"Whereas Kim Jung Il is a major douchebag.

"Whereas he shot a rocket into space.

"Whereas he is like, "don't worry, its just a civilian rocket," and we are all like, "Bullshit on that! We know what you are up to. Just put a warhead on that and you have an ICBM." Heh, heh, get it, an "icey BM?"

"Whereas we are totally fucking pissed about the whole thing.

"So we are going to write a really, mean letter. And post some nasty things about you at Daily Kos. And totally make some photoshops, putting your head on a gay porn star's body to make you totally cry."

I mean, at least it would be colorful, if not effective.
