It never rains, but it definitely do pour. There’s apparently a bad router somewhere in the Road Runner network, and I can’t reach LGF from my cable connection. So I’m back on the iPhone again.

This is an open thread while I attempt to get this sorted out…

It's a conspiracy! The RoadRunner network is run by the evil conspiracy of Gooooogle, ACORN, and the ChiComs and is keeping people away from learning the truth at lgf!

OT ~

As a parent, I am always mindful of events that can become teaching moments for my children. Sometimes these events are thrust upon us and we must scramble to help youngsters understand. Such an event occurred on Easter Sunday when my mother-in-law passed away. Other times we must select events carefully so as to cover a range of issues. One such moment was our erudite, thoughtful and well-spoken President’s comment referring to his bowling skills. I told my children that being self-deprecating can be an admirable quality as long as one does not deprecate someone else in the process. We discussed the Special Olympics and the wonderful job they do for disabled people. To help drive the point home, I registered my entire family as a team to run/walk in the 2009 Lincoln Tunnel 5K Challenge on April 26th to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey. Not only is this for a terrific cause, but to be able to run through the Lincoln Tunnel instead of driving will be an added educational benefit. (On a personal level, it will also force me to get my fat keester moving.) I know that times are tough for many economically, but if you are able and willing to donate any amount, please click the link. Thank you.

We got that when we switched from Verizon to Sprint and ported our phone numbers. We switched back in 5 days because Sprints network here sucked. We finally had to get a lawyer to write cease and desist letters to both companies for cancellation fees. It took 6 months to get that crap off of our credit reports.

It took me months to straighten out billing issues with Verizon, and neighbors had it even worse with Cablevision (Cabalvision?). Verizon's actual delivery of FiOS is great; excellent picture, great 'net speed, but their customer service is worse than awful (and they know it too!).

I agree. The first step to solving a problem is to admit it exists, and for too long pirates have been capturing ships because shipping companies paid the ransoms, which is a better solution when your myopic to short term financial issues. Now that the ante has been upped something will have to change.

Some method of arming crews or putting armed security on ships has to be the answer. Pirates aren't jihadists: death is not seen as a success. You can't spend the money that way.

MCI, back when they were independent. I canceled a cell phone, and was arguing with them for 6 months; finally had to send a copy of the correspondence and notes. And I couldn't get to a human before they sent it to their collections department; their regular number just went to voicemail. The collections department was staffed, and looked up the info.
I don't remember if I had to fax anything or not, but I like it when I fax, because it is my wife's fax machine, and the headers say "Atty Mrs. Kosh's Shadow". I figure the "Atty" puts some fear in the other end.

I disagree on arming the ship crews as a solution. While I feel that would help, you have to remove the pirates as a threat. Sink all their ship and destroy their ports. That ends the problem quickly and with little loss of life and treasure. And gives the Navy some practice for very little money too!

re: #65 Kosh's Shadow

MCI, back when they were independent. I canceled a cell phone, and was arguing with them for 6 months; finally had to send a copy of the correspondence and notes. And I couldn't get to a human before they sent it to their collections department; their regular number just went to voicemail. The collections department was staffed, and looked up the info.
I don't remember if I had to fax anything or not, but I like it when I fax, because it is my wife's fax machine, and the headers say "Atty Mrs. Kosh's Shadow". I figure the "Atty" puts some fear in the other end.

That's a neat trick. Mr. Doppel's case had gone to an outside collection agency. They demanded the full amount plus fees, while he had already reached an agreement with AT&T. The collection agency refused to believe he had an agreement and wouldn't accept the reduced amount, while AT&T wouldn't accept any payment because it had already gone to collections. It took several hours of phone calls back and forth before the collection agency would accept the negotiated amount. That was about 6 weeks ago and we haven't heard from any of them, so I think we're cool.

re: #70 MikeAlv77

I disagree on arming the ship crews as a solution. While I feel that would help, you have to remove the pirates as a threat. Sink all their ship and destroy their ports. That ends the problem quickly and with little loss of life and treasure. And gives the Navy some practice for very little money too!

you have to differentiate between the pirates and the locals, which is very hard to do.

my solution is to use an MEU to place teams (say 3 fire teams strong) on vessels as they navigate the area. spread the ships of the MEU out over the area to use as chopper pads, and use the choppers to move the Marines back and forth from ship to ship. the organic UAV's can provide local intel on pirate movement. when the pirates attempt to board, kill them and sink the craft involved.

as soon as being a pirate becomes unprofitable, they'll stop doing it.

re: #90 Dustyvet
From your link (which is dated November 28, 2008)

On Tuesday, Obama picked Peter Orszag to direct the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Orszag believes that Social Security benefits should be cut back to help balance the Social Security Trust Fund over the next 75 years.

He spells out his views in a paper he wrote with Peter A. Diamond for the Brookings Institute back in 2005, called “Saving Social Security: The Diamond-Orszag Plan.”

In it, they call for “a reduction in benefits, which would apply to all workers age 59 and younger.”

The younger you are, the more you’ll get hurt.
“The reduction in benefits for a 45-year-old average earner is less than 1 percent,” the plan says. “For a 35-year-old, less than 5 percent; and for a 25-year-old, less than 9 percent. Reductions are smaller for lower earners, and larger for higher ones.”

It would be pretty easy to sink pirate ships. They should have a battle cruiser moving through the water and blowing up pirate ships and a few air strikes against pirate bases, wherever they may be.

Jaunte's transcript doesn't read like a declaration of secession. It does seem to indicate that the State of Texas wants the pressure of "comply or get no money; or worse, we'll charge you" toned down.

But I'm not a lawyer, or a constitutional scholar, so I'll leave the answer to that to those who are.

And this time, it is very valid. There's been a major intrusion of federal power into the states' arena since the late 1920s/early 1930s. It sped up under the Great Society, and then grew under Nixon, and then Carter. At its height, even the speed limit was regulated by the Feds. Absolutely. The Dems can never get control of every state or congressional district, but as long as they hold majorities at the federal level, they can use the carrot and stick method to impose their will even on red states. I know I should be saving towards retirement, but I don't really expect to live that long ;-) Another thing that worries me what with all the covert nationalization that the Democrats are trying to sneak in is the Feds just grabbing everyone's retirement savings either by changing the tax structure or by outright naked theft.

It certainly wouldn't surprise me any.

You are not alone in having that thought. I know more than a few people who emptied their 401k's, took the penalty hit and paid off cars, houses, etc. I am beginning to worry about what I have left in mine being either taken or moved into the SS pot, or in some way nationalized. Yes, but they have children, and they have weddings...

I predict that most of the Pirate hideouts now come equipped with Wedding items... so that when the press is shifting through the rubble they will be able to say that the US forces were mistaken and hit a wedding, or Baby Formula Factory, or whatever.

You can be sure the Pirate King is hanging out with as many Women, Wives and children (sometimes all the same person) as he can assemble.

I am all for kill them, kill them all.... but the rules have changed since the last time we we up against "Barbary Pirates"... Now they all have a "Green Helmet guy" just waiting for the chance to show the press all the little bodies...

And the problem is that we won't stand up for our lives. We are cowed by the cries of the enemy, amplified by a media that also appears to be our enemy, and so the people who end up dying are us.

I think we all know the answer to that question. Just think if the Brits had won ya'll be speaking English today. heh, heh, now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

It's not that funny if you consider warfare of that era. First, the British had planned to loot the town. Rape and pillage would have been the order of the day. Many redcoats were looking to make a fortune on what they could plunder from the town--which was pretty rich.

If they had to give up the town--either by force or otherwise, there's little doubt they would have destroyed the place or, at the very least burned anything of value. Fire, back then, could get out of control and most likely consumed the whole place.

Stormfront thread.....
Ron Paul Revolution - Tea Parties April 15 All Over America

The Bush family supports Open Borders and sees nothing wrong with filling America up with Mexicans. Bush Junior’s occupation of Iraq has cost the Republicans control of Congress. Many Republicans would like to see a complete change of direction. Ron Paul has been consistently against the Iraq War and he also supports securing the Mexican border.
....
Just a few weeks ago it looked as though we were going to be stuck with a liberal Republican in the form of Rudi Giuliani or Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
.....
There will be more debates ahead and if Ron Paul continues to win the hearts of ordinary conservatives, he will survive the early culling as Romney and Giuliani finally face a serious challenge. Americans want to see a populist candidate, who is right on the key issues, defeat a system-approved candidate like Romney who showed up with his giant bags of money or the ridiculously overrated Giuliani who was mayor of one of the most liberal cities in America.
....

Tea Party!

re: #317 realwest

There might not be millions of Ron Paul supporters, but they have shown an annoying tendency to infiltrate and take over the Tea Parties in several parts of the country. That's not a good sign. The Stormfronters aren't nearly as well organized, but they'll show up and do their fringe thing and their very presence will undermine the message attempted to be delivered by the Tea Party folks about the massive spending spree and just how fiscally irresponsible it all is.

It's part of the same problem that the Left had when their MoveOn.org events started out with a simple message to get out of Iraq, but quickly morphed into an anti-US anti-Israel, anti-West melange of Marxist, leftist, socialist claptrap. The media attempted to cover up that part - trying to stay on the message of anti-war all the time but you and I both know that the media will not do any such thing when a right-of-center group of protesters are gathering to question the One's agenda. They'll use the very presence of the Paulians or Stormfronters to undermine and destroy the valid message of the Tea Parties.

Rusty is reporting that the MD National Guard is being alerted for possible incidents relating to MD Tea Parties scheduled for April 15 (tomorrow).

One of three things is going on here:

1) There is some intel that the public isn't aware of connecting extremists to the TEA Party movement.

2) The Maryland National Guard is just being overcautious -- perhaps these kinds of memos are sent out for all major protests?

3) Someone somewhere is unable to distinguish between mainstream conservative resentment of Obama's disastrous economic policies -- which the TEA Party movement represents -- and fringe conspiracy and supremacist groups.

Two is most likely - particularly with the possibility of huge crowds. Still, this is worth watching to see how it plays out.

It won't be long until most military ops will be initiated by drones. All you have to do is equip R2D2 with 10 Hellfire missiles and a web cam and you're set.

We should be careful with that. Hard to tell where it may lead. But it may be nothing.

re: #327 lawhawk
Well I don't disagree with

you and I both know that the media will not do any such thing when a right-of-center group of protesters are gathering to question the One's agenda. They'll use the very presence of the Paulians or Stormfronters to undermine and destroy the valid message of the Tea Parties.

What I do think about the Tea Parties is that they are going to mostly be relatively SMALL gatherings at HUNDREDS of sites (as I said, over 32 in N.C. alone) and while the MSM will no doubt try to paint us - with help from some of our "friends" as Neo-Nazi's or other forms of Whackos, the people who attend, and chat with other people who attend will know better. And it's only the Obama voters who pay all that much attention to what the MSM has to say anyway.
I think your concerns are one of the reasons there are so MANY tea parties ALL over the country.

re: #326 Ringo the Gringo
Ooops sorry Ringo - I didn't have a chance to look at your link - but I quickly scanned it (emphasis on "quickly"!) and noted two things that others apparently didn't see:

a) it was held in or around Hollywood, California which has always had nuts to spare and
b) while there were waaay too many troofers, there were some with signs that said "This is not America" and "No taxation without representation" and the like; not exactly "original" thinking but then again not all Troofers either.

That's why I've said, repeatedly, that the organizers of the Tea Parties were smart enough to spread them out all over the country. No doubt lawhawk is right that the MSM will "cover" only the troofers and neo-Nazi types in a few big cities, but those who attend not because they are troofers or neo-Nazi's will see for themselves neighbors and perhaps friends who are tired of the socialist direction President Obama and Nancy Pelosi want to take this country and those folks will talk to others who will talk to others and so forth.
THAT'S why Obama, DHS, and others are so AFRAID of the Tea Parties. Talk about ground roots organizing!

Our pre-rally is from 4 to 5, with buses heading downtown at 5:30, so presumably the main event in Atlanta is around 6:00 or 6:30. It stays light until about 7:30 this time of year, so it's perfect, really.

That lady must have had some professional coaching. That is not an easy song and whoever does it needs big pipes to make it reach the rafters. I'm sure she's a natural talent, but what she did there took a lot of rehearsal.

And, now for me to sound cynical. It's a great story, but is it true. Simon Cowell is not beyond getting a "ringer" and making them look less than stellar and trotting them out as an unknown. If the lady is the real deal, so much the better--I like cheering for real underdogs. I hope this was not a shameless ploy by the producers to pull on the audience's heartstrings (it worked, though)

It "is legal" for this unknown 60% to stand up. It is possible that they will stand up.
These loon liberal Democrats will not release power as they should, there will be trouble in the 2010 and 2012 elections. Be Prepared for Democracy in action.

I suspect it has already started. Al Gore canceled the IPO from his carbon credit selling company yesterday. They had expected to initially offer over 100 million shares. I think this has been circulating for a while on the internet because I'm sure the Australia gun confiscation began more than 12 months ago, but here it is:

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
---- ------------- -------------
