So sad. Mark "The Bird" Fidrych died today. I was too young to watch his unbelievable 1976 season, but as a baseball fan he was one of a kind. Talking to the baseball, smoothing out the mound with his bare hands, running around and hugging his teammates after they made good plays. And a great guy, from what I hear.

Waits has a distinctive voice, described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."

I am starting to get worried about you, Charles. It seems that the only topic you are posting about any more these days is moving. I am concerned that it is becoming an obsession for you.

I have been coming to this blog for years for your excellent coverage of witty puns and not so witty rhymes, but this movement bashing is getting to be too much. I hardly ever visit LGF anymore these days, and I just may stop altogether if you don't take a step back from your anti-movement crudase. It's a real turn off.

I suppose you won't be happy until everyone in America agrees with your wrong headed cause and decides to remain stationary for the rest of their lives. So much for freedom movement.

///Happy birthday.

While I feel honored by the association and tickled at the use of the Roman term, Robert's implication, that Charles and I are both core operatives in the anti-anti-jihadist conspiracy, is plain pathetic.

Anyway, in case any of you ever wanted to know my real identity, I'm now outed at JW. Guess I should expect hate mail from the Atlas/JW hordes any minute now. Perhaps it's time I got my own blog.

Umm- I would say the first worst thing is serious health issues. Nothing worse than hanging out at the hospital.

Hmmm...having done that, too, perhaps it could overtake moving (thanks for the correction to worst, lol). But, thinking about the times I've had serious health issues...still have to go with moving being the worst. But that's just me.

Well ok, I've posted this before, but it's worth listening to again:

129 Sharmuta  Mon, Apr 13, 2009 5:06:05pm

Moving is like the Tao- it's bad and good. I always unpack the bathroom first because 1) I'm going to need that room within hours, and 2) it's usually easy. Next I work on the kitchen because 1) I'm going to need that room within hours, and 2) it's kind of fun to figure out the new space to my cooking needs. A lot of it is logical. Put the pans by the stove, the dishes close to the sink or dishwasher (because who wants to move clean dishes across the room?)

It's a new beginning, and it can be both a pain and exciting.

Has anyone heard of Tom Waitt's moronic ballad "road to peace"? Like any other lefty loon he views the conflict as a cycle of violence and at worst presumes Israel's guilt in perpetuating it. What's more he also questions why America sells arms to Israel. Leftist ignorance at its most painful.

Waits, 'Come on Up to the House' has a very creole spiritual sound and the lyrics are heart and soulful in a way that is befitting to the present times of our woes.

"Mule Variations"? Really?

A good album, but I wouldn't list it as one of his best. "Raindogs" and "Swordfishtrombones" would be up there. "Alice", as well.

I'd list "Mule Variations" with "Bone Machine" and "The Black Rider". Good albums, but not his best.

I would put MV just behind Raindogs, Trombones and Frank- kinda tied with Bone. Not Tom's best but still better than 99.9% of most recorded music.
