Obama Outsources His Presidency
While officials in the Obama White House dismissed yesterday's "100 Days" anniversary as a "Hallmark Holiday," they understood it was what sociologist Daniel J. Boorstin called a "pseudo-event." By that, Boorstin meant an occasion that is not spontaneous but planned for the purpose of being reported -- an event that is important because someone says so, not because it is.

My insurance tried to weasle on an ER visit last year (car wreck). They were trying to stick me for almost seventeen grand. When all was said and done, it cost them $750. There is something fundementally wrong in a system that will do that. If I hadn't had insurance I'd have been bankrupt. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, but if it'd just been the $750, I'd have paid it just to avoid the hassel.
Something's broke, that is for sure. But I don't see Obama and the Democrats making it any better.
Same crap happened to me when my husband got burned by hot cooking oil at a Nascar race and they airlifted him to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. They weren't going to cover it because I didn't call them within the 24 hour window to pre-certify it. They eventually did, but I had to raise some hell.

Right wing extremist update: Swastika priest
A priest has shocked parishioners by welcoming them to church wearing a swastika armband.
Fascist Father Angelo Idi, 51 - who once saw off a charity box thief with a truncheon at his church in Vigevano, Italy - confessed: "I am proud of my right wing beliefs. But people shouldn't care about my politics, they should care about how good a priest I am."
...........
Last month a right wing Italian priest who is a member of Richard Williamson's Pius fraternity was caught giving the Hitler salute at a neo-fascist rally - but claimed he was just trying to bless his flock.Catholic priest Giulio Tam, well known for his extremist right views, raised his right arm when speaking at a rally of the neo-fascist Forza Nuova party in Bergamo, northern Italy. (pictured here - ed)
The ultra-conservative Pius fraternity hit the headlines recently as British Catholic bishop and Holocaust denier Richard Williamson is a member.
After a picture revealed Tam raising his right hand, he argued: "The young people of the Forza Nuova wanted me to bless them. I'll always be on their side."

I have so many different types of music on my iPod that I could probably find something objectionable to anyone.
About the only type of music I don't have is [c]rap.
I do have some crap, though; I'll admit it. (Why did I download Terry Jacks singing "Seasons in the Sun", unless I wanted to torture myself with it?)
I have country (Johnny Cash), some classical, a lot of jazz (from old big bands to Miles Davis), rock, folk, and the uncategorizable Frank Zappa.
If I wanted to get someone to leave my vicinity by playing music, and I didn't want to experiment, I could go right for the Captain Beefheart. There is a piece by him and Frank Zappa called "Tiger Roach", from a collection of Zappa odds (!) and ends called "The Lost Episodes" that should do it. Actually, he wasn't Capt Beefheart then; just Don van Vliet.

You should definately know what your kid is listening to. Back during the PMRC bullshit, I think a lot of the rockers should have been pushing that it is your business as a parent to know what your kid is listening to. The same goes for movies. It isn't that movies are inherently evil, but that parent's need to draw reasonable boundries. I'll never forget that my parents bought my kid sister (who is 14 years younger than me, and had a very troubled teenage years) a copy of Pulp Fiction.
When she was 11. Then they wondered why she got into drugs.
I knew what she was listening to when she was 11. Now she's 27 and living with her fiance in Maryland. (He just graduated from the Maryland State Police Academy, and she's a case manager for a drug court)

Uh, no, it isn't. Bela Fleck plays an excerpt from the Rodrigo piece at the beginning of "Spain."

Another great tune, Charles. Bela Fleck also performed Spain on one of his pre-Flecktones acoustic / bluegrass albums on the Rounder label. I'm not sure which one, though. I'll look it up when I'm home this evening.
I recently got the CD of his new album with African musicians "Throw Down Your Heart" but I haven't had a chance to sit down and listen to it. I'm hoping to be able to listen to it this weekend. New Fleck music in da house!

re: #63 Honorary Yooper
True, taste in music can't be wrong as it is very subjective. Not everyone likes what I like, and I don't like what some other folks like.
I couldn't agree more. While I'm primarily a rock n' roll guy, I've grown to appreciate a lot of other music besides rock. Jazz, country, bluegrass, R & B, classical, etc. Heck, one of my favorite CDs is one I picked up in Argentina of a chamber music quartet playing tango classics in a classical style. Really cool music.
And that's why I have such a huge collection of LPs, CDs and cassettes. Then we have my wife's considerable collection of CDs, cassettes and 45 rpm singles. We've got vinyl, cassettes and CDs all over our townhouse. Music all over the place, I love it!
There's two kinds of music in the world, the cool stuff I like and the dreck every one else listens too. Of course, I'm kidding.
