The Beam in Joshua Trevino’s Eye
In some more fallout from Dave Weigel’s article for the Washington Independent, Joshua Treviño posted a cheap shot at me a few days ago, in an article titled: A responsible anti-jihadism?
Charles Johnson’s disenchantment with a movement he did much to create is more likely a function of his contrary nature than his active conscience, but it would be ungracious to pry overmuch.
Apparently Treviño doesn’t think it’s “ungracious” to imply that I don’t have an “active conscience.”
But the rather amazing thing about Treviño’s lecture on “responsible anti-jihadism” is that this is a guy who is a contributor at Brussels Journal, whose last article was posted there earlier this month.
Brussels Journal, of course, is owned and operated by Paul Belien, whose wife, Dr. Alexandra Colen, is a member of the Belgian Federal Parliament, representing the neofascist party Vlaams Belang.
And the Brussels Journal website is a cesspool of bigotry, extremism, and hatred, featuring articles advocating tribal nationalism and white separatism, supporting French Holocaust denier Jean-Marie Le Pen, and promoting Jewish conspiracy theories from antisemitic websites.
The owner, Paul Belien, responded to criticism from LGF and author Bruce Bawer (who’s gay) by posting a hateful homophobic screed featuring a picture of bondage gear-wearing homosexual men kissing, titled “Is This What It Is All About?”
For a long time, they were running an advertisement from a BNP-linked British web forum, with racist posts so ugly they would curl your teeth.
Brussels Journal is still advertising that they’re a member of the OpinionJournal Federation, even though they’ve been removed from that web page.
So I have to ask: how active is your conscience, Josh?
