On the Obama administration going after those who formulated the CIA interrogation practices:

Q. Robert, what changed over the last 24 hours, though? Because yesterday you were flat in saying that we're not going there, as Rahm was on Sunday. And in the last 24 hours we've seen groups like moveon.org on the left come out and write a petition to the Attorney General saying they want accountability from the Bush administration. Is this an example of this White House giving in to pressure from the left?

MR. GIBBS: I don't -- I have not, and I doubt the President has been on moveon.org in the last 24 hours, so, no.

[Link: www.whitehouse.gov...]

Which, of course, means that the Obama Administration does indeed regularly check the positions of moveon.org.

Obama flip-flops on potential torture prosecutions

President Obama suggested today that it remained a possibility that the Justice Department might bring charges against officials of the Bush administration who devised harsh interrogation policies that some see as torture. …

The Bush-era memos providing legal justifications for enhanced interrogation methods “reflected us losing our moral bearings.” The president said that he did not think it was “appropriate” to prosecute those CIA officers who “carried out some of these operations within the four corners of the legal opinions or guidance that had been provided by the White House.”

But in clear change from language he and members of his administration have used in the past, the president said that “with respect to those who formulated those legal decisions, I would say that is going to be more of a decision for the Attorney General within the parameters of various laws and I don’t want to prejudge that. I think that there are a host of very complicated issues involved there.”

Just yesterday, asked by a reporter as to why the administration was not seeking to “hold accountable” Bush administration lawyers who may have “twisted the law,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said, “the president is focused on looking forward, that’s why.”

When Rev. Jim built the Castle of Her Dreams for Elaine out of his van roof, it broke my heart.

Do you think I have a good memory? Marilu Henner (Elaine on Taxi) definitely has me beat!

She was born with hyperthymesia, a condition that results in her having a perfect memory of every day she's ever lived. Bob Costas once asked her to demonstrate it, and picked the date of the moon landing, July 20, 1969. Her reply? "That was the night I lost my virginity."

All poor Bob Costas could say was, "Well, at least we know Neil Armstrong wasn't the culprit."

Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything...tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him In the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner.. To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on For some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference.
Finally, little Zachary brought home his report Card.. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books.. With great trepidation, His Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, Little Zachary got an 'A' in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said, 'Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?' Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no. 'Well, then,' she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT?' Little Zachary looked at her and said, 'Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren't fooling around.'

You might get it to burn to CD by downloading this.

BIN files are CD/DVD images, and you need the appropriate "burning" software to write it to CD.

Good morning.

The futures are pointing this morning in anticipation of more disappointing profit numbers being released today and later this week.

The market jumped a bit yesterday based on comments by "Taxpro" Timmy Geithner.

Usually, whenever someone from this socialist administration opens their mouths in front of a microphone, the market tanks 4%. But yesterday Geithner said that he thought most banks had plenty of capital and that he would not likely be coming back to Congress for more bail out money for the banks.

Now, I put it at even money that Geithner knows what he is talking about, but the market liked what he said.

re: #241 yesandno

Fraid it is

It's reality.

I'm sure AmeriCorps has done some good work. But seriously, can you name one thing AmeriCorps has done? I can't. So now, suddenly we need to throw $5.7 billion at a virtually unkown program and triple it's size?

Instead of being wasted on a Democrat pet project that will inevitably be used to solidify their power base, that $5.7 billion could have purchased 32 additional F-22 Raptors, increasing the Raptor fleet by 15%, OR fully restored the $1.4 billion slashed from ballistic missile defense AND bought two dozen more Raptors! And, of course, that doesn't even take into account the tens of thousands of high paying private sector engineering, manufacturing, etc. jobs that the F-22 and BMD programs support.

Spending priorities.

/all I can say is that, for all this wasted money, they had better be able to teach these 250,000 "community organizers" to fly so they can achieve air supremacy over the Chinese and Russians and protect American soil against Iranian Missiles and North Korean warheads

245 pittrader1988  Wed, Apr 22, 2009 4:23:26am

Off the cuff, and topics on this thread

I am a little ticked at Perez Hilton. What a set up. I believe that reasonable people can disagree on gay marriage. This is not like slavery. The contestant from California said biblically, she doesn't support gay marriage. She lost. Miss NC won, and said she didn't favor higher taxes.

As the fires have raged here, I think we can agree that we favor separation of church and state. I think Miss CA understood that line very well.

In subsequent interviews, she has exposed herself as a Christian, and she said she doesn't support the bailouts, higher taxes. So is she a right wing wingnut, or does she have a core set of beliefs?

I think that we should have civil unions, and keep marriages in churches. I do believe that marriage in the bible is defined as opposite sexes; but civil law is different than biblical law.

Perez Hilton may have done more to hurt his cause than help it by setting her up.

Credit default swap exposure is shrinking.

Credit Swaps Market Cut to $38 Trillion, ISDA Says

April 22 (Bloomberg) -- Credit-default swap dealers cut the volume of outstanding trades to $38.6 trillion last year as they tore up overlapping contracts amid pressure from regulators to scale down the privately negotiated market and reduce risk.

Outstanding contracts fell 38 percent in 2008, the New York-based International Swaps and Derivatives Association said in a survey released in Beijing today. It’s the first annual decline, after the market increased 100-fold over the previous seven years as investors used the derivatives to protect against bond losses and speculate on creditworthiness.

Traders have been rushing to cancel redundant trades as federal authorities seek to impose regulations on the market for the first time since it was created

a decade ago. After the collapse of Bear Stearns Cos. last year, 17 banks that handled about 90 percent of trading in default swaps agreed to initiatives including trade compression to help reduce day-to- day payments, bank staff paperwork and potential for error.

“In the current environment, firms are intensely focused on shrinking their balance sheets and allocating capital most productively,” said ISDA Chief Executive Robert Pickel, whose group represents dealers that control trading.

More than 2,000 banks, hedge funds and asset managers trading credit-default swaps agreed to a “Big Bang Protocol” this month that aims to improve transparency and confidence in credit-default swaps. It changes the way the swaps are traded so that it’s easier to eliminate offsetting trades and move them through a clearinghouse.

We have a bit of a way to go yet, but this is a significant improvement.

You will notice that this change happened in 2008, before Obama was in office, but watch and see if his administration does not try to take credit for this.

Important change in thinking by Israel:

Israel Puts Iran Issue Ahead of Palestinians

JERUSALEM -- The new Israeli government will not move ahead on the core issues of peace talks with the Palestinians until it sees progress in U.S. efforts to stop Iran's suspected pursuit of a nuclear weapon and limit Tehran's rising influence in the region, according to top government officials familiar with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's developing policy on the issue...

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

Bibi's government is right. The Palestinian issue is one of annoyance whereas the Iranian threat is a threat to the existence of the State.

Of course, the Obama Administration, which, like most Leftists, believe all issues revolve around the Israel- Palestinian problem.

It's a commentary on how our culture is obsessed by appearances.

273 Leonidas Hoplite  Wed, Apr 22, 2009 5:01:00am

Good morning Lizards - here is a link to a great piece by another of my favorite commentators, Dorothy Rabinowitz

In his appearance before employees of the CIA Monday -- part inspirational, part pep rally -- Mr. Obama held forth on the need to improve our image in the world, and on how in adhering to this great nation's principles of justice and right we could only be made safer. He was here to assure the employees of the CIA of his support, to explain, again, the release of those memos. And to describe, as he did, with some eloquence, how great and exceptional a democracy we were.

That no such estimation of the United States managed to infiltrate the content or tone of the president's remarks during his European tour -- nary a hint -- we know, and it is not surprising. He had gone to Europe not as the voice of his nation, but as a missionary with a message of atonement for its errors. Which were, as he perceived them -- arrogance, dismissiveness, Guantanamo, deficiencies in its attitudes toward the Muslim world, and the presidency of Harry Truman and his decision to drop the atomic bomb, which ended World War II.

No sitting American president had ever delivered indictments of this kind while abroad, or for that matter at home, or been so ostentatiously modest about the character and accomplishment of the nation he led.

Since that bridge too far to Europe, ordinary Americans, including some who voted for Mr. Obama, have shown evidence of a quiet but durable resentment over the list of grievances against the United States that the president brought to the world's attention while overseas. There are certain things that can't be taken back. There are images that are hard to forget. Anger of this kind has an enduring power that could, in the end, haunt this presidency.

PROMISES, PROMISES: Obama and black farmers

WASHINGTON (AP) — As a senator, Barack Obama led the charge last year to pass a bill allowing black farmers to seek new discrimination claims against the Agriculture Department. Now he is president, and his administration so far is acting like it wants the potentially budget-busting lawsuits to go away.

The change isn't sitting well with black farmers who thought they'd get a friendlier reception from Obama after years of resistance from President George W. Bush.

"You can't blame it on the Bush administration anymore," said John Boyd, head of the National Black Farmers Association, which has organized the lawsuits. "I can't figure out for the life of me why the president wouldn't want to implement a bill that he fought for as a U.S. senator."

Another reason his poll numbers are falling....down to 54% today.

IIRC, Charles had a front page article on this story last week.

Buchanan had his own 2 cents.

The True Haters

On Good Friday, John Demjanjuk, 89 and gravely ill, was ordered deported to Germany to stand trial as an accessory to the murder of 29,000 Jews — at Sobibor camp in Poland.

Sound familiar? It should. It is a re-enactment of the 1986 extradition of John Demjanjuk to Israel to be tried for the murder of 870,000 Jews — at Treblinka camp in Poland.

How many men in the history of this country have been so relentlessly pursued and remorselessly persecuted?

Muslim woman's appointment as Obama advisor draws cautious optimism

Reporting from Cairo -- Egyptians are cautiously rejoicing over the recent appointment of a veiled Egyptian American Muslim woman as an advisor to President Obama.

Dalia Mogahed, senior analyst and executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, was appointed this month to Obama's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

...The Egyptian-born Mogahed moved with her family to the United States almost 30 years ago. Recently, she co-wrote the book "Who Speaks for Islam?" with John Esposito, an American political science professor who has been criticized by some as an Islamic apologist. Mogahed and Esposito published an opinion piece this month in The Times on American ignorance of Islam and the Muslim world.

From the article...

Yet, Mogahed's declaration that her loyalty goes first to the United States, published Monday in an interview with Al Masry al Youm, disappointed some people.

"I wish your loyalty was to your Islam first, Egypt second and your Arabism third and then to anything else," wrote a reader identifying himself as the Tiger of Arabs. "I am afraid that they might make a fool out of you and use you as a cover for policies that don't serve Egypt and the Arab and Muslim world."

WTF. The United States does not exist to SERVE Egypt or the rest of the Muslim world. If we can get along fine, if we can be helpful with projects and programs that benefit the over all peace in the region, fine, but we don't exist to cater to the whims of a religion that has a mandate to convert the world to their ways.

This attitude sums up the entitlement mentality of many Muslims across the globe. "We come first, we are special and we don't care if about your history or culture, we are the chosen, deal with it."

Chief prosecutor Siri Frigaard told The Associated Press that she will now determine if there are grounds for charges or a police investigation. The Israeli Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (AP)

I think Israel should charge Norway with genocide:

In the middle of the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, there were 2,173 Jews in Norway. At least 775 of these were arrested, detained, and/or deported. 742 were murdered in the camps, 23 died as a result of extrajudicial execution, murder, and suicide during the war; bringing the total of Jewish Norwegian dead to at least 764, comprising 230 complete households[1].

On Tuesday evening the Colorado Springs police officers were dispatched to a disturbance at Galley Apartments on 3600 block of E Unitah.

The information they received was that bail bondsman Bobby Brown and TV personality Duane "Dog" Chapman were attempting to apprehend an individual on a bond revocation. The individual, 35 year-old Hoang Nguyen, had fired at least one shot from a handgun at the bondsman and then fled the area on a motorcycle.

Nguyen was caught and arrested early Wednesday morning without incident by Duane Chapman.

He said yesterday: "I agree that we can't talk forever, that at some point steps have to be taken so that people can see progress on the ground. And that will be something that we will expect to take place in the coming months.

"My hope would be that over the next several months, that you start seeing gestures of good faith on all sides. I don't want to get into the details of what those gestures might be, but I think that the parties in the region probably have a pretty good recognition of what intermediate steps could be taken as confidence-building measures."

Torture and the U.S. Intelligence Failure

The endless argument over torture, the posturing of both critics and defenders, misses the crucial point. The United States turned to torture because it has experienced a massive intelligence failure reaching back a decade. The U.S. intelligence community simply failed to gather sufficient information on al Qaeda’s intentions, capability, organization and personnel. The use of torture was not part of a competent intelligence effort, but a response to a massive intelligence failure.

...Bush was handed an impossible situation on Sept. 11, after just nine months in office. The country demanded protection, and given the intelligence shambles he inherited, he reacted about as well or badly as anyone else might have in the situation. He used the tools he had, and hoped they were good enough.

Yes. Obama has invited Abbas, Mubarak and Netanyahu to Washington for a steaming bowlful of Hope'n'Change.

So he won't meet Netanyahu at that conference but he'll let him come for a big photo opportunity meeting at the White House that he'll call a summit. I shudder to think what kind of gifts he'll give them all. He'll probably give Abbas and Mubarak a dog and Netanyahu...I don't even want to guess.

It was disgusting yesterday when the King of Jordan was doing a press conference with O. The Hussein from Jordan was working in the "hope" to his prepared comments.

The King didn't have to add anything since he agreed with everything Obama said. That's pathetic when an non-democratic King feels the President of the US speaks for him:

The King's comments after meeting with Obama:

KING ABDULLAH: I couldn't have said it better myself, Mr. President. I think we're looking now at the -- at the positives and not the negatives and seeing how we can sequence events over the next couple of months that allows Israelis and Palestinians and Israelis and Arabs to sit around the table and move this process forward.

Somali Piracy: The Minnesota Connection

One might think that a Somali pirate, captured in the Indian Ocean and brought to the United States to stand trial, would be without friends, allies and financial supporters in this country. But no: it turns out that a veritable Pirates' Aid Society exists, right here in Minnesota.

We've written about the connections between the Somali community here in the Twin Cities (the nation's largest) and Somali terrorists. Similarly, local activists evidently have ties to the "pirate community" in Somalia. Today's Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:

Twin Cities activist Omar Jamal said Tuesday he has helped ensure that a suspected pirate is treated justly while in federal custody in New York. ...

Jamal, executive director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul, said that he spoke Monday with the parents of suspected pirate Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse and that he has been consulting with Muse's attorneys.

The Strib article implies that Jamal's organization is helping to pay for the pirate's legal defense, but that isn't stated explicitly. Where would the Somali Justice Advocacy Center get the money to send to New York to help defend the pirate? In part, at least, from Minnesota taxpayers

The images of that trip, in which Mr. Obama dazzled ecstatic Europeans with citations of the offenses against international goodwill and humanity committed by the nation he leads, are now firmly imprinted on the minds of Americans. That this is so, and that it is not good news for him, is truth of a kind not quite fathomable to this president and his men.

I had damage to my roof a few years back from a hail storm. It too needed to be replaced. However, they took off for deprecation since the old roof was older than 10 years or something like that. Replacement value doesn't necessarily means replacement value. It costs me more to replace than the check I received from the insurance company.

re: #360 MJ Hey MJ, it's not so much that the media were played for the lap dogs that they were, it's just that the LEFT has proposed nothing affirmative in nature since George W. Bush took office on January 20, 2001. NOTHING of Affirmative value. The constant drumbeat of Bush STOLE the election from Gore who couldn't even win his own state (and if he had he'd have been elected POTUS and no one would care about Florida at all) and after CHARLES exposed the MSM - or at least Dan Rather, Mary Mapes and 60 Minutes of literally trying to throw the election to Kerry in '04 with the forged TANG documents ("Rathergate") it's been nothing but bash Bush and his administration day in and day out. No one was asking the Democrats (in the minority in 2001 and 2002 with a Rep. President, House and Senate) to come up with "positive ideas" in order to remain a viable party. Nothing but a constant, unceasing drumbeat of how bad Bush was. How bad Rumsfeld and Cheney were. Caricatures of Bush as Hitler. Protests and protest marches covered like a rug by the MSM (and connections of those marches with ANSWER and other "disaffected" left over anti-Vietnam War clowns without one word of complaint or comparison by the MSM about how they organized those protests, etc., all because of Bush Derangement Syndrome and you know what? IT FUCKING WORKED. We wound up with a totally unqualified and unprepared person as POTUS, a person so ignorant that he's now having doubts about Afghanistan - you know, the nation that openly stated Osama bin Laden was hiding there and they wouldn't turn him over, so Bush leads us to Afghanistan and takes it over in what, 9 weeks or so after 9/11 and what does the MSM portray - what an incredible military we have to be able to pull this off? NO, what the MSM portrays is how many Afghan citizens WE killed.
And then Iraq - and btw, do you remember Valerie Plame now? What about "Scooter Libby"? No we're now back to investigating some of those who gave the legal ok to "torture" the prisoners at GITMO - and never mind the fact that Nancy Pelosi and other high ranking DEMS were given complete and full briefings on these interrogation techniques starting back in '05 and never said a damn negative word about them. And ONLY the right was "troubled" by John Fucking Murtha's betrayal of those Marines, only the right was "troubled" by the capture of Iranian Quds in Iraq teaching - sometimes by example - the "insurgents" how to kill American troops and it all got brushed away with BDS.
The American Left - if it had ANY conscience at all, would be embarrassed by the lack of journalistic ethics and responsibility they demonstrated, on a daily basis, against Bush and the Republicans.
Well Obama won't be POTUS forever, and whenever he leaves office, I'm sure that any "malfeasance" on the part of Rahm Emmanual, Timothy Geitherner, Eric Holder and others will be just as thoroughly investigated.
Thank you SO MUCH Mr. President "hope and change" Obama.
Thanks a lot.

It sounds like something posted to the data base wrong, and Charles sequence numbers got rogered at some point.

Sequence number - a unique number attached to a data record - no two sequence numbers can be the SAME in a table (or a whole data base).

re: #426 realwest

Hey MJ, it's not so much that the media were played for the lap dogs that they were, it's just that the LEFT has proposed nothing affirmative in nature since George W.
Thanks a lot.

this deserves o be read twice.

/mad applause

Not only did "BDS" work, the Left and the media cleverly shifted (post-election) the goal line so that ALL criticism of Obama is somehow indicative of the very "derangement" that they nurtured and now decry.
Useful idiots have fallen in line with the meme and now even small public gatherings of people concerned about the economy are labeled "racist" and "insane" by both the Left and the criticism-phobic "middle".

Consider the practical details"

Who in NATO will send the troops?

Turkey and the UK have large enough armies to send some troops, but they both have some "history" in the region which makes their involvement problematic.

France? Get serious.

Germany? Let me put this as delicately as I can: there is no way the Israeli public will accept German troops. Ever.

That leaves the US and a handful of troops from each of the smaller NATO countries. The Pali terrorists already equate the Zionists with US imperialism. So that won't work either.

Morning guys. I need some advice. My roof was blown off during a windstorm 2 months ago. My insurance adjuster (outside adjuster for Kentucky Farm Bureau) estimated replacement at $2800. I received a check from them for $2300. ($500 deductible). All estimates come in at $3700-3800. KY Farm still owes me $1000. Right? I have been calling them for months and am not getting anywhere.I have 3 tarps on my roof and spring in KY can be very wet. Any suggestions. I'm at my wits end.

You could complain to your states insurance commissioner, or get a lawyer, and another insurance company. Or, depending on the limit, take them to small claims court.
If you get a lawyer, be prepared for them not to renew your policy.
Of course, if they're like this, you probably don't want to keep them anyway.

The acting chief financial officer of mortgage finance giant Freddie Mac was found dead Wednesday morning at his home, police said.

David Kellermann's death "may have been an apparent suicide," said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for police in Fairfax County, Virginia. She said there were no signs of foul play when officers arrived at the home in Vienna shortly before 5 a.m.

If you can't get anywhere with your company, talk to a lawyer. It has been my experience that the insurance companies will try to screw you out of pocket change, and they are willing to spend a few million dollars in order to screw you out of a little pocket change. I could go on and on about what crooks Tennessee Farmers' Mutual is, and I have a Tennessee State Supreme Court decision to support my contention that they screwed me.

I can't tell you on your case, or even if you have a case. I'd talk to a lawyer before I just ate the overage. And I hate the legal system. Things had to be better when you would meet in a clearing at dawn and just tried to kill each other.

There is an intermediate option. Call a "private or public adjuster". The public adjuster works on a contingency basis (usually 20%). Public adjusters are usually former insurance employees and know how to play the game. If that does not work...call a lawyer.

Powers takes the "peacekeepers" idea even further. She thinks they should be used to force Israel into accepting "peace". In other words, armed NATO troops will occupy Israel and enforce the "peace plan".

But only enforcing the "peace plan" by stopping Israel. Of course, if the Palis tried to attack Israel with tanks and planes, then they might do something, but as long as it is some terrorist group and not clearly the Pali "government", they'd do nothing.

Of course, the Palis will block any attempt to really create state as long as Israel is around.
Do the Palis really want a state?

Hey everyone. Let's help get the word out:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In the wake of worldwide accusations of widespread Israeli atrocities towards civilians in Gaza, an ad-hoc team of researchers has discovered that many of the so-called "civilian" casualties in Gaza were, in fact, Arab terrorists.

In March, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights released a seemingly comprehensive list of people killed in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead. This list described the victims as either "militant" or "civilian," and determined that out of 1417 dead, 926 were civilians. These numbers were publicized widely throughout the world as the definitive list of casualties, and were used as proof that the Israel Defense Forces were using indiscriminate and disproportionate force.

A team of independent researchers from the United States, Germany and the Netherlands has been finding many problems with the PCHR methodology. Using newspaper articles, descriptions of the victims on Hamas websites and other sources, this team has so far identified that over 125 of the so-called "civilians" were, in fact, active members of terror groups.

"The PCHR seems to have used a deliberately narrow definition of 'civilian,'" says the pseudonomous Elder of Ziyon, leader of the team, who has been publishing their findings on his website. "Hamas military commanders and leaders who were clearly legitimate targets are not being counted as "militants" by the PCHR, even as Hamas lauds them as long-time members of the Qassam Brigades terror group."

Further analysis from the team reveals that the initial claims by the UN, PCHR, Palestinian Health Ministry and others that there were 30-50 victims of Israeli shelling outside the Jabalya UNRWA school in January were untrue. The PCHR's list agrees with the IDF's claims of only 12 victims. Even so, the claim of dozens of phantom victims is still on the PCHR website.

The team is compiling the results of their research in real time, fully transparently, on the Elder of Ziyon website at [Link: elderofziyon.com....] The centerpiece of the research is a living document that is listing all of the terrorists that the PCHR considers "civilian" along with links to the webpages that prove their affiliation to known terror groups, often with biographies and photos. The final results will be published and available for review.

Washington Signal Softer Tone on Hamas

Barack Obama’s administration is trying to smooth the way for aid to a Palestinian government backed by Hamas in a striking contrast to the policy of George W. Bush, the former president, who sought to bring down any such government.

In a request for more than $800m in US funds for the West Bank and Gaza, the administration has asked Congress to soften rules for granting assistance to the Palestinians, to prevent disruption of aid in the event of a national unity government being formed.

The move has attracted criticism from Republicans and could increase tension with Israel’s new government, already at odds with Washington over the refusal by Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister, to endorse a two state solution.

Note to Obama: Hamas does not endorse a two state solution. Why do you want them to join the Palestinian gov't and give them money?

The amount needed for letters is quite small, but the amount for an attack, especially in rural areas, is much larger. One building with an air intake would be a softer target, but a large area is something else.

It's possible, since the equipment needed to grow the bacteria and process it has enough other uses, unlike nuclear processing equipment, and with enough of a quantity, I can come up with a way to disperse it in a rural area - although something would look a little out of the ordinary.
Also, rural areas with smaller populations would notice someone different doing the job I'm thinking of.

A lot depends on what the payoff is; the deaths in a rural area would be smaller and probably not cause as much fear.

Yeah.
What's going on here is that the Obama Administration wants to give "aid" to a Palestinian"unity" government which would include Hamas. Hamas then would have access to that money.
This Administration is looking for ways to support Hamas just as the previous Administration gave Hamas the legitimacy it needed by allowing it to participate in elections.

Govt hikes top income tax rate to 50% (Britain)

The government will increase its top rate of income tax to a higher than expected 50 percent from next year, Chancellor Alistair Darling said on Wednesday as he delivered the government's annual budget.

The tax band had originally been due to rise to 45 percent from 40 percent in April 2011 as Britain seeks to claw back lost tax revenue caused by a deep recession.

The 50-percent rate will apply to any income above 150,000 pounds.

"In November, I announced a new rate of income tax of 45 percent on incomes above 150,000 pounds -- the top one percent of taxpayers," Darling said in his budget speech.

"In order to help pay for additional support for people now, I have decided that the new rate will be 50 percent and will come in from next April -- a year earlier."

If you mean the Saudi peace (through the slow destruction of Israel) plan, no one in the MFMSM seems to have read it or thought through it.
They keep parroting that it calls for a "just solution" for the "refugees".

It specifies the "just solution" based on UN resolution 194, from 1948, which calls for all refugees who want to live in peace to be able to return to their homes, if they want to, and get compensation if they don't.

Then the Saudi plan goes on to say that all repatriation should take into account the "special circumstances of the Arab countries".

In other words, the Arabs aren't going to take anyone; they'll find the only place that has to take them is Israel and the Palestinian state, wherever their "home" was in 1948. In other words, they mostly end up in Israel, and it becomes another Arab state.

That's the short version of my analysis of the plan.

Brazilian President Lula, on the cause of the financial crises:

"This was a crisis that was fostered and boosted by irrational behaviour of people that are white, blue-eyed, that before the crisis looked like they knew everything about economics,’ he declared.

‘Now they have demonstrated that they don’t know anything about economics.’

President Lula, head of Brazil’s main left-wing party, said that ‘no black man or woman, no indigenous person, no poor person’ had been in any way culpable for the global banking crisis.

Well, at least he's a friend of Obama's and therefore, not a racist.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. Today is Earth Day (although, isn't every day earth day, just like every day should be Mother's Day and Father's Day (via the 5th Commandment)). PSE&G - a utility in NJ, now says that they want to see Congress impose a carbon tax.

The insanity must stop.

If the eco-left is serious about stopping emissions, do something about it. Get out of the way and start construction of new nuclear power plants that can generate sufficient power to run electric cars and eliminates smokestack emissions.

Otherwise, this is all just another tax redistribution scheme that benefits no one except a few who can game the system that the rest of us will pay for in the form of higher energy costs and higher costs for goods and services.

At the same time, a offshore wind farm project that is a partnership between PSE&G and another group is being delayed by a year. Really? Why the delay? If reducing emissions are so vital, why the delay?

a somewhat moonbatty Pink Floyd album, The Final Cut, but the song included the lines:

I liked that album. It did lean heavily on the moonbatty stuff - e.g., equating Thatcher with Latin American dictators - but there was a relevant moral question underlying it: What are we doing to earn the sacrifice of those who perished in WWII defending civilization?

And there was at least one hard slap at that darling of the British left - the IRA - in "The Gunner's Dream", about what the post-war world was supposed to look like:

You can relax
on both sides of the tracks
And maniacs
don't blow holes

That's the cliffhanger. This is after she prays to God and God fails her. Our daughter is one of 3 LDS girls in the 1200 student high school - and people said to her, "Ohhh...should we be afraid of you now?"

One of my neighbors died in January. Darned inconsiderate of him, I think. After all, it takes years to train one's neighbors to a sufficient level of neighborlyness and for one to up and die after all that work just speaks to the dastardly 'me first' attitude so prevelant in today's society.

Anyway. The new neighbor came to me yesterday and said that he wanted to pave his drive and wanted me to help pay for it. The drive curves into my property for about 50 yards. I declined, as I can't afford to pave my own drive, and see no real reason to pay to pave his. On thing lead to another and the fellow finally stated his intention to pave the thing and simply bill me for 'my share'.

So I said fine, do as you think best. I think that the best option for me is to post my property and let you figure out how to get home without trespassing. The gentleman came around to my way of thinking, and we parted, if not friendly, at least neighborly.

Stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is an "imperative" for the United States, which is taking a more active role in pursuing that goal, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday.

Testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Clinton cited Iran and its nuclear program as among the administration's highest-priorities.

"We are deploying new approaches to the threat posed by Iran and we're doing so with our eyes wide open and with no illusions," she said.

The hatred that caused the holocaust is not dead.

Please keep us in your prayers as we pursue political action against our local high school for allowing an author to make an Anti-LDS presentation in which the main character of the book, the exact demographic as our teenage daughter, in a faith-induced rage, decides to murder her parents, her bishop, and her congregation via a mass shooting- or commit suicide. That's the cliffhanger. This is after she prays to God and God fails her. Our daughter is one of 3 LDS girls in the 1200 student high school - and people said to her, "Ohhh...should we be afraid of you now?"

Thats abominable.
Not saying what I'd do to that author - but its noteworthy that he/she choose an LDS girl.
Girl - because everybody is now sooo feministic. Boy is soo last year ...
Faith - hm, can't have a muslima, for obvious reasons, can't have any of the mainstream Christian faith traditions - too big an outcry; can't use the Amish for obvious reason - well, lookit here, LDS is the 'perfect' option ...

Some people haven't got the sense they're born with - and that author is one of them.

I hope your daughter will be ok, and good luck with that action!

Must read of the day....

Thought Police in Britian

In September 2006, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, Codie Stott, asked a teacher if she could sit with another group to do a science project as all the girls with her spoke only Urdu. The teacher's first response, according to Stott, was to scream at her: "It's racist, you're going to get done by the police!" Upset and terrified, the schoolgirl went outside to calm down. The teacher called the police and a few days later, presumably after officialdom had thought the matter over, she was arrested and taken to a police station, where she was fingerprinted and photographed. According to her mother, she was placed in a bare cell for 3 1/2 hours. She was questioned on suspicion of committing a racial public order offence and then released without charge. The school was said to be investigating what further action to take, not against the teacher, but against Stott. Headmaster Anthony Edkins reportedly said: "An allegation of a serious nature was made concerning a racially motivated remark. We aim to ensure a caring and tolerant attitude towards pupils of all ethnic backgrounds and will not stand for racism in any form."

Egyptian intelligence minister invites Barak to Cairo
Published: 04.22.09, 17:33 / Israel News
Egyptian Intelligence Minister Omar Suleiman invited Defense Minister Ehud Barak to meet President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo.

The invitation was extended during the two's meeting in Jerusalem. Barak reportedly assured Suleiman that Israel's relations with Egypt were "of the utmost importance." (Roni Sofer)

And not foreign Minister Lieberman? Shocka!

Egypt is having a lot of trouble with Hamas and Hizballah; I think this might be a meeting to coordinate dealing with them.
Remember, these are offshoots of the Muslim Brotherhood, which wants to take over Egypt.

Yep. In the book, the father is a gun-crazed violent sociopath Vietnam vet, the mother a lazy ignorant "baby making factory" and the bishop suggests physical violence against the girl. By the end of the book - any sane person would hate these people, and the faith.

A carbon tax would increase the price of beer; the fizz in beer is CO2.

And, not to violate the equal protection clause, breathing out and farting would have to be taxed also, along with farmers liming the soil to get the correct Ph.

All madness of course.

I think there was an article yesterday on Fox accusing overweight people of causing more CO2 than thin people. These people are whack-jobs. Next we'll read about a 'fat tax'.

One of my neighbors up and died on me earlier this year. Darned inconsiderate of him given the years of work that it takes to train a good neighbor, for one to just up and die seems to exemplify the whole 'me first' attitude that is so prevelent in today's society.

Anyway. The fellow that bought the property came to me yesterday and said that he wanted to pave his drive, and since the drive curved onto my property for about 30 yards he felt that I should share in the cost. I said that since I couldn't afford to pave my own drive I certainly wasn't going to help pay to pave his drive.

One thing lead to another and I finally just said, Okay, what I obviously need to do is post my property and let you figure out how to get home without trespassing.

He thought a moment, then said that maybe his wife would be happy with one of those white-gravel drives, and that he could afford that himself.

We'll become good friends, I'll bet.

That's right. I guess Israel is not a real country - in the eyes of most of the world it is obviously OK to treat it as something less.

I think it is high time for Netanyahu to put an end to this bullcrap. He ought to tell Egypt that they must deal with Lieberman, and while he's at it he should tell the whole freaking world that since Jerusalem is the ONLY capital city of Israel they have 1 year to move their embassies to Jerusalem or else they can shut down and move out.
