Pro Koln: The Wrap-Up

World • Views: 2,460

Gegenkritik has a post on the confrontation over Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller’s now-canceled participation in the “pro-Köln” meeting in Germany, with important context on the political background that makes this issue so complex: German conditions.

Recently, there has been a major confrontation in the American blogosphere with Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs on the one and Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch as well as Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs on the other side, regarding the repetition of the “Anti-Islamization-congress”, hosted by the small far right group pro-Köln, which announced Spencer and Geller as speakers at their meeting.

Without any doubt, it was due to Johnson’s accurate and highly appreciated research and coverage about pro-Köln (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), that Spencer and Geller finally retracted their written agreements to attend the conference - it is ridiculous that both are still defending pro-Köln, when it would be the perfect moment to apologize to Johnson and cut off all ties to right-wing extremist, fascistic or racist groups.

Well, I’m not holding my breath for that, but don’t forget to read the whole thing…

UPDATE at 4/27/09 11:55:25 am:

Here’s another post on the matter at a German-American blog: Dialog International: Battle of the (right-wing) blogs.

OT, but this display of bike-riding talent is nothing short of amazing:

Inspired Bicycles - Danny MacAskill April 2009

Filmed over the period of a few months in and around Edinburgh by Dave Sowerby, this video of Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill (more info at [Link: www.dannymacaskill.com)...] features probably the best collection of street/street trials riding ever seen. There's some huge riding, but also some of the most technically difficult and imaginative lines you will ever see. Without a doubt, this video pushes the envelope of what is perceived as possible on a trials bike.

I wish I could go to Koln. I have not been there since my "Let's Go to Europe" backpacking days in the 80's. I loved that area though. From there down the Rhine it's all nice. I hit most every Youth Hostel from there (the train from Amsterdam took us to Cologne) down to Basil, Switzerland. Memories of that trip are still fuzzy. The ones I do remember are all good. The ones are don't remember, my backpacking buddies assure me I was thoroughly enjoying myself at all times.

I am stuck inside of Phoenix with the Memphis blues again here....no Deutschland plans in the future.

I wonder if any of the anti-Israel vitriol in (formerly) West Germany is due to the influx of mainly-Islamic Turks after WW2?

Certainly a big upsurge in anti-Israel vitriol is due to the Turkish immigration. Bigger influence on that topic yet are the Arab immigrants from the Levant who are solidaritizing with the palestinians.
The biggest contributors of anti-Israel vitriol in (formerly) West Germany are by far the ideological leftards who've been the lap-dogs of the (formerly) East German communist party line.

I have been largely just lurking through these threads over the past few days, but I want to go ahead and get something off my chest.

It's very sad that so many people seem to lack the ability to admit fault, admit they didn't do the research, or just admit they made a bad call, and apologize to those who they attacked for merely doing the research. It's not a problem that end with Spencer and Geller, though they clearly suffer from it. It afflicts our entire political system as well. It has become "political suicide" it seems to ever take responsibility for any action, and our congressmen/women have become masters of dodge, misdirect, and redirect, and so also it seems have these two bloggers.

Perhaps one day our politicians and the likes of Spencer and Geller will learn that admitting you were wrong doesn't have to be the death of your career, it can just be a stepping stone along the way to furthering your career.

The anti-Semitism in some parts of the islamic community is different from that of non-muslim Germans. While the latter have huge sympathies for Palestinans, they try to combine this with their "official story" of the good Germans who learned from their past and are now good friends who just critizise Israel, while, especially during the Gaza-war, some Muslims had no hesitations to openly declare they want to murder Jews.

Hate is an ever-tightening circle, eventually comprised of people who are somewhat dubious of even those within the circle itself. It's eventually self-defeating, but as the process plays out, great swaths of humanity pay the price. this is the way it always has been and this is the way it ever will be.

Hi gegenkritik. In this passage:

As a conclusion: there are simply no political parties in Germany, which one should consider to support, especially not rightwing-extremists like pro-Köln. But it is also absolutely false to rely on those, who purport to be pro-Köln’s opponents, while only reproducing German continuousness.

Sounds like a reputable source for news and commentary. (I was kidding by the way. I know who Pamela Geller is.)

I think Pamela's in it for the exposure (yes, it was meant to be a double entondre). She strikes me as a mess, memorializing the Holocaust, condemning Pat Buchanan, and then applauding the Vlaams Belang, Pro-Koln, BNP, and other such groups. I seriously have to wonder if the woman does not need psychiatric help.

Good Afternoon Lizards!

I have a question. How does a fascist organization classify as 'right-wing'? It would seem to me that truly 'right-wing' people would be anti-fascist.

It's the European right wing. European politics have been different than American politics for quite some time, and Americans often misunderstand them. For the Euros, totalitarianisms exist at both ends of the spectrum, the tribal end and the class end (fascists and communists). It's a bit foreign to Americans who are used to a different terminology for right and left wing.

(semi OT) There is a BabelFish add-on for FireFox which can provide translation from/to several languages. There are configuration options for how the translation is to be triggered and presented. Usage can be as simple as highlighting the text of interest, and having the translation appear automatically in a popup "balloon". The default configuration requires a hotkey for triggering the popup.

BabelFish Instant Translation 1.84
[Link: addons.mozilla.org...]

Notes:
In quoted instances of this link, https may revert to http --and fail; I had to uppercase the S to keep it from being stripped off.

Altho I've checked the option for Show translation tooltip on: [x] Highlighting text, I suspect this may be sub-optimal in terms of cyber privacy, as anything highlighted can trigger the popup, and presumably that text gets dispatched for an attempt at translation, even if already English. So I may revert to the default (that option unchecked).

"This disease is spreading as we speak, but right now, a Bush-appointed accountant is running the department," the union says on its website.

Hi wrenchwench,
I think that even the conservative German parties, the ones you actually can vote for, have no recipe for integrating the muslim immigrants and addressing the issue of islamo-fascism in a meaningful manner, without going full tilt fascist (neo-nazi) themselves.
Also the CDU/CSU (conservative parties) are very incomparable to American politics, as they are way more social-democrat as the Republicans in the US. Much rather they compare to the social-republicans or the dems.

why thank you!

i didn't realize Robinson was that un-ding-worthy, but then again, i'm so woefully behind on my required reading that i may have to surrender my SF-fan membership card...

No, no!

I'm just not his biggest fan. I used to love him. I still like his essays, but I don't really care for his stories any more.

I don't know if it's because he actually became repetitive, or if I just have read so much that I felt like I knew exactly what was going to happen next. I think - as usual - that the fault's in me.

Don't want to sit through an Islamic prayer? CAIR wants you fired.....

CAIR: Fla. GOP Leader Leaves House Floor Before Muslim Prayer

A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy group today said that Rep. Adam Hasner, the head of Florida's House Republicans, left the floor of the legislature just prior to an Islamic prayer opening the session and returned to his seat just after the prayer ended.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) cited the apparent walkout as an additional reason for Hasner to step down from his leadership post.

Yesterday, CAIR called on Republican Party leaders to remove Hasner from his post because he co-hosted a recent event at which the speaker said Islam should not be recognized as a legitimate faith and Muslims should not have religious freedom.

I can understand criticizing the Geert speech but the guy shouldn't have to sit through a prayer if he doesn't want to.

OT - Ot - Dustyvet Update.

I'm doing better then I was last night, the family now has the results from Kathy's autopsy. I don't know if you where informed what happened yesterday afternoon. Kathy and her husband had just come home from afternoon church services. Kathy told told Fred, that she just needed to sit down for a bit, and rest, and that she felt very tired. Fred went into the kitchen to start dinner, for Kathy and their foster kids. They have a Sunday night tradition of making cold sandwiches , chips, dip and fruit. They then set up TV trays and watch TV and have dinner.

When Fred went back to the living room, Kathy was sitting in the recliner with her head down on her chest, and appeared to be sleeping. When he tried to wake her, she did not respond. The Paramedics where called, and attempted to revive her. kathy was taken to the hospital, but nothing could be done.

Kathy passed away from a massive heart attack while she slept. The tragic part is that, Kathy had just had her yearly medical exam about three weeks ago. Her GP Doctor had told her that she was in good health, and everything was OK.

The Funeral arrangements are pending. We are also working with the American Red Cross, to bring her son home from Germany on Emergency Leave.

The only other problem I'm having, is that being on a fixed income, I am unable to travel until the 1st when my VA check comes in. Please inform all the Lizards that The family and myself are doing fine, and we are hanging in there. Thanks to all the LGF folks who responded with their kind words.

Dustyvet

I don't know how to do this, so I'll just say it out loud, CAN ANYONE HELP DUSTYVET?

It's evident that even if he gets his check in time to make the funeral, he'll be spending money he doesn't have.

I will be glad to either pass along any info to Dustyvet OR give you his email.

The problem is that I doubt the administration is going to fund the basic science needed for the breakthroughs he wants, even if they are possible. He'll find companies taking money for development, based on how well they write proposals that match the administration image, and miss the science that will give more benefit.

Full-auto weapons have been highly restricted since the GCA of 1968. There have been additional (legal) supply problems created by later laws. At a minimum, you need a Federal Class III license and (in Texas, anyway), the PERMISSION of the local head LEO.

Yes I think it's a good move. Science R and D is very important and will help to create well paying jobs. It's also a good investment in our future. Although alternative energy breakthroughs are unlikely anytime soon we need to stop funding the oil ticks as soon as possible.

Just hire French nuclear power engineers to teach the USA how to produce 80% of our power as the groovy French already do, in nuclear power plants.

Why should we be second to France in power production?

Or won't liberals be happy until no one in America has electrical power to do anything productive, like cooking, cleaning, manufacturing, living, working, running medical equipment, surfing the web, making music, inventing, creating, learning?

And while we are at it, let's have them show us how to put trains on existing tracks that move at 160-80 miles per hour.

France did high-speed by using most of the existing infastructure. It works fine, I've ridden on them.

Ok, thanks for the emails I just got from some Lizards. I have emailed you back with Dustyvet's email address. That is my only means of contact, although I think he does have a phone and I included the state that he lives in so you may be able to look up his phone number, if it is listed.

See my

Let's see what happens. I got a number of emails from Lizards and sent on Dustyvet's email to them, the touchy part is if he sees them in time to answer them or correspond with the Lizards.

Let's hope.

Well, well, isn't this lovely:

Obama promises major investment in science

I am here today to set this goal: we will devote more than 3 percent of our gross domestic product to research and development," Obama said in a speech at the annual meeting of the National Academy of Sciences.

Wow, sounds great, right? I mean, what's another 3 percent of everything we produce - it's for a good cause.

Oops, wait:

he set forth a wish list including solar cells as cheap as paint; green buildings that produce all the energy they consume; learning software as effective as a personal tutor; prosthetics so advanced that you could play the piano again and "an expansion of the frontiers of human knowledge about ourselves and world the around us.'

This is like a child's Christmas list. How about setting aside childish things? If you want to invest in science, what about nuclear power?

He has already spent all of the GDP from last year, so he can wish all he wants.

re: #41 Kenneth

I'm just curious... precisely when did these European Neo-Nazis stop hating Jews and switched to hating Muslims instead?

Wrong question.

They never stopped hating Jews, just pretended to. It's a tactic.

And they've been hatin' on immigrants, especially Muslims, ever since the first Gastarbeiter ("guest worker") arrived at the invitation of the (West) German government in the 1950s to meet a critical labor shortage.

The first guest workers to be recruited in this period came from Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia, and to a lesser extent also from Greece (so-called recruitment countries). From 1960 guest workers also came from Turkey and Portugal. In 1964 the Federal Republic welcomed the one-millionth guest worker, a Portuguese man. He received a moped as a welcome gift. The recruitment countries were joined by Tunisia, Morocco and South Korea, while recruitment contracts for health care workers were made with the Philippines. Lastly there was a recruitment contract with England in 1971. In September 1971, as a result, more than ten percent of the people employed in the FRG were guest workers.

I was one of them.

The guest worker program was fraught with contradictions from the start. Maybe the German politicos were expecting a blond and blue-eyed baby boom that would eliminate the need for foreigners, maybe they thought the wall would come down in a few years and they'd be flooded with "real Germans" from the east. It never happened. Instead, "guests" became permanent residents, married, brought family from abroad, had children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all without ever receiving citizenship. In Germany you are not automatically a citizen just because you're born on German soil. Look up the difference between jus sanguinis and jus natalis. France and America have the latter, Germany the former.

So the fantasy was that you could bring people in, use their labor, and not owe them anything but a paycheck. That's not how life works.

The unregenerate Nazis and their successors used the presence of these Fremdarbeiter (their word for "guest worker" - fremd meaning foreign, but also literally strange) for their own purposes from the beginning. I lived in Germany for ten years and saw the results firsthand. At the time it was nothing to do with Islam, except as an added dose of "strangeness". It was pure xenophobia. In my town, a young man accused of shoplifting was strangled to death in broad daylight by a shop attendant. The DA declined to prosecute. At the demonstration I attended, an incensed German lady of the middlebrow sort yelled at me that the whole thing had been "just a mishap" (bloß a Malöhr).

Now that the problem has become militant Islam, the same old haters are using that to preach the same old genocidal Rassenhass (race hatred). Yes, it's racism, with a veneer of opposing jihad. There's no getting away from it.

This is the dilemma: How to fight militant jihadists without becoming their mirror image. Some people care about that. Others don't. For them, the end justifies all means, even if (especially when) they deny it. Just look at their associates (kedja.net) to see through the mask.

Nuke power plants are already "broken through". Even the FWENCH have them.

Yes, and there are designs for safe ones, but no company will invest in them without government support. There, the money is needed to stop stupid lawsuits, not for development. Companies will invest money in advanced nuclear plants if they think they can make money on them.

And the same goes for all the other technologies the 0 wants.
Solar cells? There are companies working on making them cheap. But make sure the envirowackos can't block solar farms. If it is possible to make cheap solar cells, they'll get made, and probably better and cheaper by companies competing than from a government directed project.

P.S. I nearly got myself killed one time at a village Kneipe (pub) when one of the local oafs made a joke about dead Jews. I wigged. Tore open my sleeve and said I knew people who had the tattoo right there, and would he like to take it outside. Big, meaty guy. He looked really surprised, like someone was going apeshit over a witticism he made every day.

The pub owner threw me out. My friends hustled me home. Just another day in the Dorf.

Another time I and a friend were encircled by neo-Nazis in a pub near Lübeck (Thomas Mann's home town). They thought he was gay and I was a Turk. They pinned us in by sitting at the ends of the booth we were in and got very aggressive. We talked our way out of the pub and then nearly got whacked when they followed us and harried us on mopeds. There was not a soul around. No one at the pub did a thing to help us. Just another day...

Germany has a huge problem.

re: #294 Cato the Elder

P.P.S. That particular friend lost a brother and an eye to a Palestinian bus-bomb attack in the eighties in Jerusalem. Then he nearly gets murdered by neo-Nazis in northern Germany.

These are the people that the anti-jihadists don't want to see too closely lest it take away from their numbers.

That's horrible. I know similar stories from friends.
Especially shortly after reunification, there was a huge breakout of violence against foreigners and generally persons who were considered to be undeutsch.
By now, the situation is different: while Nazis in former West Germany are not a real problem, Nazi-violence is virulent at villages and rural areas in former Eastern Germany. There are some areas where I would disadvise any person to go, who is an identifiable target for Nazis.

I've heard that. It's a sad development. So much for the official "anti-fascist" line of the SED.

But somehow I suspect those BRD guys in the Kneipen are still there, too. They weren't going around self-identifying as Nazis, they just took the opportunity when they saw it to express how they really felt. I imagine there's much more of that than the MSM lets on.

I met many people in my pub-crawling days who, after the fifth schnapps, or the first fifth, would start to let it all hang out. Nothing worse than a weepy, drunken Unbelehrbarer going all confessional on you when you're just trying to get a nice buzz on.

Yes, but: "reasonably good" and "good" are two very different things. A lot of really bad people slipped through the cracks, or were covered up for. One of the reasons the antifa gained so much ground is the amount of fa that was still coursing through the veins of the West.

It is a pity that the (position of the) biggest political blog in Germany could be hijacked by a bunch of Nazi enabling entrists using the threat of Islamic jihad as rhetorical box cutters. Just imagine how horrible the reprecussions of a real terror attack would have been with these people representing the inner core of political cohesion in that country. It´s so unbelievable one might think it´s Bush Derangement Syndrome played backwards.

The question remains whether a blog of that size ("PI" attracts 35.000 visitors a day in a language with 105.000.000 native speakers) can be successfully defended against entryism without the lizard system. Although the facade of PI reminds a bit of LGF behind the hood there is just a WordPress engine. Every comment (maybe except those of privileged regulars) has to be counterchecked before it is posted. Counterchecking will take different amounts of time for different comments, making it impossible to have a debate unfold in real time. When a comment is deleted, no traces do remain. All the counterchecking is an awful lot of work extremely attractive for entrists to apply for. Once your blog grows big enough it only can be run with the help of a "Council of Guardians." That´s the architecture of a Trojan Horse. In the attempt to imagine how successful LGF would have been with that technology, the deceased "Lizard Lounge" comes to mind.

On the other hand, entrists only enter what the believe they could successfully turn around. Will "Politically Incorrect" in the future be factually correct about who is a Nazi and who is an Anti-Nazi? That´s the benchmark.
