Obama Laughs It Up With Hugo Chavez

World • Views: 10,259

I know some people think that because I refuse to jump on the bandwagon with some of the more ridiculous, exaggerated attacks against Barack Obama, I’m suddenly on his side.

But this … is absolutely sickening.

Handout picture released by the Venezuelan Presidency press office showing the President of the US, Barack Obama (L), and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez (R) shaking hands before the opening of the 5th Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, on April 17, 2009.

Bizarre. Even most of the left in this country dislike Chavez. Obama has nothing to gain from this pointless legitimization of a socialist thug. Well… he should have nothing to gain.

What is about Obama that he always has to place his hand on the other person’s shoulder? This man is as insecure as they come! (His body language is telling us quite a bit!)

16 Nevergiveup  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 4:29:25pm

In the Movie “Primary Colors” the fictional story about Clinton’s campaign. They had a scene were they describe how Bill shook someone’s hand and touched the other person’s arm and what it all meant. Anyone remember?

17 Russkilitlover  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 4:29:41pm

Obama not just doing the bro-shake thing, but reaching out with his other hand to caress Hugo’s arm. How warm, how touching, how……..sickening.

re: #17 Russkilitlover

placing his hand on Hugo’s shoulder or upper arm is a dominance/submission thing…… Obama does it to everyone to assert his dominance. As far as I’m concerned, anyone who does this is admitting their own insecurities…. by feeling the need to explicitly establish themselves as dominant….

Has Obama been briefed on what is actually going on in Venezuela?

Venezuela’s democracy is in “serious danger of collapse”, the country’s Catholic bishops said in an Easter message.

The government is picking off its main opponents one by one. Manuel Rosales, the mayor of Maracaibo, Venezuela’s second city, and the opposition’s defeated candidate in the 2006 presidential election, has gone into hiding to avoid arrest on corruption charges. The government claims he has left the country, although his family and his lawyers deny this.

Officials say he should defend himself in court. But since Mr Chávez has said he would personally jail Mr Rosales, he can hardly expect a fair trial. The president already controls the judiciary. But a bill soon to become law sets up a new executive-dominated judicial commission which would rank higher than the supine supreme court.

Needless to say, it gets worse from there.

75 HelloDare  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 4:38:53pm

He goes and accuses me of exporting terrorism: the least I can say is that he’s a poor ignoramus; he should read and study a little to understand reality,” Chavez said.

The socialist president was referring to Obama’s January interview with Spanish-language US network Univision:

Chávez has “been a force that has interrupted progress in the region… We need to be firm when we see this news, that Venezuela is exporting terrorist activities or supporting malicious entities like the FARC. This creates problems that are not acceptable.

Such ignorance,” Chavez said adding that “the real obstacle has been the empire that he today presides over, which has exported terrorism for nearly 200 years, has launched atomic bombs on innocent cities, has bombarded, invaded and issued orders to kill whenever they have taken the notion.”

Hey Dog! How’s it hangin?

Once the word gets out that Obama yukked it up with Chavez, he’ll go into his tried and true routine for diffusing criticism. Step 1, dissemble (That’s not the Chavez I knew!). Step 2, throw Chavez under the bus. Step 3, Complain about distractions from the right wing and Fox News.

I see this happening within the next few days. Watch for it…

Or he might say that Chavez is misunderstood and is working for the common good against the selfish forces trying to distract him…

In addition it’s an illegitimate snark to talk about us “filling up our cars” - what, you don’t approve of one’s individual freedom to drive around? Embarrassing - The real problem is most Americans don’t know who Chavez is or what he represents. There is no outrage because Chavez is positioned as a modern day Guevera who wants to reduce Americans heating and oil costs. A real saviour and a good guy according to Sean Penn!

The dumbing down of America is paying off for the left. People are not aware enough to understand the implications of what is really going on!

The radical left will play this as Obama bashing, not what it is, which is the President of the free world fawning all over a radical leftist who throws dissenters in jail.

If The Economist had shame, they would apologise for endorsing Obama last fall. Virginia and North Carolina were close enough, and reliant on international trade enough, that this endorsement mattered.

Mr. Obama was referring to the 52-minute airing of grievances by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, which ran through decades of what he saw as American imperialism. When discussing the Bay of Pigs invasion, which was launched 48 years ago, Mr. Ortega said he didn’t blame Mr. Obama for it, since according to Cuban President Raoul Castro, the invasion happened when Barack Obama was 3-and-a-half months old at the time.

“Obviously, he didn’t have any responsibility for that historic event,” Ortega said.

Actually, President Obama was four months away from being born at the time, April 17, 1961 — 48 years ago today.

Mr. Obama’s birthday is in August.

Botched joke.

I look at that photo and I see exactly what I knew I’d see from a President Obama. Don’t you? What in the world did you expect him to do when he met Chavez? I really mean that. Did you expect something different, perhaps some aversion to Chavez’s fascist tendencies? Why would you expect that when the expectation of precisely what is shown in that photo is so much more rational and reasonable? Really, how did you think Obama would act upon meeting his very first Latin American dictator? What in any of Obama’s campaign rhetoric, Senate record, “community organizing,” and behavior since assuming office would suggest to you that he would be anything but absolutely delighted to shake Chavez’s filthy little hand?

Observers Rush to Judgment
Jimmy Carter gets rolled—first by Fidel Castro, now by Hugo Chávez.

by MARY ANASTASIA O’GRADY
Saturday, August 21, 2004 12:01 A.M. EDT

When Jimmy Carter went to Cuba in 2002, Fidel Castro reveled in the photo-ops with a former U.S. president. Mr. Carter seemed to think he was heroically “engaging” the Cuban despot. But in the documentary “Dissident,” celluloid captures something most Americans didn’t see: Castro giggling sardonically as Mr. Carter lectures the Cuban politburo on democracy. That foreshadowed what happened when the media splash ended and the former president went home: Dissidents he went to “help” today languish in gulag punishment cells.

I was reminded this week of how Castro so artfully used Mr. Carter when Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez took a page from his Cuban mentor’s playbook. On Monday, the Carter Center along with the head of the monumentally meaningless Organization of American States, Cesar Gaviria, endorsed Chávez’s claims of victory in the Venezuelan recall referendum, rather too hastily it now seems.

The problem was that the “observers” hadn’t actually observed the election results. Messrs. Carter and Gaviria were only allowed to make a “quick count”—that is, look at the tally sheets spat out by a sample of voting machines. They were not allowed to check this against ballots the machines issued to voters as confirmation that their votes were properly registered.

If there was fraud, as many Venezuelans now suspect, it could have been discovered if the ballots didn’t match the computer tallies. The tallies alone were meaningless. The problem was clear by Tuesday but it didn’t stop the State Department spokesman Adam Ereli from chiming in. “The people of Venezuela have spoken,” he proclaimed.

Mr. Carter marveled at the huge turnout on Sunday. Venezuelans, who have been voting 2-to-1 against Chávez in opinion polls, waited in absurdly long lines to cast more meaningful votes on electronic machines. But did the machine really record the vote as registered on the paper ballot?

According to experts, it is relatively simple to tamper with encryption codes in electronic voting machines. American Enterprise Institute resident scholar John Lott says, “You can easily write a program that tells the voting machine to record something different in its memory than what it prints out on the receipt that is to be dropped in the ballot box.”

To rely on the tally sheets alone, as Messrs. Carter and Gaviria did, is to abdicate the heavy responsibility an observer accepts when overseeing an election. A Venezuelan who is a former U.N. deputy high commissioner of human rights wrote of his suspicions in Wednesday’s International Herald Tribune (right beside a pro-Chávez New York Times editorial, by the way). Enrique ter Horst cited as cause for concern the fact that “the papers the new machines produced … were not added up and compared with the final numbers these machines produce at the end of the voting process, as the voting-machine manufacturer had suggested.”

An exit poll done by the prominent U.S. polling firm of Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates showed 59% of voters opposed to Chávez and only 41% in favor. (Messrs. Penn and Schoen both worked for Bill Clinton in his 1996 re-election bid.) Raj Kumar, a principal at the polling firm, told me Thursday that the firm has gone back to try to explain the 34-point spread between the PSB poll and the results announced by the government. “While there are certainly biases that can impact any exit poll, we do not see any factor that could account for such a significant difference,” he said.

Nobody has any business being surprised by any of this. It was way beyond predictable. Now we’re stuck and the idiots who voted for this moron thinking he was some kind of post-racial moderate ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Am I being too harsh?

HERE’S A FUNNY DARWIN AWARD WINNER!

(December 1988, Romania) I was a student of electricity and mechanics in Communist Romania. At the time, it was mandatory for all children, including university students, to boost the economy by ‘active participation.’ Each autumn we worked in agriculture, harvesting fruits and vegetables, and for three weeks per year we were required to train in a power plant or factory, to get a feel for successful communist industry. This was known as “Rub The Mint”.

My class was sent to Slatina where aluminum was obtained with the old power-hungry electrolysis process. We were not much use, so we were ignored by the people in charge of our ‘training.’ We spent the down time reviewing our class notes. Not only were the students bored, but so were many workers in the factory, who were actually paid for doing nothing.

One day I was assigned to walk documents from one department to another. On the way, I spotted two men crafting a wooden coffin. I was accustomed to all kinds of crazy sights, but a coffin… intriguing. Was the aluminum factory branching out into funeral supplies? No. “The coffin is for a comrade who accidentally removed himself from the gene pool,” the woodcrafters told me.

Two recent hires, men in their twenties, were fiddling with the pressurized air hose used to power industrial air tools. They swept the dust off their dusty clothes; this was so much fun, one of them dropped his pants to feel the air sweep across his testicles. He bent further, and bet his comrade that he had the guts to pressurize his guts, and maybe have some fun farts. He proceeded to stick the hose in his anus and release six bar (atmospheres) of pressure, inflating and rupturing his colon and intestines.

He died within minutes from massive internal hemorrhage. He would not have survived even if he had pressurized himself in a hospital corridor. The autopsy revealed that the deceased had ruptured several meters of his colon and intestines. He was later found to have broken (heh) internal (heh) regulations. His ‘scientific collaborator’ stated that he did not believe his comrade would be so stupid as to proceed, and thought he was only goofing off.

Dear Mr. President Barrack Obama,

I am currently looking at a picture worth a thousand words, but I’ll try to keep this short.

You have today added the straw(more like brick) that has broken the camel’s back. Today with your gleefully happy handshake with the despicable Hugo Chavez, you have solidified the concrete proving every campaign add you gave us,and every one John McCain gave negatively about you,is true. Over these past months(which have felt like years) I’ve seen the nation I love live in fear. We, the people, need leadership and you must step to the plate or get out. Your actions speak louder than any words you may recite, and your actions are putting us towards socialism.
Your theories and plans have been tried before, and they will not work. You have spent the money of my grandchildren, and want to pay for it with money the citizens can not and will not provide.
You have continued the failed talks with rogue nations such as North Korea and especially Iran.
You have nominated tax cheats to lecture me on how to be patriotic in giving more than 40% of my paycheck.
You have disrespected our closest and greatest Ally, and in doing so insulted their Queen.
You seem to be in the mindset of never being able to except criticism and your narcissistic personality can not serve the me and the citizens to a satisfactory degree.

I am living in Bizzaro World, get me out of this nightmare.

Old Soviet joke: A Russian town commissions an artist to create a painting for their city hall, to be painted in the finest Socialist Realist style, and titled, “Lenin in Zurich”.

On the day the painting is to be unveiled, all the important people from the area arrive to see it. They are ushered into the city hall, where the artist stands proudly in front of his veiled painting.

With a flourish, the painter pulls the covering from his canvas. All the important people stop mid-clap, as they stare at a large, well-executed painting in Socialist Realist style, showing Nadya Krupskaya (Mrs. Lenin), naked, in bed, with Trotsky.

“What the hell is this?” screams the mayor. “What is this filth. You were commissioned to paint “Lenin in Zurich”. Where is Lenin?”

“Lenin’s in Zurich,” the painter replies.

Obama to Chavez; I’d like to be your friend. According to Fox, translation of their verbal exchange. I’m not kidding.

Late to the dance, here.
From what I remember about Spanish:

Chávez le dice a Obama “quiero ser tu amigo”

… the usage of “tu” is the familiar form of “your”. As in kissing cousin familiar.

Given the public statements Chavez has issued regarding Obama, he is also being “tu” faced. Maybe he’ll get a bailout, now.

“Given the public statements Chavez has issued regarding Obama, he is also being “tu” faced. Maybe he’ll get a bailout, now.”

We can make Venezuela a state. Everything is already nationalized so Obama wouldn’t have to do it.

1. Chavez supports FARC which is a terrorist organization.
2. If Chavez buys or creates WMD’s he will be more than just a threat to our allies in Central and South America.
3. Chavez seeks to spread socialism/communism.

I could go on, but the point is that Chavez is a destablizing force for the entire region and a major threat to democracy and free trade. If you think his actions won’t affect us then you are naive.

But, don’t you see, if we just talk to all the crazies, they will understand and love us and give up their despotic ways.

After Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong-il, Chavez is the worst thug on this planet. Not to forget: This freak called then-President Bush the devil (“And it smells of sulfur still today.”).
It’s a disgrace that Obama is friendly shaking hands with this man.

I’m sure others have pointed this out, but this photo looks like Hugo was giving 0 the homey handshake and 0 is only bitterly amused.

But when play the race card extensively in your quest for the presidency, people are going to define you by that race’s stereotypes.

Hugo feels very good about himself in this pic.

They need to get a room.  And Ahmadinejad’s going to not like being cheated on — but then he knows what kind of a manslut Chavez is.  But mark my words, someone’s going to have a big “0” when this is over, I’m sure.

Expect to see Hugo to become our biggest partner in oil and Citgo gas becomes cheaper. So much for the promise of being less dependent of foreign sources. Robet Kennedy, Jesse and Al will see that Obama receives his royalities at a later date.

493 Capitalistincharge  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 8:19:49pm

Evening Lizards! I can only shake my head in disbelief at the mockery the President is making of the office. In his mind, I am sure this is what he meant by restoring America’s image. I do hope our Country survives his presidency, but, I am seriously doubtful. On another note…Just finished the book, One Second After by Robert Forstchen with forward by Newt Gingrich. A fictional tale of an EMP attack on America. I could not put the book down and it has left me reeling. Folks, read this book.

I’m quite impressed with all of the body language mavens here at LGF. Are there no skeptics among us? To the best of my knowledge there is little if any good scientific evidence to support the many interpretations of “body language” that have been put forth on this forum. Maybe LGFers should scrutinize the academic and research credentials of Tanya Reiman, Bill O’Reilly’s body language expert.

496 experiencedtraveller  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 8:42:08pm

Over the last ten years I have witnessed the destruction of Venezuelan democracy.

The middle class is pauperized.
There is no access to foreign currency.
The local currency is worthless.
Seized business’ stagnate.
Elected opposition leaders are hounded and assaulted.
The rule of law is lost.
Government transparency is non existent.

Shame their Supreme Court. Shame, shame, shame. Not one brave heart among them.

This tyrant seized power slowly. It is a dictatorship of the 21st century.

497 Zack  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 8:48:34pm

498 hopperandadropper  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 9:02:25pm

Well, those of you who thought it was a big paranoid exaggeration for anyone to say that Obama is a Marxist can think again. He shows total disrespect for the Prime Minister of the UK, gets rid of the Churchill bust from the Oval Office, and then fawns on this Castro wannabe.

I knew this was going to be bad, but it’s far worse far faster than I imagined. Only Congress can save us, which means we’re screwed.

501 librum  Fri, Apr 17, 2009 9:50:09pm

I’d rather not see him in the same room with the man, and here he is in some sort of convoluted and awkward looking hand shake-high five maneuver with arguably the most dangerously unhinged leader in our neck of the woods.

I will only be surprised by Obama’s antics when he doesn’t surprise me with his antics - he seems to have a wellspring of outrage that he can draw from on command.

/ Obama getting pointers on how to turn a democracy into a dictatorship?

It made me sick to read that. It is all too possible O would try. HE WILL NOT SUCCEED!

503 orfannkyl  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 3:41:52am

the worst part, aside from Obama meeting with an insane leader, is the fact that the picture shows Obama playing thumb wrestling with him. And he let him WIN!

505 tfc3rid  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 6:02:50am

How is this preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution?

It isn’t…

506 voluble  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 6:06:16am

There is nothing surprising about this at all. The two have the same philosophy about government. Just today Obama had his car czar (who is being investigated for “pay for play”) demand that all Chrysler debt holders give up their claims. He has used the bailout money to give himself the right to run these companies as he sees fit and he won’t let them pay the money back to get out from under the government’s thumb.

So where are all of the people who want to be free in Iran, or Cuba, or Venezuela supposed to look for help now?

If Obama had been president during the cold war we would all be drinking windshield wiper fluid right now.

507 SunshineGirl  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 6:57:16am

Ok, any wagers on how many days it will be until we see a picture of Obama and Ahmadinejad giving the same secret handshake? After all, aren’t they all members of the same club?

508 _RememberTonyC  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 8:09:29am

Michael Steele … your thoughts?

Oh wait … Michael Steele is currently doing his Claude (The Invisible Man) Rains imitation.

I just hope the loyal opposition is gathering material such as this for the midterm election ad campaign.

509 1trl  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 10:07:42am

Probably, Yugo is a big step up from the criminals that Obama is used to hanging out with. Mrs. O probably forbade tongue-tag or reach-arounds, thus the happy handshakes.

These two Socialists would make great pinatas. (but if you hit ‘em with a stick, what would spill out?)

510 Colonel Panik  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 10:17:29am

512 Spartacus50  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 12:37:18pm

Chavez is making an absolute fool of the POTUS…and he’s stupid enough to go along with it. They say a lot can be said about a handshake, and if that is true we as a nation are screwed.

513 Joel  Sat, Apr 18, 2009 2:46:36pm

The fact that El Loco referred to Obama’s predecessor as the Devil means nothing to Obama. In fact Obama probably agrees with him. Obama is going to do a Lot of damage to this country before he is though with his attempts to Europeanize us and yes I hope he fails in that.

re: #412 curquhart

Zimriel,
Does being elected give a president the mandate to declare himself a king?
Does “democracy” mean that a country can vote away its inheritance?
Edmund Burke would like a word with you…

If the Venezuelan people want Chavez as their leader, let them.

As long as Venezuela is not a threat against us, Chavez can appoint himself as The Eternal Emperor of all Mankind.

Who cares what that bloviating blowhard has to say?

Interfering in the internal affairs of other countries is not really a good idea.
It tends to backfire one way or the other.

Oh, sure. I mean, that’s what happpened with WWII, didn’t it? By the time the U.S. got involved, Germany had built up so much of its army and weaponry that many more of our guys were killed or injured. So much for the U.S. being isolationist.

515 landivar  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 4:33:18am

516 Nebraska Militia  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 6:54:40am
