Looks like Chrysler may avoid bankruptcy for a while:
UAW reportedly reaches deals with Fiat, Chrysler

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- The United Auto Workers union said late Sunday it has reached tentative deals with Chrysler LLC and its potential partner Fiat Group SpA, giving up key concessions that will allow Chrysler to avoid bankruptcy, reports said.
The UAW says its deal "meets the requirements of U.S. Treasury Department loans to the company" and includes changes to its health-care trust for Chrysler workers, according to a statement cited by the Associated Press.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the agreement is believed to include about a 50% reduction in the amount of cash Chrysler owes a $10 billion health-care fund that was set up in 2007. The auto maker is also expected to have won at least hundred of dollars in per-car labor savings from the UAW, it said.

That's just one part of it though. Fiat still has to want to close the deal, and Chrysler has to eventually make more good cars that people want to own.

National Health Care With 51 Votes

Late last week President Barack Obama and Democratic congressional leaders agreed to use "budget reconciliation" if necessary to jam a massive health-care bill through Congress.

Most Americans probably greeted this news with the glazed eyes and yawns that should rightfully accompany any discussion of "the federal budget process" longer than 30 seconds. But this decision is a deeply troublesome attempt to circumvent the normal and customary workings of American democracy.

It's a radical departure from congressional precedent, in which budget rules have been designed and used to reduce deficits, not expand the size of government. And it promises bitter divisiveness under an administration that has made repeated promises to reach across the partisan divide.

Reconciliation was established in 1974 as a procedure to make modest adjustments to mandatory spending such as farm programs, student loans and Medicare that were already well established in law. Over the past 35 years, it has been used only 22 times -- and three of those bills were vetoed. There are good reasons it has been used so rarely.

Ramming speed! You're going to eat the Bonkey dream version of socialized medicine, with zero Republican input.

/and because of the outcome of the last two elections, there's not a damn thing you can do to stop it

The dollar is the leper with the most fingers nowadays.

Dollar Wins Heads-or-Tails Toss on Growth or Weakening Economy

April 27 (Bloomberg) -- Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said five years ago that predicting currencies is no better than tossing a coin. A growing number of traders are betting that heads or tails, the dollar wins.

Investors bullish on the U.S. economy say the dollar will strengthen as America recovers first from the global economic recession. Those who expect the longest contraction since the early 1980s to continue say the currency should appreciate as the haven from turmoil in world markets. Foreign investors bought a net $22 billion of U.S. financial assets in February, the Treasury Department said April 15.

The dollar is “the best-looking horse in the glue factory” among major currencies, said Robert Blake, head of strategy for North America in Boston at State Street Global Markets LLC, which has $11.3 trillion in assets under custody.

But give Obama enough time and he will destroy the dollar too.

To give Bernanke his due, it looks like his monetary policy is having a positive impact on the banking situation.

Bernanke Warming Prompts Record Company Debt as Libor-OIS Falls

April 27 (Bloomberg) -- Wherever you look, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke’s efforts to repair global credit markets are showing signs of working.

The Libor-OIS premium that indicates banks’ reluctance to lend to each other fell to 0.87 percentage point on April 24, the lowest level since before Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. collapsed in September, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Companies have raised a record $468 billion in U.S. bond sales this year. Prices of the most senior portions of mortgage bonds backed by prime U.S. jumbo loans have climbed 24 percent in the past five weeks, according to London-based Barclays Capital.

Investor confidence in financial markets is returning after the U.S. government and the Fed agreed to spend, lend or commit $12.8 trillion to end the longest recession since the Great Depression. Finance chiefs from the Group of Seven predicted in Washington on April 24 that the world economy will start to rebound later this year.

Whenever the rebound happens, watch out for hyper inflation to start. The Fed would have to create a second recession to stop the inflation, and I doubt they have the intent to do so right now.

Could it be that the US officials know what they are dealing with – a biologically engineered virus that went missing and has now infected people and animals alike in Mexico and Florida. As they know what they are dealing with they know what the antidote is. They cannot offer Mexico the anti-virus because then the World would know that the US is responsible for this outbreak. The World would want to know if this was a mistake or did the US actually intentionally release a lethal virus [...]

in just a few demented steps.

The salto mortale of logic!

Australia has made great steps forward in the last decade or so. Now that Obama is in the White house, believe it or not China in some respects is more pro-capitalist than the US is.

But where the US has the rest of the world beat in the technical matter of economics is the Federal Reserve Bank system provides some capabilities most other countries do not have with which to manage the monetary situation.

The exercise aims to boost friendship, cooperation and confidence between the two land forces, and to increase the capability of them to train. This is the first time the two land forces will stage such an exercise.

* * * *
You're right.
WSJ reported China is providing Jamaica with loans, because the US can't.

Jamaica says China understands less developed countries better. Yeah.

(Where did China get all that cash, if not from US buyers of China's slave wage products?)

A couple of hints to the hatchlings: 1) Get to know Sharmuta, she'll steer you down the right path. 2) When the man talks, it pays to listen.

I think you figured out the magic button to hit to conjure up your buddy.

Sort of like the old day's with Gordon. All you had to do to get Gordon to show up was say something nice about Charles. Gordon would bite every time like a bluegill hitting surface popper.

You don't think there's something odd? This "flu" is a trifecta of precisely stitched avian, swine and human DNA. Indications an original infection was in Dong-hii-kong province where the PLA bio weapons facility is located. My sources inform me that the people's liberation army's code for this genetic catastrophe is Manbirdpig.

Welcome teh n00bz.

There was 3 black vans riding around our neighborhood this evening. They had red crosses painted on their side, but no lettering that would indicate who or what they were.

Some one told me old Mrs. Murkletrud was taken away in one of the vans, but I can't confirm that yet.

Thanks. The funds would be coming from our discretionary (non-allocated) money, so there are no time constraints. There is a meeting this coming Thursday that I plan on attending. Just not really familiar/comfortable with this type of savings plan and I have a lot of questions that I need answered.
