Joining Canada, Israel, Italy, the United States, Australia, and Sweden: Netherlands refuses to attend UN racism conference.

THE HAGUE - The Netherlands joined the United States and Australia Sunday in refusing to attend a UN conference on racism, saying it feared the event would be abused and place religion ahead of human rights.

The Netherlands found a draft final text prepared ahead of the conference “unacceptable”, said foreign minister Maxime Verhagen, as it undermined the goals of the meeting due to open in Geneva on Monday.

“The conference is too important for it to be abused for political ends and attacks on the West,” the minister said in a statement.

“The Netherlands will not be a party to that.”

Verhagen said countries with questionable human rights records were seeking to abuse the gathering “to place religion ahead of human rights and unneccesarily curtain freedom of speech, to negate discrimination against homosexuality, and to place Israel alone in the accused bench”, said Verhagen.

Nope.

Maxime Jacques Marcel Verhagen (born 14 September 1956) is a Dutch politician. He is the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Christian Democratic Appeal party (CDA) in the fourth Balkenende cabinet.

You get the feeling the Pope maybe isn't getting all the news/truth? I give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Pope Benedict XVI, on the other hand, hailed the meeting, and urged countries to join forces to eliminate intolerance.

The conference is an important initiative, the pope said, because "even today, despite the lessons of history, such deplorable phenomena take place."

But from where they absolutely know the news/truth- and have a repulsive history where Israel is concerned- perfidious albion is true to form.

However, despite Jerusalem's efforts to encourage nations to boycott the conference, Britain announced on Sunday that its representatives will attend.

I am desperately waiting for exactly that to happen. Wanted to go protest that farce but couldn't find a group of like-minded to join.

Last time I checked there wasnt 57 states here and I know the US isnt going. I figured people here were smart enough to realize that meant "Islamic Nations"

I'll keep it noted I need to be more literal.

UK willing to hang on to the last minute for Durban II

Though it makes sense. Labour loves to curtail individual freedom. All the more fuel to strengthen the Nanny State. And why not? Nanny knows best.

I think they're still hoping to retool some of the offensive wording that led so many others to bail.

It's now become obvious to everyone, however - if it wasn't already - that the real intentions of one group of attendees are odious, and no amount of semantic doctoring is going to change that fact.

Here's hoping Britain throws in the towel soon.

I wish that were the case but Durban II affirms the first conference and outlines a plan of action. In other words, the offending material is not negotiable and this was evident from the get-go.

But I do hope that the UK's intentions are good...

Not feeling that there is enough anti Semitic hate at the official Durban II, lunatic Jews are having their own forum, where they found a target:

Forum slams 'Israeli swimming pools'

A parallel meeting to Durban II which was organized by the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, the International Coordinating Network on Palestine and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Committee, kicked off at a Geneva hotel Sunday, one day ahead of the United Nation's conference on racism.

Who boycotted Durban in the past? Is this a new trend?

34 Walahi  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 2:31:51pm

UK residents-

Find your MP and let him/her know that this is a travesty. Remember to mention that other countries have withdrawn and that this is shameful.

This is the dividing line. Nations need to take a stand on their core values and be counted. The media needs to honestly evaluate the true agenda behind this farce.

37 Not Sold In Stores! Act NOW!  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 3:38:47pm

What if they had a party and no one came? The UN is a joke, a very bad joke. On top of that, US tax dollars fund this odorous cesspool of not so veiled hatred of all things free. If the plug was pulled on this free ride for thugs, who would cry?

38 krypto  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 5:07:32pm

Could someone please clarify this? What specifically is this "curtail freedom of speech" aspect of the boycott or Durban 2. Is that the old attempt to criminalize "blasphemy," such as criticizing Islam for example?

39 Darth_K  Sun, Apr 19, 2009 8:19:07pm

Well this is a surprise. Maybe Theo Van Gogh's murder is finally putting some sense into them?
