Bad Craziness Watch: Glenn Beck Fans and Swine Flu Conspiracies

Moonbats • Views: 23,920

A sampling of comments from Fox News rising star Glenn Beck’s official 912 Project website, from the thread titled, “Swine Flu?”

There are currently 369 comments in the thread, almost all of them raving about conspiracies.

[…]IF ONE PERSON IN MY FAMILY DIES FROM THIS FLU I WILL HOLD OUR GOVERMENT RESPONSIBLE! ALL OF THEM!

-

So this strain has Swine, bird and human flu. My question is, who is messing around? This has to be genetically altared. I do not believe for a second this could mutate with three different strands. I believe they are doing this in hopes of a massive breakout. That way they can fast track the “universal healthcare”. If millions become sick, they would be forced to give treatment on a large scale. Who knows what else could be in this shot. Our own government is trying to kill us.

-

OK, there are a few weird things going on here…
3 missing vials of swine flu from the Army Lab at Fort Detrick, MD. and the fact that CNN reports this story on their website and NEVER ONCE mentions the words “swine flue” in the article! Why is that? Are they trying to cover something up?

Roger…Roger…I think we found the source of one of the ingredients in our little pandemic cocktail! […]

-

[…]Today on a positive note swine flu was found in the two states of the union that most people would not mind vanishing off the face of the earth. The ugly part is that due to lax rules at the border it has been allowed across our border. The bad part is it will probably spread across the rest of the country eventually giving Obama the ability to declare Marshall law. […]

-

Has any one noticed the Media is not talking much about this now.
Normally if 1 person any where in the world die from something like this,
they report and re-report and re-report
Bird Pig and Human viruses mixed. this is a lab creation People.
Wake UP!

-

[…] Sense Porkulus Pigamus spewed change we can believe in I think he should be wide open to any and all pork jokes. Now monkey jokes I could understand

-

Here we go! strap it on tight this may be the ride of our lives. I like how there are 3 strains of flu swine , avian , and human. the cdc has never seen anything like this b4. seems like there is something to this. can you imagine 5 years from know and looking back ,and this is how it all started. this seems more like a bio weapon then just some mutation. we are going to look back and remember these cases popping up here and there then wham its on your doorstep.

-

Quarantines on the horizon? Depy. of Homeland Security? They said “Never let a crisis go to waste.”

-

Remember folks, it is fear that is running this country. I would ask you all, what would happen if this so called “pandemic” where to occur? Come on think about it.
Under the threat of a national epidemic, who would take power? What agency could possibly take away every right you have ever had? Quarantines would just be the beginning.
FEMA!

-

I find this just so ironically funny, how absolutely perfect would it be if Nancy Pelosi gets the Swine Flu? It would be funny on so many levels. First, because she is in fact, the Biggest “SWINE” in the United States and Second, she just absolutely adores Illegal Immigrants from Mexico and told them that they were the Most Patriotic people in America, so I would just find it hysterically funny if she were one of the victims of this new plague. NO ONE WOULD DESERVE IT MORE.

Bad craziness? Too many hours under kleig lights and not enough time spent reading up on this stuff? That's probably the best explanation, because there's no reason to believe any of this crap.

Sign on to this crap and you'll reek of the stink. It doesn't matter if he sounds reasonable on some other issue - bad crazy is bad crazy.

Beck suffers bad crazy something serious.

Seriously, swine flu is bad stuff but it occurs naturally and mutates regularly - which is why it is so difficult to treat flu from year to year because the mutations make it immune to anti-virals and human immunity is unable to cope until exposed.

It could be a whole lot worse, but it's to date not all that more dangerous that the average flu that hits worldwide and kills 500,000 annually and hits millions with its effects. What has experts concerned is that this version is hitting people who are in good health particularly hard (usually it's old, infirm, and young 'uns who suffer disproportionately from the worst effects).

In sum, Beck is bad crazy; swine flu is bad; be prepared for medical emergencies in general and most of all - don't panic.

Here's someone on the Glenn Beck forum suggesting that disease carriers infiltrated the Tea Parties, and then started spreading it on the wind! The crazy tide is rising.

I heard at least 2 kids in San Antonio had it. I don't know whether this is true or not, but here I go... What if they sent biological terrorist plants to spread the flu at the Alamo Tea Party? Stand up Texans and defend your border. The influx of disease carriers are headed our way. I'm no Biologist, but I cannot see how this can possibly be a normal mutation if it contains swine, bird, and human attack mechanisms. Airborne, so now we watch the low pressure systems and weather patterns coming out of The Great Lone Star State, and pray.

The beginning of the end was when "hard news" went "for profit". Ratings drives news content now instead of dispassionate reporting. Fox has shrewdly (surely they they don't believe their BS) staked out the "right" side of the market and the remainder of the market (left side) is being fought over by the MSM and the other cable news programs.

Here is where it's gets funny...the MSM, CNN, and MSNBC evidently have not realized that this is a center-right country and they are fighting with each other over the smaller pie slice of leftist viewers/readers. There lies bankruptcy.

Freedom of the Press has devolved into incitement and hype for profit. The Founding Fathers should have seen that coming in a capitalist society.

What to do....what to do...

re: #62 PSGInfinity

Woodside Deli has some of the best matzoh-ball soup in the area... perhaps I should get a vaccination.

Chicken soup is always good for the soul and the constitution.

Good places in the NYC metro area: 2d avenue deli (Manhattan); Goldens' (Staten Island); mom's homemade chicken soup (address withheld); and lawhawk's special chicken soup (recipe as follows):

Several pieces of chicken (use what ever is on hand, I usually have boneless breasts, but dark meat usually imparts more flavor).

Chicken gets browned and carmelized to start. Add chicken stock (or water) . Add onion, celery, parsnip, oregano, parsley, basil, and cayenne pepper and hot sauce. On the cayenne pepper and hot sauce, do it to taste (you can always add this at the end, but with colds and congestion, the hot sauce and spice definitely helps clear the sinuses). You can always add a pinch of cayenne to start to let it simmer with the rest of the broth, and add more as a finish with plating.

Noodles may be cooked separately and added in.
Ditto for matzah balls or kreplach.

Three Mexican Men tried to enter the store through the automatic exit door, as my wife and I approached the CORRECT entrance that was clearly marked ENTER she said "I really can not stand all these immigrants that can not speak English", they were talking in Mexican. So I said in a fairly loud manner "Well the door says ENTER not ENTERO and EXITO so of course they could easily get confused".

This guy thinks Mexicans speak "Mexican." The correct word is spanish and for all he and his wife knew they could have been from Honduras. He goes on to complain about other customers looking at him and his wife -- no doubt they were being belligerent.

re: #99 anchors_aweigh

The media have ALWAYS existed for profit. ALWAYS. It's a business just like any other.

Recentish story about my hood, which has some really awesome delis.

Nosh by the Mile in Pikesville

With a lifetime of pastrami pilgrimages under my belt, I have learned this much: There is good deli, and there is great deli.

Baltimore's northwest suburban community of Pikesville, home to more than 4,000 Orthodox Jewish families and a shopping mecca for the 100,000 Jews who live in the area, is a place that has plenty of both, along with the just so-so. Most of the 40 or 50 kosher and kosher-style businesses are concentrated on or near a mile-long stretch of Reisterstown Road that ought to have an unofficial moniker but doesn't.

Working one's way across the strip could take years and cause considerable heartburn. Luckily, I was able to tap into a higher power, in the form of native son Eli W. Schlossberg, who offered a guided tour.

If the flu kills 500,000 annually why is there any "war on drugs." Period.
Doing drugs is bad cause it'll mess you up, and even kill you, has been the gov't reasoning for decades. I don't think the number of drug deaths (street drugs) comes close to the flu. So why the fuss?

Right. Dialects. I remember once someone regarded speaking in Spanish as speaking in Mexican. I'm from Argentina and I almost lost control but let it slide. I've heard people say it before. In fact my ex-girlfriend's mother said that once: "Oh, they speak Mexican."

National Health Care With 51 Votes

Late last week President Barack Obama and Democratic congressional leaders agreed to use "budget reconciliation" if necessary to jam a massive health-care bill through Congress.

Most Americans probably greeted this news with the glazed eyes and yawns that should rightfully accompany any discussion of "the federal budget process" longer than 30 seconds. But this decision is a deeply troublesome attempt to circumvent the normal and customary workings of American democracy.

It's a radical departure from congressional precedent, in which budget rules have been designed and used to reduce deficits, not expand the size of government. And it promises bitter divisiveness under an administration that has made repeated promises to reach across the partisan divide.

Reconciliation was established in 1974 as a procedure to make modest adjustments to mandatory spending such as farm programs, student loans and Medicare that were already well established in law. Over the past 35 years, it has been used only 22 times -- and three of those bills were vetoed. There are good reasons it has been used so rarely.

I don't think republicans have been "Paulified".

I think they have to build up to a level of internet proficiency on par with the democrats, MoveOn, Kos, Beck, etc. They also have to do better or work around the mainstream media and their bias.

But most importantly the Republicans have to find their message.

They have a lot of challenges ahead of them, but I'm sure they will rise to the challenge. If they keep an eye on anti-idiocy sites like this, I think they'll get an idea of what the majority of people want.

This guy thinks Mexicans speak "Mexican." The correct word is spanish and for all he and his wife knew they could have been from Honduras. He goes on to complain about other customers looking at him and his wife -- no doubt they were being belligerent.

Entero -- yikes. He even invents "spanish" words.

and that, of course, is the problem. and I just don't get why people can't see that, and will run to defend these lunatics and racists because they supposedly are "our" lunatics and racists.

I don't want pet lunatics and racists, and it shocks me that anybody of good conscience would, and that they would think it somehow is required to try to make a coalition with them.

I don't want to be on Bernardine Dohrn's team, and I don't want to be on Lew Rockwell's team. period.

re: #266 Shay4l

I was out of town the last 5 days visiting relatives in Va, but the Washington Post article I read said that it was affecting healthy adults and 80 had died in Mexico City. That is a lot more serious than some people seem to think on this thread.

It's very, very serious; however, the definition of "healthy adult" here in the USA and in Mexico is different.

That's why we should not have unfettered migration across the southern border even when there isn't a swine flu outbreak down there. Mexico is a poor, third world country with a medically underserved population, many of whom work in unsanitary and dangerous conditions.

I don't think they have released socio-economic data on the folks who died of the flu vs those who have recovered, but I would guess the deaths have occurred primarily among the poor who don't get to the hospital until they have secondary infections (or raging pre-existing TB) going in their lungs.

Yeah, I could be wrong, of course.

That said, I'm in the process of cancelling some travel plans. My octogenarian grandma was planning a couple of plane trips in and out of San Diego with the family, and it's not smart for her to do that right now.

My daughter is supposed to go on a school trip to Los Angeles next weekend, and I am pretty sure that won't happen either, as the kids were all going to be in a chartered bus for hours on the way there an back, and were all going to stay 4 to a room at a motel and eat fast food, etc.

I'm not a Beckian lunatic, but I don't go looking for trouble either.

278 Skinless Frank  Sun, Apr 26, 2009 9:49:15pm

This is nuts. New flu strains, as opposed to variants on existing strains, come from where flu hosts are in close contact. Those hosts are humans, pigs, and birds. We see this most often in southern China, where farmers raise ducks and pigs around the same pond. It's interesting that Mexico was the origin of this latest strain, but certainly not out of the question, since similar agricultural practices can be found there. That this gibbering whack job would suggest a conspiracy involving genetic engineering is nowhere near as surprising as that there are enough drooling imbeciles in this fallen world as to afford him a measurable audience.

Smarten up, citizens: bad things happen without evil conspiracies bringing them into fruition. In many important aspects, life sucks. No one has to make it suck, it just does and always has; the challenge is to make it suck less.

The 912 board (linked from Beck's pages) supposedly has moderators, and indeed some threads over there are closed.

The uncomfortable fact for you Beck fans out there is that Beck markets himself to Paulians, Birchers, and other assorted socially marginal folk. Is it all a schtick or is it the "real" Glenn Beck? Only he knows for sure, but all I can do is judge him on what he says and the company he keeps.

this is the crazy hysteria of uneducated nut cases, w/ an agenda, who have obviously been waiting eagerly for an opportunity to show their ignorance.
we had a terrible flu in 1918 that killed hundreds of thousands of people.
viruses are out there now in nature all over the world, replicating, waiting.
flu is known to mutate and jump from species to species. it was just a matter of
time until another strain emerged to threaten humans.
it is amazing how people will look for anything to use as evidence for their crazy
ideas.

Not to let anyone off the hook, but the media and lazy scientists are partly to blame here. There are dozens and dozens of strains of flu, each type containing sections that are found in others. Virus genomes are very tiny, the number of proteins that make up the organism number around 20.

Reading these stories always make me cringe, because the way researchers are quoted it does indeed make it sound like some genetic experiment because that’s how scientists see the evolution of infectious agents, as a large in vivo experiment. Unfortunately the media are either unaware or don’t care to explain.

295 secondcoming  Mon, Apr 27, 2009 6:28:01am

I saw a good post over there:

"jpehrlich 0p · 1 day ago

Whoa there folks! I lurk over at the Huff Po and the leftist wing-nuts are going wild with insults, disgusting "jokes" and total mis-information regarding the swine flu.
I come back here to one of my fav websites only to find half the comments here are off the deep end. What gives?!

I have spent the majority of my career as a health care professional with a specialty in infectious disease and here is what I know:
Three strains mutating into one virus is NOT UNUSUAL nor is it a man-made weaponized disease. It happens in nature. One non-viral example you may be familiar with: MRSA "super bug" that has evolved in our hospitals..a staph-strep mutations that is antibiotic resistant.
Pandemic flu hits the 25 to 45 year old hardest because their immune systems OVER react and the mortality rate soars. . Actually children and the healthy elderly recover in greater percentages.
It takes approximately 14 to 18 months to develope flu vaccine.
This is NOT flu season. If this is truly going to be a pandemic the time line will most likely be that the virus will cause sickness at a steady pace over the summer then beginning next November it will go into over drive.

Conspiracy theories are NOT helpful to anyone with a concern for their families. Now is the time to educate yourselves to precaution and prevention should this ramp up."

re: #232 Cato the Elder

By the way, people, I meant to say this on the last pigs flew thread:

Don't waste your money on that "hand sanitizer" crap. It's just a weak, jellied ethyl alcohol (ca. 45%, if I recall correctly) with lots of extra reek from the people who brought you Lucky Tiger aftershave, and it costs three bucks for a weensy bottle.

Get a big bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol (what the doc uses to swab your skin b4 he gives you autism a booster shot) and use conservatively liberally after hand-washing. Follow with your favorite hand cream, if you're the sensitive type.

Actually Cato, most reputable gels (e.g. Purell) are a minimum of 65% ethyl alcohol and quite effective against most bacteria and enveloped viruses (incl. influenza.) There are a few 75% alcohol gels out there, and these are more effective still, but harder to find and not really necessary. Soap and water are the most effective (and will eliminate bacterial spores and non-enveloped viruses), but have 2 problems a) they are less convenient (you can carry a squeeze bottle of alcohol gel anywhere,) b) frequent use (like in hospitals) can chap your hands.
Similarly, liquid isopropyl alcohol is quite unnecessary, inconvenient, and can chap your skin and occasionally cause dermatitis. If that sounds like a minor problem remember - even mildly disturbed skin integrity can increase bacterial bioburden 10X.
BTW, I echo #278, Skinless Frank. Mixing avian, porcine and human strains is exactly how new flu epidemics always occur. The virus genome is divided into cassettes that can be easily substituted when brought into contact with other strains, such as happens when pigs, chickens, and humans cohabit. Its called genetic shift and it is teh scary.

299 MightySkip  Mon, Apr 27, 2009 7:58:14am

re: #296 elanagtx

That episode has since been largely considered false. Algeria is one of the few places in the world where plague is naturally occurring and suffers outbreaks. There has been little evidence found to verify some secret terrorist bioweapons facility in Algeria, even a unsophisticated one.

That doesn't mean the threat doesn't exist mind you, but that incident appears to be a false alarm.

300 twobru  Mon, Apr 27, 2009 8:01:08am

Not to be a Beck apologist, but I have to concur with bj1126's post. Beck made it pretty clear during the 20 minutes or so that I listened to his radio show while driving to work that: (a) the swine flu is a natural occurrence; (b) flu pandemics have occurred naturally throughout human history and are often started when different strains of the virus mutate and cross over from animals such as pigs or birds to humans; (c) given the passage of time since the last flu pandemic, the world is probably overdue for another one; (d) he has no idea whether this outbreak of swine flu is the start of a pandemic; (e) rather than getting hysterical or caught up in conspiracy theories, people should educate themselves and make sure that they are prepared in case there is a pandemic; and (f) the government has so far responded appropriately to the current outbreak.

I'm not a huge Beck fan. He's on the local station here about the time I drive to work so I hear the first 5-10min of his show. I never am able to catch the fox show since it comes on before I leave the office.

He is a bit out there and emotional and the crazy clingers are attracted to that. Lately though it has been ratcheted up more than a few notches and I would like to think he's having trouble coming up with a way to confront it in good way. If I were in his position I'd be looking for a way to redirect the more well meaning people toward a more sane and constructive avenue.

The fact is, conspiracy theories are bunk. To have 'conspiracies' as big as 9/11, or the emergning swine flu, or even the Kennedy assasination fantasies, you have to have a LOT of people keeping their mouths closed.

Doesn't happen. People talk. They like to talk. There's no talk from supposed 'participants' in these conspiracies.

But to the trwoo believers, its just too easy to believe in 'forces' rather than reality. sigh.

Tell me the last time that I got a complaint that we were taking things too lightly. I think we've done our job. Tammy, thank you very much for your phone call. If you'd like information on it, I've had my team, my research team last night, I wrote them about 4:00 yesterday afternoon and I said, I want a comprehensive Web page on everything that you would need to know about the swine flu, what you need to do, who you need to see, what it means, what the history is of it, absolutely everything you could possibly want to know on one Web page. You can find it at the front page of GlennBeck.com. You click on any of the stories about the swine flu. You'll see the breakout map, you'll see where it is, you'll see the news stories, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen ‑‑ there's like twenty of them, and you can look at all of the different stories there. I'm also doing a full hour tonight on the swine flu. It's swine flu 101, and it's don't panic, just know all of the things that are happening right now and know the history of pandemics. Could this be it? Yes. Could t his be over by Friday? Yep. Until we know what it is, I just have enough stress in my life. I got enough. I've got enough stuff that's real. Is this real? We don't know. So what do we do? Well, I could get on the air and do what everybody always complains, "Oh, you're taking out too ‑‑ you're blowing it out..." or I could get on the air and give you all of the facts and, you know, if this thing gets serious, this will be the last time we're laughing about it. Might as well laugh while we can, gang. If this ain't it, great. If it is, sucks to be us. So thanks for your phone call.

OK. The best reason that there is no conspiracy on this one is that this flu has no vaccine.

By the time it has a vaccine it's going to have mutated anyway.

The planet has a potential 7+billion virus incubators in human form so we can count on diseases being created naturally. The virus began in Mexico City. That is a very densely populated city. It had a lot of hosts to work with.

It's sort of like the Infinite Monkey Theorem only nasty.
