Associated Press Suddenly Remembers How to Fact-Check

Media • Views: 13,766

The honeymoon of Barack Obama and the Associated Press is definitely over: FACT CHECK: Obama disowns deficit he helped shape.

WASHINGTON – “That wasn’t me,” President Barack Obama said on his 100th day in office, disclaiming responsibility for the huge budget deficit waiting for him on Day One.

It actually was partly him — and the other Democrats controlling Congress the previous two years — who shaped the latest in a string of precipitously out-of-balance budgets.

And as a presidential candidate and president-elect, he backed the twilight Bush-era stimulus plan that made the deficit deeper, all before he took over and promoted spending plans that have made it much deeper still.

Obama met citizens at an Arnold, Mo., high school Wednesday in advance of his prime-time news conference. Both forums were a platform to review his progress at the 100-day mark and look ahead.

At various times, he brought an air of certainty to ambitions that are far from cast in stone.

His assertion that his proposed budget “will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term” is an eyeball-roller among many economists, given the uncharted terrain of trillion-dollar deficits and economic calamity that the government is negotiating.

I wouldn't say definitely over, since they'll be right back in the amnesia-induced haze of 100 days of brilliance within short order. It's true that there are a few fact-checkers still around at the AP, but they're few and far between.

No such reports from Austin. I suspect the caller might have been less than 100% correct in his report.

This is a cause for concern, though; folks in the border regions coming north for treatment. Still, it's already a fact of life for quite some time now already, so maybe just a blip.

Let's see how long this lasts, if they continue. Now they can point to that story and say, "see? we were critical of our most glorious and powerful magnificence, that tower of power, too sweet to be sour, the man, the myth the legend, our savior, barack hussein obama!"

They'll do this once every six months or so, as a fig leaf.

Flying pigs, you can stand down.

You've figured out EXACTLY how modern journalism works. (or doesn't work)

Now, back to our regularly schedule programming, featuring the AP's Liz Sidoti and her diamond-studded kneepads.

[Link: www.google.com...]

(Read it if you dare)

Here's an unpleasant taste for those unwilling to read through this act of journalistic fellation.

Obama quickly, confidently adapts to presidency
By LIZ SIDOTI –

As an audacious candidate, Obama meticulously built a powerhouse organization and fundraising juggernaut to engineer his victory. As a fledgling president, he similarly has mapped out a big-risk agenda that he's methodically begun to execute, keeping to the discipline that has been a hallmark of his life.

Rookie jitters? Far from it.

Confident almost to a fault, he could seem aloof, even arrogant at times in the campaign. He's kept that focused attitude in the White House, while exhibiting few flashes of any off-putting, self-important tone.

I know. Obama talks like it is a done deal, but if this is going to Bankruptcy Court, then that ain't the case? It isn't easy getting a straight answer out of Washington, and Obama may not know what he is talking about? But I am confused.

This is the perfect and most effective line of attack. We can mea culpa however we want over the Republicans who ushered this in, but we must make it apparent to the public that the Democrats in Congress and Obama own the shape we are in right now. Just Obama doesn't tell the tale and allows easy deflection.

150 CEQAttorney  Thu, Apr 30, 2009 11:40:15am

OT, but about Barry's plans:

I am really irritated whenever someone says they don't like to pay higher taxes, liberals respond with the assertion that those people are "greedy" or "selfish."

Here is an example of my "selfishness." My business (I'm a real estate attorney) is barely holding on. Essentially, I'm making less than 50% of what I was making two years ago. This is mostly because no one is buying property and no one is building. Many of my fellow Rotarians are in a similar situation. In fact, one of my fellow Rotarians made no money last year because his investors for his film studio (Noble House Entertainment) dropped out.

Yet, last weekend, we raised $10,000 for our club in a single night through donations from our members. This is on top of our regular donations we give during the year.

Yet, if you ask most of our members, they resent paying higher and higher taxes. They are independent businessmen who can't continuously afford the largess of the state.

In my opinion, people who want to raise taxes are greedy because they aren't willing to put their own money on the line but want to forcibly take other people's money for their own pet causes.

Time online is still has shivers running up its leg. I came across this tidbit while reading a story about Air Force One flyover of New York [Link: www.time.com...]

It appears to be taking official Washington some time to grasp that Obama isn't interested in the aura of power supposedly conferred by new presidential helicopters (he's killed a proposed $13 billion upgrade of the fleet of 28 Marine Ones) or glossy souvenir photos of Air Force One flying over New York City. Trimming the trappings of power gives his Administration the credibility to seek sacrifices from other parts of the government, and from taxpayers too. But it appears that some folks — like Caldera, who as of this moment still heads the White House Military Office — still haven't gotten the message.

That's some real objective reporting. /s

I still can't believe how this guy terrorizes the country into gratuitously spending Trillions, and then has the balls to turn around and claim "fiscal responsibility" because his team is working very hard to save $0.0001T (and over a period of years, at that!). The malignant narcissim of it all is just scary.

And I can't believe how anybody can just sit there and listen to stuff that's that incredibly outrageous. How many times do you have to get slapped in the face by the First "member" swinging about, before you conclude "the Emperor [ie, President] is naked!"
