Fox News Pimping Judge Andrew Napolitano, Ron Paul, Lew Rockwell, Alex Jones

Media • Views: 3,661

Judge Andrew Napolitano, who uses his Fox News online show “Freedom Watch” to promote racists and nutjobs like Lew Rockwell, Ron Paul, and Alex Jones, is now being pimped on the official Fox News video page.

The mainstreaming of the extreme right wing and the conspiracy kooks continues apace.

Its all about ratings.

2 Kragar  Fri, May 1, 2009 11:36:23am

I'd say I'd stop watching, but I don't watch them anyways. I've got no time for blithering airheads of any stripe

FNC is becoming as much a part of the FMSM even as they pimp the Right/Fascist fringe.

“Freedom Watch”

A rather Orwellian name for the show given the people it is promoting.

5 Russkilitlover  Fri, May 1, 2009 11:39:18am

Speaking of ratings, I wonder what FOX's are? Are they going up with their inclusion of nutters? Or are they struggling and thus going for the outrageous?

6 tfc3rid  Fri, May 1, 2009 11:40:20am

Charles...

Come on... The video shows up on the 'Web Originals' page...because Napolitano's show is a Web Show...

If you go to the main FNC site and click on videos, Napolitanos show does not show up on the front page...

It's really a shame. Fox had some great programming in the past. Now it looks like they've gone completely around the bend.

Playing to the crowd. It's what their focus groups are telling them they want to see. It's not news--it's pandering. They sense the fears of the viewers and feed them what they want to hear--validating that fear. They are clueless (at best) as to the harm they are doing.

I wonder how much of their programing decisions are made in regards to the nutters is due to some real market research that suggest that there is some money in putting the kooks on the stage?

They do not make these kinds of decisions lightly.

Here's some info from (get ready for it) Huffpo! (It's for March 09):

Fox News averaged 2.15 million viewers in primetime for the week ending March 22, 2009. Only USA (3.16 million) averaged more. CNN came in 21st with an average 914,000 total viewers, and MSNBC placed 23rd with an average of 886,000 total viewers. All figures are according to Nielsen Media Research.

And here's the first sentence of the first comment:

FOX is racist. All republicans and conservatives are racist and have no education. I've never met a repulican who even had a GED.

Heh, heh. And that's why I don't linkee to Huffpo.

FoxNews is in the sewer. I never watch that. I also never watch CNN, MSNBC or the Networks news either. Not as many right wing crackpots hanging out there, but they are heavily laden with leftwing freakazoids. Let's face it, most of the TV MSM is way too far to the left....Fox is now leaning way to far to the right. It is getting harder and harder to decipher the actual news from the propaganda spewing out of all of the media these days.

Andy McCarthy Said "No" to the Justice Department Today

Andrew C. McCarthy

May 1, 2009

By email (to the Counterterrorism Division) and by regular mail:

The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr.
Attorney General of the United States
United States Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20530-0001

Dear Attorney General Holder:

This letter is respectfully submitted to inform you that I must decline the invitation to participate in the May 4 roundtable meeting the President’s Task Force on Detention Policy is convening with current and former prosecutors involved in international terrorism cases. An invitation was extended to me by trial lawyers from the Counterterrorism Section, who are members of the Task Force, which you are leading.

The invitation email (of April 14) indicates that the meeting is part of an ongoing effort to identify lawful policies on the detention and disposition of alien enemy combatants—or what the Department now calls “individuals captured or apprehended in connection with armed conflicts and counterterrorism operations.” I admire the lawyers of the Counterterrorism Division, and I do not question their good faith. Nevertheless, it is quite clear—most recently, from your provocative remarks on Wednesday in Germany—that the Obama administration has already settled on a policy of releasing trained jihadists (including releasing some of them into the United States). Whatever the good intentions of the organizers, the meeting will obviously be used by the administration to claim that its policy was arrived at in consultation with current and former government officials experienced in terrorism cases and national security issues. I deeply disagree with this policy, which I believe is a violation of federal law and a betrayal of the president’s first obligation to protect the American people. Under the circumstances, I think the better course is to register my dissent, rather than be used as a prop.

Moreover, in light of public statements by both you and the President, it is dismayingly clear that, under your leadership, the Justice Department takes the position that a lawyer who in good faith offers legal advice to government policy makers—like the government lawyers who offered good faith advice on interrogation policy—may be subject to investigation and prosecution for the content of that advice, in addition to empty but professionally damaging accusations of ethical misconduct. Given that stance, any prudent lawyer would have to hesitate before offering advice to the government. ...

Read the whole thing.

Here's a rather good editorial, in today's TIMES/London, which addresses the implied theme of this thread:

The incredible shrinking elephant.
Why moderate US Republicans must stand up for themselves

Concluding paragraph:
'America needs the Republicans, yet they are flirting with irrelevance. To return to relevance the party must be rebuilt as a coalition, not a clique. Its leaders must embrace its moderates, and its moderates - on everything from taxes to abortion - must stand up for themselves.'

The mainstreaming of the far right fringe is very disappointing and plays right into the hands of people who would paint every fiscal conservative who attends church and espouses traditional patriotism as a whack job conspiracy theorist.

I know that FOX is motivated by ratings and money. This much is not a mystery. But I'm perplexed as to why the conservative pundits and political organizations are allowing themselves to be radicalized by the most extreme examples of the right of center crowd.

Do they somehow believe that if courting radicals and malcontents on the left won political power for the Dems that the same type of massing of the radical right will bring back power to the conservatives? There are too many flaws with that plan to list.

I see there's another DHS memo making the rounds hurting the feelings of conservatives again.

DHS memo's don't mean much to me. The one the hubbub was about was a hard read from being poorly written. And in hindsight it had no significant effect on anything anywhere except as a news item. And it exposed a lack of trust in a DHS run by the Obama Adminstration by a set of the population. Most law enforcement leaders are pragmatic folks who know crap when they see it. A few like to nifong people for personal reasons but they are exceptions to the population I would hope.

I don't think it harms us as a people to ask them not to fall for crap. Make an effort to be informed.

I am a fan of big government when it comes to national defense and setting the proper rules for free markets being good for the little guy. I'm no fan of big government when they overtax me, try to manipulate me through social policy, or track my activities.

That's when the conservatives are in control. I'm even a lessor fan of this when liberals are in control. I think they have greater eroding effects on freedoms than conservatives do.

I am always slow on the draw judging people to be bad unless they are totally obvious.

RTWT!

The only good news for the GOP is that the voters they are loosing are becoming Independents, not Democrats. The GOP s at 20% of registered voters, the Dems about 34%, the rest are Independents. (The fastest growing group)

True. In fact it seemed as though during the election the dominant theme for Fox News was to get Obama on Fox and interviewed by Bill O'Reilly. This eventually took place and a lot of pandering took place on the part of O'Reilly.

In the end the Obama victory has become a boon for FNC. Their profits and viewers have increased with his presidency since they have essential been handed the conspiracies and news fodder for what they do best. A McCain win would have been less profitable for FNC.

I usually find them as insufferable as the Daily Kos and DU crowd. Full of the same sorts of hates as well, just at differing ends of the spectrum.

When it comes to the level of hatred the fringe elements of the political spectrum express there is is no difference. It is all just "hate what is not me".

Of course TV and the media in general attracts loonies.

The truth is usually pretty simple, and there is not much really new to say. It is "boring" in other words.

So if you want new things all the time, and exciting things, most of them will be wrong. (Exciting news!) &ct.

And "nuts" and "mistake" or "error" just go so well together.

Might I be impertinent and and inquire as to what the real troof is, as expressed by this nutter?

Or will it be something I end of regretting asking for?

I get it -- you deny there's any significance to Fox News' increasing promotion of the extreme nuts like Ron Paul, then you praise Neil Cavuto. I point out that Cavuto has Ron Paul on his show frequently, and your answer is "so what?"

Denial. It's not just for lefties any more.

I don't deny the significance I just don't see it as being something that is leading a widespread takeover of the GOP... These clowns are just not that powerful.

My answer wasn't 'So What?', I pointed out that Cavuto also has on the likes of commies like Bernie Sanders... He has on John McCain often.

I personally have no issues with FNC... Do they sensationalize, of course. Everyone does. Again, my opinion. My thoughts.

Hell, it even has this:

(

U) Mexican
separatism
(U//FOUO) A movement of groups or individuals of
Mexican descent who advocate the secession of southwestern
U.S. states (all or part of Arizona, California, New Mexico,
and Texas) to join with Mexico through armed struggle.
Members do not recognize the legitimacy of these U.S. states,
including the U.S. Government’s original acquisition of these
territories.

It's not the political thought that the DHS is monitoring. Every one of the groups on the list engages in criminal activity including violence.

Here's a lefty one for the record:

agrarian society, often

I know that FOX is motivated by ratings and money. This much is not a mystery. But I'm perplexed as to why the conservative pundits and political organizations are allowing themselves to be radicalized by the most extreme examples of the right of center crowd.

The media has its own agenda whether it's making money or promoting a specific ideology. Unfortunately, the rest of the media is so rabid about promoting the current administration and demonizing anyone on the right, people are going to turn to places like Fox to get an opposing opinion and they will take the good with the bad. Fox is under no obligation to be a mouthpiece for any ideology and we're not being realistic if we suggest they need to take a purist line.

Christian Identity (U//FOUO) A racist religious philosophy that maintains non-Jewish whites are “God’s Chosen People” and the true descendants of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Groups or individuals can be followers of either the Covenant or Dual Seedline doctrine; all believe that Jews are conspiring with Satan to control world affairs and that the world is on the verge of the Biblical apocalypse. Dual Seedline adherents believe Jews are the literal offspring of Satan and that nonwhites, who are often referred to as “mud people,” are not human beings.

After 9-11 people rightly complained the various security agencies didn't do their jobs properly. The faults identified were lack of training, poor communication, & agency firewalls. These DHS initiatives are aimed at overcome all three of those problems.

(U) black bloc (U//FOUO)

An organized collection of violent anarchists and anarchist affinity groups that band together for illegal acts of
civil disturbance and use tactics that destroy property or strain
law enforcement resources. Black blocs operate in
autonomous cells that infiltrate nonviolent protests, often
without the knowledge of the organizers of the event
.

The FBI & etc do need to be aware. And quite frankly, so do concerned citizens who organize peaceful protest. Violent thugs are infiltrating them. I saw it in 2001 and 2002 when International Answer infiltrated the "peace movement" protests.

Almost. Same talking points from Spencer. I find it odd that they seem to be having a one way conversation. What I mean is that they only succeed in speaking to their own audience but rarely do you see them speaking to the Imams for example. That would be the only route that can create effective change. In addition, their embracing of Geert Wilders who calls Islam a "retarded religion" doesn't help matters much.

Seeing the books lined up it reminded me of a trade show. I guess one can call this the Anti-Jihad Industry which I imagine can be rather lucrative: books, speaking engagements, seminars, DVDs, etc. Would a solution to jihad be in their financial interest?

I always like the part in movies taking place many hundreds of years ago, when they have a closeup of someone shouting, and you can see their fillings.

re: #54 Charles

I'm on record with my contempt for the Judge and FNC permitting the Judge via 'Freedom Watch' to promote Paul, Jones, Rockwell, and their ilk.

Doing a quick search, I've found that Cavuto had Paul on his show 3 times in '09 (1/8, 1/17, and 3/10) and in those, pretty much bashed Paul for his economic ideas and hypocrisy on earmarks. While the Judge is clearly a Paul supporter / friend, I do not see the same level of evidence that puts Cavuto at the same level.

Ultimately, though, the key point is that FNC, in particular with the Judge, is pandering for ratings by highlighting some very fringe people who should not get the stage they are getting at FNC.

It's bad enough that the other news outlets embrace and promote the fringe on the left. There is equally no reason why the fringe on the right has to get 'equal time'. If Olberidiot or Matthews are taken to task for going in the tank for Obama, then the Judge also has to be taken to task for doing the same for Luap Nor.

I don't believe (okay I'm hoping here) that Fox News knows what kind of crazyness "Judge" N. is bringing to their web. Ron Paul's appearances I can understand - congresscritter and prez candidate - but the rest is just goofier than a shithouse rat. I've always had trouble "pinning down" Napolitano, other than his being an asshole. If they let this go on much longer, they'll lose all credibility. And that's all they've got, compared to the rest of the TV media. Now they seem like some sort of short-wave UFO program.

Why all the huffin' and puffin'? We have a sitting President who has racist and extremist pals galore. That's not my opinion, either. It's a fact.

So, comparatively speaking, Fox New is hardly breaking new ground with it's promotions and associations, as odious as they are to some people.

Hey, the other side glorifies and apologizes for their lunatic fringe, so we should do it too!

re: #335 Lightspeed

I don't mind if they have these guys on FNC--as long as they properly identify them in caption. Let's see, "Alex Jones, 9/11 Truther and All-Around Conspiracy Nutcase," "Congressman Ron Paul - Pseudo Libertarian, Attention Whore, and anti-Semite," "Lew Rockwell - Ron Paul Toady, Race Warrior," "Pat Buchanan - White America Firster, Holocaust Skeptic, Hitler Apologist." I kinda doubt they would go on the shows, though.

that would be awesome, and I would actually watch that. as it is, I won't even turn on Fox News.

re: #214 capitalist piglet

I have three pair of Docs. I am screwed. (Though the leopard print ones look particularly menacing.)

If you really wanna give other skins the signal that you're a racist white supremacist, you lace your Doc Martens up with red laces instad of white ones.
